Lovely, painful and comforting memoir. Beautifully, elegantly written. The core of the book is the author’s relationship with her mother during the year leading up to her mother’s death. The author weaves in memories of both their childhoods, years growing up and adulthood. Always circling back to their relationship and the inevitable loss of her mother and the special bonds between this mother and daughter.
This was a fairly short memoir, but one that makes you think. I enjoyed it.
I would like to thank Netgalley and the publisher for providing me with a copy of this book free of charge. This is my honest and unbiased opinion of it.
Well the writing was really lovely and the subject matter was was touching and thought provoking. However I'm glad it was a short book because I felt bruised the whole time I was reading it. I enjoyed the short dose I got of it, but was glad it wasn't longer because I found it a bit draining. Maybe it was a bit too close to home for me as I have an aging mother myself and it certainly does make you reflective.
