This is book 2 in the Charley Davidson series and it was originally published in 2011. There are now about 13 books in the series. It's always great when the publisher goes back and reissues older books in a series because they can become hard to find. Charley Davidson is the Grim Reaper, Charlie is searching for a missing friend and Reyes, the Son of Satan, literally and figuratively is haunting Charlie throughout this book. You probably want to read book 1 to get the background. With lots of demons trying to get Charlie to open a portal to heaven she is busy in this story. I received a copy of this ARC in exchange for a fair and honest review.

Second Grave on the left by Darynda Jones.
Take it from Charley Davidson, part-time P.I. and full-time Grim Reaper. The deceased find her very sparkly. Demons find her irresistible. And one entity in particular wants to seduce her in every way possible…
When Charley and Cookie, her best friend slash receptionist, have to track down a missing woman, the case is not quite as open and shut as they anticipate. Meanwhile, Reyes Alexander Farrow (otherwise known as the Son of Satan. Yes. Literally.) has left his corporeal body because he's being tortured by demons who want to lure Charley closer. But Reyes can't let that happen. Because if the demons get to Charley, they'll have a portal to heaven. And if they have a portal to heaven…well, let's just say it wouldn't be pretty.
Can Charley handle hot nights with Reyes and even hotter days tracking down a missing woman? Can she keep those she loves out of harm's way? And is there enough coffee and chocolate in the world to fuel her as she does?
This was a very enjoyable read with some great characters. Loved how Charley and Cookie were with each other. Brilliant. Looking forward to the next book. 4*.

This series is always in high demand at my library. The characters Daryna Jones uses are delightful and my readers love getting to know them more each book. Fabulous series!

I am loving Charley Davidson more and more! We deal with the son of Satan and so much more in this sequel! She finds out that her secret of being a Grim Reaper isn’t as much of a secret as she originally thought. So good! Can’t wait to continue this series. Thanks to NetGalley for allowing me to review this whole series!

Second Grave on the Left is the second book in the Charley Davidson series by Darynda Jones. I have read the first and ninth book in this series, and have finally gotten around to downloading the entire series and filling in the gaps, and then continue on. I do recommend reading the series in order (although I clearly did not follow my own advice since I read the ninth book first).

Take it from Charley Davidson, part-time P.I. and full-time Grim Reaper. The deceased find her very sparkly. Demons find her irresistible. And one entity in particular wants to seduce her in every way possible. When Charley and Cookie, her best friend slash receptionist, have to track down a missing woman, the case is not quite as open and shut as they anticipate. Second Grave on the Left is a wild ride with plenty of humor, danger, and twists that had me wondering what would happen next. I really like Charley's character. She underestimates herself, but uses humor and bravo to talk her way through just about everything. I thought the hunt for Reyes and her active case were very well balanced, and I liked the exchanges she has with friends and enemies alike. One never knew if the danger or immediate threat was related to the case, Reyes, or something else entirely. Charley has the kind of wit I always wanted, and the lack of concern for the opinion of others that can be a blessing and a curse. I thought this return to Charley's world was engaging and had me turning pages well past time I should have been doing something else, several times in fact. I love that while there is a satisfying conclusion, there is enough about Charley and her circle that has me eager for the next installment.

Second Grave on the Left is just as well written and engaging as the first, and I fully plan on binge reading this series in its entirety- although I will schedule the reviews so that they are not all in a row.

Second book of Charley’s adventures. And once again she has no time to sleep once she starts with the cases on hand. And she can never have just one case, for her if it rains, it pours. This time it’s a missing wife, Reyes’s missing body, uncle Bob’s tail and body in Cookie’s trunk. So just few problems, but it would not be Charley, if she could solve these problems, without getting attacked, and getting Reyes furious with her.

But it’s just the second book, so everything ends well, well bloody, but well, otherwise there would not be 13 books :).

Good read, if you need something humorous and fast-paced.

Review:

Since I read all of the Charley Davidson in one long run, yes, I had not read any of the series yet, I decided to write one review for the previously released books and one for the last book in the series.

First let me say, these are wickedly awesome books! Loved the story line, the writing and the characters. For me it was great to read them all at once and a little sad, since there will not be anymore. One of the things I loved about the books was Charley and her balls to the wall, help whoever, whenever she can attitude. Now that sure got her in lots of trouble, but it was so much fun to read. I loved the snarky witty dialogue and the quotes at the beginning of each chapter cracked me up. Now, it is not all fun and games in this story, there were points when I was crying and points I was on the edge of my seat with the action going on. I have to say on the whole this is one of the best and most well-rounded series I have read where I was not once bored or wanting to put down a book.

I am not sure what this Author has coming next, but she has me on the hook for whatever it is.

5 Big Stars for all of the books in the series

*I voluntarily read reader copies of each book provided by the publisher for review.*

Charley's best friend/ receptionist Cookie ask for help in finding her missing friend Mimi. While they try to tack her down and put together the pieces of her disappearance she is also on a case of her own trying to find Reyes' body before its too late. Just like the first book it has a great combination of humor, mystery, and paranormal romance. I felt like this one was a little slower than the first one but I feel like that is due to some of the background story building and of Charley learning more about herself and her capabilities. Another great read by Darynda Jones!

Part-time PI and full time Grim Reaper Charlie Davidson is called upon to investigate a new case. This second book in the series follows her and her partner Cookie as they attempt to solve a series of murders and save the life of Cookie's friend, Mimi. At the same time Charley must also find and save Reyes, son of the Devil, and the man she lusts over.

The backstory and character development both progress nicely in book two. Although I found the cases somewhat predictable. This is a great read for a lazy weekend or on the beach. Should appeal to fans of Paranormal Romantic Suspense.

I would like to thank Net Galley for the e-book to read and review.

3.5 Stars for the second installment of this fun series. It’s like Evanovich meets Charlaine Harris....with a twist or two thrown in. I’m going to have to keep reading this series....hooked now!

Charley was born a grim reaper. Which means she stands out like a beacon of light to the departed and they can pass through her to the other side. Other than that, she is just your average Private Investigator ;)
Charley has a very sarcastic sense of humour, but is also quite witty. So the humour is one of the main attractions for the story. Plus, her friends are kind of cool and the character development is coming along well.
The part I wasn't sure about in the first book (the romance), I'm still a little luke-warm on, but this book ended in such a cliff hanger I feel obliged to get to book 3 straight away :o

Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for providing me with a reader copy in exchange for an honest review.

Second Grave on the Left
By Darynda Jones

5 stars.

Darynda Jones new fiction series combining action, supernatural and romance. Featuring Charley Davidson: part-time private investigator and full-time Grim Reaper. Charley sees dead people, and it's her job to convince them to "go into the light." But when these very dead people have died under less than ideal circumstances (i.e., murder), sometimes they want Charley to bring the bad guys to justice.

The second book sees Charley and Cookie, having to track down a missing woman, while Reyes Alexander Farrow (otherwise known as the Son of Satan. Yes. Literally.) has left his corporeal body because he's being tortured by demons who want to lure Charley closer. But Reyes can't let that happen. Because if the demons get to Charley, they'll have a portal to heaven. And if they have a portal to heaven…well, let's just say it wouldn't be pretty

While not my usual genre, I found the books engaging and face paced to keep me picking up title after title.

ARC Kindly provided by NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

I have read these books over and over and over, and everytime I read them I fall more in love with it. The only thing that frustrates me is the waiting in between and for the ultimate fight, other than that and is like an addiction.

I am too sad to see this series over, but something tells me this will not be the end at all.

If you haven't read this series, start now, it is just amazing!

Thank you for the early copy.

I recommend this second novel to fans of urban fantasy. The main character is witty and strong and the plot was interesting.

I absolutely love this series! Charley finds out what Reyes is, and she is bent on saving him. As Cookie asks her to find her missing friend, a murderer is killing a group of adults who all went to high school together. The murders alone were made to look like an accident or suicide. As Charley and Cookie race together to find Mimi and stop the murderer, Charley also tries to find the body of Reyes.

Charley is snarky and independent. Cookie is a strong woman who is raising her daughter by herself. Charley's family is a mismatch of strong and weak people. I absolutely LOVE the series so far, and I find myself reading the next book without stopping. Thank you Ms. Jones and NetGalley for introducing me to the grim reaper world. I look forward to finding out what happens next.

Charley Davidson is back and still at her best in this second novel in a long series by Darynda Jones. Charley is a snarky, funny, sarcastic, coffee obsessed private detective who also happens to be the Grim Reaper. You will follow her as she solves mysteries for her clients, accomplishes her Reaper duties, and gets to know Reyes Alexander Farrow (the sexy, but serious, son of Satan).

This tremendously long supernatural mystery-suspense series is written with plenty of humor, and ends up being very believable. It reminds me very much of Janet Evanovich's Stephanie Plum novels. We are treated to the seedy underside of human experience in each one, rendered cohesive by a supportive cast of family and friends, all strung upon a thread of erotic romance.

They also have a numerical value in every title that give up very little else of the plot. As you can guess, this is volume 2, where the main character, who's been seeing dead people all her life, discovers that her astral traveling lover is under assault by demons, which could trigger the Apocalypse. What's more he's convinced that continuing to exist exposes her to more danger than being dead would, so she's got to stop him from destroying himself along with the demons. Meanwhile she has mysteries to solve for her PI clients, on top of helping the many souls she encounters to move on into the Light.

It's quite a juggling act for Charlie to handle, but it's how she rolls. I'm pretty certain every volume is going to be more of the same, nonstop chaos very reminiscent of real life for those of us cursed to live in 'interesting times'.

I will give you that this book is primarily fluff. There isn't a lot going on but there were a few reveals for the series as a whole.

What's interesting is that most people state the their favorite part of this series is Charley's humor and at times I find it to be my least favorite part. I like it when it's subtle but too many times it goes over the top.

But, regardless, it's fun, easy reading and sometimes that's all you need.

3.5/5. And, yes, I've already started the next book. I need more fluff in my life.

E-book/Urban Fantasy: This is book two of the Charley Davidson series and I want to thank NetGalley for letting me read this in lieu of an honest review. I was going to give it two stars but things got interesting in the last third of the book. It starts out a few weeks after the last book.

The series is first person so you get to hear all of Charley quippy thoughts. There were about three mysteries going on in this book that did keep my attention. Charley does experience betrayal in this one and I do want to know how that is going to pan out in the next book. If your into fantasy, this is a good series to read.

I know it is never a good idea to pick up a book in a series and not start with book 1. Well I did and the author is able to get readers up to date without taking up half the book to do it.
The story is full of one liners that at times takes away from the story but will have readers laughing out loud. The characters are very light for the topic and Charley Davidson will have readers following her not matter where she goes or what she does because the humor follow.

I can't wait to see what happens next in the series
