A couple of things you need to know about this book from the start: it is not a quick read. Martin himself asks his readers to linger, read slowly, write in the margins. I could only handle about one chapter a week. To benefit the most, you'll need to wrestle things out, mull over what Martin has written, and see how you can apply it to your own life.
Next, this is not an easy read (which I alluded to above). It's deep, it's convicting. If you are serious about getting to know the God of the Bible personally and deepening that relationship, this book will be a big help along the way.
I have a list of people with whom I want to share this book. There is so much good stuff in it! I'll also need to re-read it before very long. Martin has done an amazing job of pulling together verses from all over the Bible, showing how they are related, and opening up new insights to the reader.
This is a very practical book. Martin offers ways in each chapter to apply what he's written – things he's already done in his own life and with his accountability group.
I highly recommend this book!

What a talented storyteller Charles Martin is! He takes the stories we all know and love from the Bible and breaks them down into modern vernacular. You will glean new insight!
This book has forever changed how I view the gospel. I have long been a Christian, but Martin made the gospel real in a way I have never considered. He reaches deep into the surroundings of the crucifixion, the potential thoughts of those witnessing the events.
Martin isn't trying to change the Bible, he is attempting to illustrate what the events were like in those three days. He adamantly states he is not adding to the gospel or the Word of God, he is just trying to help others read and understand it in a more personal way.
Charles Martin has been blessed with a real gift. I highly recommend this book to everyone; in fact, I have already told friends about it! I will be buying a paper copy of this book for re-reading.

I’ve read many of Charles Martin’s fiction stories and he is a talented storyteller. That goes for this non-fiction work as well. I was taken on a journey through this storyteller’s own journey, where he explores bible stories in search of the answer to “What If It’s True?”
I enjoyed this book for the same reason I enjoy biblical fiction. The stories bring bible times into a clearer view through research, etc. and illuminate answers to be found in the Scriptures. This is a lovely look into the bible, the life of Jesus, and the important quest of finding answers.

This is a great book. I appreciated his views of what might have happened in different scripture stories, he is very clear that they are only his opinions and not scripture. His chapter on forgiveness is excellent.
I received this book free from the publisher for the purpose of an honest review.
This is a "Must Read" book. Charles Martin has wrote a book that will speak to your heart about Jesus. He tells you in the front of the book, to read this book with your bible and notebook beside you Compare what he is saying to what the bible says. This is a book that I will buy in hardcopy and re-read often. I have never read any of his other books, but this one is outstanding! Thank you Thomas Nelson via NetGalley for the ARC copy of this book. This is my honest opinion. This is an awesome book!
What if it is true? People have been asking this question about the life of Jesus for centuries. Their eternal destination hangs on the answer they choose. To answer the question, you have to know the facts.
Though many books have been written about Jesus, His ministry, death, and resurrection, this one approaches it in a different manner. Charles Martin uses his experience with following Jesus, and shares it as a storyteller. He acknowledges the warning in Revelation about adding to the Bible, but uses a little imagination to show how events could have happened, since actual details are not always provided.
Starting with the birth of Jesus, and the reason for that, and going through His ministry and crucifixion and resurrection, What If It's True? provides a different look that can help non-believers understand what Jesus did for each of us.The format is non-threatening and easy to read.
Since believers also have to decide if they are willing to trust the complete Bible, the book can also help them get a better grip on it what Jesus went through. They can then be more prepared to share it with others.
