I did not expect this book to be this good! What a warped, twisted, darkly funny look at marriage and life! It's billed as a thriller, but believe me parts are hilarious. I found all the characters wickedly good, especially the detective Ralph Loren. I happen to be going through a divorce after a many decades long marriage and really really really related to Marie. I don't think you need to be going through the same to enjoy this clever and marvelous book!
Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for providing me with a copy to review.

In 1995, Janice and Matt were married. One year from now, Janice would be dead. Matt had been cheating on Janice after less than a year of marriage. She had been late to work to be sure that the girl Matt was cheating with had arrived. Her boss, Jesse, knew she had some problems with Matt and offered to help. She told him no but she did need to leave a bit early. Matt and Janice had kept a gun in the table drawer by the front door. Janice went in the door. A single gunshot...
2018 - On a trip to Estes Park, Colorado, Matt and his wife, Marie, took a hike and while Matt was "taking a leak" in the trees, Marie screams, "Please! Don't! Stop!" Matt runs to find a Park Ranger and tells him how Marie fell off the cliff!"
1995- "My wife, she might be dead". It looked as if Marie had been beaten and doused with gasoline in bed - almost too burned to even ID her. But, Detective Andrew Reid was on the case. The detective had been forced to let Matt go after Janice's boss, Jesse, was found almost dead in an apparent suicide - unrequited love on Jesse's part.
Now, in 2018, Matt joins the search party looking for Marie. Det. Spangler and Det. Loren are put on the case, together. Loren has a shady past with three possible murders from 30 years ago that cannot be proven...
Loren goes to Matt's office and finds a map with an X on the exact spot that Marie fell from. The insurance company had upped Marie's life insurance policy for her to 3 million dollars only months before.
on her husband's say-so. Looks grim for Matt...
When a body is found we all think that it's Marie - but it's that of a woman from Matt's office with whom he was having an affair with at the time. So where is Marie? How could she have been a part in this if Matt saw her fall and no one saw her walk on the way down the cliff? So, Det. Spangler & Det. Loren check the fast-flowing river at the cliff's bottom. Loren picks up a tiny blood stained pebble as evidence, and now they also have rock climbers searching for clues. The rock climbers say that Marie had to have had someone who "... helped her every step of the way."
Now 89 years old, Det. Reid visits the police and states that Matt & Marie were BOTH in on this...
Many Thanks to Flatiron Books and NetGalley for a very entertaining read!!!

This marriage based thriller has elements of Gone Girl, The Couple Next Door, and While You Were Sleeping. With alternate timelines to help the plot unravel, it's a fast and tense ride of a book.

It took a bit to get into As Long as We Both Shall Live but then it began a book long series of plit twists that left me breathless. Impossible to know what will happen next that throws all on its head. Loved it. 5 PLUS Stars.

Holy crap! This was a fun ride to read.
Matt and his wife, Marie, are hiking when an accident happens. Matt believes his wife is dead. His first wife also died under suspicious circumstances. The police have a lot of questions for Matt.
It's amazing that a book labeled as a thriller had me laughing (in a good way) during certain parts. JoAnn Chaney has crafted a thriller that will have you turning the pages with anticipation as you wonder what the next part of the story is going to be. I finished it in a few hours because I just had to know. I was sorry when it ended. I don't want to give too much away, but you'll be questioning each character's actions as the story unfolds. I know a lot of books get labeled as the next Gone Girl and then disappoint. I believe future books in this category will be labeled as the next ALAWBSL.
Thank you NetGalley and Flatiron books!

just an ordinary look at a murder, I honestly found it boring and could not connect to the plot or the characters.
