Wow! Another Mary Burton book that did NOT disappoint! This had all the blocks checked for me to make this a winner...
A little romance? Check
Twisted story line? Double check
Twists and turns? Double check
Good characters? Check and Check
Anything out of left field? Nope
It was a great story! Even though I kind of guessed who the ultimate Villian was, I still didn’t understand all the players or why so I didn’t truly feel like I figured it out if that makes sense. The story kept me on my toes and some of the visualizations has me cringing, just the way I like it! I definitely suggest you check out this book!
Cut and Run is a romantic suspense full of mystery and surprises. Dr. Faith McIntyre finds herself connected to a murder that is being investigated by her romantic partner Texas Ranger Mitchell Hayden. Missing teenagers and an unexpected twin, throws Faith in to a case that spans decades and may hold all the clues as to her birth family. Full of action and twists, the ending comes fast and hard with some unexpected revelations that make the pages fly by. The characters throw out the line and the plot reels the reader in for a story that delivers spot on suspense with the perfect touch of romance. A great read that will leave the reader coming back for more from the author. My voluntary, unbiased review is based upon a review copy from Netgalley.
Thanks to #NetGalley for this ARC copy of #CutAndRun
As always, Burton’s plot is provocative and alluring. She leads the reader down a twisted tale of missing girls and murder. The characters were well developed and the multifaceted plot worked well to advance all the different directions of suspense and mystery that were occurring. The reader is able to become immediately invested in the main characters and outcome. As all good mystery novels go, Burton keeps you guessing until the very end with no shortage of suspense along the way. The one and only criticism I found with this novel is that in her attempt to develop Faith’s character, Burton created unnecessary dialogue and short story lines. When these situations failed to be a contributory factor to the plot, it felt anticlimactic and gratuitous. However, with that being said, this is a great book and recommended read. 4 stars.
Another riveting suspense novel from Mary Burton. This romantic suspense novel (heavy on the suspense, light on the romance) kept me on the edge of my seat throughout. I really liked the characters of medical examiner Faith and Texas Ranger Mitchell, as well as the secondary characters in this book. I hope FBI agent Macy gets a book; she was probably my favorite character in the whole story. The plot of this one is equally creepy and riveting, and the telling of the story is done well.
Thank you to NetGalley and Montlake Romance for providing an ARC for review.
This latest from Mary Burton takes the saying “sins from the past” to a whole new level. The past comes crashing into the present and in turn affecting so many lives.
This was a great suspense that kept you turning the pages. A large cast of characters both alive and dead that where all pieces to large puzzle that at its conclusion had great ramifications.
I hope there will be a future book with at least the twin sisters story (btw, not a spoiler as that is in the books description)
Another great story by Mary Burton.
Medical Examiner Faith McIntyre has a new body on her slab – Jack Crow. Tortured and killed, Ranger Mitchell Hayden is looking for her help in discovering who could have killed the man. They’re both drawn into a decades old web of lies and secrets once Crows adoptive daughter, FBI Agent Macy Crow, comes to town and within hours is hit intentionally by a car and left for dead.
The fact the Macy could be Faith’s clone isn’t lost on either Mitchell or Faith.
Both search for answers that have been decades in the making, leading them to an undeniable conclusion.
I finished CUT AND RUN in a day because I couldn’t put it down! The characters are wonderful and the relationship between Faith and Mitchell made me sit up and take notice of how sexual tension is supposed to be written!
Thanks to Netgalley and Montlake for a sneak peek arc for an honest opinion of the work. 5 well deserved stars from me.

CUT AND RUN
She believed his beautiful lies, a mother who didn’t believe she was taken, the parents who didn’t want her and the baby. He tells her a decent couple want her baby, then will the nightmare end she hopes.Jack Crow a recluse, collected old auto parts, and patched up peoples wound. now he was murdered, didn’t make any sense of who would want to kill him.
Non stop suspense, good plot and good characters. A story that was unique, and holds ones attention to the end. She has a way with her writing, to bring a lot of angles into the story bringing a surprising ending. Suspense that will leave you wanting to read more by her.
Given ARC by Net galley and Montlake for my voluntary review and my honest opinion.
This author is a pro at suspense, and with all the twists and turns in this story, you are left at the edge of your seat. The writing is top notch, the characters well rounded and perfectly written. The story was so suspenseful, I couldn't put it down, I had to keep reading to find out what happened, right until the end. If you are looking for an edge of your seat, can't put it down story, look no further.
A nice bit of a twist on the usual crime thriller. While in the beginning i thought I had read the story before, it turned out to be something different than expected and very intriguing.
This book kept me on my toes with all the twists and turns! Nonstop reading for me me with the murder, suspense, romance and long buried secrets. Very well written but alot of characters to keep track of. Would definitely recommend though!
Mary Burton gives credit to suspense in Cut and Run’s plot of kidnapping, murder, and decades old secrets coming to the surface that upturn emotions as soon as they are revealed.
I was intrigued by the idea of twins never knowing the other existed, working to find out how they came to be separated, and while there were plot lines left unanswered, I can honestly say that I was interested very much in the 30 year unfolding of facts.
There was a limited amount of romance— I understand why Burton put that brief interlude in there to tie the Texas Ranger Mitchell Hayden and Medical Examiner Faith McIntyre together to solve a case— however I thought the storyline could have been stronger without added sentiment, especially since character development was slight and the history behind the murders was exciting enough.
I received an ARC from NetGalley and the publisher in exchange for an honest review.
Faith McIntyre has seen a lot in her career as a medical examiner, but nothing prepares her for the body on her slab today. FBI agent Macy Crow looks just like Faith, she is, in fact, the twin Faith never knew existed. Joining up with Texas Ranger Mitchell Hayden, Faith attempts to find out why Macy was killed and ends up discovering the bodies of three missing women. Macy was on the trail of a serial killer, one who is not prepared to stop. Burton can always be counted on for her smart heroines and tightly woven plots
FBI agent Macy Crow’s Father has been murdered. Macy returns to town to handle his affairs. Her Father has left her clues to a mystery that could have been the motive for his death. Someone wants to keep the secrets from being revealed, at any price. When Macy is severely injured in a hit and run Texas Ranger Mitchell Hayden is shocked to realize Macy is a dead ringer for Travis County medical examiner Faith McIntyre. There is no way these two women aren’t related.
I have been reading Mary for years, she is a must read for any book she writes. This one didn’t disappoint! Two women who look alike, a missing girl, and more dead bodies, do they all connect? The answer takes you down a twisted road to an ending with a twist. You won’t be able to put this one down. Thank you to net galley for an advanced readers copy.
