This series just keeps getting better! Jenna and Deputy Kane have another killer in their mists and this one might just defeat them. Full of twists, the suspense is high and full of action. The relationship between Kane and Alton keeps you on the edge of your seat wondering, "Will they, or won't they?" However, the questions about their relationship never gets stale. With a shocking conclusion and an ending that frays your nerves and keeps you flipping pages, this book satisfies the suspense lover!
Firstly thank you to Bookouture and NetGalley for this advanced copy of D K Hood's 4th book in the series. Once again D K Hood delivers a cracker of a story. It moves along at a fast pace and before you know its over. It is gritty and at times you feel as if you are right there in the pages with Jenna and the gang. I loved every single bit of this book. It really does remind me of Karen Rose and Alison Brennan. I have no hesitation in recommending this book. Cant wait for the next one.
Fabulous Book #4 in the Detective Kane and Alton series. A serial killer who targets couples in isolated hiking areas creates chaos in Black Rock Falls. David Kane and Sheriff Jenna Alton work great together and have a developing relationship which I hope the Author takes further. They catch their killer but come close to becoming his next victims. I hope this series continues for a long time. Thanks to NetGalley, Bookoutre and the Author for allowing me to read and review this book.
The Crying Season is another great book by D. K. Hood featuring Sheriff Alton and Deputy Kane living and working in the mountainous part of Montana. This is the 4th book in the series and I can only say that it keeps getting better and better. I read and reviewed the last book and gave it 4 stars. This last one is definitely a 5 star.
There’s a serial killer on the loose in Montana and it’s up to the sheriff and her team to catch the killer. There’s a lot of blood and gory so if you don’t like that you should probably stay away from this book. The killer is targeting couples who spend at least one day of their trip camping out in the wild. The description of the area is absolutely amazing that even I who has never been camping felt like going.
The story is fast paced and very well written and keeps you moving on to the end. All ends almost well but not quite.
Thanks to NetGalley, Bookouture and D. K. Hood for letting me read this advance copy in exchange for my unbiased review.
Thanks to #NetGalley for ARC
New to this series, Hood did a great job at filling in the back story of the main characters, giving it the structure for a stand alone novel.
Sheriff Jenna Alton and Deputy Dave Kane are living in the small town of Black Rock Falls after events of their previous lives have landed them both in witness protection programs. Though the reasons for them both being there are entirely different, the burden of having a secret past creates a special bond. Just as everyone is getting back to normal after a serial killer case that occurred the year prior, Jenna has another mysterious case land on her desk. Two tourists find a human skull along a trail while hiking and what appears to be a simple explanation turns out to be so much more. Kane and Alton find themselves in the thrills of another tumultuous investigation.
This was a good read. The plot was tight and entertaining, however, I did feel it was predictable. There were parts of the book that kept me thoroughly engaged, while other left me to skimming. Perhaps it’s a personal preference, but as a reader, taking in the minutia of minor conversations and tasks in script is not interesting. Allowing the reader to make some assumptions is expected in certain levels of writing. This over analyzation of detail took away from some of the mystery/tension aspect of the writing. 3 stars
D.K. Hood has done it again. Another absolutely brilliant read!!! I had the pleasure to read this book on my holidays which was just as well because there's no way I could have put it down!!! So fast paced i was gripped from the start. Read it in a day. Only problem is I have to wait for the next one. It was an honour to read it. Thanks Netgalley and Bookouture for allowing me to read this book.
I devoured this book in a couple short hours. I just couldn't get enough of this book.
I love how alton and kane jave such a friendship that you can see how much they care. Kane is still a favourite as he is the protector and such a force in the books. Alton is still the same as she tries to prevent Kane from being her knight.
This series just keeps getting better.
Black Rock Falls, Montana -- "Beautiful one day, crazy as hell the next."
A merciless predator is stalking the trails and woods of Black Rock Falls during peak hunting and hiking season. The killer seems to focus on couples who are going off to secluded areas and trails to spend some quality time alone. But they don't come back and bodies have been found -- murdered in very gruesome fashion. Sheriff Jenna Alton and her partner, Deputy David Kane begin the painstaking process of investigation with hopes of finding this madman before there are more deaths. When they suspect that there have been cameras placed along certain trails, it comes to their attention that the killer may be linked to the Dark Web and pay per view. NO SPOILERS.
This is simply a very entertaining series with characters that have grown on me since book #1. Both Jenna and Dave have a previous life history of being covert operators and are now in Black Rock Falls staying hidden from those who knew them before. The pair has a great relationship that I wish would finally be taken in a more romantic direction, but I do appreciate that there isn't any "romance" in the books. They work well together and have set up a great support team to help with solving the crimes. The descriptions of the area are very compelling and set the tone for the dark investigations that seem to be cropping up in their little remote town.
I do love the series and can't wait for #5. Be sure to start with the first and read in order! Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for the e-book ARC to read and review.
