I dare you not to cry when Charley Davidson cries. In her last installment the brilliant Darynda Jones gave us everything we have come to expect in a Charley Davidson story, and more. She has turned the world up a few more notches with Reyes trying to keep up. All of our favorite characters show up to fulfill their missions with extreme acts of bravery while Charley fills in as the wise cracking, heart warming General.
Since she is such a gifted artist, Darynda Jones ties up so many of the mysteries while leaving us with more. I can't wait to see where she will lead us next!

Summoned to Thirteenth Grave
By Darynda Jones

3 stars.

This is the final episode of Darynda Jones fiction series combining action, supernatural and romance. Featuring Charley Davidson: part-time private investigator and full-time Grim Reaper. Charley sees dead people, and it's her job to convince them to "go into the light." But when these very dead people have died under less than ideal circumstances (i.e., murder), sometimes they want Charley to bring the bad guys to justice.

Charley Davidson, Grim Reaper extraordinaire, is pissed. She’s been kicked off the earthly plane for eternity—which is exactly the amount of time it takes to make a person stark raving mad. But someone’s looking out for her, and she’s allowed to return after a mere hundred years in exile. Is it too much to hope for that not much has changed? Apparently it is. Bummer.
She’s missed her daughter. She’s missed Reyes. She’s missed Cookie and Garrett and Uncle Bob. Now that she’s back on earth, it’s time to put to rest burning questions that need answers. What happened to her mother? How did she really die? Who killed her? And are cupcakes or coffee the best medicine for a broken heart? It all comes to a head in an epic showdown between good and evil in this final smart and hilarious novel.

While not my usual genre, I found the books engaging and face paced to keep me picking up title after title. The series has become somewhat repetitive and tired.

Thank you to Netgalley for providing a review copy in return for an honest review. All opinions expressed in this review are entirely my own.

Can I just say OMG! Read this over a couple of days because life kept interfering. It was hard to put it down. So many twists and turns and yet it brings everything to a close. Darynda Jones out did herself. Come on new series!

I loved this end to the series, even if I wish the series wasn't ending! I adore Charley and the gang. There was a real twist with Uncle Bob and with how Charley's mother really died. I hope we do see Charley and the gang again someday!

I finished this book over two week ago, then I read it again.
I've started writing a review, backspaced, started again, backspaced again, and finally need to put my thoughts down about this book and the series. Unlike some others that continue on and on (and on), this one reveals a bit more about the characters with each installment. From the First Grave, you don't really know who everyone is, and what special talents/powers/roles they possess. This one adds more to this knowledge and ties up a long storyline with Charley Davidson and Reyes Farrow.

First, Darynda told us this was the last one in the series. The end...or is it? This quote from one of the later chapters sums it up: "These last couple of days have been some of the strangest in a life that defined strange, but this? This was beyond comprehension."

I can tell you it's the end for at least one character, a WHAT THE WHAT surprise for another, and an ending that is fitting for Charley and Reyes.

All the side-kicks are back in this one for the finale: Cookie, Ubie, Amber, Quentin. Gemma. Garrett, Peri and Osh. The Bandit Bikers - Donovan, Eric, and Michael. Blue, Rocket, Strawberry Shortcake.
Even Reyes' friend Amador, the Loehrs and Beep get mentions.

While the story of Charley and Reyes may be over, I can't believe this is the end of this realm. Beep still has a war to fight, and the ending leaves you with an unanswered question. Hoping that the next chapter with Beep's army comes soon.

Summoned to Thirteenth Grave by Darynda Jones is the final book in the Charley Davidson series featuring a coffee loving, Grim Reaping god who collects friends, named her tits and loves a Demon, who happens to be the son of Lucifer. These are my people. Osh, Cookie, Garret, Uncle Bob, the kids and so many more from the living to the non-living. I have loved every minute of this series, even the killer last paragraphs that left me hanging to the next release. Full review to post at Caffeinated Reviewer on Jan 15th.

4.5 stars

There are not a lot of writers out there that can have the same character's story span thirteen books and keep you invested and excited through each one.  This is the first time I've read a series this long and never grown tired of the storyline.  Charlie is an AMAZING character surrounded by a plethora of secondary characters that enhance the storyline a thousand fold.  This is a must read series for any fans of the paranormal genre.

I don't want to give anything away because this book FINALLY gives us the answers we've been waiting for.  It was done well and honestly I had no idea how things were going to happen until they did.  This book was full of surprises, some exciting, and some heartbreaking.  All of them contributed into making the final book in this series as amazing as I'd hoped it would be.

Now that Charlie and Reyes's story has been told and with the little parting shot Darynda left at the end of this book, I CAN NOT WAIT, until we get Beep's story!

This is the thirteenth and final book in the Charley Davidson series. This was an amazing conclusion to this series. This whole series was so much fun to read!

This is the first Charley Davidson book that I have NOT read on audiobook. I was please to found I enjoyed it just as much in print as I enjoyed the audiobooks. Still, shout out to the audiobooks...they are really well done.

Charley has returned from the plane she was banished to as punishment and now must deal with the aftermath of her and Reyes’s actions. The hell dimension they opened is expanding and leaving demonic chaos in its wake. Apparently the key to solving the mystery of the hell dimension lies in the secrets of Charley’s mother’s death. Woven into all of this are other small mysteries involving a serial killer and ghostly children.

This was an incredibly fun read that I had trouble putting down. Jones always does an amazing job blending multiple storylines together in a way that it unpredictable and entertaining.

I loved how things wrapped up here. You can tell that things are obviously being set up for a follow-up series. I hope we see a follow-up series featuring Osh and Beep.

Overall this was an amazing conclusion to this highly creative and entertaining series. I would highly recommend to those who enjoy light urban fantasy with a bit of romance. I am eager to see what Jones next project will be!

Thank you for the early copy.

I recommend this final novel to fans of urban fantasy. The plots/mysteries are always interesting to read and I like the main character. A great end to a good series!

Some fantastic authors are bringing their series to a .......pause, this year. "End" is too hard a word. But what a perfect pause for the Charley Davidson novels by Darynda Jones. Utterly fabulous, with an ending that no, you won't see this coming.
How good is it? The Bestest! If you've been following Charley and crew, then you know that she is a PI who is the grim reaper who is a best friend who is a god who is addicted to coffee who is in love who has a sass mouth who has a way with naming things who is, well, who is herself addictive. The "pause" that we are given with Summoned to the 13th Grave is damn near flawless. It feeds all our addictions, it touches all our favorite people, and it gives us a new burning question.
Darynda Jones writes with insight and energy and builds a rich, colorful world. Smart, witty sass flows off her fingers as well as the depths of pain that people can know. Did I mention the hot sex?
Fans of Charley and Darynda will already have their eyes on 13 , so this review is really for the Newbie, someone that is about to enter the realm of terrific that is Charley Davidson. My advice is to buy this book, but don't open it. Buy the first in the series and inhale. Do yourself a favor and immerse your brain from the beginning.
Thank you, Darynda Jones. Thank you, Charley Davidson. Until we hit PLAY once more.......

Summoned to the Thirteenth Grave by Darynda Jones. 5 stars!!!

I don't know if I should cheer or cry. I want to do both simultaneously. On one hand this is the end of the Charley Davidson series, there won't be any more stories in the near future. No more snark, no more Charley, no more Reyes, no more coffee jokes. But this series ended on a wonderful note with plenty of Happily Ever Hereafters. The signature Charley Davidson humor was steady throughout the book. The ending was satisfying and I will be looking forward to the stories about Beep and Osh. But in the meantime Ms Jones will be starting another series and I look forward to another unusual hero to save the day..

Thank you St. Martins and Netgalley for the ARC of this book. It was greatly appreciated.

I want to thank Netgalley and Darynda Jones for giving me the chance to read this book for an honest review....

OMG! If I could find a way to give this more than 5 stars I SO would! I am sad to see Charley go but the way Ms Jones did it was brilliant. I laughed...I cried...and at one point I even went WTF! because I so didn't see some stuff coming...I think she tied everything up in a wonderful bow though and I can't wait to see what else she has in store for us.

I've really enjoyed the series and am sad to see it go, it is a little bittersweet for me as a reader to see such a wonderful series end...let's hope there is another great series soon!

Omg! The Amazing-ness! First off the book's description is explained almost immediately just FYI for all those confused by it. Charley's the same hilarious reaper/god. And Reyes, aww, Reyes, need I say more? The ending is in a way a cliffhanger for me, but honestly it a happy ending for now. Definitely a reread for me! I already have the audible audiobook on preorder. I was lucky to be given the opportunity to receive an ARC for this beauty of a book. Thank you Netgalley!

I received an early Christmas gift from NetGalley, an ARC of Summoned to Thirteenth Grave: A Novel (Charley Davidson Series) by Darynda Jones. I’ll try to make this as non-spoiler-ey as possible, but if you’ve read the first chapter on Darynda’s website (or just the shocking ending of 12th Grave) you’re probably still in full panic mode. Stop panicking. Things in Charley’s world usually have an interesting way of working out. Especially in the darkest of times. And these are pretty dark.

In Summoned to Thirteenth Grave Charley finally gets back to the earthly plane. It’s been one hundred seven years, two months, fourteen days, twelve hours, and thirty-three minutes since she was banished for bringing Amber back from the dead. She’s pissed with a dash of devastated because Reyes, Beep, Uncle Bob, Cookie, Amber and all her other friends and family are long gone. Or are they?

Charley Davidson is my spirit animal. One of my coworkers recommended this series to me. She said, “You’ll love Charley. You’ll really appreciate her smartassery. Plus there’s Reyes. He’s hot as hell.” (Hahaha, now I get it.) She was right, the smartassery is the best part. I also love Reyes and Charley’s relationship. They clearly love each other so much they’re willing to do anything to be together. Swoon…

This book surprised me three times. Yeah, you read that right, three times. It’s really difficult for a book to surprise me, but I love it when it happens. This book was amazing, but the ending was bittersweet. I’m always sad when a series comes to an end, however, this sets up a spin-off series. I’m strangely cool with that and really looking forward to seeing what else Darynda Jones has up her sleeve. Summoned to Thirteenth Grave is available January 15, 2019.

Book #13…..when you’re writing a series about the Grim Reaper, somehow that seems an appropriate number to end on. Yep, you heard me. From now on you’ll have to find another reason to visit Albuquerque because Charley Davidson & Co. are signing off. But first…a few loose ends.

As the book opens, Charley pops up back on Earth after being banished to darkness for over 100 years. Or as she describes it “exiled in hell with no light, no hair products & no coffee”. Reyes finds her in no time & after an…er…”warm” welcome, brings her up to speed.

It’s kind of a good news/bad news situation. The good: he’s fine, Beep’s fine, all the gang are fine. The bad: it seems he accidentally opened up a hell dimension & demons are pouring through. LOTS of demons. While they’re slurping up human souls, a shade has descended on the city & it’s spreading. There’s no time to waste & Charley & Reyes are soon hunkered down with their crew as they brainstorm ways to banish the nasty creatures snacking on the good citizens of Albuquerque.

As usual there are numerous story lines & Charley must keep herself highly caffeinated if she’s going to multi-task her way through the whole mess. Everything is aligned for a final showdown between the forces of good & evil. And while it’s maybe not as epic as I was hoping, it does provide answers to long running questions. Trust me, there are some jaw droppers here ( looking at YOU, Uncle Bob )

Story lines & character arcs are tidied up as you’d expect in a final instalment. My only quibble would be this is more saccharine than we’re accustomed to given Charley’s tendency to shoot from the lip. But when you’re wrapping up a series, it has to be a challenge to say good-bye without getting a little misty. The author could have kept it going (I imagine her publishers wished she had). But I applaud her for ending things while the story lines were still strong & original. Of course I’ll miss the characters but for me, one of the things I always looked forward to were the headers of each chapter. So on that note, I will leave you with this…..

Trust me. You can dance.

Ciao, Charley. Thanks for the laughs.

Thank you so much to netgallery for giving me the opportunity to read an e-arc of Summoned to the Thirteenth Grave!

Overall, this series was fun for me. If you’re a fan of the show Supernatural, you may like this series. They’re all not long books too so it makes for a quick series to get through. I unfortunately still am not 100% in love with Reyes and this final book just didn’t wrap things up the way I was hoping. There’s without a doubt going to be more books focusing on baby Beep.

My favorite thing about the series is Charley because she is always so sarcastic and she just cracks me up. I can relate to her coffee addiction and love the headings to each chapter with funny quotes.

Will I read more books by this author? Sure! Just probably won’t buy them. I’d read them from my library in the future. Again, would recommend for fans of Supernatural.

This story made me laugh, made me cry and sometimes shake my head. I feel like I'm saying goodbye to my crazy, supernatural friends. Reyes and Charley are the right balance of dark and light and it turns out the answer to what they are seeking to protect their child. I see a new series featuring Beep and Osh with guest appearances from other characters. Such a great series with interesting characters, snappy dialogue, god's, demons and hero's. I received a complimentary copy and I am giving a voluntary review.

OMG Darynda Jones knocked it out of the Galaxy with Summoned to the Thirteenth Grave. The 13th and last book of her Charley Davidson saga. I have loved all of them, that sometimes I ended up reading them so fast, I was finished before I fully understood what had happened. But not this one, this one needed to be savored. It was well worth it.

Ms. Jones answered all the questions brought up in the previous 12 books. She succulently tied storylines together bringing the reader to a place only Charley could go beforehand.

I have loved this series so much and have waited patiently for each book to be published. Luckily, NetGalley gave me the opportunity to read it prepublication and I kindly thank them for this gift.

The books starts where the last one ended. Charley and all of her friends (ours too! As Ms. Jones has filled out all the characters in her books, that I personally feel like I know them all.) must help keep Beep alive and close the door Charley and Reyes accidentally opened, letting demons onto Earth. They quickly moved into the souls of people who couldn’t fight them. The shade they cast grew bigger causing an epidemic in Albuquerque.

So, how does Charley and Reyes go about fixing this problem? The same as usual! With lots of smart comebacks, gallons of coffee and a lot of Love.

But is it the end? Where is Osh?

The end is finally here for this series and what a way for Ms. Jones to go about...Book #13! I have had my highs and lows with this series, but overall it has been such an enjoyable ride. Summoned to Thirteenth Grave brings us all that fabulous Charley snark and snide, the laugh out loud moments together with the sarcastic and totally inappropriateness that we love and crave.

Per my usual I don’t do spoilers, so if you want to know what happens then you seriously gotta pick this bad boy up for yourself and read it. What I will tell you is this: Ms. Jones did a wonderful job with the characters, storyline, and details, all the while keeping things flowing quite splendidly; I was hooked from the get-go. If you are looking for a paranormal series that features good v. evil, angels, demons, and more, has twists and turns, suspense a plenty with the perfect touch of heat and sexiness, then you found what you are looking for...look no further.

Please note that an ARC was generously provided in exchange for an honest review of which this is both honest and completely voluntary.
