Thank you NetGalley for the ARC of Deranged by T.R. Ragan that I read and reviewed.
I did not think it was possible but the Jessie Cole series just keeps getting better. This third book in the series had Jessie and Ben looking for more answers about Ben’s past.
I loved how as they got closer to some answers door got closed and more things happened to throw road blocks in their way. I can’t decide if Ben is a good guy or a bad guy and it is driving me crazy. I can’t wait to see where Ragan is going to take this series next.
This book was packed full of action and suspense and it also had our favorite charters in it from the series. Needless to say, Deranged gets five out of five stars.

The 3rd installment in the Jessie Cole series is just as thrilling as the ones before. And even better! Colin is after a serial killer. Jessie is trying to keep the agency afloat and takes an infidelity case. All while searching into Ben’s background. As we get answers to his past, we get more questions. And we get to meet his father! So much going on that I couldn’t put Deranged down. I’m really hooked with this series. So ready for the next one!

In Jessie Cole Book #3, we become acquainted with Dean Crawford, a prison psychologist and guidance counselor. He is quite proficient in his work and displays patience and compassion. We see him handling a few patients; particularly Lou Wheeler who has been antisocial and uncooperative with other inmates & guards. Lou swears that he did not kill "that girl"- that it was his son, Ben, who committed the murder. Ben is a friend of Jessie, a private investigator. Ben has amnesia, due to an accident, that started just before the murder years ago...

On another front, we see a young woman playfully mugging for a camera - she wants to be a model. This, at a farm where two elderly people live. She is hung in a noose - so much for modeling. Colin Grayson, a homicide detective, (and at times a close friend of Jessie) is on the scene soon - accompanied by a rookie, Ren Howe, who is not really into the job. (Ren's dad is an FBI agent who pulled a few strings).

Ben (Wheeler/Morrison) is a crime news reporter, married to Melony, with two children. Ben appears to be upstanding (most of the time) and a good father.
Currently there is a marriage rift, however, and Ben is using a sleeping bag to "crash" in Jessie's office.
Also, Ben is having flashbacks to some of the past and has become aggressive as of late.

Ren helps the cases along when he sees similarities among a number of murder victims - a crescent shaped cut. This ends up being key to murders that may be linked to those who testified against Lou at his trial.

After a few close calls, the murderer is finally caught red-handed. Pieces of the puzzle come together and the fate of all of the characters comes to the forefront.

A good read - now it is time for me to read #1 & #2 of the series! The characters were likeable as the good/bad guys and the story moves quickly - a fast read!

Many thanks to Thomas & Mercer and NetGalley for an interesting read!

Deranged is the third book in the Jessie Cole series. I have loved every book in this series! Deranged was another thriller that had my mind all over the place while trying to figure out what was going on! This killer was beyond deranged and will take you on another twisted, crazy ride.

I love the ongoing side stories as well! As you read each book, we get to know the characters more and more. I still have some questions about Ben though. With that being said.....

I am so looking forward to Buried Deep!

This book is the 3rd installment of the Jessie Cole series and although it is a captivating series it doesn't have the thrills of T.R. Ragan's Lizzie Gardner series. This book was a bit slow for me the mystery of finding out about Ben's past is intriguing but I think it's time the author gets to the point it's starting to drag on a bit. Since trying to figure out about Ben is a chunk of this book and really still not getting an answer there is a lot of assumptions I think it should have taken much more of a back seat to this book .Having Zee be a bigger character in this book was great I enjoyed reading about her. This was a good mystery still has great characters but a bit slow.

Book 3 in the Jessie Cole series and my favourite so far! Jessie, her family and friends are always getting involved in something dangerous and complicated. We learn so much more about the characters in this book while the hunt down the killer, and try to stay alive.

Jessie is still trying to find out who the real Ben is. Since the car accident the reporter has no memory of his past. His father is in prising for murder and claims to be innocent and that Ben is the real killer. While looking into this she is also working an infidelity case that turns to murder. It is all happening.

Thanks to Thomas and Mercer and NetGalley for my advanced copy of this book to read. All opinions are my own and are in no way biased

I would like to thank Netgalley and Thomas & Mercer for an advance copy of Deranged, the third novel to feature Sacramento based PI Jessie Cole and reporter Ben Morrison.

When Jessie's assistant, Zee Gatley, provisionally takes on an infidelity case Jessie is relieved to get the money but unsure about the case. She's proved right when her surveillance subject is murdered under her nose. In the meantime her boyfriend, detective Colin Grayson is hunting a serial killer and Ben is discovering more unsettling information about the past that he can't remember.

I thoroughly enjoyed Deranged which isn't a difficult novel to read or understand. It has plenty of action scenes which sometimes come across as set pieces but what I enjoy is the verve of the narrative. It is told from various points of view, including the killer, and that could be confusing but the author helpfully announces each point of view so the reader know exactly who is speaking. If I wanted to nitpick I would say that the ending is more of a whimper than a bang and seems rushed and that the killer is less than convincing but the sheer gusto of the narrative propels both the plot and the reader forward relentlessly. It is great entertainment.

The saga of Ben Morrison and his retrograde amnesia continues. Was he a killer as a youth or just misunderstood? Who knows but what is certain is that there is more to come and I firmly believe that the inferences to be made in this novel are part of a bigger twist. It's getting a bit stale now and I'm starting to lose interest.

Jessie is just Jessie, smart, brave and loyal and a lovely character to spend time with.

Deranged is a good read which I have no hesitation in recommending.

Love this series with PI Jessie Cole, Deranged by T. R. Ragan is a fast paced, well writ book the story grabs you and does not let go. In this installment Jessie is still looking into her friend Ben's childhood trying to help him get his memories back and to help him figure out if he is a good person or bad person as he is suffering from amnesia and has been told by his sister that it is better to leave the past in the past. Thrown into this mix is a serial killer who has Ben in his sights.... Each chapter is written from one characters point of view which keeps this story flowing. I really enjoyed reading this book and look forward to reading the next book Buried Deep! Thank you Netgalley and the Publishers for allowing me to read this ARC book!

Jessie Cole is a PI in Sacramento. She has several cases going. One of them is Ben, a friend who has amnesia from an accident. Bens Father is in prison for murder, but has always said his son actually committed the crime. Ben has been having visions and he is not sure if they are memories or a result of things he has seen in his career as a crime reporter. Ben asks Jessie to help him dig into his past.

This is part of the Jessie Cole series. I haven’t read the previous books but I had no trouble following the story. I was conflicted about Ben. Is he a good guy or not. The book has chapters that are told from each characters viewpoint, you have to pay attention. There were some things from Bens past that weren’t resolved so maybe that will be another book in the series. Thank you to net galley for an advanced readers copy.

T.R. Ragan never disappoints. This was a fast paced and quick read, Jessie Cole is quickly filling the void that Lizzie Gardner left behind.

Deranged
by T. R. Ragan

This is the third book of Jessie Cole Series. Even though this book was so well written and gives you details of the past events to make sure you catch up without feeling like you are wasting time re reading details. I highly recommend reading the first two so you don’t miss out anything because trust me every bit of information is essential to enjoy this fast pase triller. You will be constantly guessing who is who what’s coming next.

Here we continue Jessie Cole’s journey to help Ben Morrison find out more about his life before the accident that gave him amnesia. His keeps getting flashbacks of gruesome events and he still afraid he might be of danger to his own family. While they keep investigating more about his past a new killer is menacing the city and they are all in the path of this serial killer. We will see more of Olivia( Jessie’s niece), Zee ( Jessie’s assistant) and Colin Grayson( FBI agent and Jessie’s boyfriend).

The only reason this wasn’t a 5 stars was the fact that I was expecting more answers in regards of Ben’s story. I guess T. R. wanted to keep us wanting more for next book. It totally work on me because I cannot wait to read the next installment on this series.

Geebus, this book stressed me out. I was at the edge of my seat from start to finish. So much going on, what a ride.

Jessie is such a great character, so are her surrounding cast. Zee is a hoot! And Ben...so much to say on him but I need to know...darn it!!!! And as usual Colin for the save. I gotta funny feeling about his new partner too.

I need the next book please. This author really knows how to keep you glued to your seat!

3.5 Stars.
This is the third book in the Jessie Cole series and I do recommend reading at least book 2 before starting this one.
Jessie Cole is a private investigator who specialises in finding the missing. And in this book she is trying to help out her friend, journalist Ben Morrison who suffers from amnesia and can’t remember 20 odd years of his life.
While looking into Ben’s past Jesse encounters people who want to keep the past in the past and aren’t interested in talking about it. Including Ben’s father, who is in prison for an awful crime he blames Ben for.
“Deranged” was a good, solid read. My only issues were the different characters each chapter. It was a little hard to concentrate with the flipping between characters perspectives. And while we got some answers for Ben and his past, not everything was solved so I’m assuming there will be a book 4. Which I will definitely read.
Overall I enjoyed this book.

Another excellent Jesse Cole novel! Things are a little dark, and scary but worth it in the end. I love that the characters are getting more mature, and thoughtful, although mental illness is definitely always playing a part.

Deranged is the third book in the Jessie Cole series. I have not read the other two and found that this one was easy to keep up with. The story tells parts of past cases and gives enough information that the reader is good to go. Jessie Cole and Ben Morrison are still investigating Ben's past that he lost due to amnesia. The only things he remembers are violent and becoming more frequent and he no longer trusts himself around his family. Throw in a current serial killer running rampant in town that comes way too close to Jessie, her niece Olivia, and her assistant Zee and the story is a wild, fast-paced action thriller. The characters draw the reader in and the story telling keeps you hanging around for a twisted, page turning ending. A good read that will make you want to read the rest of the series. My voluntary, unbiased review based upon a review copy from Netgalley.

Great series! Deranged is Book 3 in the series and I highly recommend reading the first two books to learn about the characters as I feel you will be a little lost otherwise..

Jessie Cole, Zee, Ben, I love their characters and looking forward to the next in this series. Zee is my personal favorite!

Ben had an accident that left him with amnesia with no memory of his past life.... He starts to have violent flashbacks that scare him and make him wonder what kind of person he used to be. Others from his past claim he's not the nice guy he now portrays himself to be. Ben's father, who is in jail for murder insists that Ben was the actual killer and should be the one in jail.

Some questions are answered and others I feel are left for the next in the series. Overall, this was an enjoyable fast paced read although I do admit this was not my favorite out of the 3. I'm hoping for a strong come back with the next in this series and a satisfying ending. I do overall love this series and these characters and can't wait to see what the author comes up with next!

A huge thank you to Bookouture and NetGalley for allowing me an advanced copy of this book.

Thank you to #NetGalley for this ARC of #Deranged

This is the third book in the Jessie Cole series. Ragan provides sufficient background that it can easily be read as a stand-alone but as with most series, it benefits the reader to start from the beginning of the series to get a comprehensive catalogue of the characters.

Private investigator Jessie Cole lives in Sacramento and was recently saved from a serial killer by her friend and investigative crime reporter, Ben Morrison. Coming off the cuffs of committing murder to save his friends, Ben begins to question his past. A past he can’t remember due to an accident that left him with amnesia. As Jessie helps Ben dig deeper into his childhood and the years leading up until the accident, she gets push back from everyone she encounters and a description of a man she doesn’t recognize as her friend. Is Ben really the family man he portrays himself to be or are the strangers of his past giving a better account of him as a man with dark, violent tendencies? And when new threats emerge to threaten Ben’s friends and family, will he be able to keep himself together?

While the story was told from multiple vantage points, Ragan still held a tight plot and was able to keep the story suspenseful. The character development for this book was focused on Ben more so than anyone else. For readers looking for a deeper character profile it would be recommended to start with book one of the series. This is a great, quick read. Good for a weekend getaway. 4 stars

This is the third in the series featuring Jessie Cole, a private investigator in Sacramento, California. It's a good one, but I do strongly suggest reading the other two first. In large part, that's because all the recurring characters have storied (and very troubled) pasts; with so many in the mix here, it helps, I'm sure, if readers already have a leg up on what's happened in the past. I read the first, and I have no doubt I'd have enjoyed this one more if I'd had the second under my belt as well.

At the epicenter here is Jessie's friend Ben Morrison, who is an investigative reporter with a past he can't remember, courtesy of an auto accident. But while Jessie believes in him, plenty of other folks from his past claim he's got a mean, sadistic streak that he's trying to hide. That includes Ben's father, who's in jail for murder (in fact, he insists Ben is "deranged"). Other early-on characters include Jessie's teenage niece Olivia, who lives with her aunt; Jessie's assistant Zee Gatley, who needs meds to control her schizophrenia but is nonetheless colorful and fun; and Colin Grayson, a local homicide detective with whom Jessie has an on-again, off-again romantic relationship.

To kick off the action, a young woman turns up dead in a barn; just as that investigation gets underway, Zee agrees to take on the case of a man who's looking to prove his wife is having an affair (Jessie eschews domestic cases, but Zee wins this battle, in large part because the firm can use the hefty retainer). Meantime, Jessie is trying to uneath Ben's real backstory; she sees him as a friend, but could it be that he really does have a history of violence? Speaking of violence, I must mention that while it doesn't bother me, there's some super-salty language and [brief] descriptions of lewd sexual acts here that might be offputting for those who may be sensitive about such things.

Other murders follow, leading to the suspicion that a serial killer may be at work. Throw in the coach of an athletic team on which Ben's daughter plays; Ben thinks he's up to no good, putting him at odds with his wife and daughter, both of whom think he practically walks on water. Ben's father, Lou, threatens his psychological counselor at Folsom Prison in an effort to get out of jail free. Chapters shift from the perspectives of several characters (plus from that of the killer, whoever he or she may be). While I'm not a huge fan of this technique, it's done well enough that I have no complaint at all.

But the big question is, do any of these goings-on relate to Ben's past and the person he really is? If so, how? Those questions get answered for the most part, with plenty of fodder left for the next book (said to hit the presses early in 2019). Overall, this is an enjoyable, fast-paced read - and I thank the publisher, via NetGalley, for the opportunity to review an advance copy.
