“Murders and Metaphors” by Amanda Flower It's an absolute gem of a cozy mystery that will captivate fans of the genre from beginning to end. The book seamlessly combines the charm of a small town setting with an intricately woven plot that keeps you guessing until the final pages. Protagonist violent Waverly is it a lightful and relatable character, and her ability to communicate with books adds a unique and intriguing twist to the story. Flower's writing is engaging and her attention to detail shines through, creating a vivid ending mercy reading experience. With a perfect balance of suspense, humor, and well-crafted puzzles, “Murders and Metaphors” is a must-read for any cozy mystery lover, and it leaves you eagerly anticipating the next installment in the series.
It's nice to have a break from Flower's Amish books even though I enjoy them. I liked this mystery though we seem to be directed towards one person as the most likely suspect. For those not into the mystical, this book really read more as a conventional cozy. One could easily ignore the "help" the bookstore gave.
I received my copy from Netgalley in exchange for my honest review.
This Series Is Great. Although I did love the first book more, this one did not disappoint. If you are a fan of Poe, this book has tons of references.
A small town, a magical book shop, and a mystery to solve. I wish there was more Emerson in this one.
Ms. Flower's character development was amazing. Even the the cat and the crow have amazing personalities.
Super fun murder mystery which kept me engaged throughout. Good characters, pacy plot and plenty to keep you turning the pages.
Violet Waverly, caretaker of Charming Books, and her Grandma Daisy are holding a book signing at a local winery. The author, Belinda Perkins, grew up in Cascade Springs and is the sister of Violet's dear friend Lacey.
Belinda stormed out of the book signing after a loud and public scene between the sisters. Her dead body is later found in the frozen vineyard by Violet.
Lacey quickly becomes the prime suspect so Violet needs to find the true killer.
This is another great book in the series. I highly recommend this series.
What a fascinating book. I was impressed by the storyline and the characters were all well written and complex. Where there are complex storylines combined with intriguing characters the reader experience is magnified tremendously. To have a book that is well written as well as entertaining is a delight. Reading is about escaping your world and entering another one. The word building was phenomenal in this book. Here I forgot about my own life and was immersed in the world created by the author. I would recommend this book.
I absolutely love the Magical Bookshop series! It's one of my favourite cosy mysteries.
As usual Amanda Flower created a nice murder plot in the small town of Cascade Springs, New York. There's a nice storyline and Flower leaves little clues throughout the story, pulling some unexpected twists here and there to keep things interested. I guessed who the killer was, but I wasn't completely sure until the end of the book.
Violet is still the same charming, witty character and Grandma Daisy with a young spirit and quickness. I was jumping in my seat to finally see some action between Violet and the handsome
Chief Rainwater after they danced around each other from book one. The character development from novel to novel is very well made and very satisfying to see them grow both individually and together.
I'm looking forward to see what the next installments will bring!
When Violet Waverly returned to Cascade Springs, New York, it was because she thought her grandmother was ailing. What she found was that her grandmother was well and hearty, and wanted her to come home after a dozen years away. Violet left because she had been betrayed by her then-boyfriend, Nathan Morton, who is now mayor of the town and still wants Violet.
But Violet discovered that she'd also unwillingly become the Caretaker of her family's bookstore and its magical tree inside - a tree that grew inside the home and allows the shop's books to find just the right book for the right person. A secret that the Waverly women have hidden for decades.
When a noted wine writer is coming to visit, the Waverlys are providing the books, and head to the Morton winery where the signing is to be. While there, Violet discovers that Belinda Perkins is not only not very nice, she's also the older sister of her friend Lacey. After Lacey has a very public confrontation with Belinda, Violet finds Belinda's body outside the home, and Lacey is the main suspect. Now Violet has to find out who really killed Belinda, or her friend's life might just be destroyed forever...
This is the third book in the series and I must say that I liked it much better than the first two. While the beginning almost lost me as I wasn't really drawn into the story immediately, I am glad that I stuck with it to finish the book. Once it got going it steadily drew me closer, and I found myself enchanted by the tale.
The fact that the book this time that Violet has thrust upon her is Louisa May Alcott's Little Women was an interesting choice. Watching Violet decipher the clues leading to the murderer were done nicely, and I followed along trying to decipher those clues myself, although it seemed I was having the same trouble as Violet, but that's not a bad thing.
When we get closer to the murderer, we find that not everything is as it seems, and other things are afoot that we don't really see. When the ending comes it does so in an intriguing manner, and leaves us realizing that the mind of a killer sees only what matters to them. Recommended.
Violet Waverly and Grandma Daisy have returned again in my favorite book shop in a special cozy mystery series. The serving is Cascade Springs New York just in time for the holidays. However, as we all know that something is going to go awry and luckily for us Violet is on the case. The bookstore was built around a huge tree that is watered daily with spring water that flows naturally close by. The most magical part of the bookstore is that when the customer comes in the book they want will be picked for them without them saying a word. There is romance and murder, mystery and quirky characters. A talking crow and a cat that you will love. This amazing magical story ha it all. If that is not enough there are references to Little Women which I found refreshing. I have really come to enjoy the cozy mystery series and the animals that make them remarkable.
Thank you to netgalley as well as the author/publisher for allowing me to read this book in exchange for my honest review.
This series is a lot of fun. I enjoy the members of the book club and the magic that the animals bring to the story. When I started reading this series I thought it was a trilogy and have just discovered there will be a 4th book. Yay! The adventures of a Grandmother and her Granddaughter is a great fit. :)
This is another great book written by Amanda Flower. I love her way of writing. The plot is well written and flows nicely. This books, just like her others, kept me reading well into the night
I enjoyed the first two books of this series under old publisher but was disappointed in this book under a new publisher. With all of the errors in both spelling and grammar, it made it very hard to get into the story. I also came across lots of places where the character names were all screwed up and the characters were also described using the wrong gender pronoun in numerous places. It almost seems like the published skipped the whole process of editing and proof reading to get the book onto the booksellers shelves. I will read other books by this author but I probably won't continue with this series.
I apologize due to a death in the family I was unable to read and review this book. I apologize to the author, publisher and Netgalley for my inability to follow through.
After a few years since the second book in he series, the third in the Magical Bookshop series comes back with a bang! Violet is tasked again with solving a mystery, and that the clue has something to do with Little Women was great for me because I really love this story. I definitely recommend this, and hope the next in the series won’t be so far away!
Amanda Flowers does it again! Violet Waverly and Grandma Daisy are back in the third release in the Magical Bookstore mysteries! I'm a hug fan of this series and the latest book doesn't disappoint. This time a booksigning turns deadly when Belinda Perkins (a noted (sommelier) is killed. As always, the sharp-eye reader will have to untangle the clues to discover which of the suspects is the killer. Amanda Flowers keeps us guessing until the very last page. Highly recommend!
What a fun series! I really enjoy the literature references in these books. This one has the focus on Little Women, although it leads Violet down the wrong path a time or two. When Violet's friend Lacey is a suspect in the murder of her estranged sister, Violet must step in and see what she can find. With hunky cop David around, and her old boyfriend who still carries a torch for her, it sometimes gets complicated. Have read a couple now in this series, and they get better and better. Highly recommend this book and series.
This is an awesome book! The murder mystery was very intriguing. Grandma Daisy, Emerson, and Faulkner are my favorite characters.
I received an ARC from the publisher and NetGalley for an honest review.
4.5 Stars Cascade Springs, in the Niagara Falls area, is home to several vineyards and January is ice wine season. When Belinda Perkins, a published sommelier wants to do a book signing during the Grape Harvest Festival. Belinda grew up in Cascade Springs and her sister, Lacey Dupont, is a friend of Violet Waverly, the caretaker/owner of Charming Books. When Belinda ends up dead at the winery, Lacey is the main suspect as they had an argument earlier in the evening. Can Violet find the real killer and get her friend off the hook?
This is a wonderful series full of books and magic. Charming Bookstore is a place where the books pick a reader. When Violet is involved in a mystery, the store presents her with a book and she needs to use the information in the book to solve the puzzle. It is not easy and definitely not straight forward trying to figure out the message from Little Women. The characters in this book, specifically Violet, Grandma Daisy, Faulkner the crow and Emerson the cat, all lend a paw or a beak to help solve the mystery. The setting is wonderful. The small town and the quirky townsfolk are great, but the store, complete with a magical tree growing inside give that whimsical, magical feeling. The mystery is interesting and engaging with plenty of twists and suspense. I was a bit surprised by the solution to the mystery, although it made perfect sense. I just didn't see it coming. All in all, a very entertaining and fun read. I am a huge fan of Amanda Flower and look forward to more books in this series.
I love a good cozy mystery series, with a little magic, a little romance, and a sweet bookstore setting, this had the chance to be a firm favourite from the outset. AS expected this was an easy book to read and kept me hooked from the first page.
As the third installment of the Magical Bookshop Mysteries, we find ourselves once again in Cascade Springs, New York, just in time for the holidays. I enjoyed being back with the familiar characters, location, as well as the “romantic” interest that has carried on through the books. Faulkner, the crow and Emerson, the cat are a couple of my most favorite characters. The bookshop is still throwing out clues as once again, Violette finds herself involved with another murder to solve! Suspects are plenty with red herrings to keep you guessing. This book will keep me coming back for more! I received a free copy of this book through #NetlGalley and #Crooked Lane Books in exchange for an honest review. As a fan of this series and the author, I was more than happy to review.
