This is my first time reading a book by this author and I enjoyed it. The cover is one reason I was drawn to this book. The blurb had me intrigued but it fell a little flat for me in some areas.
Phebe is a high-powered exec and Brody owns a sports bar. They have chemistry inside the bedroom. The chemistry doesn’t translate outside of the bedroom for a while.
Once I got into this book I enjoyed it and will be reading more books by this author.
Let’s Talk About Sext is a clever witty romance. I really enjoyed this storyline and would recommend it. I am voluntarily leaving my honest review after reading this arc.
She is a high powered exec, he owns a sports bar. He’s attracted right away, she takes a few minutes. Their romance is fiery even though they have almost nothing in common outside of the bedroom, shower, pool table, etc. Good romance. Thank you #netgalley 😊
An adorable well written Romance. It’s got great, flawed, yet-lovable main characters, sexual tension and hot sex scenes that don’t attack you first thing. What more could you ask from a Romance? You’d be surprised how many horrible ones are out there and you never know what you’re going to end up with. Which made this a breath of fresh air. I will definitely add Evie Claire to my Romance authors ‘Yes’ list.
Interesting story line, intriguing characters, and well crafted words makes Let's Talk About Sext an enjoyable literary escape. This first time read maintained my interest the whole way through, at times though I struggled with the plausibility of it all, but none the less I did enjoy what I found between it's pages. You'll find loads of heat and emotion with this one, highly recommend!!
A fun, quick, flirty read! Great banter between Phoebe and Brody--their chemistry was palpable! I loved the whole "opposites attract" story line and how Brody's laid back nature balanced Phoebe's high strung ways. While I didn't always like Phoebe, I did enjoy their romance!
The great character and storyline development made this story one engaging read! I look forward to reading more from this author!
This story was a written as a narrative with dual first person point of view. The author uses a direct characterization method. The major conflicts are with self, other characters, and society as a whole. The theme encompasses major themes such as power and corruption, love, individual versus society, and courage and heroism.
Phebe Stark is a woman who takes names, who rarely lets her feminine softer side show. She is our main protagonist and is round but fierce, she is a woman in a man’s world, can be quoted by her a few times in the novel. She is all about getting to the top but has hard time balancing which is all about her major change. Her main confidants are a group of female friends in various stages of adult life, living on their own, married and expecting. Brody Cantrell is a lone wolf who is about helping others but at the same time be self-sufficient. He is our main antagonist and love interest, he has no main confidants as he doesn’t tend to mix areas of his life together. He is all about the here and now and lets the future come as it may. The expositions shows us both Phebe’s first impression of Brody and his first impression of her. The rising action shows the current problems that both are battling, Brody with the city and legal and Phebe with a major project and harassing manager. The climax is hit when they finally allow their chemistry to turn physical after interesting text messages. The falling action brings in how they are from two different worlds that haven’t yet blended into one another. The resolution shows Brody and Phebe making changes for a better world for both of them.
The author’s use of organization allow for both dual point of view to flow seamlessly between one and the other. The word choice and use of modern technology allowed for us readers to connect with characters as well as the situations. Yes, I would recommend this book. This book would be good for anyone looking for a humours steamy love connection that does touch of some deeper topics, or a short and fun read. This book would not work for anyone who is more into drama filled books, lots angst and time between characters, or dislike characters just hooking up for hooking up.
Great blurb but sadly the story was not my cuppa
I am sorry to say that I did not finish the book and mostly skimmed the later chapters to find out what happened to the characters. Yes, I did like the premise of the story, both Brody and Phebe are strong and likable characters.
Phebe is strong and very opinionated, to a fault, but she realizes this towards the end and her character softens. I liked Brody who is easy going, loyal, and so much more than he appears. What made it difficult for me is the execution of the story. There were so many distractions and tangents that took my focus away from the developing relationship that I put it down several times to clear my head. Yes, I understand Brody and Phebe do crossword puzzles but too much monologuing and ramblings made the became exhausting and the story suffered.
I received a copy from Random House Publishing via NetGalley and voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book.
The title of this book is cute, but unfortunately it’s just about the only thing positive I can say. I really had a lot of problems with this story, not least of which was one of the main characters, Phebe. We are told right from the beginning what a strong, independent woman she is, and how she has had to be tough and in control in order to make it in the world of real estate. First off, I’m not sure that sacrificing your humanity is quite worth any job, and secondly, while I am all for a strong woman, Phebe was much more a control freak and a judgmental snob. Brody, the hero of this tale, is a straight talking guy who owns and runs his late uncle’s bar. He’s a nice guy, but he’s stuck in something of a rut. The two meet and they find each other intriguing. When Phebe returns to Brody’s bar a second time, that interest ratchets up. But despite what a great guy Brody seems to be, Phebe has a hard time overcoming her high expectations of others and isn’t sure she wants to start a relationship with him. Eventually they do hook up, and decide to be “f*ck buddies.” The whole “sexting” of the title, by the way, seems to be confined to one or two interactions, hardly enough to warrant using it to define the book. But I digress. While I liked Brody, and thought he was a decent guy, I just could not understand his attraction to such a horrible person as Phebe. She thinks about herself first, second and third. And she was absolutely horrible to Brody when he made choices she didn’t agree with. Why anyone would be attracted to someone like that is beyond me. Even by the end of the book Phebe still has not really become a better person. This one was a definite no for me.
Note: I received a copy of this book in return for an honest review.
This is a fun read with plenty of drama and great characters. Phebe and Brody are opposites and I loved the interaction between them. The characters have great depth, and the story is fun, emotion and entertaining. A good read.
Let's Talk About Sext is terrific! It is a modern day tale of love and romance (or the lack there of). Phebe is smart driven and successful mostly because she hides her femininity behind power suits and brass. Brody is more than a bartender and I love the role reversal. Phebe makes assumptions about Brody based on his job just as others make assumptions about her. The chemistry between the two is off the charts. I really enjoyed watching these get together.
I absolutely enjoyed this story as it’s easily relatable to real life relationship issues! Pride, money, family issues, and love!
I enjoyed the sexting and the humor in this book. The main characters were complete opposites they thought. Then the more they got to know each other the more surprises there were. After stepping back and really looking at their own lives they realized that they weren't as different as they thought. Watching them trying to fight their feeling is funny and made this a fast read. The sexual part of the story fits perfectly with the storyline.
The blurb sounded interesting and the title was cute. I have not read this author before, so I decided to give it a try. I like when a dual-POV book starts with the male POV, so this was a plus right a way. Brody seemed like I was going to like him, but I ended up more luke warm towards him. Phebe rubbed me wrong almost right away. The tough-as-nails heroine can be a delicate balance sometimes to appreciate. Phebe ended up swinging too far in to the unlikable area for me to want to continue to read about. And the harassment part of the story just wasn’t for me at the moment. I can see that this might appeal to some readers with different tastes than mine, but I just couldn’t get in to it.
I was really excited about this book because the description made it seem like it would be pretty different from a lot of contemporary romances. I thought the plot was executed well and I love dual POV books so I was pretty happy about that. While it was executed well, I found that I really could not relate to the female main character at all, and for me, that is a must in the romances I read. I thought she was too snobby and I really couldn't relate. She seemed to look down on pretty much everyone and that made her unlikable to me. I really did like the main male character and wished the female character had been a bit "nicer".
I'm going to be nice with my rating because I think part of my opinion is just because I'm cranky right now. This book was mostly fine. There was a lot of nitpicky things that bugged me, just ways things were phrased or general attitude of the characters. But that's probably going to be only me. I don't like the whole "Not like other girls/guys" thing and that was a HUGE theme here. The characters both constantly mention it and it was annoying. The internalized misogyny is real. But I did enjoy some things. I enjoyed the set up for the plot. It was fun and the characters had fun with it. The sexting was actually good and didn't make cringe. The love scenes were great, I really believed the characters had the hots for each other. But that's where it ends. I don't believe Phebe actually liked Brody as a person outside of what he could do for her. She for sure didn't respect him AT ALL. Her whole attitude was very classist and it's never really address or called out. She looks down on him for basically the entire book, except that he's good in bed. That she approves of. Brody has his issues as well. But I understood his more, and the key point is HE DIDN'T LASH OUT AT HER EVERY MOVE BECAUSE OF HIS. She overreacted and was cruel almost every other chapter because he had the nerve to make his own choices about his own life, and if they weren't what she'd do well too bad that obviously makes him a worthless person. I will give points that her cruelty is acknowledged and framed as a problem, for the most part. But without any lasting indication of improvement. There's a big blowup towards the end that really ruined the book for me. I just couldn't excuse her behavior. And while she's later sorry, and more understanding & respectful of his choices, it fell flat for me. It was too little too late, her true colors were already shown. I didn't like how it was rewarded. She was 1000% in the wrong. But it ends up playing out in her favor. He decides to make changes in his life, even though his life was perfectly fine and he owed no one any explanation or justification. I do respect that the author didn't make him chase her. She had to suck up her pride and make herself a little vulnerable to reunite. I appreciated that.
I don't know that I'll read the next book. I'm hesitant. But I'm a sucker for these punny titles, and the covers are GREAT. So who knows.
I picked this up because I thought it was going to be about a couple who texts/sexts a lot. At least enough to make it in to the title. I was a little disappointed that there wasn’t more texting. There was some, but not as must as I wanted. That is probably me just being nit-picky though. And that is how I roll. While I am talking about the little things in this book that bothered me, I want to mention that the word “girl” was used 63 times. The heroine, Phebe is a ball busting project manager who is absolutely phenomenal at her job, yet she is consistently described as a girl. This grates my nerves.
Speaking of Phebe, her age is never explicitly mentioned, but I am pretty sure she is mid 20’s at the most and she is just days away from being C-suite level at her job. I am not saying this doesn’t happen, but it read as incredibly unrealistic. With my annoyance over the other little things in the book, this was just too much for me. Is it too much to ask to have made the heroine in her 30’s? I just get tired of reading about all these overachieving 24 year old professionals, men and women, in romance novels that are making over a million dollars a year.
The hero, Brody, is a bearded bartender with a heart of gold. He volunteers for the locak Boys & Girls Club but he is a little lost in his career path and what he wants.
Phebe encounters some work place harassment and Brady is dealing with some daddy issues. Phebe is really shitty to Brody. He is kind of shitty to her. They figure out they are being dumb and work their shit out. They work through their conflict and it seemed fine.
This book was kind of boring and took me almost a week to finish, but I was invested enough to finish it. The several small annoying things took away from my enjoyment.
I enjoyed this "odd couple" romance by new-to-me author Evie Claire with complex characters and a story that was both comical and poignant. I had a difficult time liking uptight Phebe Stark who is a snobby workaholic on her quest for the C-Suite in a high pressure Atlanta firm. However, I did love laidback Brody Cantrell, a tall, bearded, sexy lumberjack bartender and their instant attraction, undeniable chemistry, steamy text messages and skin-scorching intimacy.
This quick, easy read is a perfect escape from everyday stress. I received an advance reader copy of "Let's Talk About Sext" from the publisher via NetGalley and this is my voluntary and unbiased review.
Cute fun story with humor, chemistry and feels! Phebe is a powerful business woman wanting to make her mark in a male business world, she's all work and no play but when she stumbles into a saloon seeking a drink the bartender seems to be a better option. Brody is taking with the witty blonde that came through his bar, but when she gives him a wrong number his chance might be gone. Witty sexting banter and fun characters make this a good read.
