Book review of Selenium Night by Kharma Kelley

As is the case at times ... life got in the way and reading this took WAY TOO long ... but finish it I did.

It was a great story! Well written with vivid characters and world.

I very much look forward to the next book!

Having enjoyed another book by this author, I figured it would be good to start from book 1 for once and picked this one up. This book throws you right into a complex world of shifter factions, fated mates, war and betrayal from page 1. Prepare yourself!

Aidan is the adopted son of the “good” werewolves. They’ve tried to stay out of the way of human and enjoy nature. Guided by a council to aid in the transition, Aidan has been leading this pack without incident until a gruesome fight leaves them severely wounded, both mentally and physically. Aidan’s own mother was murdered, most of the home burned down, and the most likely suspect is his adopted brother. The council allows him leave to hunt him down and come back with him. Should be easy enough, right?

Maddie is a veterinarian in a town with a mostly deserted night life. One night, however, she decides to take a risk and go into a local bar. This bar, however, happens to be populated by the “bad” werewolves. The only thing that gets her out alive is Aidan, who just so happens to be in the right place while hunting his brother. His hunting plans soon take a backseat as these two lovebirds flirts and tease each other. Nothing in town is what it seems and things only get more twisted and complicated as time goes on. While we eventually get to a good place, you should be prepared for a bumpy ride.

Aidan Bloodlocke, once a lone wolf, is now the alpha to his pack. When a betrayal takes place, he must go after the rogue wolf and exact revenge. Veterinarian Maddie Ardale recently settled in Bridgeport, Maine. As she settles to her new life, she finds herself in the middle of a feud between werewolves.
This book started out very good. My problem is that it seemed to shift POVs every few paragraphs to any particular character that was in that particular scene, not just the main characters. This got really annoying and made it really hard to focus on the the main plot and the two main characters. I’ve never read this author before, so I’m not sure if this is her normal style, but I’m not sure I’ll try her again.

Action packed, emotional thrill ride filled with danger, secrets, betrayal, tested loyalties, excitement and off the charts passion.... this journey grips you from the very beginning and does not let go.

Aidan Bloodlocke and Maddie Ardelle have their whole lives change in the blink of an eye and as their worlds collide with each other they are faced with some emotional and hard choices about life and family. Loved this thrilling shifter romance, very entertaining.

I really enjoyed reading this book. The story has action, romance, humor, magic, suspense, mystery, family love and loyalty as well as betrayal. It is so full of action you can’t stop turning the pages to see what’s next. While reading I cried, laughed a few times, and was on the edge of my seat quite often.

Selenium Night is the second book that I’ve read from author Kharma Kelley. Although I do not generally read this specific genre, Kelley’s writing is entertaining and engaging. This is a book that you will want to read if you enjoy supernatural romance with an action-packed plot.

Aidan is a man with a secret...he can shift. When he meets the human Maddie, he knows that he needs to keep his distance. He is in town looking for a criminal from his pack and knows that it is against the rules to mingle with humans. However, Aidan cannot help the attraction and soon finds himself falling for the town veterinarian. Luckily, he is not alone in his feelings as Maddie finds the s*xy stranger to be a man that she cannot resist.

This book includes the mystery of where Aidan’s lost pack mate is, the action of confrontation when the rogue pack mate is found, and a sweet romance that grows against the odds. Selenium Night is a great book on its own, but even more so around this time of the year!

Another great book by K. Kelley. I think the author has made me a fan!

I received an ARC via NetGalley.

This is my first read from this author and I enjoyed her storytelling. It had a little different take on werewolf/shifter lore. It was pretty action-packed. I enjoyed learning about their pack and the members that I'm assuming will be part of future stories. Aiden was a pretty great leader without being super macho alpha and domineering. I really liked Maddie, but I feel like we didn't get as much backstory on her as we did with Aiden and the pack. Can't wait for the next book!

I received this ARC from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
I thought this was one of the sweetest shifter romance I've read. The hero was not your usual forceful, hyper-sexual wolf. He was kind, gentle and supportive of his human mate, Maddie. I like d that Maddie was a vet and gave back as much as she took. She was compassionate and very brave. She stood up for her man. Really enjoyed it. Would definitely recommend.

Selenium Night is the first book in the ShadowShifters series by Kharma Kelley, and is an entertaining paranormal read.

Interesting world building, action and danger, a bevy of different characters and a touch of humour, provide the substance of a strong and engaging tale. The story does have a tendency towards laborious at times, so make sure you are not distracted, as your full attention is required to ensure you don’t miss anything crucial.

With so much going on, Selenium Night basically sets the foundation for what’s to come, and ensures that readers will be watching anxiously for the next in the series.

There are two kinds of shifters in this book, the Aristans and the Thesians. They were both created by a moon goddess who were sisters. Arista created the Aristans and they were supposed to worship both sisters but they really only cared about the goddess who created them. Arista's sister was mad about that so she created the Thesians to kill her sisters Aristans.

Aidan Bloodlocke was adopted by a Aristan family, though his 'brother' never accepted him and things got worst when Aidan beat his adopted brother, Kiernan and became alpha of his pack. Kiernan betrayed the pack with the help of a pack member as well as a few Thesians and the results were awful.

Kiernan runs from the pack but Aidan tracks him, finds him and brings in help to try and deal with him. But while Aidan is searching for Kiernan he runs into Maddie who is in trouble and even though she's a human he can't just leave her to get hurt. For some strange reason that he can't understand, he's drawn to the human and can't stop thinking about her but Aristan's have a strict rule about keeping away from humans so he knows that his attraction can never go anywhere.

Maddie is the town veterinarian and when we first meet her she's dealing with a total jerk who got bit by his girlfriend's dog and the dog got hurt presumably by the boyfriend, Evan. I really wanted Evan to get hit by a truck, he was a complete jerk and bully. The fact that the girlfriend put up with this guys behavior, just pissed me off.

Then Aidan finds out that Kiernan is gathering Thesians to make his own pack and Aidan knows that when he gets a big enough pack he will be coming after him for revenge. Aidan has no choice but to ask others that he never thought he would be asking, for help. But while all this family and pack drama is going on, there's also a really hot romance between Maddie and Aidan that I really liked. These two are so great together and I liked watching Aidan change his mind about humans and open his heart to Maddie.

There was so much action towards the end of this book and so much backstory and world building in the beginning of this book that it really kept my attention front beginning to end.

Disclosure: I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Since I can easily call the Paranormal Romance/Shifter Romance genre as my favorite of all, I was captivated by Selenium Night as it gives us a different look at the shifter world, a different type of lore and one very good story to get caught up in.

It’s very easy to slip into this world where warring shifter packs also include family dynamics that muddy up the waters a bit. Most of what you’d need to know to make the decision to pick up Selenium Night is in the cover description blurb, the rest I can give you my impression of, hopefully without spoilers.

I liked Maddie so much. She’s strong with a tender side, logical without being so set in her reality to not think outside of the box. Aidan, well I fell a bit in love with him myself. He’s torn in some ways, determined in others. Strong but knows when and how to listen to others. Loyal, even when that bites him back emotionally. Together they make not only a great couple but an impressive team as well. There are many intriguing secondary characters in this world, many that I’d love to learn more about one day Watching Maddie attempting to make sense of this unknown world, and Aidan trying his best to keep her from danger all the while wanting to draw her in closer simply speaks to the emotional, and steamy pull these two have for each other. I had fun with this story, and frankly, was hoping for the next in the series to be around to dive right into – but it looks as though that will have to wait.

If you love Paranormal Romance, and a slightly different spin to Shifters than you may have read before, then I believe you’d enjoy Selenium Nights. I know I did and I’ll be on the lookout for what comes next.

*I received an e-ARC of this novel from the publisher via NetGalley. That does not change what I think of this story. It is my choice to leave a review giving my personal opinion about this book.*
