Mackenzie and Hunter know each other professionally. Obstacles arise as choices are made. Unspoken love and a claiming of what rightfully should have been done in the past leads to second chances.
I have read a little of Mariana Adair but not much, however, I really enjoyed this book. It takes place in Nashville with the obligatory singer who has made it big with his band. He also had a “best friend” female songwriter who helped him make many hits. However, there is a twist here with the female songwriter and even though she has always loved Hunter ( big time singer), they have a lot of obstacles to overcome. Her obstacle felt very real, and was not easily overcome, and until the end of the book, which i felt was a little rushed, I throughly enjoyed her journey. Actually felt sorry at times for Hunter, who just couldn’t seem to understand her dilemma, but of course, a feel good HEA made the book enjoyable.
Promise Me You by Marina Adair was a second chance romance between friends with all the feels. Hunter and Mackenzie were friends and worked together. He was also the man she fell in love with. But he made a different choice and she walked away. She worked hard to move on, but Hunter Kane is now divorced and wants a second chance with woman he left behind.
A musician and a song writer who get a second chance, what is not to love. I loved how strong and caring Mackenzie is. Hunter Kane was charming, sweet and at times frustrating. Though you could see they cared deeply for each other they also had a lot of history between them. Their story was a slow burn romance that was engaging and full of chemistry.
After finishing Promise Me You I am, quite frankly, speechless. I’ve just had my heart ripped out of my chest and handed back to me whole… and I have no idea, at all, of how to convey that to you without giving away major plot lines. I just don’t.
So, where does that fact leave me? Probably with the shortest, most heart felt review that I’ve written to date.
Hunter’s and Mackenzie’s relationship is complex and simple. The chemistry is there – both professionally and certainly personally as the sparks simply fly off of them when they’re together. Hunter made a decision, on his own, that will come back to bite him both personally and professionally. It was one of those “It seems right at the time” moments that often lead to heartache and regret down the line… his decision certainly did that and more.
Today, with that wrong decision firmly in his past, Hunter is going for what should have been his all along… Mackenzie. Only now life has changed for Mackenzie and letting Hunter back into her life is more dangerous than she might be willing to risk.
…and that’s all I’m willing to risk saying about Promise Me You. At least, plot-wise.
I shed real life tears with this one. I got so angry that I could have punched someone. And I fell in love with two people who really need to be together for so many reasons. Life isn’t always fair, but love can ease that unfairness more than we might acknowledge.
If you enjoy a Romance that will leave you at a loss for words, that will touch every emotion imaginable and leave you wanting more… then I would highly recommend Promise Me You. It is one incredible ride, and one that I was privileged to take.
*I received an e-ARC of this novel from the publisher via NetGalley. That does not change what I think of this story. It is my choice to leave a review giving my personal opinion about this book.*
I absolutely loved this book! I'm a fan of Marina Adair book and this one was certainly no exception! Hunter and Mack were so good togther. They definitely had a rough road to get together but the writing was fantastic and she does an amazing job making her characters real and deep. I always enjoy that I can feel a lot of emotions while reading Marian Adair books. I always get a chance to laugh and maybe a tear or two. Steamy and romantic all the things you want but she also tackled real life issues making it easy to relate to the characters. I honestly just enjoyed the read.
Mackenzie And Hunters story is a really emotional roller coaster of a second chance love. It will pull at those heart strings. Mackenzie has always been in love with Hunter, they wrote and played music together but Hunter broke Mackenzies heart when he married someone else, so she left. They then have a chance meeting again after three years and lots has changed. I’m not going to spoil anything by going on in my review just know it was a very good storyline and one I would recommend. I am voluntarily leaving my honest review after reading this arc.
Hunter Kane is on the fast track to make his career spectacular.
Mackenzie Hart is trying to be independent after devastating losses.
Hunter and Mackenzie wrote songs together and became best friends then Hunter found someone and decided to get married, it was more than Mackenzie could take. So she left.
After 3 years Hunter is dome licking his wounds over a failed marriage and trying to find Mackenzie.
He tried writing songs with others but knew he needed Mackenzie but didn't know where she was or how to find her. He finds a new writer group and insists on a meeting to see if he cam write with them. Their agent sneakily sets up a meet that starts a very intense and eye opening period for both Hunter and Mackenzie.
Miss Adair has written another beautiful story with great characters and I am excited to recommend this book to anyone wanting a good read.
Mackenzie is a song writer, who writes from the heart. She falls in love with Hunter Kane, but he’s marrying someone else. They reconnect three years later. Hunter is divorced. This was a sweet second chance love. This book brought me to tears. I was rooting for Mackenzie the whole book.
Fantastic second chance romance! Mackenzie and Hunter are amazing characters. Their story is an emotional and sometimes painful one. Putting the past behind them and accepting the future as it comes, the good and the bad, won't be easy but being there for each other will make it all worth it.
The book is very well written and the story have a nice pace. I definitely recommend it to everyone.
Promise Me You by Marina Adair is an emotional, heart-tugging read about second chances and dealing with whatever life throws at you.
Mackenzie Hart loved Hunter Kane but, when he planned to marry another, she let him go without a fight, as she faced a serious health situation and knew Hunter would insist on taking care of her. Hunter felt a connection to Mackenzie since he met her but, since he was older, he decided it was safer for him to consider her as only a friend and member of his band.
Fast forward three years, and Hunter is divorced and his band is in a slump, which has him determined to reach out to a songwriting "duo" that has written proven hits. His search for the elusive Mack and Muttley brings Mackenzie back into his life and shakes his world.
Music was the key to their relationship in the beginning and is also the key to restoring it, as Mackenzie's songs tell Hunter everything.
"His heart rolled over in his chest as he read the raw honesty in the lyrics. They spoke of love without limits, without restrictions or prejudice. A love that went beyond circumstance, to a level that was as forgiving as it was understanding."
While I didn't really like Hunter in the beginning, Adair does redeem him in the end as he realizes what love without limits really means.

I think this is one of those times when it's a case of authors writing style not gelling with a readers preferences. I found the whole story a little superficial, lacking in any real emotional depth or meaningful connection between the H/h.
The focal points of the story seemed to ignore the important issues between them as a couple, and I didn't really see them as a couple realistically because of it.
Not for me sadly, no review was posted publicly for this title, so no ratings were affected.
When faced with a life altering diagnosis, Mackenzie Hart has some hard decisions to make, and letting go of the man she loves but could never have, is the hardest one. Unwilling to be a burden, she disappears on him and the people she is closest with.
Hunter Kane is a rising country music star, but when his closest friend, the woman who co-writes his songs, vanishes from his life, not only do his album sales struggle, but his entire personal life as well. Worried and confused, he doesn't expect her to suddenly drop back in, living with a completely new reality that he knew nothing about...

This was such a heartfelt and emotional read. With Mackenzie's struggle with losing her vision and the changes her life undergoes in the process, I was drawn to the entire storyline and the unique situations it represented.
Although Mackenzie has endured many difficulties in learning to maneuver life without vision, she has found solace in her music. And with that, writing songs for the man who used to mean so much to her, as long as she can remain anonymous. After so much time has passed since Mackenzie removed herself from Hunter's life, when they are thrown back together, neither of them know what to expect. But, they soon find the feelings they had always harbored for one another have never dissipated.
With his personal life and career going through a major transformation, Hunter is at a crossroads he never saw coming. After finding Mack again, and finally being confronted with the reason she disappeared on him, he decides that he will never let her vanish in that way again. Mack means everything to him, and he will stop at nothing to protect her and help her to see how much she means to him, blind or not, she is still the same woman he could never get over.
I loved Mackenzie, she was smart and very determined to do things on her own, but she soon learns that she has to accept help from time to time, and that letting people in may not be the burden she always feared that it would be. And Hunter, while being a big deal in the music industry, is ready to do anything he can to help his old friend and the woman who has always meant so much to him.
From Mack’s struggles to adjust to her new everyday normal, to Hunter's mission to help her while still being a welcome, yet highly distracting part of her life, there are many hurdles these two will face on their way to HEA.
I received a complimentary copy of this book for my honest and unbiased review.
4 1/2 Song writing Stars!
Even though Mackenzie is Hunter's best friend, she's been in love with him since the day they met. But when he marries someone else, she runs ... and she doesn't see Hunter for 3 years. Hunter has become the rockstar she knew he would and Mackenzie has become blind from a genetic disease. She has been writing songs for Hunter under the assumed name Mack & Muttley. But when Hunter decides he want to co-write his next album with the song writing team ... all hell breaks loose.
This book had my heart breaking for Mackenzie. It seemed she had nothing but heartache in her life, but she didn't give up. It sure took Hunter awhile to see the beautiful flower that was right under his nose all the time. Even though he had perfect vision, he was more blind than she was! I high recommend this story ... but have the tissues handy.
I was just a little confused because Goodreads says that this is the 2nd book in the Easton series and I definitely wasn't.

I was excited to read this book as I had loved the authors previous series. This one didn’t do it for me.
I didn’t get how all of a sudden Hunter was into Mackenzie, except he liked her butt in skirts. I wish there had been more than that. It was lacking storyline for me,
I did like the blindness and how the author presented that. The star of the book for me was Muttley the dog. And the neice was adorable too.
Promise Me You was a first for me from Marina Adair, and it was a decent enough story. Mackenzie and Hunter come together after 3 years and his divorce. Their story while heartfelt, just didn’t click with me. They chemistry between them felt forced and just didn’t feel natural. The majority of their conversations were about something that Mackenzie is dealing with or Hunter’s career, and the romance took a back seat. The overall plotline was good, and it was interesting enough for me to keep reading without getting bored. I would be willing to read another book in this series,
Promise Me You is the first book I have read by this author and I really liked it! Friends to lovers is one of my favorites and this book was great! I loved Hunter and MacKenzie. They were both pretty stubborn but I loved them together. Will definitely be checking out more from this author!
I absolutely loved Mackenzie and Hunter. They had a lot of things to work out, but I loved the delicious slow burn of their story to get to the good stuff. This is definitely a book that will pull at your heart strings. It was so much more than I expected and I love that it caught me off guard. I could really feel the frustration and hardships that Mackenzie had to navigate through. Hunter becoming Mackenzie’s support instead of her hero was the best part. I can’t say enough good things about this book.
I hadn't read any of the Kane series before but I enjoyed this book. It was so unique to have a blind heroine. I really appreciated how patient the hero was with her and how supportive he was. Normally I don't like a slow burn but it made sense in this book.
Marina Adair is a newer-to-me author but one I have quickly come to enjoy. So, I was pretty excited when I managed to get an early copy of Promise Me You, especially after the way Adair talked about it. I loved it! But there were some things about it that definitely bothered me.
Mac... Mac bothered me. Or rather, I hurt a lot for her and struggled to understand her perspective sometimes. Hunter... Hunter seemed pretty darn clueless a lot of the time and that bothered me. How is a man so savvy also so clueless? But Muttley and the assorted cast of family and friends? Oh, them. Yeah, I loved them all!
It's a pretty darn emotional story, really. I mean, the man you love is in love with someone else and just wants you to be happy for him and yeah, OUCH! I have to say I am amazed that Mac stayed with Hunter as long as she did, frankly. She's certainly stronger than me because I couldn't have done it. Add to that, Mac's got a secret... an ugly, horrible, life altering secret and she's seen what it can do already. Mac's choices and her frailties and strengths are really the bulk of this book. She is center and focal point which is why I am so sad that I struggled to really "get" her.
Hunter is... an artist. That's probably the best way to look at it because in a lot of ways he's closer to the stereotype of an artist than he probably should have been. He's oblivious to things outside his craft beyond his immediate wants and desires. (view spoiler) He's oblivious to others' needs and wants, including his bandmates'.
The drama and angst of this book are both internal and external. Things happen and lives are changed that end up as issues, yes. But this is also very character-driven and both Hunter and Mac have character arcs. Their shared history also helps cement the relationship and provide drama. Friendships and extended family (I see books!) are part of the drama but also part of the solutions. I liked the strong non-romantic relationships in Promise Me You.
While I did love the book, I also struggled to connect with the main characters. Having said that, I know I want to read more about these people and this world.
Promise Me You was an enjoyable, engaging, sweet story. That although slow to start, did pull me in, particularly during the second half. As for the characters, I found them engaging and likable too. And I really felt for Mackenzie as she continued to adjust to her new reality. But I did struggle with her and Hunter as a couple. As I felt the connection wasn't there and they came across as best friends more than anything else. But it was a good read and there certainly was enough going on to keep me interested. And as a new author to me, I will certainly be looking out for more books by Marina Adair in the future. And I would happily recommend this story to others.
