This was my first visit to Willow Tree Hall and I have to say that I loved every minute of my time spent in this gorgeous pocket of the world. The setting was simply gorgeous and the rural atmosphere added charm and style to the story. But even though this is the third installment in this series I didn't once feel that I was left on the back foot as the writing was warm and inviting leaving me feeling like I was spending time catching up with old friends.
Skye was the perfect character to pick up and place in this setting with her purple hair and hippie style to offset the rustic charms seen on the Earl of Cranley's estate. We first meet Skye at a crossroads in her life, so used to looking after everyone else and putting the needs of others first she is now in a lonely place wanting security, romance and a dream to believe in, she is just the easiest of characters to fall in love with. Skye and Will's relationship gets off to a complicated start in the form of an Aston Martin and a gamekeeper's lodge but like Skye, Will is also at a turning point in life sparking new but not unwanted ideas about his future. Their chemistry is electric and feisty at times, due to stubborn natures but it was pure joy to witness a new and exciting relationship simmer gently beneath the surface ensuring a need to read on to see if they would get their perfect ending.
A Way Back Home is like being wrapped up in a big cosy blanket on a cold winter's night. It's heartwarming and filled with love from start to finish. I'm off now to find the previous books in this series to prolong my stay at Willow Tree Hall for that little bit longer.
Skye and Summer are sisters and Skye started looking after Summer when their mum left around the time she was 11 or 12. Norman, an elderly gentleman took them in as he rented rooms in his house. They are shocked when he dies. He leaves Summer a classic book collection and Skye an Airstream trailer. She learns she has inherited half of a lodge on the Willow Tree Hall estate and meets the dry-humoured, serious irritating stuck up Will who lived and worked in the Alps. I did not really warm to him for some time and did not like the way he saw himself as superior.
I did like Skye and her positive gutsy attitude. She was a bit of a people pleaser at times with not wanting to put Will's family out and accept their offer to sleep in the Hall but she knew what she wanted. I liked her visions for the Lodge before her bubble burst and she found out she only had a part share in it.
A well-paced book with some characters from the previous book. Good to be back at Willow Tree Hall. 4 stars. Great pace, flow descriptions and characterisation.
Thanks to Alison Sherlock and Aria for my ARC in exchange for an honest and voluntary review.
There’s just something about the whole concept of “lost souls find each other at Christmas” that does it for me every single time. If that concept is executed as beautifully as was the case here? Well, that’s just me done for, isn’t it?
From the get-go, Alison Sherlock manages to set the tone just right for Skye as she makes her way to Willow Tree Hall. Having cared for her sister almost her entire life, Skye now finds herself needing to figure out what exactly she wants to do. Will, having run away from his family for about as long, finds himself in about the same predicament: what to do with his life – and how to do it?
Whether these two’s respective (surrogate-)grand parents had a sort of magical hinge of how much Skye and Will would need each other and balance each other out, or whether this was just a matter of providence taken to the extreme? The lodge of Willow Tree Hall certainly has its work cut out for it.
With its beautiful descriptions, thoughtful character development and dual point of view that gives this entire book just the right amount of “will they, won’t they”, this was probably one of the most enjoyable reads I’ve had in months. Perfect to be consumed with a Christmas tree’s lights blinking in the background!
Rating: 4/5
This is a first for me by this author... but certainly not my last.
I didn't realise this was book 3 of a series and will now be looking for the first two in the series to catch up.
What happens when two lost souls find themselves? After recent heartbreak, Skye Jackson finds herself homeless and on the road with only a classic Airstream trailer to her name. A surprise inheritance of a rundown little lodge in the grounds of beautiful Willow Tree Hall forces her to change her plans. However there is a problem... The lodge is co-owned by care-free, playboy Will Harris, who finds himself unemployed after a recent tabloid scandal. Syke desperately wants a home to call her own and needs to move on as quickly as possible. Will doesn’t want to stay at his family home either to face the ghosts of his past. So they decide to put aside their differences and renovate the cottage together. But when a storm hits, Skye and Will are forced to stay on to ensure that an important wedding goes ahead. Can Skye finally find a home of her own? Can Will stop running from his past and help out his family when they need him the most? The magic of winter at Willow Tree Hall is about to change everything...
An amazing heart-warming story of healing, finding love, learning to trust and being home.
Romance with magical surprises in this festive read.
A good book to snuggle down with on these colder, darker, winter nights.
I look forward to reading more of Alison's work.
Thank-You Netgalley for my ARC.
I thoroughly enjoyed this. I was swept back into the Willow Tree Hall fold like a long lost family member. Skye crashes in on the Hall on the way to start a new life with her sister. Will is back at the family home after a public disgrace and is facing up to some demons. Throw in a few classified along the way and a great gale is told. Lovely to see old characters and an update on their story but also to meet new personalities. A great big cuddle in a book! More Willow Tree Hall please!!
Skye inherits half a lodge house, Will thought it was his and is not happy to share. Will has a chip on his shoulder about love and marriage and has a reputation in the media as a playboy and happy to keep in that way.
Skye has been a surrogate mum to her little sister and now she is alone she doesn’t know what to do. Will has a loving family but usually keeps well away, Skye yearns for what Will has and is it possible that Will realises that maybe he was wrong about not settling down.
This is a story about learning to trust in love and realising that love really is all around you. Immerse yourself in this wonderful story and believe that fairytale endings really do happen!
This is the third instalment in the Willow Tree Hall series and the first one I am reading. Well, the other characters from previous books play a major role but that cannot be considered as a hurdle to consider this as a pretty well-written stand-alone story. Skye and Will make an ideal pair and I completely loved the ending. The Willow Tree Hall is going to be decked for some enchanting weddings here.
Skye, with her fiercely independent spirit and amazing upcycling abilities, will capture any reader's heart. Being the eldest daughter, she takes the role to educate her younger sister as her irresponsible and reckless mother wander around. A disturbingly selfless soul with impressive artistic talents, one could not but love her.
In spite of his playboy nature which effectively hides his wounded heart Will has a noble heart which is slowly unwrapped during his stay in the Hall. He is reluctant to call this his home now but Skye's rejuvenating presence triggers the healing process and there begins the journey for a happily ever after life.
An amazing story of healing, finding love and finally being back home. An energising read with the festive spirit, wedding bells and a heartwarming end, this will surely be a good pick for winter nights.
Skye has spent most of her life seeing that her sister is given every opportunity, and found them both a pseudo-grandfather in Norman. With Norman’s death and settling his estate, and her sister off to start her residency in Liverpool, Skye is taking all of her belongings and the renovated airstream trailer from Norman and heading out of London to start anew with Summer. But, a diversion in the form of a letter sends her to meet Arthur at Willow Tree Hall, to get something more from Norman. Arriving with a literal bang, by landing her trailer on the bonnet of Will’s Aston Martin, she’s arrived to find that the Estate Manager’s lodge, or half of it, has been left to her by Norman.
Will is Sam’s younger brother, the “spare” and has reveled in the lifestyle of unencumbered heirs for generations. Flitting through places to live, women and most recently the focus of the tabloids after his affair with the wife of an MP went viral, he’s back at Willow Tree Hall for a short stay. Soon it will be time for Sam and Annie’s wedding, and while Will isn’t a believer in commitments or love, he’s happy for his brother. There is just a few things holding him back: realizing that no one expects him to be helpful is the second blow after losing his job managing the construction of luxury villas in the Alps. The next is finding out the lodge, that he always believed was his is now only ‘half’ his, and this strange person with purple hair who always enters with an apology and is kind to him even at his worst, he’s thrown.
But a sprained ankle combines with the welcoming faces of Annie, Rose and Arthur at the hall, and Skye is soon dragged into the family, a first for her – real friends, some security and a family – all missing in her life. When a massive storm hits, and major repairs threaten not only Sam and Annie’s wedding but the Christmas Faire, flattening the community hall and stretching tight budgets beyond their limits, it’s Skye’s ability to make something from nothing, upcycling and working without much money that saves the day. From elbow grease, paint and some refinished pieces the lodge is cleaned up and modernized, ready to rent out to contribute to the hall’s upkeep, to stepping in and designing Annie’s wedding reception, to cleaning the paintings in the ballroom, Skye’s input is invaluable. Even to Will, who starts to open up to her as she’s not judging, just listening, and is able, after a chat with Rose, to correct a long-standing mistaken impression that has fueled his beliefs and lack of commitment since before his parents’ death.
Like all of the stories in this series, the people and their open-arms to support, shelter, and share the challenges and the successes, the laughter and openness that brings light and life into the hall and to the story. Skye’s increased confidence and enjoyment when she is allowed to do what she loves instead of struggling to pay bills so Summer can go to school and follow her dreams is a wonderful benefit for an estate that is working on a shoestring, and finally Will’s acceptance of her, and his realization that his world will be forever changed with two simple words males this a lovely and heartwarming story, and a perfect fit for the series.
I received an eArc copy of the title from the publisher via NetGalley for purpose of honest review. I was not compensated for this review: all conclusions are my own responsibility.

I'll admit it upfront that I'm probably, no scratch that, definitely, a little bit biased. I originally got sent the 2nd book in this series, loved it so much that I went and bought the 1st book in the series myself, and promptly screamed when I saw this on NetGalley and requested it immediately.
It's safe to say that I loved it. I have loved how warm and inviting the Willow Tree Hall series has been, and each pairing has steadfastly been enjoyed. And Skye and Will were certainly not an exception.
I personally found these 2 to be a good match. Both obviously struggled with their own personal issues, but more importantly, they found solace and love in each other. Although they hated each other in the beginning, it's clear to see that they truly ended up better.
This was such an enjoyable novel, one with many points where I was absolutely swooning and dying. And that's a very good thing.
A major congratulations to Alison on a great book and an even greater series. I'm sad to see it end...
NB: I received an ARC of this novel from Netgalley and the publisher in exchange for an honest review. This has not in any way influenced my review and all thoughts expressed are my own.
My favourite kind of story , left me wanting more and feeling good. What more can I ask for. Now I,m off to find other books from the series.
I really enjoyed this book. Its the sort of story that leaves you with that warm feeling. Its full of delightful characters. I will review on goodreads and amazon.
A nice romantic comedy about finding joy in life. A story to take you out of the everyday. I enjoyed it while reading it but it wasn't unforgettable. I wanted to love it more but it just didn't move me enough. I could, however, see others really enjoying it and I would still recommend it.
Skye has been caring for her younger sister, Summer, since she was 11 or 12 years old. Their mother disappeared. But, the girls were fortunate enough to live with Norman. Norman was an elderly man who rented rooms in his home. When he developed more health issues, Skye took care of him along with her sister.
Norman has died and left his books to Summer. Skye, has inherited his beloved Airstream trailer. He also left a letter telling her to go to Willow Tree Hall where he has another surprise for her.
It seems she owns half of a lodge. It needs work and it comes with the owner of the other half of the lodge, Will. Will is part of the family who own Willow Tree Hall. There is the elderly earl, his sister, and Sam, the future earl and Will's older brother, along with Sam's fiancee, Annie. This is a family.
Will has lived a life away from his family, but conditions have now brought him home, at least for a time. He has been a playboy in the eyes of the tabloids. He has moved from place to place, because that is what he liked. He has kept himself away.
When Skye accidentally parks her Airstream on top of his Aston Martin, Will does not become a fan of Skye. But, the rest of the family are delighted to have Skye there for as long as she would like to stay.
Slowly, Skye gets an up close and personal view of family life. She is reminded of her past and all the things which were never a part of her life. She was not allowed to be anything but a caregiver. She never learned to be comfortable making choices which would give her joy. Basically, she has no knowledge of joy.
Will has grown up with his grandfather. Because of the loss of his parents, Will has kept himself separate from anyone, including his family. He has not invested his time or his money to help keep the estate in the black. Now, things are not going well financially.
This is a lovely holiday story. Yes, things fall into place more easily than they would in real life. But, this is not real life, it is a charming story about hope, learning to trust and to love.
Skye and Will are really terrific people who have put their lives on the wrong tracks. Each of them are capable of living lives which are much more than they have allowed.
There is humor , character as well as heart in the story. Both the main characters as well as secondary characters add wonderful depth to the plot. The family members are supportive and caring.
This is part of a series and I have not read any of the earlier books. I had no problem understanding events and relationships. Ms Sherlock has done a good job of providing the reader with a good path to follow.
We see love blossom between 2 individuals. But there is also love of family and love between friends. The texture of the story is filled with warmth.
Ms Sherlock is a new author for me. I have enjoyed this story very much. I will look for more of her books.
I received this book from the publisher through NetGalley. I am voluntarily writing this review and all opinions are completely my own.
I received A Way Back Home by Alison Sherlock as an ARC from NetGalley. I really enjoyed the book and the relationship between Skye and Will. I also loved the other characters as well. This was a well written romantic comedy and I'm looking forward to reading the other books in this series.
I was lucky enough to get an ARC of this book, and I have to say, out of the three books in this series, this one has to be my favourite. I loved the characters of Skye and Will, and to watch both of them overcome their insecurities and doubt they have for themselves and open up to new possibilities was really quite wonderful.
It was great to catch up with Annie and Sam, and the other characters as well.
Really loved this book, would highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys reading 📖
*I was given an ARC by the publisher via netgalley in exchange for an honest review*
Skye and Will each inherit half of a derelict lodge through some unusual circumstances. hostilities ensue (initially), but over the course of renovating the lodge, they fall for each other. HEA guaranteed............................rather seemed to drag on though and was not my cup of tea.
Skye Jackson never really had a home to call her own.ALways the big sister and looking out for others, she finds herself in her only home left;an Airstream little trailor ,after her adopted grandfather passes away..
She has to go to a place called Willow Tree Halls to claim an inheritance that her grandfather left her in a letter.
Along her way there, a storm and a sprained ankle forces her to remain longer at Willow Tree land, with a sorrowful selfish playboy who also owns half her lodge she inherited.
Everyone is charming and caregiving towards her except Will. He isnt used to giving of himself. to others..but slowly, his ways begin to change,as is his heart for Skye Jackson.
He realizes his life has passed him by and he can be happier if he found the right girl that could change his selfish
partying ways.
When WIllow Tree Hall embarks financial ruin, Will steps in to help ,first in the selling of his expensive car,to help upkeep the lodge and help his family keep Willow Tree Hall.
His creative ideas also bring in money for the cottages. Skye's artistic talents help as well, and their creativities bring them closer together.
SKye sees she is enjoying living there temporarily and the extending invitations by these caring people who want her to stay on and help with the next event.
A charming romance novel with surprises and magic in the Wintertime especially.
A light, sweet and cozy reading, perfect for a script of a Hallmark movie. One playboy stuck at his homeplace and a girl stuck in her life became together as a result of a heritance. First they hate each other, then they know each other and became best friends (friends that think they can be so much more but don't say it, I think you know what I mean). They have to live together in a shattered lodge but surrounded by Will's family, a noble family but poor one that we know from previous books (not me, this was my first of the series -although it's the third one).
It's a funny and sweet book but I think the story is too cheesy for me and the relationship of Skye and Will it's a little repetitive, especially at the end. And that end made me roll my eyes. But despite all this it was a good story.
I have really enjoyed reading this series.
This is the story of Skye and Will. There first meeting doesn't go well and they are so different personality wise. But as the book progresses they both start to change.
Also nice to catch up with the characters from the previous books.
I love this series! I love the family...the house...the dog!!! I love it all!!! A wonderful addition to a series i thought couldn't get any better :c)
My review has been posted to my blog & Goodreads. Review has also been tweeted as usual. Thank you! :c)
