This book was a hilarious depiction of a city girl in the midst of rural Arkansas. What was even better was the cast of characters in such a small town that were perhaps even more colorful than the people she associated herself with in NYC. I really enjoyed her aunt especially. Highly recommend.
i enjoyed how this book flipped the traditional hero and heroine roles. however, it started off as sweet but then turned odd. what was old fashioned quirk turned into an 80s romance novel hero with his "plan" for her to fall in love and stay in AR with him. i really enjoyed the heroine and how unapologetic and funny she was. i was looking forward to reading about the shale assignment but that got thrown to the wayside after it was used a plot device. i was surprised to see the author mention it so much in the acknowledgements because it was really only addressed twice in the book.
I was disappointed I really didn't like this book and couldn't even continue and I dislike giving bad reviews. I must admit I had a read a book from Anna a while ago and while I enjoyed it to a point it wasn't fantastic in my opinion so I kind of avoided reading this author for a while I just didn't think it was my cup of tea. Anyhoo I decided to give this book a chance, don't get me wrong I didn't hate author just wasn't someone who made me excited to grab book, however the blurb caught my attention and I really didn't think it lived up to the interest, you may like it but me nope nope nope and this sealed the deal and that is also something I dislike but I dont want to waste anybody's time nor mine, so no I don't recommend.
DNF at 42%.
I'm sorry because I have loved some of Anna Premoli's other books but I can not stand either of the protagonists. Kayla is immature and frankly an embarrassment to women everywhere and Greyson is so busy being enigmatic that he is just a meaningless blob. It's clear at nearly halfway through the book that there is absolutely no journalism, shallow or investigative, going on as Kayla and Greyson swap innuendos.
I have yet to see a plot, or even development of a relationship.

So, I've read several novels from this author before and have to some degree liked most of them. The author has an uncanny ability of creating hilarious, outrageous heroine and sweet heroes that melt the hardest hearts. So I'm going to layout what I liked and disliked about this novel to gauge how to rate it since I'm a bit conflicted. Here goes:
Pros:
outrageous, typical New York fashionista heroine. This women is fierce and wins the people in this small town of Arkansas with her designer shoes and engaging personality.
Charming portrayal of small town folks who are funny and bring life to the the story.
Hilarious scenes like the auction where things don't go exactly according to plan
Cons:
A goody toe shoe, hero who happens to be the Mayor with a heartbreaking past that turns him into an insecure, desperate man who can't bring himself to live in the moment. He's so determined to avoid heartache that he basically pigeonholes the heroine into falling in love with him through awkward conversation and mediocre sex.
The hero and the heroine over analyze their feelings way too much. A lot of telling rather than showing emotions. Very annoying.
So as a whole I think this novel has the potential to be heart stopping good but fails to really deliver. Despite that I still enjoyed it and recommend that others give it a try.
This was a cute read about a small town girl that has hit the big city, only to have to return to her small town home. I found the characters flowed together nicely. I really like the authors writing style and look forward to more by this author.
The book was okay, but it didn't grab my complete attention. I found myself to be easily distracted while reading and even though others have said it was hilarious, for me there weren't any laugh out loud moments. Maybe I'm difficult in the humor department?
Thanks so much for the preview. This book was hilarious & cute. Loved the great characters first book I’ve read by the author but I’ll definitely be reading more.
FOR ME THIS WOULD BE A 3.5 READ
Kayla is a columnist in New York. She writes about night life, all the excitement of clubs and who is being seen out and about.
Then she is assigned a completely different type of job. She is to return to Arkansas and find out about fracking. She will be writing very serious articles rather than fluff.
When Kayla gets to Heber Springs to stay with her great aunt, she meets, Grayson, a really terrific guy who happens to be the mayor.
Kayla believes in drive by relationships and Grayson is more of a happily ever after kind of guy.
This book has a great deal of humor. The dialog between Kayla and Grayson is entertaining. It is quite evident that there is a very strong attraction building between the two of them. They are both smart individuals who are guarding their hearts. And they are funny together.
To be honest, I am not a fan of Kayla. She is amusing and witty. She also belittles just about everyone and everything around her. Her continuing inner thoughts are very amusing but her sense of superiority gets old for me.
Both, Kayla and Grayson are good lead characters. They are strong, attractive and interesting.
The plot is not breaking new ground, but it is entertaining and fun to read.
I received this book from the publisher through NetGalley. I am voluntarily writing this review and all opinions are completely my own.
What’s Love Got to Do with It is such a cute and delightful book. There are a myriad of great characters that add to the mix and to the push me-pull you relationship that forms between journalist, Kayla, and town mayor, Greyson. A series of some completely hysterical scenes involving Kayla’s Aunt Jill will leave you laughing. Life in the tiny town of Heber Springs, Arkansas is about to liven up!
This is my first book by Anna Premoli and as the blurb informs you, it was hilarious. If Kayla was real, I would have scheduled a meeting with her only to listen to her funny banter. Needless to say, I would have been a staunch follower of her newspaper column.
The novel is narrated through Kayla's point of view alone and revolves around her life in Heber Spring for a few months. She is sent there to investigate on the shale gas industry taking her usual society column as her cover. There she meets the handsome Mayor, Grayson, who is still bearing the pain of his bad divorce that occurred three years ago. Leaving his high profile job in Boston, he comes to Heber Spring leading the life of a romantic recluse.
As everyone can see there is an intense chemistry between these two. But Kayla is not looking for a long-term relationship while Grayson is only for happily ever after. Yes, I know that it is predictable and truth to be told Kayla's attitude was a bit frustrating. Still, her witty dialogues throughout the book more than make up for her faults. A truly relaxing read which will make you smile from cover to cover!!!
What's Love Got To Do With It? by Anna Premoli is a modern day fairly tale.
One jagged journalist who mainly writes about New York's night life comes back to a tiny southern town to do some undercover investigating and there she meets a man who is going to ruin all her well thought out plans.
Once a big wig now happy to play mayor in a small town Grayson has his life figured out until a quirky but funny lady comes into his town and his life.
I especially liked the sexy banter between two characters. There are many funny moments that will keep readers laughing out loud.
There are also many sexually charged moments to keep it steamy.
Well written and absorbing rom com for all romance lovers.
I have loved all of Anna Premoli’s books and this was no exception. If your looking for a sweet but also laugh out loud romantic comedy, then I would definitely recommend this author and this book. I found Kayla hilarious pretty much right from the start and her internal narrative, in particular had me laughing out loud.
I grab a piece of cheese, trying to look refined as I bite into it “And what was that?” I cannot risk asking him. I’m going to hell anyway, I might as well be doing it for a valid reason.
There are the underlying deeper themes, in this case commitment phobias and abandonment issues which give the story a more believable feel however they don’t overshadow the humour or control the style of the book. The story is set in a small town filled with interesting people with even more interesting relationship dynamics (ie: Aunt Jill and Grace) and I enjoyed the added layers and humour these characters bought.
The chemistry between Kayla and Greyson is noticeable right away and their personality differences allow for some interesting banter. Although as Kayla herself actually points out, despite their difference they often still arrive and the same conclusion which I feel gives more credibility to their relationship. There initial differences in opinion and personality clashes make for a hilarious and enjoyable read.
“Maybe he’s just a decent guy who doesn’t want to take advantage of you…” she says. That’s possible, but I hate decent guys – I’ve got absolutely nothing in common with them.
All in all, this is an easy and enjoyable read, perfect for a lazy weekend or when you’re wanting a laugh. I’m also (as always with AP’s work) impressed this has been translated from Italian as I really never noticed or thought about it while I was reading.
Thank you to Netgalley, Publisher and Author for ARC
Another great book from Anna Premoli.
This is the story of Kayla and Greyson. Kayla is a city girl, only in town for a few months to write an article. Greyson moved to town from Boston for a quiet life and wants to keep it that way.
Great chemistry between the two of them and I also liked that it tackled the current contentious issue of fracking.
This comedy love story is written mainly from Kayla's (sarcastic sense of humor) perspective.
I loved the dynamics and the chemistry between Kayla and Greyson. Their love story is funny with a touch of sincerity. - It is a love story for those who are a bit afraid to make an open commitment to the person they love .

This was a cute book that talks about a serious issue (the fracking) in between the lines of chittery romance. Probably my biggest complaint is that it's over-sexualized. The book could have been a great read without all of the sexualization, but I guess to each his own. There are many pages taken from the movie "Sweet Home Alabama." It's a good movie, though, and I guess there are only so many ways to work city girl / country boy into a plot.
One of the main reasons I really liked Gilmore Girls, was the banter. The way Lorelai and Luke especially could constantly one-up each other? Goals. There's a reason Lauren Graham's book was called "Talking As Fast As I Can". Why am I mentioning this at the beginning of a bookreview, you ask? Because What's Love Got To Do With It gave me something I didn't even know I needed. It gave me the best banter since Gilmore Girls.
I was offerend an ARC by Netgalley in exchange for a review. All opinions are strictly my own.
The story
Kayla David is a high-flying journalist in New York City, spending all her time drinking martinis and writing about fashion trends. She is perfectly happy with her life, and she certainly has no time for falling in love.
That is, until, her boss decides to send her on a secret mission back to her hometown of Arkansas: she is tasked with exposing the truth about the fracking industry and to use her reputation as a lifestyle columnist as a disguise. She is horrified at the thought of returning to this boring country town, but up for the challenge.
Yet, she didn't plan on having to deal with Grayson Moir, the sexy but aloof mayor of Heber Spring. As Kayla settles into life there she soon realises that it might be a bit more difficult than she thought to keep her real mission a secret. And what's more, she finds it increasingly difficult to keep her heart under control too...
The opinion
Back in January I got to read another book by Anna Premoli, Accidentally in Love, and I remember really liking the narration in that book. Apparently, that's just an Anna Premoli-thing, because again: the tone and narration of this book was on point. I was laughing out loud on multiple occasions and, at one point? I screamed. Because it was just that good.
I like that the relationship between Kayla and Grayson was so equal, that they each had their stuff to work through, and of course... That banter. Honestly, I would recommend this book just for the banter. Of course, there's also a political element (which was, come to think of it, also the case in that other Anna Premoli-book I read). There was journalism (which I'm always here for). There were true friendships, old and new, that were all about supporting each other, never taking each other down, giving a push when a friend needed it...
And, best of all... There was, quite possibly, one of the most fun, most *sexy* (if I can say that, but yeah, boy was there a lot of attraction and sparks flying around!) romances I have read in a while. I'm officially adding Anna Premoli to my list of favourite chicklit authors. There.
The rating: 4.5/5
Look, I'm keeping my *5 stars* for books that changed me, and that's basically the only thing that kept me back from giving this book 5 stars. This was such an incredibly fun read that I honestly cannot recommend it enough. If you're in the market for something funny, fluffy and so well-written? Look no further, this is your book. Kayla David spends her time writing about New York City nightlife and keeps up to date with the current fashion trend so is horrified when her editor asks her to go to stay with her aunt in Arkansas to uncover the local story about fracking and the effects in the local community using her life and style column as a cover. She sticks out like a sore thumb and finds it hard to uncover any social activity at all. Plus she keeps bumping into the enigmatic Grayson Moir who seems to have all the locals eating out of his hand. Amusing and entertaining written in Anna Premoli’s kookie style. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
