You will be hearing about this book!
It has a unique plot line that doesn’t give up its secrets easily. It has characters that slowly unfold, frustrate (but just enough to be intriguing), and surprise.
Many books claim to be page turners; this book ups the ante on that claim. You won’t be able to put it down!
More of 3 stars but rounding up because I did enjoy reading this.
I really liked the character development and felt the back stories were well written and added to the overall experience. Mostly I just didn't really enjoy the twist, I felt there were more exciting ways it could have gone.
Kept me on the edge of my seat. Laura who always seemed to attract trouble and bad guys has gone missing. Her sister is going to save her but has Laura once again gotten in trouble and where could she have disappeared to?
This is a true thriller! I stayed up late to finish reading it because I could not put it down! I loved it! This is full of delicious twists and turns that almost took my breath away.
I thought the characters and their relationships were especially interesting and a large part of what made this book so appealing. This was truly riveting throughout, and the final reveals and suspense at the end were thrilling.
You don't want to miss this one! I highly recommend it!
So many twists and turns!! Just when you think you have it figured out, there is another twist! Fast paced thrilling read! I couldn't wait to finish this book! I had to know who the Villian really was!
The Night Before is a quick thriller about two sisters – one trying to figure out what happened the night before to her sister. The story is told in two perspectives (the two sisters) and timeseries (the night before and the morning/day after). The twist was OK for me – not too predictable, but also not too shocking. I was pulled in from the beginning and really enjoyed the mystery (both past and present).
Thanks to NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for the advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.
I had trouble getting into this book and stopped at the halfway point. I'm disappointed because I loved All Is Not Forgotten and Emma In the Night. I kept hoping I would get into the book but I just never did and moved on so something else.
This is my third book by Wendy Walker and she always delivers a great book filled with suspense, twists and turns and intrigue. Laura is the younger sister of Rose who is happily married to Joe, her childhood sweetheart and they have one son. Laura suffers from tragic experiences in her early life and blaming herself for the death of a person and in her adult life feeling she is always searching for men that are not available. Living in the city, she experiences a devastating lost of a man who she really felt loved her. She goes home to be with her sister, husband and their son and another friend Gabe who she grew up with and his now married. She goes on a dating site and meets a man online and meets him in town to meet him using her sister’s car. This is when all the twists and turns begin and not till the reveal did I see this coming.. If you love psychological thrillers, then I highly recommend this book. Thank you net galley for this ARC which I received for an honest review
This book keeps you engaged and guessing throughout and I really enjoyed the double perspectives. However, I think many of Wendy Walker's endings are very far out there and follow a similar theme.
I was intrigued by the little amount of information the synopsis provided, and I am happy that I gave this book a shot. Throughout most of the book, it was difficult to predict what was happening at each step. I naturally enjoy guessing - and getting right - plot twists in these types of stories, but I was unable to with this. If you like psychological thrillers, but are becoming bored with the expected twists, you will really enjoy this book.
Many things are not what they seem in The Night Before-including the slyly deceptive title. Although the story takes place over a few days (and what happens the night before is central to the plot)-events from months, years, even decades prior reviberate from beginning to end. As in Ms. Walker's earlier novel, Emma in the Night, The Night Before centers on two sisters-Rose and Laura. Rose is happily married to Joe and has a young son; Laura has bounced from one disastrous relationship to another since their teens. When the man Laura believes is the love of her life breaks up with her via text she rushes back to her hometown to live in her sister's attic while her broken heart heals. But Laura isn't one to lay low-soon she meets a man through an online dating site. When Lauren fails to return from their first date the action picks up and the story bounces from the night before (thus the title) and the day after Laura's disappearance. Nothing adds up in The Night Before (Laura's date has a creepily inappropriate interest in her past, and the nature of Laura's relationship with her therapist appears to cross professional lines)-but it's this "2 + 2=5" suspense that keeps that story moving at a furious pace. You'll travel down several roads before finding the one that ties up all the loose ends-and the journey is just as exciting as the destination. This is a quick read-but don't breeze through it or you might overlook the clever clues sprinkled throughout that make The Night Before a satisfying mystery.
4.5 ⭐ Thank you Netgalley for an advanced copy. The problem with advanced copies is once you're done, you have to wait for it to be released so you have others to talk to about the book. I cannot wait for my friends to read this one!! This was my 1st by Wendy Walker, but now I want to read more. In my mind, i accused every character. I thought i had it all figured out, but a good psychological thriller shocks you at the end, and this one did not disappoint!!
Wow! The book had me turning the pages as fast as I could. Everything I thought I knew, I didn’t !
Laura, Rosie , Gabe and Joe have been friends since childhood. All having lived through a traumatic and emotional night. Each with their own suspicions and conclusions about what happened.
This book alternates between Rosie and Laura’s point of view and goes back and forth in time and I loved that !
A great read with twists and turns you will never see coming.
This is my first book by this author but definitely not my last !
I started reading The Night Before by Wendy Walker and could not stop until I finished the book! The book starts slowly when Laura dresses to go out on a date with a man she met through an online dating service. She recently moved back home to live with her married sister, her husband and child.. Laura carries a lot of guilt and anger from her earlier experiences with her relationship with parents and peers. She even feels responsible for the death of a peer that occured when she was a young teenager. She borrows her sister's car when she leaves to meet her date.
Laura is still not home in the morning and her cell phone is not working.. Her sister Rosie, brother-in-law Joe and their close friend gabe begin a search for her. The book moves between her experiences with her date and her family fears that something has happened to her. The plot moves quickly as there are many surprises and throughout the book. The ending is another surprise!
The Night Before was a gripping psychological thriller that I couldn't put down! Laura, who is recovering from a breakup, moves in with her sister Rosie and her young family. After a bit, Rosie helps Laura write her online dating profile, and Laura goes on a blind date - and disappears. The story is told from alternating view points, where you get a snippet told from Laura's point of view of her date, followed by Rosie's point of view during her desperate search for her sister. The alternating points of view and back and forth of the timeline drew me in and I read it all in one sitting. Clues were given throughout the story in such a way that I felt compelled to keep reading; each chapter divulged a bit more information, but also created more questions that propel the reader forward. I didn't see the ending coming, and I was looking! Thank you for the opportunity to read this book in advance through NetGalley!
I have not read anything by this author before but now she is on my "find-everything-she-ever-wrote-and-read-it" list! To say this is a thriller is an understatement. I could not figure out from one chapter to the next where this was going to end....something sadly lacking in many stories today. This was so tightly plotted that while the story was told from three different perspectives and different points in time, I never lost the thread. It's hard to say much about this book without giving too much away so I will just say this is about a girl who disappears. But this is not your typical disappearance. And not your typical girl. Read this!
Thank you NetGalley for providing me with an advanced copy to read for review.
This book intrigued me. Or rather, the lack of information in the blurb intrigued me. This book was a great psychological thriller with lots of twists and turns. The story is told from past to present as well as different characters points of view, which was very effective in this book.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for this advance copy for my honest review.
This is one of the best thrillers I've read so far this year! It had everything that makes a good thriller; plenty of suspense, lots of twists and an ending you won't see coming! Be sure to pick this one up when it comes out May 29!
I received this book from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. What a great thriller. So much suspense and twists. Laura seems to find trouble everywhere she goes. Especially with men. The question is it really all her fault? The author did a wonderful job unfolding the story in a haunting way. I went back and forth on who to believe. Great read!
I absolutely loved Emma in the Night by Wendy Walker, so I was excited to receive an ARC of another intriguing book by the author!
Laura has returned home to surround herself with family, namely her sister Rosie, and friends after a bad breakup. She is convinced to try to start dating again to try and move forward. She meets a guy for a date that she met online - and doesn't return home the next morning. Her sister Rosie is desperate to find her and uncover what happened to her The Night Before.
This was a great, fast-paced and twisty thriller! It switches from past to present and allows the reader to see the different characters POV. I loved every minute of it!
Thank you to Wendy Wallker, St. Martin's Press and NetGalley for the ARC of this fantastic book!
