Marianne has a life others dream of. A beautiful townhouse on the best street in the neighbourhood. Three bright children who are her pride and joy.
Sometimes her past still hurts: losing her mother early, growing up in foster care. But her husband, Simon, is always there. A successful surgeon, he’s the envy of every woman they’ve ever met. Flowers, gifts, trips to France: nothing is too good for his family.
Then Simon says another woman’s name. The way he lingers on it, Caroline, gives Marianne a shudder of suspicion, but she knows it’s nothing – she can’t entertain this flash of paranoia.
In the old days, she’d have distracted herself by excelling at work, but Marianne left her glamorous career when she married. She’d speak to a friend, but she’s too busy with her children and besides, Simon doesn’t approve of the few she has left.
It’s almost by accident that Marianne starts to learn more about Caroline. But once started, she can’t stop, because what she finds makes her wonder: is the question she should be asking not ‘should she be jealous’, but... ‘should she be scared?’
This is the first Sue Watson book I’ve read that was way different to her usual, side-splitting, cheek-aching comedies.
I was NOT disappointed!
It’s rare for me to enjoy one authors writing across different genres, but this was great!
And the ending…!! OMG
Thoroughly recommend this author & book to everyone
This was a good read. It started off a bit slow, but picked up towards the middle of the book. I liked the way the author wrote the characters. It definitely kept me engaged.
Firstly, my apologies to Netgalley, Bookoutre and Sue Watson for the late submission of my review for the book I granted permission to read and review.
Sue Watson has come up with an engrossing pyschological thriller with characters you can't help but want to read more about. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this, it has all the elements of a good read from plot and intrigue to pace and tension. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it.
A good book but it fell a little flat for me. Good writing and a good storyline, but I was just hoping for a bit more.

With Our Little Lies, the talented Sue Watson delivers another domestic thriller that left me on the edge of my seat, breathless with anticipation of what would happen next. She creates characters that are extraordinarily complex and well developed which gives me, as a reader, a sense of knowing and caring about the characters and the ability to relate to the events occurring around them.
This story was riveting because it explores the reality of marriage and relationships and what goes on behind closed doors instead of what the outside world sees and makes assumptions about. Additionally, this story gave me a sense that truth can be subjective, depending on the perception of the narrator. Marianne Wilson is such a character. Married to successful surgeon, Simon, she has a beautiful home, three children and a life that, on the outside, everyone envies.
On the inside, Marianne is a woman who is highly paranoid and struggles with what is reality and what is fantasy, manufactured by her mind in times of anxiety. Her greatest struggle lies in whether her husband is cheating on her. He’s done it before, numerous times, or has he? Marianne doubts herself and when her husband says another woman’s name, she could let it go, but the way he says it, caressingly, lovingly, starts Marianne on a path of paranoia, suspicion, and delusion she can’t separate fact from fiction and has numerous gaps in her memory. I didn’t agree with a lot of decisions and choices Marianne makes but I understood why she did. To further complicate matters, it was apparent to me that Simon was verbally, mentally, emotionally, and physically abusive to Marianne. He gaslights her incessantly, blaming her for anything and everything, breaking her down into a mere shell of a woman who is all too eager to accept blame and responsibility for the slightest of infractions, such as throws and pillows not perfectly displayed on the couch. For Marianne, Simon’s love and acceptance is vital to her survival.
As much as I felt bad for Marianne, it was a challenge for me to discern whether Marianne is mentally ill or not. I absolutely loathed Simon. He’s a terrible husband and absentee father. He never misses an opportunity to degrade Marianne, questioning her ability to be the perfect mother and wife. He has perfectly isolated Marianne away from having friends or career or even hobbies that may bring her a sense of accomplishment or pleasure. He’s a vile, despicable character and I desperately wished Marianne would have found the strength and presence of mind to save herself, take the children, and leave, but as victims of domestic violence know all too well, they have limited options without friends, family, or money.
A major plot twist in the final 5% brings closure but it felt rushed and I would have preferred a different outcome, but still found this story very intense and very enjoyable.
My Final Verdict: I highly recommend Our Little Lies by Sue Watson to readers who love nail-biting thrillers that catapult the reader into a story where the lines between right and wrong, good and evil are not clear.
I loved it! Sue if this is your first psychological thriller then my god it was worth waiting for! The suspense started from the first chapter. I was routing for Marianne and hated Simon. I take my hat off to anyone who can write characters that provoke such strong feelings. I found myself laughing at parts where Marianne was trying to make up her life was happy to Simon's mistress. He is definately what you would call a gaslighter! Was she imagining his affairs? When Simon threatens to get her commited and take her children she decides to fight back. I have enjoyed a few of Sue's books but this is by far the best!
I would recommend this story to all thriller lovers .This book took me by surprise. It kept me interested throughout the story and I needed to see what was going to happen. I truly enjoyed the pacing of the story and the well written characters.

I love, love, love a Sue Watson book and Our Little Lies did NOT disappoint!
A slip of the tongue could change Marianne's life as she knows it forever.
Simon really is the perfect husband...or is he? Is he simply wearing a mask or is there something sinister in his past? Marianne can't let the name he uttered, "Caroline" go and she soon goes down a paranoia laced rabbit hole in search of the answers she craves. With more information coming to light she wonders is she should be worried her husband may not love her as much as she thought and he professes or should she worry more about saving her own life?
Pulse pounding and deliciously dark, do not miss out on Our Little Lies!
A gripping, enjoyable read. A believable setting which underlines the vulnerability of a woman who has given up so much for her seemingly wonderful husband. Highly recommended.
This author is fast becoming one of my favourite authors. I absolutely loved this book and couldn’t put it down. This is a dark domestic drama and it blew me away.
I love Sue Watson books and this may well be my favourite! I devoured it!
A seemingly perfect marriage and life is not all it appears to be in this thriller..
I was gripped from the start and the twists and turns keep you turning the pages right to the very end.

A good and solid read by a talented author. It deals with a difficult subject, namely psychological domestic violence in the home , but it was done well, and I recommend this book.

Our Little Lies by Sue Watson is an exciting, thrilling, and unputdownable suspense novel that asks how well we really know the people in our lives. This one has such an original plot, and I loved it from the very first page!
I really tried to like this book, but it was so hard to get into when the plot of jerky husband with an ex wife has been done before. And before that it was done again. Nothing that kept me on the edge of my seat or had me staying up super late like good novels do.
3 stars! This book was a bit of a slow burner for me I felt like the first half was very repetitive constantly being told how women fall at Simons feet and how charming he is, how he expected expects and deserves perfection and how Marianne has headaches, she doesn’t deserve him so she thinks etc it was as though every other chapter was repeated in different words. I did feel for Marianne and the second half of the book however did get a lot more interesting and thrilling so I’m glad I stuck with it I wouldn’t say it was the most exciting twist in the world and didn’t shock me to be honest
I would like to thank Bookouture Publishing and the Netgalley website for this partnership.
There is Marianne who lives in a beautiful house on the most beautiful street in the neighbourhood with her three children. Sometimes her past catches up with her, she lost her young mother and lived in foster care. Her husband is a surgeon. Until the day her husband gives a woman's name by saying too much, Marianne tells herself that this is not possible. She can't tell a friend who is very busy about it she will come across information about this Caroline by chance.
A book read in one go so much I hooked on the story so moving, captivating, full of suspense and twists and turns. Too eager to read another book by this author, I love her pen.
I loved Sue Watson's women's fiction books, so jumped at the chance to read this. I did enjoy Our Little Lies, however it only seemed to start picking up more halfway through the book.
Marianne has a seemingly perfect life with her surgeon husband Simon and their three children - at least, to any outsider. However Marianne's life isn't as wonderful as it seems. Simon is violent and controlling, putting her down at every opportunity. And now, she's found out he's having another affair.
With Marianne's past issues and mental health problems, Simon tells her she's imagining it. But Marianne's convinced it's true. And she's determined to find out...
This was a great read that eventually got me utterly hooked. At the beginning however it was quite show, with a lot of the tension broken by monologues about Simon's behaviour. I also found it quite hard to understand Marianne; she seems to understand how Simon treats her, yet at the same time is determined to keep her 'perfect' family together. I didn't fully understand what she truly wanted.
However, Our Little Lies was an enjoyable read and I'm looking forward to more thrillers from Sue Watson in the future.
