I received a complimentary copy of this from NetGalley and I am voluntarily reviewing it.
I really enjoyed reading this story. There was a gritty plot to this story. Dr. Cecilia Lu is from the CDC working in Detroit in finding a cure for the Detroit Flu. Hank goes to the hospital where she is working and kidnaps her. The story evolves into a complex journey into the shifter world for Dr. Lu. While Hank fights his attraction to Cecilia as he is unsure if the magic of the shifter bound has affected her the same as it has him. He wants to give her time to "fall in love." I truly adored Hank and his struggle to overcome his instincts to bound with Cecilia and give her time for her for this to happen.
I adored the fact that this story was written in a dual POV format. Reading shifter paranormals it is a must to have this. Trying to understand something like shifters and their actions is only going to happen if the reader see the character's thoughts.
I had a hard time putting this down and if I had to, I quickly picked it back up. I adored reading this story and look for the the next one as there was a glimpse at the end of the next story.
I highly recommend this if you enjoy reading shifter romance.
Pretty good overall. Interesting twist on shifters by adding in the science and latent DNA angle. I liked the oddly slow burn of the book (not really slow burn at all since the story takes place over like 36 hours but they don't actually get together sexually until the very last pages)
I love a good shifter book, always. Toss in a scientist heroine and a scarred bear and stick a fork in me, I'm happily done! I've enjoyed this series so much..and the bad guys, nicely played author lady, nicely played!
The world has become too obsessed with werewolves when there are so many better options out there to explore, so maybe there was trouble from the start.
Dr. Cecilia Lu must learn to put what science has taught her aside to embrace the magics around her in the world in order to not just cure the ‘Detroit Flu’ but also find love. This installment picks up where the last leaves off, but can be read as stand-alone novel.
And honestly, there was this incredulous feeling to all of it. If you're looking for hot steamy sex, this probably isn't for you. If you're looking for a lot of talk about wombs and procreation then.... maybe?
I think I'm just not the right audience for this.
Yes, my library has purchased a copy of this book for our collection. Specifically, they've purchased an eBook copy of the book. I would recommend this title through Readers’ Advisory, book clubs, events, etc., if patrons ask about romance books involving bears. This is not a book that I'd recommend to my branch Book Club ladies because they normally read non-fiction and classics.
I have been really enjoying this series by Kathy Lyons. Not only are bear shifters one of my favorites I happen to love series with them as the focus.
This story is really gets into the whole virus idea and it's feels a little syfy channel. Loved it. I love how these two interact with each other. They just work.
I can't wait to see what's next.
WHY DOES THERE ALWAYS HAVE TO BE BABIES.
No seriously. Why? The story could have been really good, without the "so the if we have sex there will automatically be babies" bull. It had nothing to do with the story and ruined a lot for me. I was tempted to drop to two stars, but the amusement otherwise made me leave it at 3.
This is part of a series and you definitely need to read the rest for the plot to make sense. Without there are a lot of holes and things that don't make sense.
Cecelia works for the CDC trying to cure the "Detroit Flu" a mysterious illness that causes violent illness and degradation of the brain. One night while working she is kidnapped by Hank, a bear shifter. Hank is convinced Cecelia can cure the flu if she has all the pieces and that includes knowing about shifters
Bound to the Bear by Kathy Lyons is book 5 in the Grizzlies Gone Wild series. This is the story of Hank Coleman and Cecilia Lu. I have read the previous book but feel you can make this a standalone book if you wish to do so.
Cecilia is a Doctor who is working on the flu virus outbreak. Hank is a bear shifter who is worried about his clan so he kidnaps Cecilia and brings her to his Alpha to help with the out break they have.
But Hank quickly starts thinking that Cecilia is his mate. Cecilia believes in science not magic or any other unproven things...so Hank has to convince her of who he is. Cecilia is put into danger by other shifter wanting her knowledge which leads Hank to go after her again.
Exciting read!
I requested an advance copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for my unbiased review.
It took me awhile to finish this but it was good. I like how each of the thought was written and how they were presented.
I look forward to reading the next book.
~P.S.
I have a head ache and it is like hot in the office when i was writing this down... so pardon if this is too short.
A paranormal romance, but the main story is a doctor trying to find a cure for an epidemic and it just happens to be affecting the shifter community the most. So a bear is told to kidnap her and that's where the fun starts there wolf, bears and crazy scientists a really good book.
When Detroit is hit by a mysterious flu that isn't just killing people but making them go insane then Dr Cecilia Lu who works for the CTC has to be brought into it to help solve the problem The shifters of Detroit know more than they are letting on and bear shifter and military trained Hank Coleman is sent to get her so the problem can be solved. Only problem his bear has decided that she is his mate but he isn't so sure His bear can be pretty hard to control and he sure isn't going to let it have free reign in his life. Bur as they fight for survival love will blossom. This is a superbly written story that draws you in and keeps you turning the pages no lovey dovey shifters here this is the hard gritty fight for survival kind of shifters
i was given a copy of this book but this is true and honest review
This Grizzlies Gone Wild romance is a thrilling ride with death defying suspense and a sizzling romance. This fast paced and smooth flowing plot keeps readers on the edge of their seat with essential events, adrenaline pumping intrigue and surprising twists. The Detroit Flu is taking its toil and the shifters have a radical idea that has Hank doing the unthinkable which pulls Dr. Cecilia Lu into the shifter world and that just the beginning of the non-stop events that take place in this romance as it keeps readers hanging on to the edge of their seat and unable to put this book down.
Cecilia and Hank are two strong and captivating characters that have undeniable chemistry but lots of monumental obstacles to overcome during their suspenseful romance. The passion is hot and steamy but his relationship takes an emotional toll on the couple, especially as Cecilia gets a pretty rough introduction into the shifter world and what it means to be with such a sexy and rugged bear shifter. And if that’s not enough to keep readers enthralled in the story, the wolves decide they want a piece of Cecilia as well which adds even more turbulence to the story.
This series has just gotten wilder as it answers some questions but adds a few major twists that has war brewing between the shifters and I couldn’t help but be fascinated by the way Cecilia and Hank handled everything that was thrown their way.
Loved it!!! Not and sexy shifter military harass hero meets the love of his life and romantic with insue!
With the flu decimating many numbers of people and putting the city under quarantine, Hank reluctantly kidnaps doctor Cecilia Lu in the hopes that her expertise will help resolve the Detroit flu problem among his kind. But first he has to make her see that shifters exist which comes as quite the shock to her.
While Cecilia is combing through data, compiling more information that might help her figure out what's going on, she and Hank are fighting their attraction. I do mean fighting it. Hank wants to make sure it isn't the magic of the mating bond throwing them together so forcefully that even Cecilia feels it. But no matter what's causing the attraction, the pull is strong and neither of them want to really fight it. The fun part is while they are trying not to jump each others bones, they both come up with some funny one liners that had me giggling.
While Cecilia is trying to put the facts together and keep herself safe from some shifters that are sticking their noses where they don't belong, she and Hank find themselves in danger. But it's being put in that predicament that helps her figure out what caused the Detroit flu in the first place and helps her solve the mystery.
I love a good medical mystery and when it's paired with a PNR romance, I like it even better. This was such a fun book to read.
Thoroughly enjoyed this book. The plot line is great and drew me in and I found I couldn’t put it down. The chemistry between the two was amazing from the start and both Cecelia and Hank voiced their insecurities internally which just made them seem so real. Loved it.
Bound to the Bear (Kindle) by Kathy Lyons This is the 5th book in the series Grizzlies Gone Wild... Thanks to the publisher and #NetGalley for letting me preview this book. Hank Coleman (Shifter Bear and all around good guy) Cecilia Lu (Dr. working for CDC) they are both trying to find a cure for the "Detroit Flu". (it is causing havoc on shifter DNA. This book has mystery, violence, laughs, tears, steamy sex and HEA. I am looking forward to WHEN AN ALPHA MEETS HIS MATCH.
This is the 5th book in the series. You can read this book without reading the previous books in the series. This book is a little darker. It does pick up where book four ends. The city is suffering from the Detroit flu again. The city has been quarantined and the CDC has been called in. This brings Dr. Cecilia Lu to the city to help find a cure for the flu. Cecilia is brought into the shifter world when Hank takes her from the local hospital.
This book tells you more about the shifter world. There is a magic that prevents people from telling non-shifters about it. This is an interesting twist to the book because you have Cecilia who is all about science and data. The thought of any kind of magic being involved goes against everything that she knows and believes in.
Hank and Cecilia are trying to make their way in less than ideal conditions. They are both strong characters and I enjoyed reading their story.
Awesome!
Fast paced and action packed. Emotional and beautiful. Not your typical shifter romance.
I voluntarily read an advanced copy.
This was a refreshingly different shifter story in that it felt like there was more meat to the story. Besides the boy meets girl part, the shifter element was only part of the Detroit flu story. I was reminded of that old book The Andromeda Strain . A deadly outbreak of a sickness that the CDC was trying to solve with time being of the essence. Enter Dr. Lu of the CDC. When she meets Hank for the first time the was immediate attraction.
The romance between Hank and Dr. Lu was realistic though its definitely "insta-love" by most people's standards. The sexual tension was well paced along with the story. Together the work to solve the cause of the mysterious illness and find live together.
I enjoyed this book and look forward to more stories from this author.
Bound to the Bear is the fifth book in Kathy Lyons’s Grizzlies Gone Wild series. This can be a standalone read, however it picks up two days after Alpha Unleashed ends and events that occured in that book play a role in this one.
For months now, the “Detroit Flu” has been affecting people in the city of Detroit. Scientists are baffled as to why some people get sick, some sprout fur, some become aggressive, and some see hallucinations. But the shifter community in Detroit knows what’s really going on. Shifters are being poisoned, and the source is the drinking water. The question now is who is poisoning shifters, activating latent DNA, creating hybrids, and why. To attempt to find a cure, the new Alpha of the Griz, Simon Gold, needs to bring a scientist into the secret world of shifters. Desperate times call for desperate measures and he instructs shifter muscle Hank Coleman to bring in a CDC scientist.
Hank is a character who showed up in Alpha Unleashed and his quiet strength demanded his story to be told. Hank is a man who is caring, patient, and smarter than he gives himself credit for. Cecilia Lu is a scientist with the CDC, who is all about science and facts. But she has another side to her that she didn’t know existed, that is until she walks into Hank in the hallway of the hospital she’s working out of. Hank knows seeing is believing and he knows becoming a huge black bear in a hospital isn’t a good idea. So he kidnaps Dr. Lu in order to take her to a safe place and show her shifters are real.
Once Cecilia realizes there’s a whole new world she never knew about, she becomes even more intrigued. It’s in her DNA to help people and she will do whatever it takes to find a cure. Working together, Cecilia and Hank search for a cure, while also battling their growing attraction for one another. However, what they want to do goes against what the person behind the “flu” wants and danger lurks around every corner.
I really liked the characters of Hank and Cecilia. There is so much more to them than meets the eye. They are opposites in every way, but their sexual tension and chemistry is off the charts. So much so, it was actually a little too much for me. I loved the humor placed throughout the book to ease some of the potentially dark moments. The fight scenes Kathy has written are really good. I wish there were more of them. One thing is for certain, a war is brewing and the shifter community will never be the same. I’m so looking forward to the next book, Taming Her Mate.
