Eye for revenge by Cheryl Bradshaw.
She wakes to find herself in the hospital. Her childhood best friend Evie is dead. But not just dead, murdered, and Evie's four-year-old son witnessed it all. Traumatized over what he saw, he hasn't spoken. And when Evie's cold-blooded killer goes into hiding, Quinn isn't only out for justice, she's out for revenge.
A fantastic read with some great characters. Love Quinn character. Couldn't put it down. 5*.
I would like to thank Netgalley and Pixie Publishing for this partnership.
I was immediately attracted by the cover of this book, you can see the beautiful Quinn.
It all starts when she wakes up in a hospital, she will learn that her childhood best friend Evie has died, murdered and her son will have witnessed it. She's going to want to avenge her best friend and find out who did this murder.
I immediately hooked on the story so captivating, full of suspense and twists and turns and so moving.
I put myself in the shoes of Quinn's character so endearing: how can I not take revenge after the murder of her best friend?
I don’t have a lot to say about this book. I didn’t realize it was a cozy mystery, so therefore it was just kind of “blah“ to me.... Very predictable in plot and ending. I will say that the cover is amazing! Very beautiful, and ultimately it’s what drew me in.
This is a book about a woman losing her best friend, being thrown back into her home town and doing some amateur sleuthing to find out who took her friend away from her.
Good things first: good pacing, gripping story, a fascinating character (Evie). I started to read this yesterday evening and am already finished. I got invested in some of the characters really fast. Another good thing: the book is written well, and edited well. No typos, no spelling errors or glaring grammar fails, smooth easy reading from start to finish.
Not so good things: the book is filled with cliches, the main protagonist is (and always has been) a doormat who suddenly finds her spine and evolves into the heroine. Just about all of the characters are unbelievable stereotypical, there's storyline fragments which could have lent a nice second plot to the book but were abandoned on cliff hangers ... Things happen that have nothing to do with real life (car accident, patient is in a coma, needs to be revived and leaves the hospital the next day, apparently fine? Come on!; police take civilians with them to interrogate suspects ... )
Some of the characters could have been fleshed out a lot more, given more life and depth, thus making the worldbuilding a lot more 3D.
The essence of the story is probably that you should communicate with everyone in your life WAY more, thus avoiding colossal misunderstandings and making horrible life decisions.
Would I recommend this book? Depends on what you expect from your stories. If you want a fairly quick read with a good main plot, then go for it. If you are annoyed by all the little side plots that are described and conveniently "solved" within a page, maybe stay away from it. All in all I liked it, but I certainly won't read it again (which is the measurement of a really good book for me).
I received a free copy via Netgalley and this is my honest opinion.
Quinn returns to her hometown and finds out that her best friend has been murdered, and takes it upon herself to find the murderer. This was a good story with a lot of drama and possible suspects.
Needs more than 5 stars-- This was so well written but I don't expect anything less from this author. I have ready every book she has written. This book was so entertaining, so mysterious and so surprising I sat down and read this book in a few hours. I did not want to leave my chair. Every page was full of one surprise after the next. Thank you NetGalley, the author, and Publisher for allowing me to read this book and write about it.
Interesting and intriguing mystery. Let me say I can't write paragraphs of reviews like the other posters. It kept my attention. I would recommend this book.
Eye for Revenge by Cheryl Bradshaw is a psychological thriller.
First, let me thank NetGalley, Kobo Writing Life, and of course the author, for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.
My Synopsis:
Having just returned from a trip to Hawaii with her husband Marcus, Quinn Montgomery finds her world turned upside down. Her best friend is dead. How can this be? How can Evie be dead? Still reeling from this news, Marcus starts another fight about Quinn wanting to go back to work. It is more than Quinn can take, and she rushes out into the night and ends up crashing her car. When she awakes in the hospital, she knows it’s time to leave Marcus. She returns to her home town with her parents, and starts to deal with Evie’s death, which turns out to have been a murder, and her 4-year old son may have been a witness to it.
As Quinn re-acquaints herself with the town, and the people, she also meets up with Bo, her high-school sweetheart, who is now the detective looking into Evie’s death. Apparently his feelings have never changed, but Quinn is going to try and stay clear of him. There are too many hard feelings. But she does need his help, because she is determined to find out who murdered Evie.
As Quinn digs into the murder, and asks questions of anyone in her path, she puts her own life in jeopardy.
My Opinions:
I really enjoyed this book. I have not “yet” read anything else by this author, but I will. Her writing is clear, and the plot was good. I liked all of the characters, and they all had merit. Even Evie, although dead, had life in this book. I loved the relationship between Quinn and her sister, which seemed real to me.
For those that know me, I am not a romance reader, but I didn’t mind the attraction between Quinn and Bo. Overall, it was a fast read, and kept me interested from start to finish.
Luckily it was a Saturday so I could read the book in one take. It's not intolerable suspense, but an extremely well written story with twist and turns that make it impossible to predict anything. Excellent book!
Quinn Montgomery’s best friend, Evie, is dead. Murdered. In this small town, who could have wanted Evie dead? Did Evie’s four-year old son, Jacob, witness the murder? Jacob is not talking…not one word since his mother’s death. Can Quinn help Jacob and keep him safe? Quinn will try to assist the detective, her former boyfriend, Bo McAllister with the investigation even though he does not want her involved. She will put her own life at risk as she questions people in town trying to find evidence that the police may have overlooked. When they were young, Evie was the assertive one who took care of Quinn while Quinn was the shy one. Now the roles are reversed and Quinn is out for revenge and will do whatever is necessary to find her friend’s killer. Quinn is not sure of her feelings for Bo and whether she wants to get involved with him. He let her down before…or did he? I really enjoyed this mystery with a story that has that small-town flavor, suspense and interesting family dynamics. No serial killer here, just an entertaining and well-developed mystery. I received a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to give an honest review. (by paytonpuppy)
