I loved the characters and the storyline development of this book. It was absolutely one of my favorites so far and I can't wait to delve in to the next one that this author writes. The storyline was simple, enjoyable, and entertaining.
First time reading/listening to this author. I really enjoyed the story. It was really hysterical in several places. I love when an author can make me laugh to the point that I have to re-read or rewind and listen to what was said again.
I'm definitely looking to dive into more from this author. Hoping she can maintain her standards.
I'm not the biggest fan of the male narrator of this audiobook. That being said, it's a true testament to the author and her writing that I enjoyed it anyway.
I would definitely recommend this book/author if you want a laugh out loud read.
Velma has a five year plan and a spreadsheet that would definitely make your knees shake. Her life changed when her sister uttered three little words...these words didn’t declare her love but involved her getting married. Sounds great doesn’t it but the man her sister is marrying is the one she has imagined a life with. She watched her dreams flutter away in the wind and her heart filled with sorrow. What she didn’t expect was Brek. He is definitely a breath of fresh air and will make her reevaluate her life goals. This book was absolutely hilarious. I laughed so hard at different scenes I was desperate to find out what happened next.
I knew I had to read this the moment I laid eyes on the blurb, but I frankly did not expect to love this book as much as I ended up doing! This was my second Christina Hovland book and I probably enjoyed it even more than the first one!
Going Down on One Knee is the perfect mix of humor, romance and smut! This had me howling in laughter at times, but I loved the message behind it all: you can’t choose love and above all: opposites attract!
Velma and Brek were perfect together, and I can’t wait to read the other books in this series to see who Jase (and Eli?) end up with!
I had so much fun reading this book that I will make Christina part of my one click author list. In fact, I already know that her next book will be out in February and I will have it.
Velma's sister told her she had big news and she was coming to her apartment to share those news. She thought they were moving in together but she was wrong. Oh boy, she was way wrong.
Brek is there because his friend Dean wants him to be around more and to tell the sister of his fiancé that they are getting married. He didn't count on being attracted to the woman and for her to be so funny, honest and sexy all in one package.
The two en up together trying to make Claire and Diane's wedding a success without messing everything else in the process. Do you think they succeeded?
This book was full of funny moments and romantic ones. I loved both main characters, the plot, the story, the writing, all of it. It was fantastic and I loved it so much I can hardly wait to read more from Christina Hovland.
I would recommend this book if you like romantic stories with comedy in between and characters that are just hilariously relatable.
I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book provided by Netgalley. The opinions expressed are my own.
The best way to describe this book is FUN. It was a light, fun read with lots of great banter. I really liked the chemistry between Velma and Brek and the wedding planning mishaps offered a ton of laughs.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
This was a cute book. A little slow at parts and Velma annoyed the living daylights out of me at times, but still cute.
Brek was a great character. I loved him!
This is my first novel by Christina Hovland and I absolutely loved it! I cannot wait to read more.
Summary:
Velma Johnson is the queen of plans. Planning for and knowing her next step makes her feel steady and secure. She’d like to say that everything in her life is going according to her long-thought out and carefully executed five year plan, but it’s really not. It started out great and she has the home and successful job to prove it. But her Mr. Right is very much taken. By her twin sister. That’s okay. She just needs to reassess. There has to be the perfect man for her out there. Preferably one that makes her heart pound, has clean nails, and cares about his financial future as much as she does. The one thing she does know is that Brek Montgomery isn’t that man. The badass biker is covered in tattoos and is more than happy to forego settling down in favor of wandering the country managing his band. He’s only in Denver long enough to see friends and family before he’ll move on to the next tour stop. Velma’s intense attraction (and his apparent return attraction) will just have to be ignored because Brek isn't the sticking kind. When Brek’s stay in the mile-high city is unexpectedly extended and he ends up as her roommate, their spine-tingling chemistry becomes harder to ignore. Brek is now the newest wedding planner in the city, thanks to his sister needing help. Between bridezillas and wedding mishaps, Velma finds herself getting closer to Brek, and closer to giving in to his many propositions. Problem is, Brek isn't the least bit like the kind of man Velma was looking for. Could stepping out of her carefully created niche break her out of her dating rut? Getting involved with a man like Brek isn't smart, but as long as she sticks to her plan everything will work out. Right?

The blurb got my attention on this one. I couldn’t help but want to read about a biker turned wedding planner. I really liked Velma. I think at first I worried her uptight and OCD nature would become annoying, but it was just adorable. She was a strong, confident, successful woman. That didn’t mean that she was good at dating. She was stiff, unsure of herself, and scared to open up to anyone for fear of rejection or harsh criticism. Showing this vulnerability endeared her more to me. I also loved that she could throw some sass, and that her growth as a character didn’t change who she was but more enhanced and added to her own unique personality. I adored Brek. He was the perfect mix of alpha bad boy sweetheart. He found his own niche in the industry he loves which took hard work and determination, not to mention patience. He’s a wanderer, but never hesitates to be right where his loved ones need him. My favorite part was despite his appearance as a playboy, he has a conscience and would never purposely hurt a woman, emotionally or otherwise. As a couple, they were very much an “opposites attract” scenario. They fit beautifully together, though. The chemistry between them was immediate, and only grew more intense as the book progressed, giving us some very sexy scenes. Their banter was easy and funny, too. They both were catalysts for the personal growth in the other, pushing each other to step outside their comfort zones in different ways. Overall, it was a book I didn’t want to put down. The writing was great, the plot well-paced and relatable. The added humor just made the romantic journey all the more fun. All of the supporting cast were likeable, and I’m so happy it looks like we are getting stories for Jase and Eli. There was the perfect amount of love, laughter, family and friendship to keep me invested. And I’m loving the group dynamics, and the history and connections that tie them all together. February can’t come fast enough for book two. ♡
This was a fun heartwarming read with a cute cover. This is my first read by this author and I really enjoyed this book. The title and cover are what first caught my attention then the blurb had me needing to get my hands on this book. This was the perfect opposites attract romance. I highly recommend this, it will have you smiling and laughing. I am looking forward to reading more from this author.
Fun sexy romantic comedy
Going Down on One Knee is the first book in Christina Hovland's Mile High Matched series.
Velma and Brek were such a wonderful couple. I loved their banter and watching how their relationship grew. The secondary cast of characters were all unique in their own ways and left me wanting their stories. I can hardly wait for book 2 Jase and Heather's story Blow Me Away to come out.
I received an advance reader copy via Netgalley.
Delightful funny laugh out loud romance! It was just what I needed. I would definitely recommend this one. I am voluntarily leaving my honest review after reading this arc.
Going down on one knee is a sexy, fun and sultry book. A book that will keep you totally hooked with the engaging characters, great storyline, fun moments and off the charts chemistry between the characters. It has the right amount of emotions, drama, romance, and fun. I’d definitely recommend it to romance fans.
I have to say that Going Down on One Knee was an amazing little surprise that I thoroughly enjoyed from beginning to end.
Going Down on One Knee is about a heroine who has an idea stuck in her head of what the perfect man for her should be and a hero that is everything that is opposite of what that idea is.
I think every woman can relate to our heroine, Velma, in some capacity. Whether it be that we can be a little stubborn and a little bit stuck on how we think things should or shouldn’t be. Or it could be the very vulnerable insecurities Velma has about herself and how others view her. Sometimes we can get stuck on how others perceive us, right?
What I also really enjoyed was how Christina Hovland wrote our hero, Brek, being the complete opposite of what Velma had as her ideal man. Brek is this carefree guy who doesn’t care how other see him… but maybe he just might care how Velma sees him.
Opposites definitely attract in the wonderful and endearing novel. Going Down on One Knee had me going from laughing and swooning to biting my nails in anticipation. I was captivated from the start and enjoyed every second of it.
This was the first book I have read by Christina Hovland but it won’t be the last because I loved this very funny cute stand-alone romantic comedy. Going Down on One Knee is a opposites attract romance with a bad boy hero and sweet loveable heroine who I fell in love with.
Badass biker Brek Montgomery spends his time travelling across the country managing Dimefront, a very successful rock band but he is back in Denver for a quick visit to family and friends but what was meant to be a fleeting visit turns into him agreeing to take over his sister’s wedding planner business when she is put on bed rest for the rest of her pregnancy. Brek hates the thought of dealing with bridezillas but one particular maid of honour could make it all worth while.....
Velma Johnson is a number cruncher who likes her employment as well as her personal life planned she could never take off on the back of a bike or get a tattoo but that doesn’t mean she doesn’t find Brek interesting so when he ends up in charge of her sister’s wedding she ends spending a lot of time getting to know the badass tattooed biker, maybe he can teach her a thing it two.......
If you are looking for a story that makes you laugh and leaves you smiling like a Cheshire Cat this is the book to read. I’m looking forward to reading more from this very talented author
Velma twin sister was Claire and her boyfriend Dean had bog news to tell Velma. Velma thinks she knows their news- they were moving in together. Velma had a crush on Dean for years they worked together as financial planner and they had worked together for years but Velma hadn’t made her move and Claire had Dean. Velam had a elaborate five year plan- she had step one and two- a successful career and a posh apartment that eventually rent out as an investment. Velam has spreadsheets and dating charts she tries to live by and keep trying to find Mr. Right. Then Velma saw a motorcycle park in a spot meant for Velma’s visitors. The man got off his bike and pulled off his helmet and was totally hot ,. Velma didn’t do badbutt. Then she found out the man was Dean’s friend Brek who would also have dinner with Dean, Claire, and Velma. After Brek asked what she did, he told her he was in the music business. He managed a band called Dimefront. +When Claire and Dean got there she showed Velma her engagement ring, Claire and Dean were getting married. Velma put a smile on her face. She could see Claire was excited and in love. Those grey eyes messed with Brek’s sanity from the parking lot to the kitchen. Brek liked Velma , she was stacked but also funny and sexy. Brek had seen a lot of fake smiles working with celebrities. Velma had flinched when Claire announced her engagement and her smile was definitely fake. Jase, Brek, Eli,Jase and Dean had been friends since HS. Dean asked Brek to be his best man. Ek]li will deal with the catering and Jase would handle the flowers. Claire asked Velma to be her maid of honor. They will be getting married in three months in August. Aspen id Nreks sister who has had a problem having a baby she is pregnant right now but was put in the hospital as she had went into preterm labor. Aspen was put on hospital bedrest and she asked Brek to run her business until she could again it had just started to pick up again. As far as Brek is concerned there was one thing worse than a celebrity rocker on a four day bender, it was a bridezilla who wanted the perfect wedding . He handles sound systems parties, drunk-off-their- butt musicians. Brek made good money and loved the thrill of his work. What he did not enjoy was an overly emotional woman in a pouffy white dress. But Brek could not stand to see his younger sister in tears and agreed to help. Brek is really not the type of guy to stay put in one location for a long time before he ready to move on. Brek and Velma had a hot chemistry even though Velma did not want to be attracted to Brek he wasn’t her type or fit into her five year plan. Brek’s mom was a matchmaker whom would happily work on a match for him, Brek rents a rook off Velma as he had t be there to run his sister’s business while she’s in the hospital. .
I really enjoyed this book. It was a light hearted funny romance. Where two opposite people can’t help but get together. I really liked Brek and Velma together and how they interacted. I loved how Brek stepped up to help his hospitalized pregnant younger sister even if it was the last thing in the world he wanted to do. I chuckled a lot while reading this. It caught my attention from the beginning and kept it to the end. I really liked the plot as well as the pace of this book. Brek and Velma are really opposite each other but make it work. I loved that the relationship grew the more time Brek and Velma spent together. I loved the characters and the ins and outs of this book and I recommend it.
Talk about romantic comedies. This is just what the doctor ordered if you are a fan of these types of books. Brek and Velma were great. Although, they had help in the form of friends and family. Which I hope to see more of again in the future.
Brek is like a fish out of water in the wedding planning game. He rides a motorcycle and plays guitar. Yet, family is important. So, when his sister needs him to help out, he is willing to lend a hand. Brek gets off to a rocky start with a bride that bails, a wedding dress covered in chocolate and dog puke, and invitations that look like a child made them with tons of gold glitter.
Velma is just as lost about wedding planning but if she wants her sister's wedding to go off without a hitch, she better help Brek. You could feel the heat radiating between Velma and Brek. They did not disappoint when they finally hooked up.
Going Down on One Knee by Christina Hovland was a terrific book that I loved reading. This story was funny and romantic with a real opposites attract theme. It was well written and had a smooth flow. The storyline was fun and believable. This author is new to me, but I look forward to reading more from Ms. Hovland..
What a fun and good story about two people Velma Johnson who has a good job, a good apartment but not a guy. She uses an algorithm on her computer after every date to rate the men she went out and so far nothing. Her sister found her mister right in the office Velma works in. Now they are getting married but want together so Velma can met the best man, his name is Brek. When a bad ass biker guy shows up in her parking space that man turns out to be Brek Montgomery. By the end of her night it becomes only worse for her because Brek needs to stay in town and take over his sister’s three wedding’s coming up including her sister’s. While agreeing she finds life completely different with a biker who walks around in his boxers showing off his tattoos, cursing just a few of were complaints. She also finds herself attracted to him but cannot date him because he travels as a band manger, does not have insurance and a retirement account. Can Brek break her down and if he does can it have a chance at working out. This is a very funny book at times especially with Brek doing wedding invitations, and not understanding why a bride would be upset with him using flag stamps instead of love ones. Seeing the change in both characters is fun to read also. Liked the story and the characters.
Cute and fun

I voluntarily read and reviewed an ARC from NetGalley.
This was a fun and charming book. Both characters were strongwilled and never thought they could work out. But the flow of the story and the depth of the characters made this a memorable read. If you want a lot of laughs and some tears you'll love this one.
