Robin Carr has written a series involving the people of Timberlake and I have loved them all. The Best of Us does not disappoint! The families in the previous novels play roles in this one and add to the flavor and flow of the entirety.
The Best of Us has explosive love, new and fresh, that is hampered by the past and edging toward the lack of solutions viable for the lovers. Finding the same page is going to take some introspection and hard lessons for it to be found.
With each new book in the Sullivan's Crossing series, I become more and more in love with these characters and the world Robyn Carr has created in Timberlake, Colorado. Although each book in this series could actually be read as a stand-alone, reading them all gives you background information as to family relationships and friendships. And believe me, once you get started on this series, you will absolutely want to read them all. Each book centers on one or two of these fabulous characters, but it's easy to see how all of their lives are entwined. I am so thankful to Netgalley and the publisher for allowing me to read this advance copy.
THE BEST OF US centers on the local doctor, Leigh Culver, who has spent the past years trying to get over a disastrous breakup. And then there is Rob, the owner of the pub down the street, who has been raising his two teenage boys by himself after the death of his wife several years ago. We also become reaquainted with Sully, the loveable older gentleman who owns and runs the campground and general store at Sulllivan's Crossing. In this book we are also introduced to Helen, Leigh's aunt, who happens to be a writer.
As I have said before, Robyn Carr creates multi-dimensional characters who warm your heart and make you feel like you are part of the story. I cried and I smiled, feeling every emotion imaginable. And in the end I had this overwhelming feeling of happiness, the love of family, and the fact that I wanted to pack my bags and move to Timberlake, Colorado. Great series from an author I have grown to love!
Dr Leigh Culver has moved to Sullivan’s Crossing to run the towns medical clinic. She wanted a slower life after living in Chicago. Rob Shandon is the owner of the local pub and Father to two teenage boys. Leigh’s Aunt Helen who raised her comes to town for a visit.
This is a story about love, family and second chances. There are 3 romances in the book that cover 3 different generations. Sullivan’s Crossing is an idyllic small town where everyone knows each other and they all step in to help when a crisis occurs. This is part of a series but it could be read as a stand alone. Thank you to net galley for an advanced readers copy.
Sullivan's Crossing #4
I loved this book and I adore this series!!
I also loved the Virgin River series, I even got my non-reader mom to buy and read them.
I wanted to live in Virgin River until Sullivan's Crossing at Continental Divide Trail- Colorado Trail
was described to me and now I want to live here. It sounds marvelous- I can see it in my head.
Dr. Leigh arrived last summer just in time for flu season, and now it is Spring and she can enjoy the beauty.
Since she stayed, the people now depend on her and she feels content.
The quiet and the slower pace is good for her. She is making friends.
Rob Shandon who is the pub owner and raising 2 sons alone since wife/mother died 9 years ago.
All of his time and energy are reserved for them.
A young girl on the brink of a whole new chapter in her life has a change in plans.
Again as we meet new friends in the chapter of life in Sullivan's Crossing, we also catch up and get reacquainted with old friends.
Sometimes new love makes us grateful and terrified.
I highly recommend this book and this series!!
from the previous books. We see new love blossom
What a wonderful and emotional story. I absolutely loved it. It was well written and each character was well developed I felt as if I were right there with them experiencing everything. This is a story that will suck you in from page one and you will not be able to put it down. Leigh and Rob were a perfect fit and Helen and Sully has me just as entertained. Highly recommended read.
Robyn Carr has written many novels over several series; fans of hers will know that she has written the Virgin River, Thunder Point and Grace Valley books. Her latest series takes place in Sullivan's Crossing. The Best of Us is novel number four. Old characters reappear but, if you have not read the other titles, this can be read as a stand alone. Love grows across three generations in this story. The teen pair are challenged by a threatening medical diagnosis; the couple in their thirties face an unplanned pregnancy and the couple in their sixties show that love can happen at any age.
Setting is also important in this novel. Sullivan's Crossing is that small town that people think of when they imagine small town life as idyllic. There is a beautiful setting near the mountains, kind people and a strong sense of community.
Long term fans of Roby Carr will most definitely welcome her latest book.
I always enjoy a good second chance romance book. This is the next installment of a series. I do believe it is helpful to have read the previous stories but also great as a stand alone. The writing and descriptions in the book give a nice cozy family feeling that stays with you after you finish!
A beautiful well written story about love happening to any age. Sully and Helen's story is wonderful. Love in your older years is an unexpected blessing. Rob and Leigh have a lot to overcome even with their explosive sexual attraction. Oooo this book was hard to put down!
This is another delightful addition to the Sullivan's Crossing series. I have truly enjoyed all the books in this series so far because the people are so real and down to earth. Robyn has a gift for making me feel like I am right there with the characters. The descriptions of the area are vivid and the characters are well developed with the author's skillful, talented writing. This book contains strong emotions, humor, romance in the young and old, good people, plain common sense, in a lovely setting. What more could you possibly ask for?
Wonderful story of second chances at happiness and love. I loved Rob and Leigh. I loved the family atmosphere throughout the town. I especially loved Sully getting his hea. Perfection.
The latest in the Sullivan’s Crossing series. Local doctor Leigh doesn’t know what hits her when pub owner Rob comes into her life and her Aunt Helen comes to the area. ARC from NetGalley.
Leigh has decided to leave the stressful job of working in a Chicago hospital, and has moved to small town Colorado instead. Working in a clinic, she is slowly getting to know the people in the friendly town, including single father Rob, who runs the local bar and eatery. Sparks fly and the chemistry is off the chart for these two. At the same time, her aunt Helen comes to visit, and meets Sully, a divorced man who runs a campground outside of town. Also, Rob's oldest son, who is a senior in high school, learns his girlfriend of six months has a brain tumor. It has been awhile since I've read one of Ms. Carr's books, not sure why, but truly enjoyed this one. Love how rich her characters are, and so blended in the fabric of the story it makes it really hard to put down. A sweet story, and one I highly recommend.
I know I've read other books in this series, but maybe I haven't read all of them (either that or I forgot what happened.) Carr kept referencing characters I couldn't quite place, so I might have missed a book or two. This one felt REALLY episodic.
This is the 4th book in Sullivans Crossing. I assume after the last Jones sibling got their HEA that the series was finished boy was I wrong. Dr. Leigh Culver(whom we met in #3) has moved to Timberlake from the hustle and bustle of Chicago. She has long giving up on finding love after her fiancee dumped her years ago which left her heartbroken. Along comes Rob Shondan a single father widower who runs the local pub in the community. At first it doesn't seem like these two will have alot in common but surprisingly the chemistry was so combustable in a comedic sweet way. Loved the back and forth jokes amongst them and the other characters like Leigh and her auntie Helen. I loooove that Robyn Carr gave Sully a love interest after all seniors need love too. It was great catching up to the Jones siblings Cal, Dakota and Sierra and their significant others. Reading this series gives me such a warm sweet feeling and this title was no different and a wonderful addition to the series. Review on amazon and goodreads.
Sullivan’s Crossing is an absolute must read series! I completely devoured The Best of Us because it was SO DARN GOOD! I enjoy novels that have depth, but aren’t downers and Robyn Carr has a real gift for pulling at your heartstrings at parts, but at other parts you find yourself lol’ing— love that! From reading the book’s description I loved the premise, then combine the amazingly endearing characters and the charming location of Sullivan’s Crossing and it’s a recipe for an amazing 4.5 star read! Whenever I read a Sullivan’s Crossing installment, I always enjoy catching up with past favorites! I highly encourage everyone to read The Best of Us, but I promise that you will love the entire series!
This book is part of a series. I did enjoy this book but at times I did not like the main character, she seemed immature to me due to some of her actions. I was happy to see returning characters from previous books. Robyn Carr is an author that I can always recommend to customers and know that they will enjoy the book.. I wonder if there will be more books in this series as she seemed to wrap up all the different story lines
I stayed up all night reading this book. It was fabulous, I couldn't put it down. I cried happy tears and sad tears, I giggled and I laughed out loud. I want to say this is the best book yet, but I love all of Robyn Carr's books. I highly recommend reading this.
I really enjoyed the glimpse into a writers life. I can't wait until the next one. Thank you netgalley and Mira for allowing me to read this wonderful look for an honest review
Leigh Culver was a Doctor in Chicago but the pace got to her so she settled for being a small town doctor in Colorado. Her aunt raised her when her mother died and she hoped she would visit her often in Colorado.
When her aunt Helen visits her, they are both surprised at how content she in in Sullivan’s Crossing and soon they both make a life, find happiness and love.
Sometimes you just need a Robyn Carr book and this one doesn’t disappoint with laughter, tears and happiness.
