Loved reading this! I wasn't sure what to expect, but this book is so much more than I first thought! So good!

This year I "discovered" A.W. Tozer and went on a multiple book long reading spree of some of his more famous works, favorites being Attributes of God, The Counselor, Delighting in God, and Of God and Men.

A.W. Tozer was a pastor, writer, and magazine editor, who had a strong passion for Spiritual truths. This volume is a collection of quotes from his various works, books, essays, and articles, arranged alphabetically and topically.

This book is a hardcover of about 360 pages, a good end table book, as it isn't exactly one that is easily read straight through but is better digested a bite at a time. It would make a great gift.

I will admit it was harder to read in nuggets as I missed the context and the reading flow of a book. But it is still a worthwhile read. Tozer is never a bad idea in my book!

I have always wanted to read a book by Tozer but I haven’t before now. This book compiles wisdom and insight from Tozer on many topics and organizes it in an easily accessible manner. The quotes range from one sentence to a paragraph in length and cover everything from angels, the Bible, entertainment, joy, mercy, miracles, repentance, and so much more.
John Piper says, “Books don’t change people—paragraphs do, sometimes sentences.” That is the beauty of this book. There are powerful quotes to think and meditate on and I was really encouraged and challenged. I feel I have a better sense of A. W. Tozer. I especially liked the quotes about the Bible as they made me appreciate the Word more and fueled my desire for it.
“It is doubtful whether any sin is ever committed until it first incubates in the thoughts long enough to stir the feelings and predispose the will toward it favorably…” (location 184).
“Probably there is no greater offense in all of Christendom than speed-reading the Bible. The Bible must be read slowly and meditatively, allowing the Spirit of God to open up our understanding” (location 283).
This last quote I’ll share reminded me of a doctrine professor I had who insisted we back up our statements with a chapter and verse. “I am a Bible Christian, and if an archangel with a wingspread as broad as a constellation were to appear, shining like the sun, and offer me some new truth, I would insist on a reference. If he could not give it and could not show me where it is found in the Bible, I would bow him out and say, ‘I’m awfully sorry; you don’t bring any references with you.’ Then I would dismiss him” (location 551).
Thank you to Bethany House and Netgalley for providing me with a free e-copy of this book. I was not required to leave a positive review. All opinions are my own.

Note for Kindle users: The table of contents doesn’t link to each section of the book. As I went through the book, I highlighted each topic in blue. I made any notes or highlights to quotes in other colors. If I want to find a quote on “Love,” I can click on my notes tab and scroll through the blue notes and quickly find “Love” as the topics are alphabetical and then jump to that section.

The Quotable Tozer
By: A.W. Tozer
This is a collection of A.W. Tozer quotes, organized topically. I enjoyed having the quotes organized topically for easy use however I thought the quotes were hit or miss on relevance for use. If you like Tozer this might be a nice quick resource to have.

The Quotable Tozer is a topical collection of quotes by A.W. Tozer compiled by James L. Snyder. In his introduction, Snyder writes, "I have gone through all of his books and pulled quotes from them that I believe will help readers get to know him better and understand who he was. My purpose in putting it together was first for those who may not be acquainted with Tozer’s writings, to introduce the reader to them in small slices that they can absorb."

Is The Quotable Tozer a good introduction to Tozer? If I answer "no," it would only be so I could say "YES. A THOUSAND TIMES YES."

Am I prone to gushing when it comes to Tozer? YES. You might pick up on that in every review I've ever written of his books.

What do I love about Tozer? I love his passion, his zeal for the Lord. I love his no-nonsense boldness. He was not one for compromise. He stood for the TRUTH no matter the cost. He loved the Word and believed it should be the sole authority in the life of the individual and the church.

No doubt I love Tozer. But that doesn't mean I agree with him 100% of the time. I don't. We both love God. We both love Scripture. We both hold the truth to be of the utmost importance. But we have slight differences of opinion about the sovereignty of God in election, aka the doctrines of grace. Reading Tozer, one gets the sense that he believed the "T", he just never quite got around to the "ULIP" before he died.

So much of what Tozer says is right. But not every single thing. I have learned to keep what is good, what is true, what is right, and to throw out what misses the mark.

So what are the topics explored in The Quotable Tozer:

Ambitions
Angels
Anger
Authority
Believer
Bible
Christianity
Church
Commandments of Christ
Devil
