Unfortunately this book was not for me, it was a bit slower than I would like and it just didn't hold my attention. I am sure other people will love it!
This has such a great premise but it just doesn't do it justice for me. It tells the story of Isabel, a heaven architect who falls in love with one of her clients. Firstly, the basic idea at work here is so compelling. I think there is a lot to explore around the creation of personal heavens that could have been really insightful and sometimes challenging. Unfortunately, this book doesn't really go in that too much. What it does is present a love story in the first half and then a thriller in the second. For me, the issues arose with the love story and specifically, the speed with which everything happened. It just did not ring true to me at all and it made it difficult for me to get on board with the characters and the action from there. The prose is clean and efficient and the plot moves at a good pace, but it just really felt trite in places and completely unbelievable in others.
I received a free copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for a fair and honest review.
This was an amazing read ,all about heavens, but not in the traditional sense.its basically about someone else who makes your heaven.
A very different look on heavens,I found I couldn’t put this book down.want to know how it was going to end I give this book six stars if icould
The Memory Chamber by Holly Cave is a truly great book. It centers around an amazing idea. What if you could create your own afterlife out of memories?
The story is told from the POV of Isobel, a Heaven Architect. I wish there was a job like that! She designs heavens for people who can pay for it. Well, obviously. She lives a happy life, but than something happens. She falls in live with her client. And that is when thing start to go wrong. Because his wife was found dead. And everything she used to believe in start to crumle.
This is a great story, highly recommended because it has it all. Mysterie? Check. Thriller? Check. Romance? Check.
Such a beautifully written book. Strong characters which flow well within the book. Due to this it sucks you into the story. Thank you to Quercus Books and netgalley for the opportunity to read The Memory Chamber in exchange for my honest unbiased review.
A beautiful book to read!
The story flowed very naturally and was interesting and gripping. The characters were believable and I could really connect with them while reading.
Thank you to NetGalley, Quercus books and Holly Cave for the chance to read and review this novel.
An Afterlife of your own design - what could go wrong?
Isobel is a Heaven Architect. In Fact she’s the best Heaven Architect there is, acclaimed for the beautiful and perfect heavens she creates. Each client’s personalised heaven is comprised of their chosen memories, ensuring them an eternity surrounded by those they love in the highlight reel of their lives. Isobel loves her job but then risks everything when she falls for her newest client, Jarek. When his wife is murdered Isobel is the only one who can prove his innocence and finds that it leads her to the unsavoury side of the business and her whole life crumbling around her.
I wasn’t sure what to expect when I started this book. The premise was like nothing I’d read before and had my interest piqued with the unique storyline of artificial heavens. You feel like you’re reading about the present day but then little things that are woven in remind you that it is actually the not too distant future. Holly Cave has a beautiful way of writing that paints vivid pictures in your mind as you read.
The book got off to a slow but intriguing start and I found it addictive once the pace increased and suspense heightened further into the story. I was eager to find out who killed Sarah and couldn’t read fast enough as I tried to figure out the answer myself. There were some great twists and the outcome was not one I would've predicted at the start of the book, or even until it was almost revealed, my own disbelief at the truth mirroring Isobel's.
A combination of romance, mystery ,thriller and sci-fi all interlaced together to make an unusual, exciting and brilliant read.
Out September 20th.
