A Cowboy’s Kiss is a slow burning, friends to more, character driven romance that is emotional and will bring out the laughter, the tears and the happy endings we all love so much. Anna and Roman knew of each other since they attended the same school yet they ran in far different circles. Anna was the stereotypical quiet, shy librarian and never ever looked for anything for free or beyond her reach – in any sense of those words. Roman came from a well to do ranching family yet he found his calling in the medical world and helped out on the ranch. In the usual course of life their paths might never have crossed or only slightly and quickly forgotten… right up until the night of an accident that changed lives.
I don’t believe you can walk away from A Cowboy’s Kiss without becoming emotionally attached to Anna and Roman… especially Anna. His watching over her as she is in the coma and his being there for her during the recovery of her injuries speaks volumes of the feelings he has for her, even if they aren’t fully defined in his head and heart yet. Anna has been raised believing that hope for something more, something better is simply beyond reach for her. Her Grandmother’s words laid a strong foundation of never expecting anything more than what you have now, of never, ever asking for help and never believing you are worth anyone’s attention. Roman’s tender care for her, his offering of at least friendship and perhaps more opens doors that Anna is not used to walking through. Watching Anna grow, believe, and truly bloom is an emotional and wondrous experience.
If you love retellings then you’d recognize a bit of Sleeping Beauty here… but nonetheless, A Cowboy’s Kiss is a charming, emotional romance of two people who belong they simply have to make that discovery and be willing to take the risks that loving someone else involves.
*I received an e-ARC of this novel from the publisher via NetGalley. That does not change what I think of this story. It is my choice to leave a review giving my personal opinion about this book.*
This is a good sweet read but it had a couple of issues as well. First the writing is good although I did feel like the story was drawn out and repetitive. It's sweet and relatively angst free so what's left is a story that while cute has no bite. Next problem - there's no cowboy so I just don't get title. I know this has no bearing on the story but it still bugs me. There's a doctor and a coma patient who wakes and can't remember anything about the accident that landed her in the office - but no cowboy in sight. The characters are strong and well developed but honestly by the end of the book I was ready for it to be over.
Sweet, Romantic and Tragic...Dr. Roman McQueen knew her in high school but when she comes through the ER in a Coma after a tragic accident, he sits with her in his off time a read's to her. Yet, he didn't anticipate that by doing that and helping her through her recovery that he would fall for her.
Anna Kenner a Librarian in the small town of Logan Springs is alone in the world and has the demons of her past haunting her head. She falls for the handsome Doctor but just knows it won't work so she keeps him at arm's length, Can she overcome the mistakes of her Grandmother and Mother to really grab happiness?
A Cowboy’s Kiss by Trish Milburn
Once Upon a Western #2
Amnesia after a car accident left Anna Kenner in a coma for over a week. During that week Dr. Roman McQueen felt compelled to be with her so she would not be a lone and thus began his nightly reading aloud to her until one day she awoke…without the kiss Sleeping Beauty required. Never having really known one another before the accident they find themselves interested at first as friends and then later as more.
This is a sweet love story that grows slowly with a HEA for the two of them that finally occurs when Roman realizes it is safe to dream of a future and Anna realizes the truths she had drummed into her head by her grandmother could and would be left behind.
Did I enjoy this book? Yes
Is it a book I would reread? Probably not
Is the hero a cowboy? No, he’s a doctor that helps out on the family ranch
Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC – This is my honest review.
3-4 Stars
I was provided with an advanced copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. The following is my honest opinion after reading this book in its entirety.
While not all romance books need to be steamy, this one is so far from steamy that it took others characters from the story to convince Anna and Roman that they liked each other. It was an okay story but I kept expecting more to happen. Some of the vocabulary that the author used was more complex than was necessary for a simple Montana romance.
There were so many side stories that are left open - like the guy that ran Anna off the road or stole her belongings while she was in the hospital.
Roman was a doctor not a cowboy - he barely helped out on his family’s ranch.
There is slow burn, than there is boring. Unfortunately, I found this book down right boring. Like the book never seemed to pick up after the coma, boring.
I never felt any real heat between the characters or much attraction even. Plus, Roman is not a cowboy, at all. Having a hat and riding a horse doesn't make you a cowboy.
Both characters are likable and the secondary characters are likable as well. This book just never managed to get off the ground for me.
I totally enjoyed reading The Cowboy’s Kiss by Trish Milburn. This was an emotional story involving librarian Anna and Roman a doctor, who attended school together. Anna had been in a horrible car accident which left her in a coma for a week. Roman spent his evenings reading a mystery to her, hoping it would let her know she was not alone, despite having no family. When Anna wakes and begins the long process of recovery, Roman is often by her side helping her, trying to be just a friend but he can’t help notice her kindness, quiet wit, and delicate beauty. He starts thinking that someday maybe they can have more. Quiet and independent Anna does not like asking for help but having Roman helping during her recovery, Anna starts thinking differently about Roman, hoping there could be a future for them. The biggest obstacle is Anna herself as she struggles to get past the words drummed into her by her grandmother; don’t wish; don’t aim higher; don’t expect good things to happen. I was so happy to see Roman not give up on breaking through Anna’s walls, showing her his love and the love of the town.
Ms. Milburn wrote a wonderfully sweet and moving story that is not to be missed. It had me laughing, crying and everything in between. This story is filled with sexual attraction, fun dialogue, and endearing characters. I highly recommend this book to other readers and look forward to the next book in the series.
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.
A Cowboy’s Kiss is a modern day Sleeping Beauty story. Roman and Anna are very likable characters that had me anxiously awaiting a HEA ending. This is the first book in a new series. I look forward to reading the next book in this series.
A Cowboy's Kiss is a sweet contemporary take on the Sleeping Beauty fairytale. Trish Milburn gives the reader a dashing cowboy doctor and a shy librarian heroine. After an accident there is a period of recovery and rehab which cause these two to stay in contact there at the hospital. So not instant lust or love but a more natural progression of friendship to love, I enjoyed this.
The characters are likable but let their doubts rule over their hearts at times. The pacing is smooth and normal which is the way it could happen in life. The second in the Once Upon a Western Series, it read well on its own. The couple from the first book make an appearance, which is nice to see. However, this story is complete and self-contained.

A sweet story about two people coming from very different families while living and growing up in the same town. She is the librarian, he the doctor. She is in a car accident and ends up in a coma. He takes care of her and through her recovery, they both heal each other.
On the surface you think you’re reading a story about small town life featuring local librarian Anna and local doctor Roman. But it is so much more. This story is about a woman handicapped emotionally from birth due to the narrow-mindedness of the grandmother who raised her. It keeps her from admitting to the love she feels not just for Roman but for her friends, too. Through the physical and mental injuries she has to overcome, she realizes how strong she really is.
Great story line and characters, Awesome !! Loved this book. The storyline was so interesting that it had me turning pages in anticipation of where it would lead . I was very intrigued with the characters in the story. Simply awesome . Definitely recommend this book to anyone looking for a great read. I would recommend to others. Worth the read and the money!

A Cowboy's Kiss by Trish Milburn, a heart-warming story. I enjoyed the characters especially Roman and Anna. I enjoyed the development of storyline between these characters. Book two in The Once Upon a Western series. I look forward to seeing what the future books in this series brings to us.
A Cowboy's Kiss by Trish Milburn was a sweet romance with likeable characters and a good storyline. I liked this story, there was a disconnect at times but not enough to stop what I felt was a good Sunday read.
A Cowboy’s Kiss is a sweet romance and a quick and easy read. An unfortunate injury puts Anna in hospital and under Rowan’s watchful medical eye. So when Rowan realises he’s actually known Anna since elementary school, he’s determined to be the friend she needs through her recovery. The story had a good plot and the characters were likeable enough, but I did feel that our hero wasn’t really that overwhelmed with undying love for Anna, and that he was more in a supportive role; this left me a little disappointed. Overall, it was a good story, but lacking passion and romantic depth.
A quick read and I'm glad I read about this cowboy. A well written perfectly paced story pulling you in from the start. As struggles go Anna has more than her share and a coma puts her in the hospital where Roman who had known her since elementary school realize that she needs a close friend to help recover. Both Anna and Roman grew up in a small town but with different family life styles. You cannot go wrong in reading this story and I cannot wait for the next one to come out.
A COWBOY'S KISS by TRISH MILBURN is truly a wonderful romantic story! Girl awakes from coma, falls in love with HOT DOCTOR! It's a well written story with some warm caring characters. I will definitely be looking for more from this author.
Roman, although not her doctor, is drawn to Anna who is in a coma. He remembers her from school, and feels bad that she has no family to visit her, so he stops in daily and reads to her. When she finally wakes up he is there, and he is a welcome sight to her. She cannot remember the accident, but does know basics. Working with the Physical Therapist, she slowly begins to recover, and Roman is there to help. A good story, and it is nice to see Justin and Melody there too, as I enjoyed that story as well. Lots more brothers, so expect more stories to come. Highly recommend this book and author and series.
Ultimately I could not get invested in this story, the romance, the outcome, etc. I kept making notes as I read that it felt very bland, lukewarm. I didn't see why everyone loved Anna so much. Not saying she was unlikable, but I didn't feel like the author adequately showed her personality. There was such a focus on her coma, memory loss, and job that there was minimal development of her as a character. Too much telling, as in telling us everyone loved her rather than show WHY they let her her. Roman falls in love with her - why? I didn't get it. It seemed like the romance didn't fit and was boring.
This was a wonderful story. It is book 2 in a series about several brothers who live and run a ranch in Montana. This story is the brother doctors story, Roman and a girl he grew up with is in a Coma. He knows she does not have family so he starts visiting her and reading to her.
Anna finally wakes up but she wakes with a fight on getting back to herself and Roman becomes a good friend who helps her out. They both develope feelings but they each have some issues they need resolve before they can be together.
I truly loved the writing, the characters and the plot of this story.
