One of the great things a person gets when being lucky enough to receive ARC copies of books is finding new authors that you would never normally find. Evie Claire is a new author for me, and I absolutely loved this book! You have this hi-powered, work alcoholic, strong willed, strangely funny, witty, sassy and gorgeous Phebe Stark who ends up in the Guns bar after being sexually harrassed by her supervisor. She finds the “bartender” Brody Cantrell, who is downright sexy as all get out, quick witted, funny, and ends up having the same obsession with crossword puzzles as she does, but he has this natural talent of putting her at ease, something no man has ever done. I absolutely loved the hot chemistry between this couple. I adore books that make me laugh, where the characters give as good as they get, and when they sear the pages of the book off in hot steamy sex. Brody understood Phebe like no one ever had, knew when to stand back to give her space, but there were a lot of growing pains in this relationship, which made the whole book very well written and difficult to put down. This book has it all, sucked me in from the first page to the very last word. Very well worth the read, and I will definitely be reading more books from this author. Plan to add this one to my paperback library.

I voluntarily reviewed an ARC copy of this book..

I was definitely intrigued by Brody and Phoebe's chemistry and the premise of the story. It was very opposites attract and I enjoyed how laid back Brody was in comparison to the uptight Bridget. Their chemistry was fiery and their banter was very spirited and sexy! I enjoyed this quick read!

While I enjoyed this story and how cute Brody and Phoebe were, I did find that while these two were great together, at times Phoebe was a little bit more than I could handle at times. All in all, though, this was a fun read and I look forward to more from this author. 3.5 stars! ~Ratula

Brody and Phebe are in a love affair that tugs at reasoning. It is aided by resilience and strength.

I really don't like not finishing books, especially when a book is an ARC (Thank you Netgalley). I really tried to give this book a chance but it was a snoozefest from the start. It felt pretty clear that the author was antsy to get to the dirty parts of the book that the actual story and character development suffered for it. The way Brody and Phebe (ugh) spoke to each other after one meeting was like they knew each other for far longer. The banter just didn't work. One minute, he's saying that he wouldn't take advantage of a drunk woman and the next, they're going at it on a pool table. I thought this would be a fun one but nothing pulled me in and nothing made me want to keep on reading either. This is a dud on arrival.

This was good but didn’t grab my attention until almost the end. I’m not really sure why it took me so long to get into it because I love stories with strong characters & this book definitely had 2 very strong characters. The chemistry was there, the angst was there, the emotions were there. Both Phebe & Brody were headstrong & sexually compatible but were Phebe was balls to the wall work & better at her job than any man, Brody was doing everything he could think to do to show he had no use for his late father or his money by continuing to run a bar. That bar & their single mindedness brought them together & tore them apart. But what should’ve been a done deal for the end turned out to be a step towards a new future for them both, whether apart or together they each had a new outlook on life & what they wanted out of it.

Let's Talk about Sext is a very sexy contemporary romance. Brody is our hero, a bartender/owner, who is very sweet and helps Phebe to relax and enjoy life more. The romance was okay, though the sexy times were very steamy. They were at it often. Personally, I'm more into a book when romance and angst play a bigger role in the story. The conflict towards the end of the book made me not like Phebe very much. I'm all for a strong female but Phebe sometimes seemed very bitchy. Even her friends reminded her of how she could not be an easy person to be with.

This is my first book from Evie Claire. It was great! The story follows Brody, a bartender and do-gooder and Phebe, a no nonsense business woman. When Phebe finds herself in a precarious position work-wise, she ends up in Brody's bar. Sparks fly and although Phebe is interested, she doesn't see that this would go anywhere and gives Brody a fake number. Brody is smarter than Phebe thinks and is able to track her down. They form an agreement and decide to start sleeping together. Of course a few wrenches are thrown in, drama ensues. I won't spoil the ending but its good.
This book was entertaining in a way that I wasn't expecting. Phebe is a go getter and is not good with feeling. She comes off as a total B in most of the book. Brody takes so much responsibility for everything but the reader realizes that he is very good at actual adulting. Their flaws are explored and we see why they act the way they do.
This book was well written. Although it was an ARC, it had minimal errors and was very cohesive and easy to follow. I will definitely keep this author on my radar.

First off, I have to say I personally have a hard time reading books that take place in the city I live in. I get hung up on details that if you don't live here you don't realize, or care, are inaccurate (like how if you're anywhere near Piedmont Park, you're in midtown, not downtown, and how the city is alive well before 8am). Silly, I know.

Phebe is one hell of an alpha female, and when she stumbles into Brody's hole-in-the-wall bar after quite possibly the crappiest day ever, the only thing that catches her off guard more than the harassment she just received from her boss, is her attraction to him.

I loved the idea of the alpha female character, however the flipping of the traditional roles (she's all business with no time for fun and he's thinking maybe there's more than just lust) wasn't quite working. The story was sweet, and the build-up with the sexting was a lot of fun. However, for me, it kind of fell off from there. Phebe was kinda of shallow...not necessarily is the vapid sense, but in the sense that there wasn't much substance to her character. Brody on the other hands, seemed deep and like there was a lot of story there to hell, but we never quite got to it.

Overall did I enjoy the story? Yes, I just wasn't stay-up-all-night sucked in. I'll even probably read the sequel. This one just doesn't make the list of "top books of 2019" for me.

“The space they made together was the only place that mattered.” But boy, oh boy, do Phebe and Brody sure have to go through a lot before they finally figure it out. She's all business, on track for the corner office and doesn’t think twice about busting any balls in her way. She knows business, she knows finances, she knows real estate in Atlanta, and she knows that it's the women behind the suits who really make things happen.

He's a bartender, but he's so much more. Brody turned his back on the money he came from to run the bar that the only father figure he really had, his uncle Nick, left to him. He doesn’t care about the land his own father left him or developing the historical building that houses his bar, and he would rather spend his free time volunteering with the Boys and Girls Clubs. No one on the face of the earth, including Phebe and Brody, would ever put them together. But those are the couples that have the best, albeit the most hard-won, stories!

I haven’t read any of the other text-premise books, so I didn’t have any expectation, but I loved this story!! This is another case where taking a chance on a new author paid off in a big way for me. We had to wait a little longer than originally thought for this one, but it was sooo worth the wait! I adore how these two people from different worlds, and very much opposites, worked their way into each other's hearts. Of course, the differences made for some interesting reading, so there was plenty of spark both in the bedroom (and messaging app) and out.

And heart? OMGee, there was so much emotion throughout the entire book! The author does a brilliant job balancing all of the elements, tossing our emotions around and then tempering it with well-timed humor. Brady and Phebe are both so authentic, endearing and relatable I felt like I knew them personally and was cheering them on until the end. Their relationship is steamy, a bit volatile, and tugs on the heart, but it’s the personal growth and the people they become that makes this such a spectacular read. If you like your romance fun, flirty and steamy, but authentic, endearing and emotional, you’ll love this book!

This book was so cute. The character arc for Phebe was amazing and so real!
And Brody was the cutest thing ever. This story touched on things
currently happening in the world and showed us a glimpse into the mental
state and world of corporate America. Specifically a woman in corporate
America. the ordeals that Phebe had to endure in this book were so
close to all of those stories we have heard too much of lately on the
news.

The slight switch in gender roles in this book was
refreshing. Brody was all for talking about feelings and was happy doing
a simple job that didn't take much effort (something everybody thinks
of housewives). While Phebe strived to make her mark on commercial real
estate and get a cushy corner office as well as being super
uncomfortable talking about touchy-feely stuff. Those simple details
truly enhanced the story for me. It isn't something that is stated
outright. Those characters had apparently always been that way,
according to their friends, but it became supremely evident when Phebe
and Brody are put together. The dichotomy was masterful.

It touched on matters of the heart and of money. It took its time but it
was by no means a slow burn. The love scenes were hot enough to burn bed
sheets.

It was amazing. and I can't wait for her next one.

I received a copy of this story from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

I've been on a romance binge lately so this seemed like a good read. And for the most part, it was a good read. Solidly okay. It wasn't anything to write home about and I've certainly read stories that drew me in more but I didn't finish this to finish it. I wanted to know how this was going to wrap up. I don't know that I'll read the next installment but I was happy enough with this one.

First, MAJOR KUDOS to Evie Claire for having a cover that even remotely resembles the leading man! It's one of my biggest pet peeves when the guy or gal on the cover looks nothing like the actual characters. So well done there!

Second, I love that it wasn't just about the romance. Obviously that was a huge driving factor but other elements - career, family, gender politics, etc - were effectively brought in to add more depth.

What stopped this from moving further up the star rating for me was that it seemed too easy. It was clear where it was going and the moments of tension or discord didn't last long enough. I wasn't emotionally drawn into the story. And that lack of a hook made me a bit sad.

I'd cautiously recommend this to anyone who:
- needs another beach-y, palate cleanser of a read after having finished a bunch of others

You have to love someone that says exactly what’s on their mind, I really enjoyed this book. The characters were fantastic. Looking forward to more from this author.

This is a wonderful book! It may be a little racy, but it has a story to tell as well. It is well written and engages the reader. I look forward to reading this author again!
Kudos.

I really loved Phebe. There’s not a lot of books about truly strong women, but Phebe nailed it. She says what’s on her mind, consequences be damned, especially in the man department. She has a hard time finding a man that can deal with her, that’s she pretty much just given up.
Meet Brody- sexy, tattooed barman that loves Phebe’s spirit and knows her better than she does.
There’s a lot of ups and downs in this relationship as Brody tries like hell to get her to loosen up, and she keeps fighting it like she always does. This felt like a real relationship, and reminds me a lot of my own- always pushing men to see who will outlast.
Even though Phebe is an alpha female, Brody totally holds his own and totally rules her in the sack. She doesn’t just give into a dude showing her attention like so many other books, and it’s a fight with herself until the end.
Great book!

The cover on the book is super hot and the blurb had me excited for reading this book. However, I could not connect with Phebe and Brody. I absolutely hate stories written in third person with alternating POVs. This story just dragged on without much dialogue between the characters and there was only two chapters with sexting in them. Phebe was a hard character to connect with because there's a fine line between strong and in charge and downright snobby bitch. She crossed that line one too many times. I really wanted to like this book but I only dragged it out for the review. Thanks for the ARC!

Let's Talk About Set is exactly what you think and it's perfect. Phebe is a high powered corporate real estate shark and Brody is an underachieving bar owner. Brody's got something Phebe knows she shouldn't want but needs anyway and Phebe is the perfect girl for Brody. This unlikely pair shows off what it means to care for someone against the odds and all logic.

3 stars for the cover, the idea and how much I wanted to love this. A strong woman is a good thing, a snobby and difficult to like, not so much. Our guy has great potential, has all of the good but I felt he never rose to book boyfriend level.
Could be just me so give it a go.

I personally think there should be a new troupe just having to do with texting. I think that this is a fun way to see characters flirt and it gives us readers a chance to see their thought process. This was the way I felt about this book. I loved these two characters but I also loved the games and discussions they would have during their texts.

These two characters were so different from each other it was fun to read. In this book, even thought they were opposites, they admired that other quality in the other.

Phebe is a ballbuster to the Nth degree. She works in a high pressure mans world and has to do more to prove herself because she is a woman. In many cases, this makes her come off as cold and harsh. Brody was able to see over that. He could see the woman she was so desperately trying to hide so she could be seen as an equal. Brody's laid back attitude and charm was what Phebe needed in her life.

While I mentioned above that they both admired their opposite quality in the other, it also made their fights much more. Phebe's gut reaction in a fight is to verbally hit below the belt and it take a strong man to be able to deal with that. Luckily for her, Brody is such a man!

I hate leaving negative reviews. I do. But that is part of the job of writing a book blog. You need to showcase the bad along with the good.

I did not like Phebe at all. From the minute she appeared outside of Brody’s bar, I got the vibe that she was a ball buster and a snob. My vibe was confirmed in the next chapter when she went from zero to witch on Brody. My dislike of her started around that time also. It grew and grew until the first breakup scene happened. That is where her true colors came out. She was a snob and was all about money. From that point on, I read her scenes a bad taste in my mouth.

I did like Brody but I thought that he was a pushover. I also couldn’t understand why he kept taking Phebe back after everything she put him through. I would have told her to go take a flying leap after what happened at the Boys and Girls Club gala.

Because of my dislike for Phebe, I couldn’t get into the sex scenes. They did nothing for me. If Phebe had been more likable, then the sex scenes would have been fun. But they were colored by her actions throughout the book.

I did like the secondary characters in this book. Phebe’s friends weren’t afraid to call her out and let her know how she was acting. When she told them what she said to Brody during their last fight, their reaction was the same I would have had.

I did appreciate the author trying to reign Phebe in. I did. But I didn’t believe that she changed in that short amount of time. I mean what she said to Brody was awful.

A bartender with Daddy issues

Who says that to someone that they loved? And over something that she had no business being a part of? What Brody did with that land was up to him. Not her. I would have booted her butt out of the door and blocked her number.

Which takes us to the end of the book. I know because its a romance, they are supposed to have a HEA. But in this case, I can’t see it happening. I have a feeling that Phebe and Brody’s relationship will be a quick one. Like a Kardashian marriage. I was left feeling unfulfilled by the ending. Which is something that I rarely feel when reading any type of book.

I would give Let’s Talk About Sext an Adult rating. There are explicit sex and sexual situations. There is language. There is mild violence. There are triggers. They are sexual harassment, women’s rights, talk of alcoholism and talk of parental neglect and abuse.

I would not reread Let’s Talk About Sext. I also would not recommend this book to family and friends. I would be open to reading more books by the author.

I would like to thank the publisher, the author, and NetGalley for allowing me to read and review Let’s Talk About Sext.

All opinions stated in this review of Let’s Talk About Sext are mine.
