Velma is one of those organized people. Like really organized. She already has a five-year plan and her future is all set up, basically.
So she was a little shocked when her sister snatched Velma’s coworker Dean and longtime crush. She is happy for her sister but at the same time wonders if she’ll ever find her Mr. Right.
Brek is Dean’s friend and for the last months of his sister’s pregnancy also a wedding planner. He manages one of the biggest bands, but he has no clue about weddings.
Now I watch quite a lot of movies so there were a couple elements of this book that kind of reminded me of the movie 27 Dresses. I loved that movie (totally recommend), by the way, even watch it at least once a year. Back to the book.
If I compare this book and the movie:
-heroine in love with a coworker [check]
-heroine’s sister gets to marry said coworker [check]
-heroine sort of plans her sister’s wedding [check]
-heroine and the other wedding planner (well in the movie was a journalist but he helps too) are always arguing but there’s sexual tension underneath [check]
-heroine’s sister ruins make some changes to the wedding dress that is family heirloom [check]
-heroine likes to organize [check]
…
So you can see why I was skeptical this book would be a copy of 27 Dresses, right? Like one of those let’s-copy-everything-from-some-movie-but-change-couple-elements-so-we-can-still-call-it-an-original-book books.
But thankfully it wasn’t like this and that's’ where the similarity with the movie ends. The book was actually pretty fun with some sexy moments.
However, I did see what would be the cause of the break up almost since the beginning. I was disappointed that my suspicion came true. That’s why I have to give this book 4 stars.

Velma Johnson has a five-year plan, complete with a multi-tab spreadsheet, and she has all of her boxes ticked except for "the one." Every date she has never adds up to her perfect man, her best friend and co-worker who now also happens to be her sister's fiancee.
Unlike his best friend Dean, Brek Montgomery is a free-spirited wanderer who is only back in Denver for his best man duties. Oh, and to run his now bed-rest bound sister's wedding planning business. Brek is delighted when he finds out the cute, uptight Velma is the maid of honor, and he's extremely happy when he finds out she'll let him rent out her spare-bedroom while he plans her sister and Dean's wedding.
While Velma is shocked by her attraction to Brek, her opposite in basically ever way from his long hair, his tattoos, his cursing, and his complete lack of disability insurance (!!), she finds he may just be her perfect love match, spreadsheet be damned.
A delightfully fun rom-com, complete with a really hot motorcycle sex scene (I guess it can be done), I fell in love with Brek, a cinnamon roll in the streets, alpha in the sheets hero who is just blown out of the park with his feelings for Velma. I loved how he pushed her but didn't try to change her, and just overall really fell for this story.
This is also the second book I've read that had a motorcycle-riding, "bad-boy" moonlighting as a wedding planner, and I definitely enjoyed this one more. It was funner, more light-hearted, and just overall more believable in that the hero wasn't pretending that wedding planning was his actual job (Brek is a band manager).
That said, there were a few too many sub-plot points that weighed down the story for me to give it a perfect five star review, but I'll definitely be reading more in this series! I'm hoping Brek's buddy the sexy florist get's his story next!
This was a cute, lighthearted romance that had quite a few layers. The concept of band manager turned wedding planner was pure genius.
This is a cute opposites attract romance. Velma is a straight laced financial advisor with a five year plan for her life. When her sister gets engaged to Velma’s co-worker (and Velma’s crush), she is unhappy and a bit lost. In walks Brek, a tattooed, motorcycle riding, manager of a rock band. He is Dean’s best man, and ends up taking over the wedding planning from his pregnant sister. Since he needs a place to stay, Velma is persuaded into renting him her spare room. This is the set up for romance where Velma loosens up and Brek puts down roots. Both characters are very likable, the romance was believable. I did feel that the story dragged a bit with Brek’s handling his sister’s wedding planning business while she was on bed rest. If the plot had been tightened up a bit by eliminating the other wedding, I think this would have been a solid five star book. I still think this is definitely worth reading, and I cannot wait for the next installment of this series. I received an ARC of this book from NetGalley for my honest review.
I loved this book so so much! What a perfect, funny opposites attract romance. This is the first book I've had the chance to read by this author and I'm completely blown away. I normally shy away from third person narrative, but this book was perfect! I want more.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book and the characters. There was not one point that annoyed or disappointed me. The story was moving and endearing and I loved the relationship between Velma and Brek. Definitely worth the read. Great underlying messages about interpersonal relationships as well.
This book had a cuteness about it. Not sure if that was intended or not, but all the same, it was. The Heroine is a bit uptight and straight laced. It's not so much that she's a goodie two shoes, but she doesn't allow herself to really let loose and have fun. She has a five-year plan and a dating spreadsheet that rates the men she dates. The Hero is the bad boy type who has longish hair, tattoos, rides a motorcycle and manages a rock band. He's not one to settle down and stay in one place for long. Though he's supposed to be all bada$$, he doesn't really give that vibe. While on a break from the band, he agrees to help his sister run her wedding planning business when she gets ill, despite the fact he really knows nothing about it. Luckily he meets the sister of one of the brides and they become buddies and she helps him with his tasks. Of course there is some sexual tension. She's not like the groupies he's used to. She doesn't throw herself at him. She has a five-year plan and he is not on it. But he won't give up. He knew the moment he saw her, that he was going to have her. There are some laughs along the way. They both do things or say things that cause a riff in their friendship and threaten their coupledom. It was easy to read, and alternates between POVs. It does jump in time quite abruptly sometimes. The characters are doing something one minute and then in the sentence, it's hours or days later without any real transition. The sexual content is fairly mild. Nothing too overly graphic. There is some language (despite her swear jar.) :D The characters are enjoyable. Not too complex. Overal it was a fun quick read.
This was an awesome read about Brek who has to come into town for a few reasons but ends up helping his sisters job as a wedding planner. He stays with Velma. who is a little uptight and has a 5 year plan so she doesn't even give him the time of day even though she is attracted to him because he doesn't check off the boxes she has set. These two have an instant attraction and the chemistry is off the charts. I loved the wedding planning side of things it was hilarious all the mishaps that happened and I kind of felt sorry for Brek for having to deal with all of it but in the end he did good. This was a cute and sweet read and Velma had some serious insecurities but time with Brek helped her slowly get over them. I fell in love with Brek and slowly learned that Velma wasn't too annoying with her plans but she had her reasons. I highly recommend.
Great read, very entertaining!
Velma is single and her perfect man has just got engaged to her sister. Velma has a five year plan, and a dating spreadsheet to help her find the perfect husband. Then she meets Brek - he is everything she thought she didn't want - surely nothing can go wrong if she has a bit of fun and sticks to her 5 year plan right?
This is Brek and Velma book, Brek is a loner and is in charge of a rock band he has to go home for his best friends wedding and his sister talks him into running her wedding planning business whole he's in town because she gets bedridden due to her pregnancy! Well his best friend is marrying a twin and the ttwin sister is none other than Velma! They get thrown into planning the weddings together and it's a lot of fun! Not for them but for us! Lol I definitely enjoyed reading this book! It was funny and some heartbreak and heartache all thrown into a great light funny read!! Thank you NetGalley and the publishers for sharing this book with me!
