I really enjoyed this. It had me completely hooked, to the point where I got so impatient with the endless twists about Kieran’s parentage that I straight-up Googled it and spoiled myself. No regrets. The family tree alone was a wild experience.

This book was dense, and since it was my first adult fantasy read in months, my progress was slower than usual. But I’m so glad I finally picked it up! The world feels so lived-in, like we’ve just dropped into the middle of something massive, and I love that feeling. Kieran is such an engaging main character, the dual timeline storytelling was fascinating, and I’m very curious about where this series goes next.

Oh, and I finally met Janel! I need to know more about her. I have all five books sitting on my shelf, and now that I’ve started, there’s no way I’m stopping.

Is this story non-linear with two past time lines being alternatively told? Yes. Is it at times hard to keep track of who is related to who and who is in whose body cause of reincarnation and soul swapping? Also yes. But if those things won't bother you this is a FANTASTIC adventure fantasy with a wide range of magical creatures and races and a planet with a complex history. Gods walk among men, prophecies are starting to be fulfilled and Kihrin is one of my favorite disaster chosen ones to follow in the chaos of it all. Oh there are also footnotes but they are SUPER snarky and worth it. Highly recommend immersion reading with the audiobooks!
