This is book number nine in the series featuring DI Kim Stone and if you haven’t read the previous books then you have certainly missed out. Kim has a close knit team and the last book ended with the death of one member of the team and Kim being hospitalised. We learn how his death has affected Kim and the other members of the team and how they are coping having to replace him. Kim is called out to the murder of a surgeon who was involved in one of her previous cases. His son is then involved in a serious car accident, are they linked? Kim soon realises that there is a serial killer who is seeking revenge. Running alongside this is the investigation of a missing girl who needs her medication to stay alive and Stacey, a team member, is the one leading this. I thought the two storylines blended well together. Kim and Bryant are still having their banter and it’s great to learn more about Kim’s past which makes her the person she is. This is a fantastic, addictive series each book gets better and better. I can’t wait for book number ten!
Thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for giving me the opportunity to read and review this book.

Kim Stone never fails to intrigue, confound and delight in equal measure and book 9 in the series continues this pattern. Fatal Promise picks up just weeks after the tragic events at the end of Dying Truth (I beg you to read the books in order, or at least book 8 before this one - you will not be sorry!). Desperately trying to mend her fractured team while herself suffering from overwhelming grief, there is a new case to solve, to haunt and distract them all. The author makes her characters live and breathe and we feel every pang of hurt and despair. They are the friends we want to comfort and console. Kim is such a damaged soul due to her abusive past and, through her wonderful relationship and dialogue with faithful therapist Ted, there is development in our understanding of her struggles and vulnerability. At the same time there is also laughter and good humour to alleviate the mood.
A masterclass in character-lead, exciting, suspenseful writing.

As always a gripping story to add to a brilliant series. My review will be short and sweet mainly do to the fact that talking about the plot in anyway will ruin it for others. If you have read the last book Dying Truth you will know there is heartache for Kim’s team and this book kind of mixes old with new. This book definitely reads better I’m order to get the most out of it however the main plot can be read as a stand alone.

Having only read the first book in this series I did wonder if it would be easy to follow this one as there are 7 other books. It does work as a stand alone but I think you would get more from it by reading the others. It’s a decent read but to be honest I found myself getting irritated by the main character, Kim Stone, and I doubt if this is the reaction wanted. It’s not the fact that she’s a flawed character, most female police officers in this genre are the same, it was more that having decided who the guilty parties were she’s determined not to think of alternatives.
I can’t say much more without giving away spoilers.
My thanks to Netgalley for this copy.

I couldn't wait to get my hands on this book after the shock ending in the last book. What a fantastic read this book is. The book starts with everyone reuniting after the shock death of their colleague. Each character deals with the grief in a different way. Stacey gets her own case in this book which was great. The new character Penn is intriguing and im looking forward to what. lies ahead for him. Well done Angela on another great instalment.

9th in the series, and the 9th 5 star rating!

I think I'm running out of wonderful things to say about this author, and this series!!

DI Kim Stone and her team have become like family. The character development and backstory provided with each book has really made them come alive. Marsons has made me feel their pain, laugh at their jokes, and enjoy their working relationships that are the foundation to making this series so successful.

Keep 'em coming Angela, I'm already going through withdrawals!

Another Kim Stone book that is well worth reading. Returning to work following the death of one of her officers is difficult, and welcoming a replacement, almost impossible. Alongside comes a difficult case that needs the whole team to sort out - just when the team is feeling fractured. While her team surviving team members were split among other divisions, one of them picked up a missing girl case, which turns out to be a lot more worrisome than it first appears.

This is the 9th book in the DI Kim Stone series and the second I've read. Thanks to my friend Debbie for telling me about Netgalley which is where I got his book. For me, one test of a good author is the ability to write books in a series that not only keep me engaged, but are written in such a way that you don't have to read the books in order. In this case, I have read the first book, and now the 9th book and I can't wait to go back and read the ones in between. DI Kim Stone is a strong female lead character who is very good at her job and not particularly likeable - because she is so focussed on doing her job well. A doctor is found dead in a field, and he is someone known to Kim and her team. When his son is involved in a car accident days later, the team have to find out whether the two incidents are related. Great building of suspense and great story telling.

Gritty police thriller, with plenty of surprises. Great to see the team back with a new member, and see how they are all coping with the loss of their colleague in the last book. Very well written.

Has it ever happened to you to wish you had a third arm while washing the dishes, or vacuuming or cooking or feeding your baby or holding your child or whatever “unimportant and mundane” task you’re supposed to do? An extra arm, which would hold the book you just can’t put down, so you would be able to read on without interruptions?
Well, I have! And Angela Marsons’ books are of those “third arm” kind of books. Un-put-down-able.
In fact, I don’t even waste precious time reading the synopsis or other reviews. I just know it is going to be excellent.

A doctor is murdered brutally. His son dies in a car crash while returning home to console his mother. An old woman’s body is found, her death anything but natural.
Are these cases all linked together? Are they the work of a deranged serial killer? If so, what is the motive? And Who could be next?

Thanks to Angela Marsons, Bookouture and the NetGalley for providing me with a copy.

FATAL PROMISE is the 9th book in the D.I. Kim Stone Series by Angela Marsons. I have been hooked on this series right from the beginning, and never want them to end. This series is like watching a novella, and getting reacquainted with the characters we love so dearly. This novel, races along at an amazing speed, full of twists and turns, totally gripping the reader for the suspense ride from beginning to end. I kept flipping the pages as I had to know what had happened. I loved it!

This novel picks up from the previous novel, Dying Truth, where DI Kim Stone and her team of officers of the West Midlands Police Department, must deal with the loss of one of their own.

The loss is intense, and holds a special place in the heart of each one of the remaining team colleagues. Kim, Bryant and Stacey must move on. And what makes matters worse, is that the temporary replacement-Penn, comes in above Stacey as a sergeant while Stacey is a constable. Stacey and Penn are both excellent at data mining, while Kim works well with her trusted friend, Bryant. In Fatal Promise, Kim has just had her cast removed from her broken leg, but her team and the cases to follow will not slow her down.

When the body of a doctor is discovered brutally murdered in local woodland, Detective Kim Stone is shocked to discover the victim is Gordon Cordell – a man linked to a previous case she worked on involving the death of a young school girl. Gordon has a checkered past, but who would want him dead?

But then Gordon’s son, Saul is involved in a horrific car crash which leaves him fighting for his life. Another accident?

Then the body of a woman is found dead and Kim makes a link between the victims and Russells Hall Hospital. The same hospital where Gordon worked.

The strength of this novel lies in the characters, and how they each deal with the loss of one of their own, and how would they cope with this loss and regroup. It is a family mourning the loss of one of their own. But Kim must keep her squad together and find the killer before he claims his next victim?

I am not going to say anymore as I don’t want to give the plot away, but this is a very riveting and powerful story. I loved it. This is such a good series I would highly recommend you start from book 1 and get acquainted with all the characters and enjoy the ride.… I don’t think you will be disappointed.

The killer is picking off his victims…Eeeny meeny, miney, moe. Who lives, who dies!

Many thanks to Bookouture via Net Galley for my digital copy.

This is a great addition to the DI Kim Stone series and it even picks up where the last book finished.
Kim and her team are struggling to come to terms with the death of their colleague Dawson, which happened at the end of the previous novel. They have been assigned Penn as a replacement but Kim and Stacy are having difficulties accepting him as he just isn’t Dawson.
Then they are asked to investigate the murder of a doctor who was involved in their previous case and whilst doing this they have to overcome their grief and perform their duties efficiently. Kim finds it particularly hard and her boss is not even sure she should be back at work.
The author examines Kim’s mental health as well as the killer’s during the course of the plot and I found this aspect of the story extremely interesting, especially since I have read all the earlier novels. We learn a lot more about Kim and her motivation during the course of Fatal Promise.
I also loved the focus on other members of the team and was particularly pleased to see a Stacy leading her own investigation into the disappearance of a teenage girl. These characters are now like old friends- I could almost imagine having a coffee with Stacy or Bryant!
As ever Angela Marsons has produced a great book and hopefully it will not be too long before the next one in he series is written!
You could read this as a stand alone novel but I suggest reading the series as it is excellent and well worth investing the time. In fact new readers have a real treat in store.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for my arc in exchange an honest review.
Thank you for your review.

Thrilling! This case takes you on a wild ride of twists and turns. It keeps you guessing at every turn as each piece of evidence is uncovered. You will never see the clues unraveling until it smacks you right in the face.

This is the 9th D I Kim Stone novel and it does not dissapoint. Angela Marson’s novels pack a heavy punch of emotion , particularly at the end of book 8 , Fatal Promise is no different. We pick up the tale of DI Stone and her team just 6 weeks on from Dying Truth (book 8) and despite their loss the team are once again looking for a depraved killer. Their first victim is familiar to them but is his murder related to their previous discoveries? Or is it just a coincidence? As the bodies pile up and they seem to have overwhelming forensic evidence that clearly points in one direction, they stop and ignore everything and think again.
Angela Marsons has yet again written a gripping novel that had me on the edge of my seat , so engrossed, I couldn’t put it down. If you’ve not read any other DI Stone books this will still be a great read, although I’d encourage you to read every one. I, for one cannot wait for book 10.

An excellent read. Book 9 and it just gets better even when you think it can't! . The team are at a low ebb after losing one of their colleagues. Penn , who we met in a previous investigation has returned to the team. Kim Stone and the team are investigating the gruesome murder of a previously known character, while Stacey is investigating the disappearance of a young girl with health problems.Further murders are happening and Kim and the team searching for clues. Each character of the team is special in this brilliant series. I adore the new character of Penn and hope he remains in the team. A crime thriller that also has an emotional edge to it. Seriously looking forward to book 10

Fatal Promise is the ninth book in the Kim Stone series….how the hell did that happen?! It only feels like five minutes ago since I read the first book. Anyway what did I think of the book I hear you all saying! Well OMG it was certainly worth the wait. Angela has nailed it once again with this unputdownable read. You guys are in for one hell of a treat.

So after the emotional ending of the last book this one picks up where it left off which I wont say to much about incase you haven't read it yet.

Normally the author takes us on a trip round the Black Country but with this story the plot is based more around Russells Hall Hospital and the police stations. A hospital I have been to many times….it does actually exist. One of the many things that I love about this series is that the author uses real places. And the characters come to life and jump out of the papers to you….with the added Black Country accent. Every time I heard/read Stacey’s voice I kept thinking OMG she sounds just like me! LOL

The author never loses her touch and once again the author brings us another nail biting read full of twists and turns.I honestly don't know how she does it. Each book gets better and better this is without a doubt my favourite series.

I love everything about it, if you haven't read any books in this series you are definitely missing out. It is totally addictive I cannot recommend it enough giving it all the stars.
