This may be my favorite Cathy Lamb book. I love her characters and how she is able to make them real for her readers. I always finish her books wishing I could be friends with them.
The Man She Married is wonderful! I loved it! I went into the story thinking I may not like Natalie's husband. I was concerned that he may have been evil in disguise. He proved himself time and time again even while Natalie knew he wasn't telling the whole truth. Natalie is so amazing and quite the fighter. She fought her way through a coma and a trauma brain injury. I cannot say enough about how much I enjoyed her friends, family, and other brain patients. I loved how Cathy mentioned characters from other books in this one. It was like catching up with old friends.
I highly recommend this book to everyone!!!
I receive an ARC of the this book from NetGalley and Kensington. Thank you so much for the opportunity to read this wonderful book!!
Solid 3.5 stars
This book. So much potential, and an easy 4 stars for me ... until the end. Literally until the very end. It was very different than I expected. There was a lot more focus on Natalie's injuries and recovery than I expected; based on the description and the beginning of the book I assumed this was going to be heavy on the mystery surrounding Zach's past. So that was a surprise, but not an unwelcomed one. I enjoyed getting to know Natalie's character through her recovery and flashbacks to her childhood and family/friendships, and really liked all of the characters in the book, even Natalie's mom. Zach's past was woven into the storyline really well, and there was great past/present flow to the book. And then the end. Without posting spoilers, it was just too easy, too far-fetched, too ridiculous for me to handle, and I couldn't help but knock it down half a star (the ending was that bad for me). But, having said that, the first 90% of the book was great, and I would still absolutely recommend it (since I know there are plenty of people out there who could overlook the flaws in the ending)!
What a beautiful book. I could not have loved it more if I tried. A book about comebacks, the power of love and friendship and when those who let go of misconceptions or hidden truths truly become who they were meant to be.
This book starts out as a story of a woman finding out that “The Man She Married” has lied to her about his past. But, unlike so many others, there are multiple twists and turns that take the reader to a place that is far different from expectations.
Natalie learns about her husband’s lies and as she leaves her house in a fury, she is blindsided by a van. The result is a traumatic brain injury. Her initial locked in coma is followed by rehab, but unlike a fairy tale, she knows she will never regain her normal life.
The author manages to keep her sense of humor and stirs in relationships with friends and a very unusual mother.
The one true thing that remains is her love and faith in her husband Zack. At times, the reader wants to shake her and remind her of what happened as she is continually menaced.
Finally, she deals with the truth and Zack faces his past. Her brain injury changes life forever but there is fine closure.
"Relationships are complicated. People are complicated. Love is complicated."
I truly enjoyed every minute of this novel as I soaked it up in two days.
It is written with great detail and descriptions that forced me to turn the pages quickly.
The plot has a love story, murder mystery, and suspense. Add in some amazing friends and some dysfunctional characters and it is delightfully all woven into one fantastic book.
Who is the man that Natalie married? What secrets are hiding out there and can Natalie find them before they find her?
A great ten star novel! Just wow!
Thank you to Net Galley and Kensington Books for an e-ARC of this title. The book starts out at a fast pace, with Natalie learning her husband has lied about everything she knows about him. This past puts Natalie's life in jeopardy, and she will have to rethink and relearn everything she thought she understood. Natalie has a tight circle of friends and her dad to lean on, but her relationship with her mom is filled with bad history. There is the mystery of what turned her life upside down, but there is also a good background of friendship, marriage and your relationship with your parents. Some secrets will come back to haunt you and they have to be faced. I enjoyed this book. I had minor complaints, issues with Natalie mentioned way too much how hot her husband was. We get it. The name of her friendship group is also repeated many, many times. That said, I enjoyed the book and would highly recommend. it.
I just finished The Man She Married by Cathy Lamb. It's not the first book I've read by her, nor will it be the last. She has a wonderful way of reaching down into your soul and touching you as a person and reader. If you haven't read any of hers, you should correct that quickly!
The Man She Married was about trust, but so much more. There were secrets, the way those secrets make you beat yourself up and how relieved one feels when all the secrets hit the light of day. This book contains gentle lessons about self-esteem, the power and value of friendship, appreciating what you have and how very important families are no matter what makes up a particular family. I say gentle because the author doesn't beat you over the head with anything. It's soft and easy and before I knew it I was thinking, huh....pretty great way to get that point across Ms. Lamb.
I have a sister-in-law that suffered a TBI (traumatic brain injury) and from seeing what she went through, I have to believe Cathy Lamb did some serious research into this subject. She wrote about various things people with a TBI suffer through honestly, with humor as a buffer and love surrounding all of that. I was glad to see it addressed in the way it was because so many have no idea what that entails. I also greatly respect authors that take the time to do their research. It shows a respect for the reader and the subject.
I can say that I fell in love with the small town of Lake Joseph and was happy to see a few characters from previous novels mentioned in this one. I can't recommend this story highly enough and urge you to read it. You'll be glad you did.
There is so much more to this book than "the man she married"; although that's the big part of it. Secrets kept for years by those you love, friendships that last a liftetime, a dad who every girl dreams of having as a protector, and a eccentric mom that makes you need a drink to spend time with! I loved the characters in this book. A really fun book with a great story.
Thanks to Netgalley and the Publisher for the ARC
Many thanks to Cathy Lamb and Kingston Books for the opportunity to read and review this book. I totally enjoyed this book from start to finish , both entertaining and engaging. While somewhat far fetched at times it was so nice to lose myself in the love of Zack and Natalie. Will look out for more by this author.
Imagine getting in a car accident and waking up in a coma not able to communicate but you can hear everything!!! Well unfortunately, that’s exactly where Natalie Shelton finds herself! As she fades in and out of consciousness, Natalie finds out her adoring husband is hiding things. Eventually regaining consciousness, Natalie has a lot of work ahead of her to rehabilitate her body/mind all the while trying to remember the accident and figure out what is going on with her husband!
After reading the description for The Man She Married, I couldn’t wait to dive in!! Cathy Lamb has done a great job with combining women’s fiction and mystery! I was on the hook from start to finish—I literally flew through this novel in record time because I needed answers!! I also enjoyed the supporting characters and their storylines, they added so much to the book! The Man She Married is a 4.5 star read that I recommend to everyone!!
Cathy Lamb's newest book , "The Man She Married" is a thoughtful, gripping memorable novel, one that I read in 24 hours because I was so captivated and hooked from the very first sentence.
Natalie was in a horrific accident and is in a coma unable to communicate, but acutely aware of everything around her. She starts to think her husband, Zack is hiding something, she can see everything, but can't say anything.
When comes out of her coma, Natalie tries to put the pieces together and in doing so she discovers secretes from her husbands past that she may not want to know, as this could put her in danger.
If you love Cathy Lamb's books, you will absolutely LOVE this book. I cannot recommend it highly enough.
I have read all of Cathy Lamb's books, and each one is even better than the last! The Man She Married is one you will not be able to put down. I read this amazing book in less than 24 hours, because I was so captivated right from the start. From the very first page, I knew I was hooked! You immediately realize from the start, that Natalie is confused about everything she thought she knew about her loving husband, Zack. Now she wonders who really is this man she married. Each page keeps you on the edge of your seat wanting to know more! If you've never read Cathy Lamb's books, you MUST read this amazing book. If you are a current fan of Cathy's books, you will love this book just as much, if not more, than all her other wonderful books. You will not be disappointed. Highly recommend! A must read!!
