Ten years ago a seventeen year old girl named Nora goes missing. All that was found was her car, with an empty gas tank, not far from her family's lake house. Her body was never found and she never returned either. Ten years to the exact day, her younger sister Noelle (Elle) is found murdered not far from where Nora's car was abandoned. Maddie, one of Nora's best friends, still deals with the grief over not having closure from Nora's disappearance and makes it her mission to find out once and for all not only what happened to Nora but who killed Elle as well. The police aren't necessarily convinced the two cases are connected, but all of Nora's family and friends vehemently believe this.
This book was off to a great start. The pace and tone was perfect, and I had my suspicions of who the killer was, but I hadn't quite figured out what became of Nora. I like being surprised in mysteries, I don't usually enjoy figuring out the answer too early in advance as it kind of kills the book for me, so that aspect was great. What I did not like, and the reason for the 3 stars, is the fact I thought that what happened to Nora was completely absurd and unbelievable. I can NOT believe the police wouldn't have thought to dredge the lake NEAR HER LAKE HOUSE when they could not find a body!!! That baffles me.
Aside from this, this was an expertly crafted suspense that I really enjoyed for the most part!
I received a copy of this book via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
Forget Me Not has way to many characters to keep track of, and all the nicknames in the story are very juvenile. I had to double check that this wasn’t a young adult title, because it was very high school & unrealistic. Police sharing info with their old classmate was far fetched and a little Nancy Drew-ish.
The story moves along at a snails pace, and the ending was very predicable and felt rushed. Good attempt from the author, and the storyline should have worked, but I was disappointed with childish writing
This was a pretty good book at the beginning but towards the middle and end it lost some of its interesting story line. Thank you for allowing me the opportunity to read this book.
This book was neither good nor bad. The premise is brilliant and the reveal at the end was beautifully done. However, the characters are a bit one-sided and it reads like most “whodunnit” novels out there.
This book was ok. I got through half before stopping due to loss of interest. The characters were dull and I felt like I had read a million other books like this that had done it better.
I just could not get away with this. It was well written but it was very slow and meandering and not gripping in the slightest. I ended up skim reading it as I like to know what happens when I’ve started a book but I was not remotely invested in any of the characters or the outcome. Thanks to Harper Collins, Netgalley and the author for an advanced copy in exchange for an honest review I’m only sorry it couldn’t be more positive.
3.5/5 stars
Full review to follow - a slower burn thriller than I was expecting but still a solid suspense read!
Thankyou to NetGalley, Harper Impulse and Killer Reads and the author, A M Taylor, for the opportunity to read a digital copy of Forget Me Not in exchange for an honest and unbiased opinion.
I thought the storyline was well written and intriguing. There were plenty of twists and turns that kept me hooked. Was a really good read.
I absolutely loved this book!! A fast paced suspenseful read!! The tale of teenage obsession mixed with the murder of two sisters!! If I could give this book 10 stars then I definitely would!!
I enjoyed it. Very suspensful. I know I cant live without my best friend so I can understand why she kept looking for her best friend all these years. Hope to read more by the author.
This book was well written. This is the first book I have read from this author and was pleasantly surprised how good it was. I felt for The main character but sometime hated her. I would definitely recommend this book for a quick easy read.
I was so disappointed as I was looking forward to reading this book but I am afraid that I found it so slow, lacking any suspense or tension. I just couldn’t get into it, sorry but not the book for me.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for giving me the opportunity to read and review this book.
Amazing, amazing!!
This is definitely one of those books that you will not want to put down. This is my first novel by A.M. Taylor and I am so happy that I was able to read one of these stories! I love a good suspense and thriller novel... a must read!
What happened to Nora ??
Nora went missing 10 years ago and her best friend Maddie simply can’t let it go. Now Nora’s sister is missing and everything and everyone are under suspicion again.
For most of the book nothing happened in the present and the story floats back to the past and retells what happened the night Nora went missing from different points of view, including Nora herself. It gave me the impression that nothing was happening and made the novel feel very slow. The little bit of foreshadowing did let me guess who did it but I was happy with the ending. I flew through this book cause I really needed to know who did it !!
Can’t wait to see more books from A.M. Taylor. Solid first book.
When Maddie was 17, her best friend Nora disappeared without a trace, leaving a gaping hole in Maddie's heart. Ten years later on the anniversary of Nora's disappearance, her younger sister is found dead in the same spot where Nora's car was found. Maddie has been consumed with finding out what happened with Nora and how that her sister has been murdered, Maddie does everything in her power to find out who murdered Nora's sister and what happened to Nora. A.M. Taylor has written a suspenseful novel that was truly un-put-downable. When I was not reading, I was constantly thinking about what happened to Nora and who killed Nora's sister. I'm typically fairly good at figuring out the ending of novels like these, but the ending of 'Forget Me Not' took me by total surprise. I look forward to reading more from A.M. Taylor!
A. Brilliant debut from a promising writer. The myster surrounding the disappearance of one sister and the ultimate murder of another was well executed and the suspense built at a good pace until the ultimate unveiling of the murderer.
Nora disappeared; 10years later on the anniversary of her death, her sister, Elle is murdered. What's going on with this family, in this small town? Nora and Elle"s brother, Mate, is charged with killing Elle and the disappearance of Nora.
Nora"s best friend, Maddison, has never gotten over Nora"s death. Mads is looking for Elle"s killer and Nora"s "kidnapper". What will she find?
Thanks to netgalley for the advanced reader copy.
Forget Me Not by A.M. Taylor is a psychological thriller.
First, let me thank NetGalley, the publishers Harper Impulse/Killer Reads, and of course the author, for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.
My Synopsis:
10 years have passed, and there are still no answers. 10 years since Nora went missing. The 17-year old’s car was found, but Nora was not. Her family and friends have not had closure. Her best friend, Maddie, has not really moved on. Nothing has gone right for Maddie since Nora disappeared.
On the anniversary of Nora’s disappearance, 17-year old Noelle is found murdered in the exact location where Nora went missing. Noelle (Elle) is Nora’s younger sister. Noelle is the same age as Nora was when she disappeared. Too many coincidences.
Maddie’s already fragile state of mind goes into overdrive, and she starts trying to track a murderer, hoping that she will also find out what really happened to Nora. She may find more than she wants.
My Opinions:
First, as a debut novel, this was really good.
The story is told through a number of different avenues. Both Maddie’s current thoughts and her memories play a big role, but so do social media and the press coverage.
Although there were some early clues as to the perpetrator, the motive did not surface until close to the end, and meanwhile there were other possible culprits thrown in. The suspense built rather slowly, but the read was interesting.
The writing is good, the plot was interesting, and most of the characters had depth. I am looking forward to read whatever A.M. Taylor comes up with next!
This one really hooked me in from the beginning. About 3/4 of the way through I thought I had figured it out - but - nope! I enjoyed the switching from present to the past. I look forward to seeing more from this author in the future....
Where did her best friend go?
When Maddie met Nora she felt as if she'd known her forever. Their friendship was her life line. So when Nora went missing, Maddie felt her whole world crumble.
Ten years later, Maddie is still searching for Nora and meeting with her family for an annual remembrance party...but the gatherings have gotten uncomfortable and feel somehow meaningless. Then Nora's little sister is found in the exact spot where Nora was last seen.
Maddie doesn't think it's a coincidence and she is determined to uncover the truth, even if it kills her.
