Confidential by Ellie Monago was a fun, quick page turner filled with well-developed characters and plenty of plot twists. Overall, an enjoyable read!
Due to a sudden, unexpected passing in the family a few years ago and another more recently and my subsequent (mental) health issues stemming from that, I was unable to download this book in time to review it before it was archived as I did not visit this site for several years after the bereavements. This meant I didn't read or venture onto netgalley for years as not only did it remind me of that person as they shared my passion for reading, but I also struggled to maintain interest in anything due to overwhelming depression. I was therefore unable to download this title in time and so I couldn't give a review as it wasn't successfully acquired before it was archived. The second issue that has happened with some of my other books is that I had them downloaded to one particular device and said device is now defunct, so I have no access to those books anymore, sadly.
This means I can't leave an accurate reflection of my feelings towards the book as I am unable to read it now and so I am leaving a message of explanation instead. I am now back to reading and reviewing full time as once considerable time had passed I have found that books have been helping me significantly in terms of my mindset and mental health - this was after having no interest in anything for quite a number of years after the passings. Anything requested and approved will be read and a review written and posted to Amazon (where I am a Hall of Famer & Top Reviewer), Goodreads (where I have several thousand friends and the same amount who follow my reviews) and Waterstones (or Barnes & Noble if the publisher is American based). Thank you for the opportunity and apologies for the inconvenience.
They say to be careful who you trust, and for many - that trust is going to be called into question over a murder. As the many tangles of a web appear, catching more and more in its tender threads, things will be revealed that will shock the reader!
Be prepared to read this book in one sitting, you won't be able to untangle yourself!
amazing read! I truly enjoy this book, I couldn't put it down. Thank you, NetGalley for giving me a copy of this book.
Thank you to NetGalley, the publisher and the author for providing me with the opportunity to read and review this book.
3 stars
After reading (and loving) Neighborly, I was excited for Ellie Monago’s latest. While an interesting premise, I found myself only really caring about one of the three women’s story lines. Once you know the characters, there is not much action through the middle of the story. (Spoiler alert!) The end is clever, with a welcome twist, but felt rushed.
As a psychologist, I love a good thriller from the psychologist's perspective. It definitely gave me a lot to think about. I typically do not like open ended endings and would have preferred to have some closure at the end of the book.
A therapist dead three of his patients suspects a tense thriller so well written.A story that kept me guessing to the end,my favorite kind of thriller full of twists and turns,#netgalley#lakeunionpublishing%
Thank you to NetGalley, the publisher and the author, for an ARC of this book, in exchange for an honest review.
I enjoyed this book. I thought it was original, creative and interesting.
I liked the author’s writing style, how she told the story using the 3 characters that the detective suspected.
The ending was shocking and unpredictable.
I would definitely read another book by this author.
Confidential by Ellie Monago is a murder mystery that captivates you until the very end.
Description: From the bestselling author of Neighborly comes a twisty novel of psychological suspense about the lies three women tell to survive, and the ones they’d kill to keep hidden. Everyone loves therapist Michael Baylor. He’s handsome. He’s respected. And he’s provided a safe place for his female patients. Now he’s dead, and a detective is casting a tight net for the murderer—because the good doctor may have done some very bad things with the women who trusted him. That’s if their stories check out. There’s Lucinda, who struggled to process her childhood trauma even as she was falling in love with Dr. Baylor. Greer, an accomplished career woman who was torn by her sudden desire to have children, so she went to Dr. Baylor for help but may have gotten more than she bargained for. And then there’s Flora, a beautiful former patient who’d been on intimate terms with the man she called Dr. Michael for two years. Some might even say she was obsessed with him. Three women caught in a tangled web of lies and secrets. And each with a motive for murder. With so much at stake, can any of them be trusted to tell the truth?
This story is about a psychotherapist, Michael who is found dead. Suspected in his demise are three of his patients. The characters are interesting and overall the story was an interesting read.
I was provided this book free of charge in exchange for my honest opinion. I definitely enjoyed reading Confidential and give this a 4 Star. The one thing I would have worked more on was the cover, otherwise it is a book you should definitely read.
A great read. A little long, but enjoyable nonetheless. Well plotted with some complicated intriguing characters. A fab psychological whodunnit. Recommended
I enjoyed this book. I work in the field of medicine and mental health so it is easy to envision how people who are putting their trust in a therapist/clinician could be taken advantage of by that person if both are not cautious. This story is well-told, in that it keeps you guessing and is told from multiple points of view. I found that this perspective really left you feeling as though you were in the therapist's sessions with the patients.
Well done thriller. Definitely recommend.

I received an Advanced Reader Copy. I am voluntarily leaving a review. This is a murder mystery. Michael, a psychotherapist has been found murdered and three of his female patients are persons of interest. We are given each of their stories in their POV. It is an interesting well-written story. The minute you think you know who did it, you get thrown in another direction. Lucinda, Greer and Flora are all complicated characters. Michael is possibly a sociopath. I enjoyed it.
3.5 Stars!
Dr. Michael Baylor, a thriving therapist is found dead and the top 3 female suspects have only one thing in common…the dead therapist. Confidential was an overall page turner with characters you love to hate. I love that it’s written in first person narrative giving each character a distinct voice. I think this could have easily been a 5-star read, however the “open” ending did not work for me and left me a bit disappointed.
Thank you to the publisher via Netgalley for an e-arc copy in exchange for an honest review.
I positively adored this fast-paced and gripping murder/mystery. It was very well written by Ellie Monago, with perfect pacing and rounded off with brilliantly drawn characters. I never once lost interest in the storyline. Highly recommended! Rating: 5 Stars
I received a complimentary digital copy of this novel at my own request from Lake Union Publishing via NetGalley. This review is my own unbiased opinion.
A great who-done-it book that kept me up all night to get to the very end!!!! What a great and intense read!
The story started off well and was interesting, but the ending left me bored. The ending was very disappointing and made me ask why I finished this book.
Overall I thought this was a decent thriller. It tells the story of Dr. Michael Baylor, a therapist who may or may not be using that as an in with some needy and damaged women clients. The story alternatives between three women who happen to be or have been his clients: Flora, Lucinda and Greer. They each have their own issues and reasons for seeing him and that plays into the detectives investigation after Michael is found dead. I didn't like the detective really and I felt like there could have been more investigation or something. The story felt a little slow at times and a little too much unnecessary extras.
. Best thriller/drama/mystery I’ve read in awhile. What a book! I could not put it down and suffered a “book hangover” the next day but it was so worth it. I spent way more time the next day reading than I should have but I NEEDED to know what came next. Some mystery or thriller type books you can see what is coming a few pages in, that was not the case for this book. I went and bought a copy for the Mom’s I know so that I can give them a copy for Mother’s Day!
Confidential by Ellie Monago . Unfortunately this book was just not for me... Therapist Michael is found murdered and an investigation ensues . The investigation is centered around his clients , all women who are needy and beautiful.. The chapters go back and forth between the POVs of the women and slowly their stories emerge from childhood or bad marriages, and them all have feelings for Michael While, I did not predict the killer to be right, the rest of the book was too predictable for me..
Nothing is worse than a woman who is betrayed by someone who is supposed to be helping her. This psychological thriller shows that in many ways with the reactions of several women. He’s messed with the wrong women.
