A good book. Well written with great characters and a good plot. The storyline flows and the mystery is enjoyable. I highly recommend.,

Snow falling gently down onto the sleepy town of Mcgill, Georgia seems like a picture-perfect postcard at Christmas. Unfortunately, for Stella Reid, her house is the exact opposite of this picturesque scene. From vandals destroying decorations to something much more deadly, a murder. Stella decided to stir the pot of the local gossip line to see what all she can shake up.

This isn't as easy as it seems since the one who was murdered had a very long list of enemies. Trying to protect her home, family, and community Stella sets out to catch this naught elf before it is too late.

Festive.
Charming.
Enthralling.

A light and fast cozy mystery to add to the collection! A setting that makes you want to pack up and move there (yep, even with MURDER!). Great plot, atmosphere and fantastic characters- everything that gives a cozy the charm we love! Another GREAT book!

While this book is part of a series, there’s no requirement to read any of the others. This is a perfect read for the festive period and might just get you hooked on another mystery series.

I haven't read any of the Moonlight Magnolia Agency/Savannah Reid books but it turns out there is no need to as other than the first few and last few pages the rest of the book is set in the past. Granny Reid (Stella) is trying to give her grandkids a good upbringing and is fighting an uphill battle, her son drives a rig and is out of town most of the time, her daughter in law hates her but loves Elvis and alcohol (not necessarily in that order). The story opens with Stella looking after the children for a few days (so their mother doesn't have to), this means she needs to stretch her limited pension to provide food for 8 people! she is a strong woman mind you and is prepared to give what she can to her Grand Angels, as they are headed to the store they are side tracked by the fact that someone (and Stella has a darned good idea as to who) has vandalized the town Nativity Scene, but this fades into insignificance when later that evening Stella hears someone being attacked. Now she, the local law enforcement and a couple of good friends need to figure out what happened and hope that every one can have a wonderful Christmas Season.

G A McKevett doesn't shy away from the harsh realities of life, but she presents them (in this book) so that they get sandwiched with a lot of fun!

I love a good festive cozy, and this one was very enjoyable. The characters were likeable, and the mystery itself was really well written and original. I'd recommend it to cozy mystery lovers, especially those who like a little festive Christmas fun with their mysteries. You won't be disappointed.

I was sent a free copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. I was not financially compensated and all opinions are 100 percent mine.

I absolutely adore cozy mysteries and Christmas, and this book combines my two loves in a very special way. The writing was exquisite, the characters were believable, and the mystery was difficult to figure out. This is easily one of the most delightful mystery books I have read in ages.

What sets this book apart from the run-of-the-mill cozy mystery is that it has more of a story than just the murder mystery. Stella is one of the most endearing sleuths I've read in a while, and the tales of her family and life and some of the most entertaining and heartwarming I've read. I found that this mystery encompassed the entire gamut of human emotion, and I hope this is just the first of many of these Granny Reid mysteries.

If you are concerned about the content, there is nothing inappropriate in this book. In fact, Christian principles are emphasized time and again. Even though not everyone in the book is upright, it is refreshing to see so many people have a conscience and try to do the right thing...eventually. Hallmark fans would love this mystery as would classic mystery fans!

I always wanted to know Granny's backstory...and so glad this latest chapter in the Savannah Reid stories gives the readers the.opportunity. What's awesome about this series is that you find yourself reading the text in the Southern accent complete with figures of speech and slang. The Reid grandchildren were named after cities in Georgia which is clever also.
Granny has a rigid code of conduct she lives by and is the force of nature for her grandchildren. Their good for nothing mother constantly endangers them and doesn't provide for them emotionally or otherwise. What's more is the mother rejects the help from her mother in law and tries to alienate her children from their grandmother. We find that grandmother Stella witnesses the end of a murder and can't save a local woman but makes it her mission to assist the Sheriff in solving who did it. Sheriff Gilford and Stella share a history and a certain chemistry and work together in solving this mystery. There are many twists to this story, Stella ends up with some Christmas blessings of her own and justice is brought. This story was so much pleasure to read, I love the sense of family and community in this series. Stella and her moral compass, shared with Savannah make them a good team to bring closure on this whodunit. I was very pleased to receive an ARC of this from NetGalley and Kensington in exchange for a review

This is a prologue to the Savannah Reid mysteries which i haven't read but which wasn't a problem.

Granny Reid is responsible for her 7 grandchildren, her son is a long distance lorry driver and is rarely at home whilst her daughter in law is a drunk. Granny Reid is a firm but fair Grandmother with a big heart,

The local scarlet woman Prissy is killed and Granny Reid investigates. The local Sheriff has a soft spot for Granny Reid and seems to welcome her help.

The book is as much about family relationships as it is about the murder.

Thank you Netgalley for allowing me to read and review this title. I usually don't enjoy books that are written with a dialect, however, this book was the exception I loved it. I will now begin reading the Savannah Reid mysteries. A very enjoyable book that is the prologue to the series.

This is a delightful spin off of the Savannah Reid series. Granny is one of my favorite characters, and I enjoyed reading a story from her perspective. I can't wait for the next installment.

I absolutely loved this book. I can not wait for the next one. This is a story of a 50+Grandma taking care of her 6 grandchildren because their mom is a drunk and their dad would rather stay away than come home and raise them. This Grandma is no nonsense but also loves them with all her heart. To teach them values and wrong from right and there are consequences and they love her in return. There is a part at the beginning when her grandson had me laughing so hard because of something that a man had said to Stella in front of the kids. Also there is a murder and Stella helps the sheriff solve it. Also Stella's best friend and neighbor is dealing with an abusive husband. I could not stop reading this.

Murder in Her Stockingby G.A. McKevett is the first book in the Granny Reid Mystery series. This is a spin off of the Savannah Reid Mystery series, but it takes place 30 years ago. I enjoy the Savannah series, and Granny is one of my favorite characters. I love how this series goes back in time but keeps the same charming characters. This Christmas themed mystery focuses on the murder of Prissy Carr who is the town's scarlet woman. This is a wonderful southern themed mystery. I hope it is the first of many more!

Princess Fuzzypants here: I truly enjoyed this nostalgic look back at Granny Reid and her seven grandchildren including Savannah and Waycross. Not only did these children get saddled with “unique” names from places in Georgia but they were saddled with two very ill-equipped parents. Thankfully Stella, or Granny Reid, was there to fill in the gaps. If it had been left to their drunken mother or their absent father, their lives might have been a constant downward spiral. As i is, they come close enough to tragedy as the story evolves.
But Stella is one strong and capable woman, full of compassion and love and loyalty. She is an example to which more humans should aspire. She is full of the milk of human kindness although her daughter in law comes close to turning that milk very sour.
Even more interesting than the murder of the town harlot is the family dynamics. That is not to say that they mystery which Stella solves is not good. It seems the victim has been a very busy lady with many of the husbands in town and these same husbands have been quite generous with the jewellery of their wives. These poor women were cheated more than once. Some were even abused in physical ways too. While the victim is not innocent, Stella discovers there is another side to her and both Stella and the reader share some sympathy for her life and her death.
There was not one element or story line in this book that did not fascinate. I found myself wanting to pick up the rest of the series to fill in all the blanks that this prequel provided. I had read some of the earlier books but I was never as hooked by the characters as I am now. That is a high recommendation.
Five purrs and two paws up.

At first, I wasn’t sure what to make of Murder in Her Stocking. The first quarter of the book seemed devoted to exploring family relationships, emphasizing that between Granny Stella and her grandchildren Savannah and Waycross. The actual murder didn’t take place until after 2 hours had gone by (in the audiobook). After a bit of research, I discovered that, although this is the first book in the Granny Reid series, the series itself is a prequel to the author’s Savannah Reid series. While reading the Savannah Reid series is not strictly necessary to the enjoyment of this book, I do believe it would have been helpful to have been familiar with the various characters.

The mystery itself was fairly straightforward, with good clues. Its resolution was satisfying, although the book did not contain the amount of twists and turns normally expected in a cozy mystery, perhaps due to all of the emphasis on the Reid family’s problems. What makes the story interesting – and charming – is the way the author uses Southern traditions (with a narrator that does a convincing Southern accent) and heartwarming scenes to flesh out the mystery. By the end, you feel like Stella is a cherished friend.

All-in-all, Murder in Her Stocking is an entertaining read that makes you want to hear more about Granny’s adventures. Maybe it’s time for me to check out the Savannah Reid series!

This is my first book to read by G. A. McKevett, and it will not be the last. This book has a great storyline. The mystery was not easy to solve, and kept me reading until I had finished the book. I loved the characters and the town. I will be going back and reading the other books in this series. So happy to have found a new author and a new series!

I received a copy of this book from the publisher. All opinions are my own.

Murder In Her Stocking was a great read. It held my attention from page 1 all the way to the end. It is a great beginning to a new series drawing on characters from her previous series. Imparticularly liked the familyness of the story line and how she stresssed the importance of family. Since I've read her previous series I know Savannah as an adult and now am given a chance to know her as a child. Look forward to reading more of this series.

Stella(Granny)Reid is featured in this well done spinoff of the popular Savannah Reid series by G.A.McKevett. Stella remembers 30 years ago when she finds the local town floozie dying in an alley and how she helped Sheriff Gifford solve the murder. The affection the sheriff has for Stella is a nice complement to the book.
How Granny got custody of her grandchildren following mother’s car accident while drugged is also part of story.
I liked the way story lines intersected while keeping reader guessing the outcome. I also liked learning how young Savannah became interested in law enforcement as a future career.
I am looking forward to future books in this new series.

I cannot say enough how much I enjoyed this book! I have loved all the Savannah Reid books and was so excited when I saw we were going to go back a bit with her grandma. Gives us such a glimpse into what came before Moonlight Magnolia, before Dirk. This one is all Granny Reid and we love it!
I voluntarily reviewed an advanced copy of this book provided by NetGalley.
