I just couldn't get into this one. Wanted to but really never latched on to it. Is not one that I would make another attempt at. Would not recommend.
I want to say that I enjoyed reading this book, because it truly was very good. But the quality I received was very badly formatted which made it incredibly difficult for me to review it.
So 4 stars for the writing and the content (which I very much recommend) and 2 stars for the formatting of the book (at least the one I received.)
It was definitely a unique and interesting book. But i couldn't read it in my e reader. The file was a mess. I thought it was poetry but it was different than that. I enjoyed it. But i think i prefer in original book format.
This was free a review copy from NetGalley and Crowsnest Books in exchange for an honest review.
Kindle formatting was a bit of a mess, but having just finished this book, I’m not sure if it added or completely detracted from the experience. When I first started reading Perto Montt, I unthinkingly pegged it as a poetry collection, but that wasn’t the case at all. It is much more than that.
Puerto Montt, is a dark tale full of dreams and hallucinations of murders that may or might not have occurred. There are also horrifically mundane moments throughout the book which contrast with its more sinister aspects rather nicely, I thought.
Overall, I think I really enjoyed this work and it’s something I would like to read again in a proper book format.
Recommended for anyone looking for something completely different that features very vivid imagery..
First, full disclosure: the digital copy I received from Netgalley, practically indecipherable on my Kindle, was legible if somewhat puzzling in structure via my Kindle app on my iPad. All that being said, I believe this lovely work of art should be experienced in its physical form when it becomes available in October 2018. There is some amazing imagery here which I've come to expect from literature originating in South America, dream sequences and fantasies centering around what may or may not be murders and the efforts to explain their circumstances. Again, all THAT being said, I have to ponder: what exactly did I just read? Chalk it up more to an experience.
