Switch off your phone, turn off the tv and curl up in a comfy chair.
Now prepare to visit Black Rock Falls.
One day in this town is beautiful the next day is crazy.
This is the fourth in the Detectives Kane and Alton serie. They just get better and better.
After reading this book I am never going hiking !!!!!!!
This is an explosive, exhilarating rollercoaster ride of a book.
Pay for view THRILL kills by a psychopathic killer. This book is everything I expect from this author and more.
It is graphic and very police procedural. I know that when one of this series lands in my inbox I am in for a he'll of a ride.
This is definitely my type of book, serial killers are my favourite genre and this one is nasty.
In the explosive climax when the killer was revealed it was a shock and not who I was expecting.
This is the sign of a good no brilliant writing. This author hooks you and gradually reels you in until you just have to keep on reading. I feel as though I have been running through the forest since the first page.
A really fantastic read. How much longer do I have to wait for the next in this riveting series?
Don't think I would like to live in Black Rock Falls people keep dying.
I would like to thank the author DK Hood, Bookouture and Net.galley for giving me the opportunity to read this book in return for giving an honest review.

This was my first book in this series and from this author. Needless to say, I'm hooked! I'm going to have to go back and get the other books leading up to this.

I did figure out who the bad guy was but that didn't take away from the story for me. I loved the storyline and the characters.

I will definitely be adding this author and series to my shelves! This was a solid 4.5 stars for me.

Another great instalment in the Kane & Alton series, I just love these stories and the way the characters interact with each other. I’m just waiting to see how long it will be before they finally get together.!!! Plenty of twists and turns to keep me engrossed and I have to say I thought I knew who the killer was but I was very wrong. I can’t wait for the next instalment, D.K Hood is a brilliant author!!!

When a skull is found in Black Rock Falls, Montana during hiking and hunting season, Detective Jenna Alton and Deputy David Kane are called in to investigate. Soon, other bodies turn up. As they go out on the hiking trails to solve the mystery, lots of things happen that kept me guessing until the end of the book. This is not my usual genre but I really enjoyed it and I enjoyed the characters of Jenna Alton and David Kane. I have not read any of the previous books in the series but I did not feel like I needed to in order to enjoy this book. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read this very good book.

Book 4 in the Detectives Kane and Alton series and it shows no signs of letting up. This is a great series with a team of detectives who are not really who they seem in a small town in Montana. Kane and Alton are a great team, working together in this town that sees so much crime and murder.

It is Hiking season in Black Rock Falls. Visitors comes from all over to hike the woods and go hunting. When a human skull is discovered Jenna and her team are called to investigate. There are no missing persons on record making it all the much harder. But then another body is discovered and this becomes a serial killer. They will have to enter the woods themselves to solve this case, but will they both return.... this killer is violent and cunning and very very dangerous.

This is a great series and I have no hesitation of picking up these books. Always a great read. Thanks to Bookouture and Netgalley for my advanced copy of this book to read and enjoy. All opinions are my own and are in no way biased.

I would like to thank Bookouture and NetGalley for letting me read ‘The Crying Season’ by DK Hood in exchange for my honest and unbiased review.
A skull and body parts are discovered by a hiker deep in the forest of Black Rock Falls, a small town in Montana, then as more bodies are unearthed Sheriff Jenna Alton and Deputy David Kane realise they’re searching for a psychopath who’s intelligent, sly and cunning, and who hates women. As they set a trap for the killer neither Jenna nor Kane realise they’re putting their lives at risk.
‘The Crying Season’ is the fourth in the Detectives Alton and Kane novels and is a worthy addition to the series. It’s exciting with a well-written and fast-moving plot, twists and turns, lots of suspects, and although I tried to guess the killer’s identity I found I was completely wrong. I was unable to put the book down and finished it in a day. When I reached the end it was so nerve-wracking I was sitting on the edge of my seat in horror. This is a great book and one I can definitely rec9mmend.

When visitors to Black Rock Falls stumble across a human skull Detectives Kane and Alton are left to investigate and find the rest of the remains,. Someone is hunting down and disposing of couples in the most violent and brutal way

A very intriguing and gripping read and just as good as previous stories in the series

This was the first time that I've read a book by this author. I must say that it had me hooked throughout. Plenty suspense to keep it from getting dull. I plan on reading more books by this author. I recommend reading this book.

One of the most fabulous thrillers written by D. K. Hood. Her last book was too dark for me, so I was a bit apprehensive with this one. But D. K. Hood proved me wrong on all fronts.

She used a fabulous concept of a pay per view channel and gave it heights that had my adrenaline soaring to a fervored pitch. The team of Jenna - Kane - Wolfe are back at the Black Rock Falls. And I loved every line of this book.

I read this in 3 hours flat and believe me, every part worked fluently to make me anxious to get to the bottom of it. I needed to know who the killer was, stat. And yeah, I didn't expect the person exposed at the end. The book kept me gripped till the end.

The team worked in great camaraderie, I liked their mutual respect and their movements were fluid. Each one knew the others' strengths. I keep expecting a romantic angle between Kane and Jenna... Well it just remains a hint of a whisper...  Maybe the next book would explore it more!!

Wow!! The Crying Season is an awesome read. I absolutely loved the thrills & action of this story. This is my first book by D.K. Hood but definitely not the last. I have to read the other 3 books. The characters Jenna Alton & David Kane are awesome personalities to these stories.
Right from the first page of this book I was hooked. With each page I was surprised & then I thought I have it figured out to realize I didn't know anything. Great story!!

This is my first read of this series and I wasn’t disappointed, completely my type of book in every sense, I love a good gory mystery and this certainly delivered. A serial killer is on the hunt in Black Rock Falls, Sherriff Jenna Alton and Dave Kane are on the case when a skull is found on a hiking path and with this discovery they uncover two more bodies (albeit fresher!). The killer appears to be hunting and videoing his kills and couples are in the firing line with the anger directed towards the women.

With the bodies count rising, can they get to the crux of it? When they figure out who the next targets are, they set up a sting… what could go wrong I hear you ask? C’mon where’s the fun in that, I was holding my breath throughout the climax of this book as I really did not know what was going to happen, will they all live to tell the tale? You’ll have to read to find out. Highly recommend, will be starting this series from scratch.

Many thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for an advanced copy in exchange for my honest opinion.

Detective Jenna Alton is called into investigate when a human skull is found on a trail in small town Montana. There are few leads in this obvious cold case, not even any missing persons reports, but Jenna and her team aren’t idle for long, as another hiker is found, shot in the head. As the bodies pile up. Jenna and her deputy are prepared to search every inch of the forest to uncover a killer before he strikes again. I love books with a strong, capable female lead and this book fills that bill nicely

3 and 1 / 2 stars

On a trail ride outside of Black Rock Falls, Montana, Sheriff Jenna Alton and her partner Deputy David Kane and others, including a pathologist, discover the skeletal remains of a couple in the forest. They were clearly hunted down and murdered. Shane Wolfe, a pathologist is a major character in the book as well. He is very good and gives detailed and informative descriptions of the wounds on the various victims.

These murders add to the burden of keeping the peace in a town where turkey, elk and deer hunting seasons overlap. Many fights break out as the testosterone fueled men go at one another.

Meanwhile, the reader finds out the identity of the killer and how they lure their victims to their deaths. He is a very careful planner and videos the whole “hunt” and watches it over and over to re-live his sick thrills.

After several murders with all of the victims being tortured, Jenna and Kane and the other officers decide to set up a trap for the killer. Working from the evidence they found and Kane profile of the murderer, they come up with a plan to trap him – for it is a man. Things go semi-awry and after some very tense moments, they have the killer.

Jenna is an interesting character. Being a former DEA agent, I would have thought that she would be made of tougher stuff. (Sexual bias of the author?) She seems to rely on Kane far too much. Her character is inconsistent and she is doubtful of her own abilities. Maybe Kane should be the sheriff. I mention it because it was more than a little irritating for me. Kane is very good at what he does. He is a martial artist and very quick and smart. He is also a profiler. I liked the character of Shane Wolfe. He is very good at communicating information.

I want to thank both NetGalley and Bookouture for forwarding to me a copy of this interesting book for me to read, enjoy and review.

Thank you to the publisher and the author, as well as #NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review "The Crying Season", the fourth book in the Detectives Kane and Alton series. Having read the previous three books, I could not wait to catch up on my favorite crime-fighting duo.
Welcome to Black Rock Falls, where one day it's beautiful, and the next day it all goes to hell! [I personally think that Black Rock Falls is the nexus for serial and stranger murder and mayhem for their entire state, judging by past cases that Jenna and Dave (and Shane) have been faced with.]
Led by the intrepid trio of Dave Kane, Jenna Alton and Shane Wolfe (forensics scientist extraordinary), the crew has grown to include original Deputy Rowley, sometimes (retired) deputy Walters and new recruits Webber and Bradford. And they'll all have to pitch in to deal with a string of murders that might go back a year or more.
When a skull is located on a hiking path and leads to two dead bodies, Jenna, Dave and Shane discover that someone is targeting couples who are hiking alone on out-of-the-way trails. It is determined that they've been mussing for over a year!
Then, another couple is murdered, and another is targeted, but the boyfriend survives to tell a tale of horror: they're being hunted and killed on the Internet!
The character development continues throughout The Crying Season, and a new character is added - an Indian tracker. Hopefully, we'll see more of him as the series progresses.
It takes a while for Jenna and Dave to get a handle on this one, but when they do, the climax is a literal cliff hanger, as they decide to set a trap for the ruthless killer.
I understand that there are at least two more books in the series, according to the author, D.K. Hood. I look forward to the further adventures of Sheriff Jenna Alton, Deputy Dave Kane, and Shane Wolfe (who wears so many hats that I cannot keep track).
Definitely recommended for fans of the genre - and everyone else should give this series a look-see.

Thankyou to NetGalley, Bookouture and the author, D K Hood, for the opportunity to read an advanced readers copy of The Crying Season in exchange for an honest and unbiased review.
I came across this author quite by accident earlier this year. I loved the first 3 books in the Detectives Kane and Alton series, so when The Crying Season was offered, I jumped at the chance to review this offering.
I found the storyline to be well thought out and written. I characters were engaging and realistic. This book will keep you guessing on the edge of your seat until the very end.
This book is thriller perfection in my opinion. D K Hood just gets better and better.
If you enjoy reading thrillers, don't go past this book. Definitely well worth a read.

Fabulous. This series just gets better and better. Terrifying plot combining good old physcopatic killers and technology. You can feel the fear in the victims. Sub plot continues to develop nicely but still no explanations why these particular people have been sent to this particular place to work together. The culprit totally threw me and gave a cracking twist

I would like to thank Netgalley and Bookouture for an advance copy of The Crying Season, the fourth novel to feature Sheriff Jenna Alton and Deputy David Kane of the Black Water Falls, Montana PD.

When a skull is discovered in the forest Jenna and the team head out to recover it and assess the scene. Along the way they find another skeleton tied to a tree. While pondering this another couple goes missing and it becomes clear that they are hunting a serial killer.

I thoroughly enjoyed The Crying Season which has a good mystery before a tense, action packed finale. It is told mainly from the investigators' point of view with brief glimpses into the unnamed killer's thought processes and actions. Normally my eyes roll at these glimpses and at some points they did (usually at his reasons) but I found his methodology interesting and insightful with regards to moving the plot forward. I think, though, that this is the first book in the series where I have guessed the killer's identity fairly early in the novel so either I'm more alert than usual (unlikely) or it is well signposted. It did not spoil my enjoyment of the chase and the denouement is well worth the journey through the novel as it is tense and action packed as I said. I felt myself getting stressed and wondering what would happen to the main players as I lived every minute with them. Kudos Ms Hood for getting this reader involved and caring.

Alton and Kane (not their real names) are former specialised law enforcement officers and are part of the Witness Protection Program and were placed separately in Black Water Falls, which has become the serial killer capital of America. I keep expecting to get some kind of update on why these specialists have been placed together, along with a third operative, Shane Wolfe, in this small rural town but nothing doing in this novel. What they bring is a wealth of much needed expertise and experience and a potential romance which neither of them has acted on so far. It's getting close to put up or shut up time.

The Crying Season is a good read which I have no hesitation in recommending.

DK Hood has done it again, book 4 in the Kane and Alton series is bloody brilliant, I loved it. Each book is better than the last so I am rubbing my hands with glee at the thought of getting book 5 in the not too distant future! Can I have it now please 🙂

The Crying Season was seriously good, it was full of tension, characters we have come to love and a plot so well written it will have you holding your breath and madly reading unable to put the book down.

We all love hiking right, it’s a fun safe activity. Black Rock Falls has stunning scenery and wonderful hiking trails and is very popular with locals and tourists alike. Is there something sinister happening in the forest? Is someone terrorising the hikers? Well as you know I am not one for giving away spoilers so you will just have to read this fabulous book to find out!

The book is fast paced, non stop action that smacks you in the face page after page leaving you breathless and on the edge of your seat. And that ending, just wow!

This book was awesome, I loved it. I am a big fan of DK Hood, this one gets a big thumbs up and if I could give it more than 5 stars I would, I reckon its a good 7.

Apologies for the short review, I am still recovering from cornea transplant surgery, it’s a long healing process and I am finding after a long day at work my eyes are very tired and sore. I think it’s safe to say though I thoroughly enjoyed this book!

This is my preferred type of book and it didn't disappoint, I thought I had guessed who was the murderer about half way through but I was way off. I liked the the tension between Jenna and Kane as it was made clear that nothing romantic was about to happen but it may in future books. As this is the fourth book in the series, I downloaded the first one and probably will get the rest too. I would like to thank the publishers and netgalley for letting me have the arc to review and the opinions expressed are entirely my own and are unbiased.
