Sad to see this series end but I know that I can always do a re read of It to re vist my favorite characters any time I want too. Overall ever since I picked up the first book I've enjoyed all of them as well as the adventures they took me on.
I have to be honest…I put off reading this because I knew it was the last book in a series I’ve loved since First Grave in the Right. Charley is back after being banished to the darkness for 100 years and her reunion with Reyes is 🔥! I imagine tying up a 13-book series is difficult but Darynda Jones manages to do that and more. Thank you for Charley and her amazing family (how could they be anything else!) and to Lorelei King for her wonderful narration! I’ll miss you all! Thanks to NetGalley for this ARC
Previously I said Eighth Grave After Dark was my least favorite of the series. I take it back. This book, the final book is my least favorite. It was still fun, I guess - but there was a lot of stuff that came completely out of left field or made absolutely no sense - looking at you Uncle Bob. WTH? Lots of characters are killed off willy nilly and the thing that happens with Charley and Reyes in the end is weird - doesn't make any sense and isn't necessary. I can only hope there will be some spin offs- maybe of Osh and Beep or Amber and Quentin.
This was bittersweet reading. This one was one of my favorite series and reading the last book in the series brought back all the good memories. Highly recommend this book and series!!
Sigh. The end. How can it be? Thirteen books of making these characters a part of my life. I was afraid that the book might fizzle or land with a thud at the end but it was a fitting tribute to all. :)
P.S. I know, I know...I gave it only 4 stars. I loved it like it should be 5 but I really need to have people aware that this series has sex scenes. We're not talking love-making scenes. We are talking dirty sex scenes. I abhor that in a story but I skipped over them (bitter that they had to tarnish the story) because I loved the series and the characters anyway.
Well. This is the end. I have all sorts of emotions-I'm happy, sad, relieved, distraught, etc etc.
An excellent ending to the series and I cannot wait for whatever Darynda Jones brings us next!
I randomly picked up Summoned to Thirteenth Grave because of it’s cover. I thought it was fairly cool and with a quick skim through the blurb I just went for it. And now I am totally kicking myself for not paying more attention to the statement ‘back in the final installment’. *Thunks head on desk. Dang it! I just read the LAST book in the series, one that I haven’t read any of the previous books. I mean, it’s not like I haven’t jumped into a series after it’s started before. But to read the last book to what looks to be a great series…? Ugh.
Despite being clueless about all the characters and the story plot, I got to say I loved it. Charley is a strong protagonist and exactly the type I thoroughly enjoy. There are quite a few characters to absorb and it looks like the author is busy tidying up all their stories. The book is infused with humor, excitement and what is probably jaw dropping moments for followers of the series. That said, I am so lost, and it is completely my fault. I know I will need to start it from the beginning to get the full impact of this finally book because there’s a feel to it that will be a spin-off with Beep.
So there you have it folks. Don’t do what I did and read this series from the beginning. Summoned to Thirteenth Grave was a fun exciting adventure but it definitely would have been so much better had I know what was going on. I do have to say Darynda Jones is an amazing author, one that I will be adding to my one-click list, so this little oopsie of mine was not a complete loss.
Stars: 4
I received this book from Netgalley. I was not compensated for the book other than the entertainment it provided. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
The final book in this series and I loved it! I'm sad to see this series come to an end. I have enjoyed every book in this series. This book tied everything together nicely, and gave a satisfying ending to the story' overall . I will miss Charlie and the whole gang. I would highly recommend this book.
This is the final book in the Charley Davidson series by Darynda Jones. I had been anticipating this novel for months and it didn't disappoint. It was a wonderful final chapter for the characters that had been developed over several novels.
I absolutely adored this series!! It was so fun, suspenseful and capturing. Darynda Jones did a great job with all the characters. They were all characters that I grew to love and read about. Darynda did a great job ending the series also. I was completely satisfied and yet very sad to see it end.
I am not ready to let this series go! As is custom with this series, there are plenty of twists and turns throughout the story, and things are even more interesting since Charley's been exiled. Things are changing in Albuquerque, given what Reyes accidentally did, and that is wreaking eleventy two kinds of havoc. While I'm sad there's only one book left, I can't wait to see how things are gonna wrap up for one of my all time favorite couples!
The second to last Charley Davidson book. I wanted this story but I didn't want the series to end at all. Charley especially has been one of my favorite heroines and I love her and Reyes!
OMG where to even begin on a review of this bittersweet journey with Charley, Reyes, Cookie, et al? I just did a full series re-read and I still cannot get over the ending. When do we get Beep's story?! I cannot believe the revelations, the twists and turns Darynda pulls out in Thirteenth. An amazing journey I'm glad I was able to be a part of since First Grave on the Right.

This story picks up where the last book, The Trouble with Twelfth Grave left off. Charley got exiled from Earth for bringing Amber back to life after her soul had left her body. Charley was sent to a hell dimension where she lives in complete darkness with only wraiths and her thoughts to keep her company. For over 100 years she lives in the darkness until she’s pulled out and dumped in the Sahara desert where an angry and still sexy Reyes stalks her! Turns out in Earth time she’d only been gone 10 days, but it felt like an eternity to Charley and Reyes both!
“He lifted one shoulder in a half-hearted shrug. “That was different. That was a true hell dimension.”
I gaped at him. For, like, a really long time. “I’m sorry,” I said, not the least bit sorry. “Are you suggesting that my hell dimension was less hellish than yours?”
Albuquerque is quickly being swallowed by the hell dimension that Reyes accidentally opened. By his figures they have three days to stop it before everything is destroyed. While in exile, the wraiths told Charley to look into her mother’s death to find out how to destroy the hell dimension. She’s on a race against the clock to discover what everybody has hidden from her all this time. If she can’t stop it everyone she loves will perish. Then, who will be left to fight alongside her daughter when the time comes?
I have loved this series from the very beginning. Charley’s humor and wit. Reyes’s scorching sexiness. What’s not to love? Knowing this was the final book in the series has been hard for me. I struggled to sit down and start reading this novel because I just wasn’t ready for the series to be over and I’m still not! I’m also not ready to lose another book boyfriend!
“I brightened when Reyes stepped into the small room, one hand behind his back. I’d dried my hair and pulled it into a ponytail for the time being, but I felt wonderful. Clean. Warm. Safe.
“It’s time,” he said as I slipped into a T-shirt and the jeans he’d provided.
“Time?”
He brought his hand around, and it was like the clouds parted and heaven shone down on us. Blessing us. Nurturing our deepest, most primal desires.
“One triple shot mocha latte with extra whipped cream.”
I ran to him and threw my arms around his neck, but only for a second. There was a mocha latte out there calling my name.”
Everybody is shacked up at a warehouse that Reyes bought while the shade demons take over Albuquerque since their apartment is ground zero for the hell dimension they unleashed. They pull their resources to try and figure out how to stop it and to pull as many of their friends to safety as they can. A message Charley’s mom gave Gemma to give to her spurs her onward as she tries to figure out how it applies to their current situation.
You would think with the zombie apocalypse upon them, that it might dull the intimacy between Reyes and Charley. You couldn’t be further from the truth. Who knows how long they have left together, they had better make it count while they still can!
You can tell the series is starting to wrap up as Charley starts to lose people that are close to her. People that I expected would always be there. Of course with this series, I’m sure they can visit in other ways.
I was hoping for an epic conclusion to this great series, but I was a bit disappointed with how it ended. I expected some sweet sappy scene between Charley and Reyes to be the big finale. Instead, it didn’t feel like an ending at all. However, I feel that the way this book ended pretty much guarantees a spin-off series about Beep and Osh. I’m sure we’ll eventually get to see Charley and Reyes again, but it will probably be some time down the road. Until we meet again sexy son of Satan … I guess I’ll have to settle for a sexy slave demon in the meantime. Maybe some sexy bikers too? And Garrett?

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for this review copy. A brilliant end to an incredible series.
As per usual intense sex scenes "ruined" the book for me. this is why i tend to shy away from adult books or stick to cozy mysteries. i love the main character, love the story, but dear god why do you need to go into such detail when they have sex?! ugh.
What can I say?
I guess it was going to end something like that but.....eh.
The series as a whole was quite a roller coaster ride. There was quite a dip in the middle where I was just about ready to give up completely thenCharley got amnesia!
And I was back in the saddle again!
If you have read any of my reviews you know I could always do with less Reyes.
More Osh. More Swoops.
We even get a little more of the MC boys
You can't get into much detail on this final book of the series.
Either you wont understand because you have not read the rest of the series or I don't want to spoil what is coming up.
This one felt very hodge podge and thrown together. It was a lot of gogogo! thanks to Chrley's final hair brained plans.
But there was also time for a few touching scenes for our characters.
It was a very hard place to leave most of my favorites but I don't think it could have gone any other way.
So, over all, I will end the series with 4 stars.
You had me hooked Darynda.
Now on to your new series!

Summoned to Thirteenth Grave is the thirteenth and final? book of the Charley Davidson series. There is violence and adult themes. While this is supposedly the final book in the series, it still leaves quite a few unanswered questions. If this is it, I hope the author writes another series that focuses on Beep and what happens to her.
This is one of the more difficult series to say goodbye to. I have loved each and every book, each twist and turn, the characters, the snark, and the sizzle. Trust Darynda Jones to end it with a bit of a "wait, what?!" She had to give us one little knife twist to see us through until Beep's series. I now have a million more questions in my head than I thought I would but I still (grudgingly) found myself loving every word of every page. Well played, Ms. Jones, well played. Thank you for a wild ride over the years and a brief break before we start the next one.
I want to thank St. Martin's Press, Darynda Jones, and NetGalley for allowing me the chance to read this book and share my honest thoughts and opinions with others.
I'm going to write this review as a "series" review because, quite frankly, I binge read the whole series THIRTEEN books in one week. I literally couldn't put them down. When I read the last page of the last book, I wanted to cry.
Book one hooks you from the start. The world that Darynda built within this series is phenomenally creative. It's full of magic and mystery. The hero is the perfect anti-hero turned true hero that I've read in a long, long time. My heart broke for the trials and tribulations the hero and heroine went through to get to the end of the series. Calling it an emotional rollercoaster doesn't even cover the vast span of emotions that the author drags the reader through.
The only complaint I have is that the series ended.... there was a "the end" and I didn't want to be done yet. A complete must read for all PNR lovers!
