Robert Grant is laird and trying to figure out who is stealing his cattle. He's convinced it's the clan's rival, the Camerons. He is also attracted to Laird Cameron's daughter, Janet...which poses a problem when the hatred between these clans goes back a long way.

Janet's father had just remarried and the stepmother is anxious to have her married off. But no matter how many balls or events she attends, it is Laird Grant that she is drawn to. After a skirmish with the dragoons, Janet's brother is beaten and she is taken into custody. Robert Grant rescues her and the story of their growing love takes off from there.

He cares for her but knows her father would never approve. How can he marry the daughter to his sworn enemy? A great love story and I recommend it highly. I was given an ARC for an honest review.

This book is enjoyable if predicatable, which is not a bad thing. I read historical romance not for new, edge of my seat thriller but for comfort and gentle courting. This was enemies to lovers and that is my go-to romance trope. I enjoyed The Highland Renegade.

Laird Robert Grant is a Highland Clan Chief and his enemy are the the Camerons. Their families have been feuding for many generations. Robert has accused his rivals of stealing his cattle, no matter what they say. But he falls for the daughter, Janet. The Redcoats go after Janet because their leader is drunk and is not so nice to Janet so she slaps him. Robert rescues her only for her to become hurt and he takes her back to his home to keep her away from the Redcoats and to heal properly. He sends a letter to her dad, who shows up sometime later one and is taking her home. He does not believe that Robert would be nice to her or take care of her properly. But Grant and Janet fell in love and he wants to win her hand from her family. Things don't look so good for them.
I really enjoyed this book and seeing Robert and Janet fall for each other. Janet couldn't stand him for years and realized she was wrong about him all along.

Janet Cameron’s father has recently married. Her new step-mother would like nothing better than to get rid of Janet and marry her off to the first man who makes an offer.

So now Janet Cameron’s life might possibly be in danger.

Will star crossed lovers Robert and Janet ever be able to obtain a HEA? Perhaps their future will only be shed tears, broken dreams and shattered hearts. Forcing them to go their separate ways.

Another Amy Jarecki novel that I absolutely loved. It had my favorite novel ingredients which is true factual history during the Jacobite rising, with a fictional romance, based on true characters of the past. Plus it also had some true royal Scottish historical subjects of the past making appearances in this story. A book I definitely couldn’t book down.

It is a riveting, quick paced, page turner that had me glued to my seat. It was filled with adventure, clan wars, intrigue, theft, treachery, Jacobite rising, betrayal, prejudice, hatred, passion and love. This book can be read as a stand alone book or series order.

In addition it had captivating settings, magnificent dialogue, awe-inspiring main and secondary characters. Plus the detailed plotting was spot on, having readers wondering what could possibly happen next.

You can read this as a stand alone book or in series order but either way I highly recommend The Highland Renegade by Amy Jarecki.

I’ve been waiting for Robert Grant’s story…

And his and Janet’s story was more of the rollicking danger and suspense (and heated romance) I’ve come to expect from this series! The stories have a similar rhythm but that didn’t lessen the romance or the danger the hero and heroine found themselves in…

I quickly got lost in the Scottish brogue and the adventure as Janet and Robert eluded the English while fighting each other – and the elements – on their run to safety. Both strong and independent, they would have to rely on each other to survive and get home in one piece. Their families were bitter enemies so love was not in the cards for them. They knew that but sometimes what should happen and what does happen are happily two very different things…

Janet and Robert had to fight through many things to prove over and over their feelings could withstand any challenge… And, luckily, it did! Another get lost in the past read!

Laird Robert Grant has had his eye on Janet Cameron, daughter of a highland laird, for a while even though the 2 clans are sworn enemies. When she travels to a nearby town with her brother, Kennan, to celebrate the festival of Samhain, Robert hopes to get to know her better. Unfortunately, due to a series of unfortunate events, Robert ends up rescuing Janet from the clutches of British soldiers and they head to the mountains to lose them.

I enjoyed this story, but I thought Janet was a bit obnoxious in the beginning of the story. Her disdain for Robert was enforced by the opinions of her father and brother. All that changes when due to an accident while fleeing the British, she is forced to recover at Robert's home. I liked Janet's kindness to Robert's sister Emma and slowly she begins to see for herself that Robert is a kind and caring laird. Their attraction for each other grows even though Robert knows Janet's father will never give his permission for Robert to marry Janet. The story dragged a bit getting to the conclusion and I did skip a number of pages to reach the end. Fans of Scottish history and romance will enjoy this story.

This story was hard to put down. With the danger, the humor, and the love, I just wanted to find out what was next. Robert was protective from the beginning, and he was willing to change the situation so that he could have what he wanted, Janet. She also changed her perspective as she got to know Robert and realized not all was as it seems, in more ways than one. Emma and Ciar were wonderful secondary characters, and I would love to know more about them. I highly recommend this book.

I received a copy of this book through Netgalley, and this is my unsolicited review.

The Highland Renegade is the fifth book in the Lords of the Highlands series by Amy Jarecki. It can easily be read as a standalone book but I think once you read it, if you haven't read the other books, you will want to do just that.

From the very first page to the last this book is a real page-turner, I wanted to read it as quickly as possible to find out how it would end. It's one thing knowing a book will have a happy ending, but the joy is getting to that ending.

Janet Cameron convinces her brother to take her with him to the Samhain celebrations. Her step-mother is very close to marrying her off to any man, probably one that Janet won't like at all. She wants to take the opportunity at the celebrations to try to find her own husband. Unfortunately, the only man she fancies, but would never admit to it, is Laird Robert Grant. He and his clan have been enemies of the Cameron clan for as long as she can remember. Besides, he has recently accused her family of stealing cattle from him which they definitely did not.

Robert Grant has seen Janet on various occasions, he knows he shouldn't be attracted to her, but he is. He has no intention of doing anything about it though. Even if he wanted to it would be impossible to spend any time with her because of the rivalry between their clans. All that changes at the Samhain celebrations. Janet slaps a redcoat soldier when he won't take no for an answer when he asks her to dance. Robert steps in to tell the man to leave her alone, he follows the request with a punch to the face! That's when the trouble begins.

Robert tells Janet to run with her brother, he will be running with his clan. They have to escape before they both end up in Jail. Although a trial would see them released there is no telling how long they would be rotting in jail waiting for the trial. Besides which, Janet would be vulnerable to the likes of the soldier who started all the trouble.

Janet and her brother find themselves in dire need of help when the redcoats catch up to them and although Robert and his men are well on the way to safety, he turns back when he hears Janet scream. And so starts the building of their relationship. They run together after he rescues her but all sorts of trials and tribulations are ahead of them as they try to get out of the near blizzard conditions and to safety. Time together allows them to see the good in each other, and for their romantic feelings to start to surface. Can they have a future together, it doesn't seem likely. But first and foremost they have to get the redcoats of their backs.

This book truly was fabulous. The drama and adventure of it were captivating enough, but the romance between the Laird and Janet was absolutely perfect. He was the perfect hero, and she is the perfect woman for him. Their passion knows no bounds when they give in to it. The author certainly knows how to write an amazingly good steamy encounter! The secondary characters introduced in the story were ones that I hope to hear about more in future stories. Especially Emma, Robert's sister. She was born blind but hasn't let it stop her enjoying her life, she plays music, runs the house, and Janet even teaches her to knit!

I can't sufficiently put into words just how much I loved this book. I recommend that you read it so you can see for yourself just how good it is.

Janet is the daughter of the Cameron chieftain.
Robert is the chieftain, laird of clan Grant.
They are from two clans that have been feuding for generations.
But the attraction between them is great.
Can they overcome the obstacles put before them and fight for their love?
Amy Jarecki knows how to tell a story. She keeps your attention to the story from beginning to end.
I enjoyed this and recommend it to all

Highland Renegade was a surprisingly wonderful romance. I have never read anything by Amy Jarecki but I enjoyed this captivating novel.

The chemistry between the hero and heroine was sizzling with steamy scenes noted. A tale of feuding families and forbidden love. Very fast paced and read in two sittings. This was an excellent Scottish romanc and will not be my last book by this author.

the highland renegade continues amy jarecki's delightful lord of the highlands series about jacobite highlanders. in this latest installment, the cameron and the grant feud is put to the test, especially when miss janet cameron can't seem to stay away from laird robert grant.

when they cross paths at inverlochy, they're still in denial about the deep-seated attraction that keeps their gazes locking and causes their attention to stray. but even early on it's clear that there is something between them.

then robert finds himself coming to janet's rescue and is forced to take refuge with her in a nasty snowstorm. when that eventually clears, he brings her to his home, and as she settles into the household she finds herself admiring the man who happens to be her father's sworn enemy. she does her best to intervene to set things right, but pride keeps her father and robert from settling those differences and they are separated.

all is not lost, and the way this tangle is resolved is hugely satisfying. i do wish we'd crossed paths at least once more with the villain of the story in earlier moments. but this is a minor quibble and this story on the whole was pretty wonderful.

**the highland renegade will publish on january 8, 2019. i received an advance reader copy courtesy of netgalley/grand central publishing (forever) in exchange for my honest review.

Amazing backdrop and an awesome storyline makes this a story I didn't want to end, I could not stop turning the pages, it was exciting, it was interesting and the characters were likeable. I won't say what happens as I think this will spoil the enjoyment of reading for yourself, all I can say, is to grab a copy of this magnificent book.

I received a digital galley of this book though it doesn't influence my thoughts in any way.

This latest installment in the Lords of the Highlands series was everything I hoped for in a Scottish Historical romance and so much more. It was full of dashing kilted Highlanders, a clan feud, feisty heroine, romance, adventure, and the power of working together for a common cause.

I can't even begin to explain how much this book has meant to me nor just how beloved the characters of become as I get further into this series but if I do highly recommend checking out this series because it's a wonderful mix of history blended with Amy Jarecki's fascinating spin on how life might have been for these Highlanders and those they loved.

Do yourself a favor and go pick yourself up a copy!

Received in exchange for a honest review.

I love Amy Jarecki’s books. I love the angst that isn’t really angst. I love the enemy to lovers concept of this one especially. But what struck me is that Janet and Robert were enemies due to a feud that spanned centuries and no one can really say why they were still fighting.

We start with Robert accusing Janet’s family of stealing his cattle. Only as he says this he does investigate. From here, we see Janet and her brother off to town where Robert is as well. We have Robert with his attraction to Janet, Janet also fighting hers and in the background the story of the English soldiers and one in particular who is a total rake. He thinks that he can just stomp on everyone and they will bow. ONly he is in the Scottish Highlands now and those men do not take that. They come together and fight. Good thing too because if it wasn’t for that, Janet and her brother would be in deep doodooo.

At one point we have Robert and Janet together as they race to not get caught by the soldiers. As this is going on, they learn about one another. And we see that Robert isn’t all that he seems. He is a fair and honest man. He is kind and hard working but very stubborn. We see how much he loves his sister and protects her as well. I can’t wait to see his sister’s story. That will be a great tale right there. As they are learning about each other, their attraction sparks more and we get some great intimate moments.

Only all great things have a wrinkle and their romance is no exception. The family feud takes part in this tale and we see our favorite couple come apart. Only we also see that Robert shows her family who he is and how much of a stand up guy he is as well and these two give us a beautiful ending.

The story is adventurous, amorous and entertaining. Robert and Janet capture you from the beginning and their story keeps you in the moment. When we get to the danger they are in Amy Jarecki has you at the edge of your seat and with bated breath. The attraction and romance is fun and intimate but also feels forbidden at first and this makes it more alluring for me. All in all a wonderful tale that has you from the beginning with its adventure, danger, romance and characters you can’t help but love.

I really liked this Highlander read. Robert falls for the daughter of his sworn enemy when he rescues her from the English. Can she truly trust an enemy of her father? This is a fast-paced read with plenty of drama and great chemistry. The characters are such fun and the story really takes you back in time on an adventure. I was hooked from beginning to end.

Holy Snapdragons!! Can a story get any better than this one? Hard to do when there is a braw, fierce, handsome, highland warrior, one Robert Grant, Laird of Clan Grant, who is everything one would want (well I mean the ladies, umm yes he is something!). Janet Cameron has traveled with her brother to attend the Samain celebration and hopes to find a husband among those present. Of course her friend pushes her toward Robert, but the Grants and Camerons have a long feud and recent developments have then at odds again. Janet is very strong willed and refuses to be linked to Robert, but fate has a hand it seems when they are drawn together.
English Redcoats are in the area, supposedly keeping the peace in Scotland. But the leader has his eye on Janet and pursues her. When it becomes evident the man will not leave her alone and intends to arrest her, Robert steps in to protect her. One thing leads to another and the adventure or rather harrowing experiences begin. Robert vows to himself, "Janet Cameron would be safe on his watch. Nary a soul will touch her. I swear it."
On a journey for their lives, through a winter storm, riding in land that is difficult, even in good weather and a gut wrenching fall, the enemy continues their pursuit. Janet is so strong and determined to survive and Robert seems hard, but deep down he has a lot of feelings. They are strongly aware of each other and the emotions were off the charts!
I truly loved these two and Amy has brought them to life. I can feel the cold and angst with her amazing descriptions and wonderful words. This is one of my favorite books I have read this year but is seems every story written in this series is outstanding!! Cannot wait for the next book!!

I adore this series so much, so when Forever offered me a copy of The Highland Renegade, you better believe I jumped on it! In this story, we get a bit of a Hatfields and McCoys twist. The heroine's family has feuded with the hero's clan for a while. So, Janet doesn't think highly of Robert. Robert doesn't let that stop him from saving her!

Janet certainly is sassy so don't assume this is a typical historical romance. There isn't the Regency behaviors and I find that freeing. After a few initial meetings, Janet and Rob end up fleeing danger together which always leads to intense feelings. But then they are separated again. However, now they both know there are mutual feelings for each other and Rob isn't going to let anything get in the way. His opportunity comes when Janet is in danger (again).

Rob is a wonderful hero! He is strong and brave and, despite Janet's family's feelings, a good and honorable man. I really enjoyed his character and his drive to fight for Janet. Like I mentioned above, you do get a kind of feuding families story here and these 2 wonder if they could ever be together. Its all very West Side Story and I totally dug that!

The Highland Renegade is perfect for fans of historical romance who want something different than a regency and like the slightly forbidden vibe in their romance. I hope Jarecki continues to write this series-I am very interested in Rob's sister! Also, her attention to historical detail is delightful! As a history major, I just love when an author really puts in the time and effort to be as historically accurate as possible, especially for a less common time period.
