I received ARC from NetGalley in exchange for my honest review
I don’t knit but this was a lovely cozy. The killer is a bit easy to figure out early on but the story is a fun read and this is part of a series so there a several more by the same author if you would like to read more by her.
If you love cozy mysteries and you live knitting, and you don’t want the typical mystery where you have figured out The Who and why halfway threw then this author and series is for you! She has great stories with great flow and I am always surprised but the ending.
A pleasant cozy mystery. Some surprises. Not my favorite in this series, but still a good read. The publisher provided a copy via NetGalley.
Who poisoned Liza's diet shake (yuck and yuck!)? Not Suzanne, who is the one who found her and who also had argued with her a lot. She appeals to her friend Maggie and the other Black Sheep Knitters to help her out by investigating, which of course they do. There was more to Liza than most people knew, both good and bad, and this is winnowed out slowly, with some good red herrings. The best part of this is the interaction between the women. Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC. I had not read all the books in this series so this was more or less a standalone for me and I was fine with it. Try it for a classic cozy.
A fun to read and enjoyable cozy mystery.
I never read any other instalment in this series and this was a great surprise.
I loved the plot that kept me guessing till the end, the cast of characters and their friendship.
The book is well written and, even if it's not the first in the series, I had no problem in understanding the characters and their relationship.
A good cozy, recommended!
Many thanks to Kensington Books and Netgalley for this ARC
I read the first two books in this series several years ago and enjoyed them. The tone of cozy mysteries can be hit or miss. Some are over-the-top perky (irritating) or cliche/syereotype-ridden (eyeroll) as to make the books unreadable. Happily, Anne Canadeo's characters, for the most part are well-grounded and its easy to be with. Maggie can get a little school-marmish but not so much as to be totally annoying as she lead the efforts to seek the real killer after a member of the group had been framed for murder. A nice side aspect to this book was the group's involvement in knitting baby things for a charity project. I will go back and read the other books in this series.
How did they release book 10 and I’m just finding this author?
When realtor Suzanne is the prime suspect in the murder of her nemesis and coworker, the ladies in her knitting club come to her rescue. But th8ngs are looking pretty bleak for Suzanne, but with friends who have your back and put their own neck on the line for you, there’s still hope.
What Suzanne and the gang discover is far more than who done it. They find that the murder victim was more than they just saw her to be. It’s a good lesson for all of us to think about and learn more about people before being so quick to judge them.
I enjoyed the ladies of the black sheep knitting club and loom forward to reading more in this series. The only reason I gave it four stars is because Suzanne is a tad whiny and self absorbed. Granted she learns her lesson, but it was a bit annoying. From what I have read, th stories are to,s from. Other characters voices as well. So I’m going to check those out. Good read though.
I really enjoyed reading about the knitting group again . This time is was all about Suzanne as a coworker was poisoned it all points to Suzanne .
The knitting group pulls together and help solve the mystery unleashing secrets .
A well thought out plot .
Thanks to Kensington books and to netgalley for letting me read this very enjoyable book .
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the chance to read this book!
Although this is book ten in the series, I had no trouble whatsoever falling into the crowd of Black Sheep knitters and solving a mystery with the number one suspect, Suzanne. This is a rare gift; sometimes books in a series that have been going this long need to be read from the beginning, but I'm glad to say Anne Canadeo can attract in new readers with these books, regardless of where you start. From the beginning I felt welcomed and was given just enough information on everything to make a decision about each character.
I really enjoyed the murder/mystery, and I felt like there was enough clues to really throw the reader off. I suspected one of the main twists, but it didn't work out exactly the way I had believed. I was still intrigued enough to invest in the mystery!
A really solid cozy book, I'll have to check out more of them. Five stars!
Purls and Poison by Anne Canadeo did not disapoint this fan of the Black Sheep. This mystery solving knitting group keeps you interested in their knitting projects, relationships, local town happenings and especially the latest murder. I am always left wanting more.
I really enjoy this series but I was not impressed with Suzanne as the main character in this book. I much prefer the books from Lucy or Maggie’s POV.
I received a copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for an honest review. I was not paid for this review.
Maggie’s yarn shop is in a small town, where The Black Sheep Knitters meet and knit. They are good friends who have each other’s back. When one of them is accused of murdering her business rival, the others are determined to find the true killer. The different personalities and the developing twists in the plot make for an enjoyable read. This is a stand alone mystery in a series of books where the Black Sheep knitters get involved in solving a murder.
My thanks to NetGalley and Kensington Books for providing an advanced digital copy of Purls and Poison by Anne Canadeo in exchange for an honest review. This is the second in a series of books featuring a group of knitting friends who have named themselves the Black Sheep Knitters.
The mystery in this book is a classic cozy featuring the murder of Liza, a work rival of Suzanne who is one of the group of knitters. She is almost immediately suspected of the murder and it seems the police are not looking at any other suspects, so it’s left up to her and her friends to find out who the real killer is before she is arrested. The reason for her decision to investigate is believable, but it was a bit difficult to believe the police settled on her as a murderer as rapidly as they did.
Clues and red herrings are well placed throughout the book, giving the reader ample time to try and solve the murder before the denouement. I solved “who done it” about half way through the book, and enjoyed reading to the end to confirm I was correct. That was the primary spur that kept me reading the book to the end as I had difficulty identifying with Suzanne and the other characters.
I found Suzanne difficult to like, which made me less interested in discovering if she was able to extricate herself from the situation. The other characters in the knitters group seemed to be less well developed, leaving me wondering if I would have known them better had I read the first book in the series. In the end, however, I was not sufficiently interested enough to make me go back and pick up the first book in the series.
The pace of the book seemed a bit uneven at times, with abrupt shifts from one chapter to the other. On a couple of occasions I found myself having to go back to the previous chapter to make sure I hadn’t overlooked something. Reading forward, it became more apparent how the chapters tied together, it just caused me some difficulty in maintaining a smooth read throughout the book.
For people who are fans of cozy mysteries, this one has some elements that will create strong appeal. Particularly the opportunity to solve the mystery along with the protagonist and her friends is a plus for me. If you are planning to read the book, I might suggest you pick up the first in the series first in order to obtain a better picture of who the characters who make up the knitting group are and how they relate to each other.
What a fun read and it includes knitting! As a novice knitter and cozy mystery reader, I found this one to be fun and enjoyable. The characters are interesting and the twists were fun to follow. I would definitely use this in a book club, but also sell and a needlework shop too!
Suzanne has a very public disagreement with he colleague Liza, unfortunately that evening shes found murdered in the office by Suzanne who becomes the prime suspect. Her friends the Black sheep knitters rally round her as they know she's being framed. This causes problems with Maggie and her detective boyfriend.
There's theft, an affair, a secret child and murder. An easy to read book with a fun cast of characters. I'll be reading the other books in the series.
This is a great series. Suzanne is accused of murdering her archnemesis at the office, Liza. The knitting gang closes ranks to help solve the case, getting Maggie in trouble with her detective boyfriend who is tired of the gang snooping. The pieces of the mystery start coming together as more clues are revealed, money is embezzled, a child is at stake, and the knitting needles smoke with new projects, and Maggie embarks on a new journey.
Only have read bits and pieces of the Black Sheep series, but I've always enjoyed the ones I have read and this one is no different. Rather thoroughly enjoyed this page turner with a lot of twist and turns to keep you engaged. Love characters and how they grow throughout the series.
Purls and Poison by Anne Canadeo was another complex little mystery to be solved by the Black Sheep knitters.
Although I am fairly new to this series, I had previously read Knit to Kill so I was a little familiar with the women, Maggie, Phoebe, Dana, Suzanne and Lucy. This time they must rally around Suzanne as her temper has gotten her into a world of trouble. The plot is quickly paced with plenty of suspects, twists and turns and red herrings that made Suzanne look very guilty. I couldn't stop turning the pages to find out what the ladies were going to do next. This is a novella but the story was complete with all the intrigue needed to keep me wrapped up in the story. I am so glad that I have found this series.
This latest offering in the series is a solid cozy mystery.
The friendship with the knitting group is the backbone of this series.
The whodunit was well written and interesting.
I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book.
Purls and Poison is a fabulous addition to this series by Anne Canadeo.
When fellow knitter Suzanne has had it with a co worker, she has no idea that her actions and harsh words will make her a prime murder suspect.
This story is really intense and it kept me reading until the very end.
I love all the characters in this series and their bond with each other makes this a true hit.
I'm a huge fan of this series and I can't wait until the next book is out.
I volunteered to read and review an ARC of this book provided by the publisher and NetGalley.
