This was a brilliant read. As soon as I started reading this book I just knew I was going to love it. Highly recommended
Loved this book from start to finish but then I just love all Tilly Tennants books they are so hard to put down. Have read all her books and would definitely recommend anyone who hasn't read any of Tillys books to give them a try as I don't think they will be disappointed and will love them as much as I do.
With The Christmas Wish, readers are taken on a holiday adventure to the Northern Lights and Lapland with a young woman who is honoring her late grandmother’s wish by taking the trip they were meant to take together. I liked Esme and thought she was brave and courageous to go on the trip, knowing it would be difficult not having her grandmother to share it with. I also enjoyed that she finally sees her ex for the creep he is and takes her power back for a change.
I enjoyed meeting the other travelers in Esme’s group and liked the chemistry building between her and Zach as well as some very humorous moments with Hortense, who was equally annoying and fun.
The landscape of Lapland really resonated with me and I commend the author for the excellent job she did of bringing it to life on the page. I got a real sense of the sights, scents and sounds through Esme’s eyes and found it to be quite magical.
My Final Verdict: I found this book to be a good choice for my Christmas holiday reading and recommend it to readers who are looking for happy conclusions and enjoy an adventure when it comes calling.
Esme Greenwood comes back together with her controlling and cheating ex-boyfriend after her grandmother surprisingly died. She then finds out that her grandma bought them a trip to Lapland as a Christmas gift. When her boyfriend doesn't want to join her, Esme decides to travel alone.
I was really excited about the Lapland setting and couldn't wait for the journey to start. Rovaniemi made a really nice setting, but to be honest I was hoping for a bit more wintery and Christmassy descriptions. It was nice enough to get an impression of Santa's city but there could have been more.
I did enjoy the story but it was also a bit slow at times and there wasn't much progress. At some parts I was hoping for a bit more action but with other part the slow progress was perfectly fine.
I liked Esme although I couldn't understand all of her decisions, especially about Warren who must be the biggest idiot walking on earth. Zach was also a nice character but remained a bit shallow for my liking, there was more potential in him.
The ending was pretty cute and as I enjoyed the story overall, I am looking forward to more books by the author.
It’s a sweet story that will certainly get any reader in the mood for the season of giving. It was a very quick read that is ideal with a cuppa and a wintery view.
I really enjoyed this book. It made me want to visit lapland. Put you right into the spirit and magic of Christmas.
Tilly Tennant books never fail to pull you in to the characters and heartwarming story lines.
This book got straight into the drama which really helped me get invested quickly. Reading it in the summer was a little strange at first, but I didn't notice after a while as I got sucked into the magic of winter. It's a sad book, but really uplifting. The descriptions of Lapland really bring your imagination to life and I really loved reading her reconnection to her family and the love story was really sweet. A really fantastic read with a lovely happy ending.
This is a good modern fiction story set during Christmas. We visit Lapland where romance blossoms between Esme and Zach. Can they become a couple? Read on!
This book reminded me of a cozy warm Hallmark Christmas movie which I love! It had all the elements I look forward to in a holiday story -- Mr. Wrong, Mr. Right, and a personal journey for the main character.
A wonderful, festive read perfect for reading it during the Christmas season or even when it's Spring but you miss Christmas so much that you want to capture a little bit of its magic! I adored the description of Santa's village and made me want to travel to see it myself! A heart-warming read!
I am a fan of Tilly’s books and although we are now in March I was looking forward to reading this Christmas book. However, something strange happened which hasn’t happened with one of her books before, which was that I didn’t like the main character all that much. Esme is the leading lady and don’t get me wrong I didn’t dislike her as such, I just hated the fact that for the first half of the book she seemed like such a weak doormat and I just didn’t like it.
When she finally takes a risk following the death of her Grandmother by going to Lapland, I thought we may see an instant turn in her but it took much longer. The story was fun and so easy to read. Esme meets up with three other solo travellers Zach, Hortense, and Brian. Now Hortense and Brian were brilliant and I loved them as characters. I also liked Zach but…mmmm…I just can’t quite explain it.
Like I say this wasn’t a bad book but I just couldn’t warm to the character enough and as such couldn’t warm to Zach either. The lovely descriptions of Lapland were great and I enjoyed the story overall, but this hasn’t been one of my favourites by Tilly just because of those things. I will as always look forward to her next book which thankfully is out in a few weeks (see details below).
When Esme finds that her controlling fiance Warren has been cheating on her she runs away to her beloved grandmother in the Peak District, her grandmother tries to set her on the right path and books a holiday for them to Lapland at Christmas. Then tragedy strikes and her grandmother dies, distraught Esme returns to Warren who is promising to change his ways! The holiday is booked and when Warren refuses to go Esme goes alone to honour her grandmother and meets some new friends including the gorgeous Zach......... but will she be able to escape the clutches of Warren especially when he turns up in Lapland to bring her home!
Another enjoyable book by this author, I loved the descriptions of Lapland and the friends that she made there but did struggle a bit with the main character Esme as I just had wanted to shake her!
Loved this book. No idea why it took me so long to read it. I'm really close to my grandmother so it got a little personal for me but I loved this book. I loved the characters - I love how the story progressed and where it went. It was fairly predictable but it was warm and fuzzy and sweet and lovely and I wanted to hug all the characters (except Warren) and be besties with Hortense! It was a lovely Christmas story and I found this book very hard to put down. I definitely give it a 5/5!
A lovely festive read that really got me in the Christmas mood. I could picture Lapland all around me as I read. Tilly brought joy for me this Christmas.
Completely charming and captivating. Perfect for the festive period. Really fun to read and would recommend to others
I loved this book and it made me want to read more by the same author. The whole family issues in this story made for a very realistic and interesting tale. Obviously, the reader ends up rooting for the family to have a great happy ever after and for Esme to definitely fall for the right man to make her happy. A wonderful story that made me want to go see the northern lights myself.
This is such a perfect Christmas read. Actually no, scratch that, it's a perfect anytime read. I loved how she describes everything, it was like I was actually in Lapland and little Dove Morton. I felt for the characters- all of them, which of not an easy feat on my case. I don't even know what else to say, I just really loved it!
As usual Tilly has not failed to impress.....her description of the beautiful Lapland resort made me feel like I was there and could visualise all the snowy scenery and has made me want to visit.
Even though it was set in December, it wasn’t overly Christmassy and it would be possible to read it any time of the year and enjoy it.
I thoroughly recommend this book, in fact all the books by Tilly Tennant are just so lovely. With both happy moments and sad moments it's (like all her others) the perfect heart-warming story........are we going to get a follow-up for Esme & Zach??????
Esme is picking up the pieces of her broken heart, having escaped are cheating, emotionally abusive and controlling fiancee Warren. Living with her Grandmother slowly she begins to find herself again and feels like things might finally be starting to look up, until the unthinkable happens and her Grandmother dies suddenly. A grieving Esme falls back into Warren's arms but soon releases he was full of empty promises and hasn't changed at all. Esme's Grandmother was planning to surprise with a Christmas holiday to Lapland, Warren sees it a a reward for leaving him in the first place so refuses to go. Will Esme decide to honour her Grandmother and go without me?
I have conflicting emotions about this novel, there were parts I loved and some parts I really didn't. Esme is weak-willed throughout most of the novel, obviously that is the point. But the copious excuses she makes for Warren's absurd behaviour are a bit ridiculous and long drawn out, especially after the intervention of her Grandmother and her parents. It was also hard to believe a character like this would suddenly become brave enough to take a trip to Lapland alone.
Having said that I loved the rest of the story, deciding to visit Lapland Esme gets in touch with three other people travelling alone, the characters she meets are hilarious, with depth and of course one of them its truly handsome. The idyllic land of Christmas wishes provides the perfect escape and together they enjoying, wondering Christmas markets, seeing Santa (you are never too old) and of course seeing the Northern Lights. They are having a fabulous time, until Warren turns up to take Esme home... Will she be strong enough to resist him this time with the help of her new found friends? Can she learn from previous heartbreak?
Thanks to NetGalley & Bookouture for sending me this in exchange for an open and honest review.
A feel good romance that is full of real life angst. I enjoyed this book - the characters were well rounded and thought out and the story line was a little better thought out than the usual girl meets boy.
