This a short novel set in post Civil War Savannah. It is a sometimes heart-warming story dealing with the struggles of surviving in the war=torn south. It also deals with love lost and reunions. The characters are strong and the story is an easy and enjoyable read. I voluntarily read an ARC of this book.
Certainly not a book I would normally read, but it’s charm won me over. It’s well written with wonderful characters.
This was a sweet, short romance. I am so used to reading action romances written by Kat Martin that this made a good change. It could have done with a bit more detail but for a novella it was not bad at all.
Christmas Angel is a quick and great read. I enjoyed the historical and romance. I am giving it four and a half stars.
After reading the book I realized I had read the book several years before. Still nice to read a historical Christmas novel.
This is a quick and endearing romance novella. Reunion romances are not a typical read for me and I was pleasantly surprised by this story. The author captured their love in the midst of the pain wrought by war. This is my first book I’ve read by Kat Martin and will be interested in reading her full length novels based on this novella.
I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review. Yet another great book by a fabulous author. I highly recommend her work to everyone.
TThe Civil War divided family and friends and such is the case with Angel and Josh. When Josh decided to fight for the North, where his mother was from, he left Angel and the southern town behind. Now after the war is over and he comes back home, Angel and his friends cannot forgive him or let go of the war because the town was taken over by the Yankees. Both of them had changed so much. Josh had become a doctor in the war and Angel was bitter about it all. It seems there cannot be a way to breach the gap between them although they still have feelings for each other. Can they come together again when a terrible train accident happens and they have to pull together?
This was a time in history that changed so many people and in this short novella, the author brings the emotions forward. I was anxious to see what happened and I know you will enjoy this story.he Civil War divided family and friends and such is the case with Angel and Josh. Tender, sweet, wonderful novella about two people that were on opposite sides in the Civil War and now after the war has ended find their way back to each other.
Angel Summers has lost a lot due to the Civil War and the peace has brought even more deprivation to Savannah, GA and the once glorious plantation Angel calls home. Her hate of all blue-bellied Yankees is still very real. She is shocked to hear a voice one day, the voice of Josh Coltrane, the beau who years ago won her heart then threw it away when he joined the Union forces as a doctor. Their path back to their true love isn't easy and they have a lot of differences to forgive and forget.
Christmas Angel is a poignant look at the devastation that war, hatred and bitterness leaves behind, even once the fighting is done. Angel experienced such loss during the Civil War... her love, her parents, her home in many ways and the life she once thought she would live with Josh at her side. Now Angel is faced with her hometown being taken over by the Yankee forces, and Josh walking back into her life no longer the young boy he once was but a man, a doctor, and a former love still very much a part of her heart no matter the anger she feels toward him now.
Josh had compelling reasons in his decision to fight for the North during the War. That choice cost him so much, but the worst blow was losing his love, his future with Angel. Now back in his hometown he's experiencing the horror that those he loved and left faced during those four long years. He can never expect Angel to forgive him yet when she needs his help, granted only in absolute desperation, perhaps there is a way that two people who once loved so deeply can put the past behind them. Yet betrayal has deep roots. Josh cannot stay, and Angel will not leave... where does that leave then now.
The Civil War, The War Between the States - no matter how you categorize it, this division of a country still has deep roots to this day. Christmas Angel is a short but powerful look at the effect the division of a country had on two people very much in love and wanting a future together. It was very easy to see both Josh and Angel's side of events and watching them find their way back to each other was both heartbreaking and heartwarming. If you are a Kat Martin fan, as I am, then you'll enjoy this short Christmas tale. There is an underlying sadness though because even when love wins the pain caused by hate has already taken its toll.
*I received an e-ARC of this novel from the publisher via NetGalley. That does not change what I think of this story. It is my choice to leave a review giving my personal opinion about this book.*
A very enjoyable, quick read. I usually enjoy a book set in the Civil War era and this was no exception. Perfect if you are looking for a holiday story but are short on time.
This ia a wonderful, heartwarming story about loss, forgiveness, acceptance and love. Josh and Angel were in love before the war separated them. After the war is over Josh comes back to town and although there is alot of hurt and bitterness over the war, underneath it all there is love. Can it be reclaimed. Or did the path Josh chose separate them forever? This is a heartwarming story with wonderful characters and a great storyline. I would definitely recommend this book.
Even though this was very short, novella length I enjoyed it a lot. Josh Coltrane leaves his love, Angela and his Southern ideals to fight for the North in the Civil War. His mother was from Pennsylvania. He became a doctor during the war, a mighty good one. Once back in his Southern hometown now that the war is over his former friends and Angela can't forgive him or let go of the war mentality. A train accident purposely caused brings much needed food and medical supplies to the south that was destined for the north. Angela is bitter because of the death of her mother and father directly related to the war. Even though they try to fight the passion after not seeing each other for four years it still burns brightly for this former couple no matter if they're on the side of the north or the south. A young child may be just what Josh and Angela need to be brought back together again. A whirlwind of passion and fast happening action!

I was given a complimentary copy of this book from Kensington Books through NetGalley. Thank you. All opinions expressed are my own.
This is a very short story about a Christmas miracle and a second chance at love.
Josh Coltrane abandoned his love and the ideals of the south when he left to fight for the north. Now Josh is back in his home town hated by all his old friends and neighbors caring for a group of wounded men with little to no supplies and then the supplies are stolen.
Is there a chance for Angel and Josh to find their way back? Can Angel help Josh get the supplies back? In a sweet heartwarming heart blink the sweet story is over with predictable results.
I was disappointed because the story did not have a chance to build momentum even if the bones were excellent.
The Christmas Angel by Kat Martin is a short historical story. It was a very good story and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Thank you netgalley for the arc, the opinion is my own.
A short but enjoyable story by Kat Martin. This is a second chance romance story centred around the American civil war. Josh left the south to fight for the North during the Civil War because he did not believe in slavery. Angel cannot forgive her former beau particularly when she witnessed the destruction when the army came through Savannah. Josh has returned to the local hospital as a doctor. When Angel’s brother is injured the two are brought together and forced to deal with their grief and heartache.
There was so much hatred at the end of the Civil War and Angel was very bitter about Yankees being in her town after what the Yankees did when they got there. Then Josh walks back into her life after four years. He was a traitor. He left her four years ago to fight for the North. He isn't the same boy who left her, he is now a man and a doctor. Angel is still beautiful, but she isn't the same sweet girl he knew before the war. It doesn't matter, he still loves her. Can they get around the hate to build a life together? She won't leave her home and he doesn't think he can stay. What will they do?
Christmas Angel (Kindle Edition) by Kat Martin .. I love this short Christmas story by Kat... Thanks to the publisher and #NetGalley for letting me preview this book. Angela Summers (Angel) Rebel who can't forgive her love Josh Coltrane (a Yankee doctor) who sided with the North during the Civil War. It is the second Christmas in Savannah since the end of the war and Josh is back caring for wounded Yankee soldiers. This book to me back to those times with all the hardships, hurt feelings, love lost and found again, and the slow mending of hurt that gets to a very HEA. Willie's part in this story tugs at your heart.
Christmas Angel is a very well written historical romance. Enjoyed the Civil War plot, the Savannah setting and the author’s writing. I recommend to fans of historical romance. My thanks to Netgalley for my digital arc this is my unbiased review.
Christmas Angel is a second chance romance. Josh joined the Union Army as a doctor. When he left, Angel told him he was dead to her. Now, four years later, Josh is assigned to Fort Jackson, his home community. Josh’s mother was from the wealthy, northern family. Angel is just trying to hold her family together and take care of their family home, having lost her family due to the war.
Angel refuses to have anything to do with Josh until her brother is injured. The local doctor cannot be found when he brother gets worse. This opens an opportunity for Angel and Josh to spend the needed time together to rebuild their relationship.
As a post civil war romance, there is the evidence of the bitterness the south had toward those from the north. Angel’s real character comes out with the compassion she has for the wounded northern soldiers.
This is a quick, light-hearted novella, entertaining and historic in nature. It is not deeply developed, but complete just the same.
