The story was so unique and had me experiencing so many emotions and feelings while I was flipping pages as fast as I could. Adair writes a captivating romance between two people that couldn't be in more different places in their lives. The icing on top was Mackenzie's dog Muttley. It was just so good.
Mackenzie and Hunter are friends and sing writters. They are in the friend only zone. However, Mackenzie is in love with Hunter. This is an emotional, heartbreaking and sweet second chance read.
I revieved an advanced copy from Netgalley for an honest review.
This was truly one of the sweetest books I have read in a long time! Mackenzie and Hunter face so many obstacles in their path to being together and loving each other.
I had never really given a lot of thought to the challenges faced by someone who is newly blind and I feel like the emotions and struggles were realistically portrayed. I always love a story that makes me think about new concepts and this one did that in an entertaining way.
Great characters, wonderful story of love and second chances. A must read!

Promise Me You, by Marina Adair, is a friends-to-lovers story with a dash of second chance romance. Mackenzie became best friends with Hunter while writing songs together. She’s also completely in love with him. After receiving devastating personal news, she can’t watch him marry someone else. She disappears in order to make a fresh start. Fast-forward 3 years. Hunter’s band has hit it big, despite their last album and his divorce. He’s shocked to run into MacKenzie again, and getting her to agree to work with him is not only imperative, it’s an uphill battle. She’s not the same vibrant young woman she was before his wedding. He wants answers. He wants his writing partner back. And before long, he wants MacKenzie in every way possible. They just have to figure things out.
I struggled with liking Hunter. He was extremely full of himself, and while a lot of what he said could be labeled as flirting or humorous, some of it went too far for me. I found his (over) confidence overbearing. It made me doubt his feelings for her. He was focused on what he wanted—to write hit songs with her—and that seemed more important to him than her friendship, at least at first. After his feelings for her developed, he had a lot of what I found to be cheesy lines and put-on. That said, I liked the growth he eventually showed. They both got to where they needed to be in terms of putting the other first so their relationship had a chance.
I liked Mac. I thought the author did a good job handling her disability. (Sorry if that’s not the right word for it. I’m trying not to give anything away.) Her dog was adorable.
The writing was decent. There was a bit of confusion for me in terms of timelines and ages. We are given Mac’s backstory as well as some of Hunter’s story. One of his reasons for not initially pursuing her was her age, and I thought the story implied he was 10 years her senior. Another part seemed to say Mac was younger than him by 3 or 4 years. I admit it could have just been how I understood it, but I like details to match up. Overall though, this was a nice story, perfect for music fans or fans of friends-to-lovers stories.
This book is about Mackenzie whose life is drastically changed. She turned her back on her old life and just walked away. Now Hunter, who is a famous singer and with who she worked before and who she secretly loved, wants to write an album with her. Will Mackenzie give on or keep running away from all that reminds her of what used to be? This was the first book I read by this author. The pacing was just right and the story flowed well. Overall I thought it was too cheesy and there were severall eyerolling moments for me. Yet I still liked and thought it was a cute story about two friends getting to know each other again and about finding love.
Promise Me You is Marina's first installment of her new series Nashville Heights. This books tells the story of Mackenzie and Hunter. Mackenzie is a songwriter and Hunter is a country music star. They have been friends for years until Hunter marries and Mackenzie walks away. The story cuts to three years later and so much has changed. This is a heartfelt and inspiring story that really makes you think about what you would do and what you take for granted. This is the kind of story you can't put down, but you don't want it to end :) I can't wait to see where this series goes. Totally recommend!
This was ADORABLE yet grounded. I was afraid that Mac would be too frustrating to connect to, but as Adair unfolded her character and her reaction to her blindness, I found myself completely falling for her. Some of their antics were a bit much, but the fact that the secondary characters were annoyed as well made me realize Adair knew they were and I appreciated that.

It's been awhile since Marina Adair has released a new book and let me tell you, this story was worth the wait. So many surprises in store with this one. Without giving away too much let me just say that my heart was broken right along with Mackenzie at the beginning, then it hurt even more when I read what happened to her. But it rejoiced when she and Hunter reunited but they still had a lot of things to work through that I was so worried they wouldn't reach their HEA. It seemed like there were so many insurmountable obstacles in their way but Ms. Adair wrote a wonderfully beautiful story for these two. The growth these two went through, the sexy chemistry, the dialogue between all the characters... overall a very sigh worthy story. Definitely not your regular light and fluffy romance. This had so much more depth. Such a beautiful story.
*I voluntarily read an advance copy of this book*
A great read, one that will envoke all your emotions. The reader cries in the beginning when we learn all the hardships Mackenize has already endured. She lost her mother to the same illness that she just discovered she has. Mackenize does not want to burden anyone with caring for her, so she sets out to do things on her own - even though it scares her. Bordy has kepter her secret for three long years, as both her agent and friend. Hunter's marriage just ended, and he has managed to keep the band together. Hunter wants to work with Mack and Muttley - the premeir song writers in the bussiness, but what he doesn;t know is that Mack is really Mackenize - his writing partner three years ago. Mackenize has always loved Hunter.
Once upon a time Hunter Kane was the most important person in her life, they spent every waking moment with one another creating beautiful music, and she knew then that he was the one for her, but unfortunately he wasn't on the same wavelength... cause he married someone else. And it was then that Mackenzie decided it was time to let him go, completely, even if it meant giving up all she knew, she had to say goodbye, so she walked away on his wedding day and never looked back. Now three years later, he's no longer married, and looking for a writing partner for his new album, and his agent comes calling... but she doesn't think her heart can handle a round two with the country crooner.
In the last three years Hunter has lived through a lot hurt, he lost his best friend, his marriage went down the drain and his wife left him, and now his music career his hanging in the balance. What he really needs is his old writing partner back, he is struggling to create the music for his upcoming album and the one person who he use to be able to turn to when the words wouldn't come deserted him three years ago, and he doesn't have a clue where she went. But there is someone in his life that does, and has a plan up his sleeve to reunite the writing duo, but will they still be the perfect pairing after all these years?
Promise Me You is a breathtakingly beautiful love story that will have you mesmerized from the very first page! This well crafted tale really blew me away, the characters were outstanding, the subject matter packed an intense punch, and the words were drenched in so much emotion... there is no way you can read this one without feeling something. I am no stranger to this author's work, her stories are some of my favorites, but this one is in a whole new class of it's own. It had delicate moments that had me dangling helplessly from her words and struggling to breath, and then joyful happy moments that had me smiling and fighting back happy tears, simply said, it was SO good! If you read one romance book this year, please choose this one, you will be so happy that you did, these wonderful characters will have you feeling the words the whole way through!
I requested an advanced copy of this title from NetGalley, and I am voluntarily leaving my honest opinion.
I absolutely loved this book. It had such strong characters and a compelling story. I literally couldn't put is down, I read it in a day and a very late night! I love all Marina Adair's books. The stories just flow and hold your interests.
I received this ARC in exchange for my honest opinion. This was my first book of Marina Adair ,story about songwritter and musician . Makenzie and Hunter are dream team, they create a wonderfull music from the soul but they also learn from one from another because Mackenzie is blind .I am satisfied with this book,it deserve 3,5 stars for me.Thanks to Net Galley and publisher for this opportunity
Promise Me You by Marina Adair was such a unique story! It is the story of Hunter and Makenzie. Hunter is a musician and Makenzie is a song writer. What makes the story so unique is that Makenzie is blind. I loved the way the writer shared Makenzie's journey of learning to function in a world without her sight. You could totally imagine yourself in Makenzie's shoes. Hunter and Makenzie's love story draws you in right away. You won't want to put this book down once you start!
This was an ARC from NetGalley.
A beautiful story about friendship and second chances, this book doesn’t miss a single opportunity to pull at your emotions. I really enjoyed the plot and the chemistry and relationships between the main characters, as well as the relationships and stories of all the side characters. This isn’t my first Marina Adair book but it’s the first I’ve picked up in a long time, I can’t wait for more of this series.
First I am so happy to read another book by Marina Adair. I love her writing style. Mackenzie is a songwriter that has been in love with Hunter , a singing star, from the start. Hunter goes in another direction and Mackenzie loses her sight. When they met again Mackenzie is trying to forge her independence. Hunter wants to write songs with her. Mackenzie still loves Hunter but is afraid to work with him again. Hunter realizes how special she is to him. Hunter wants to help her navigate into the seeing world. She finally agrees to write music with him. Hunter is falling for her compassionate nurturing nature. I love when Hunter realizes he chooses Mackenzie freely and willingly. It takes awhile but Mackenzie finally realizes she can be independent and also have Hunter in life to share her victories. Mackenzie knows she can take care of her self that does not mean anything if she does not have Hunter to share her life with. They both realize love is journey.
Wow, what a beginning to Marina Adair's new series!
Promise Me You has all the trademarks of a great romance read, but with some interesting twists to the story. At different times both Mackenzie and Hunter broke my heart with their stories and experiences, but then they put it back together again.
The plot is well-paced, and my only wish is that we had gotten to see a little bit more of their friendship prior to the current events in the book.
If you like friends to relationship books, this one is definitely for you!
Sweet and sexy! This was an enjoyable read. It really pulled you in from the very beginning. I loved the unexpected element of a heroine who had tragically gone blind due to a genetic condition. I loved seeing/hearing how she overcomes her obstacles and is an independent woman. I loved hearing her struggles and the fact that she was real. Adair really pulled off a lovely romance novel that kept me smiling the whole way through.
Promise Me You is my first read by Marina Adair, and I’m such a sap for second-chance romance. This is a wonderfully written story that reveals the impact love can have on one’s life and that even when things are dire and less then perfect, the strength and resilience you show in the face of adversity is the true indicator of your character.
Mackenzie Hart is one of those characters; just when things start to look up, life will throw her another curve ball and attempt to break her spirit and determination. Music is where Mackenzie immerses herself when all else seems bleak and unbearable. Hunter Kane has always been Mackenzie’s best friend, but her love for him has remained a close kept secret for many, many years. Hunter was once married to someone else, and even though their working relationship has been nothing but successful, Mackenzie has never attempted to cross the line from business to pleasure.
I thoroughly enjoyed this story and the preference shown to grow and overcome those moments of when the road less travelled could seem so appealing. This is one of those that will resonate with many readers and find a place deep in your heart. Life isn’t always easy, but love really can conquer all.
I received this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. I enjoyed this book a lot. I felt like there should be other books about Hunter’s cousins but I was unable to locate any more Kane books. This book was the story of Mackenzie and Hunter. Hunter is a rock star. They met through Hunter’s family’s restaurant bar when Mackenzie got a job as a waitress to support her mother who had a genetic blindness disorder. Mackenzie started writing songs with Hunter for the band before his marriage. She was always in love with Hunter but at the start of the book he is marrying someone else. We learn that he gets divorced and Mackenzie never saw him again after she escaped from the rehearsal. We learn that she inherits the disorder and goes blind. She struggles to adapt to her new state of being. She gets a service dog who learns with her.Hunter is struggling to get new songs and he wants to work with Mackenzie but he can’t locate her and his agent/cousin tells him he represents her too and she doesn’t want to see him. He tricks her into a meeting. They begin to work together and their feelings become apparent. It is a wonderful romance. Marina does a fabulous job at the character development and the plot. I highly recommend it and I will try some more of her books.
What a great story! Hunter and Mackenzie are given a second chance at love, but it is not a smooth path by any means. This book is emotional, touching, heart-warming, riveting from the very beginning, and did I mention emotional? Excellent read!! I loved it and highly recommend it!
