If you are in the mood for a good mystery that will have you guessing to the end, this is the book for you! What is the connection between the characters? You won’t find out until the very end, so buckle up and get ready for a ride! There is a very complex plot and the road to the end is slow and emotional. Putting together the pieces of the puzzle that make up this book makes I a wonderful read! Praises for Jane Corry and her amazing talent!
Thank you to NetGalley and Pamela Dorman Books for my advanced review copy. All opinions and thoughts are my own.
Jane Corry fans, you won't be disappointed! This is one wild and bizarre story that keeps you on the edge of your seat. You won't be able to think of essential oils quite the same way again...
The beginning seemed to take awhile, but the characters were interesting. Halfway things started to get a little twisty and I was thinking this is going to be a 4 star review. By the end though, things just fell flat. I was expecting a great twisty reveal at the end but it just wasn’t there. It was still a good read though.
Very engaging read with characters you can't stand, characters you feel sorry for & other that your opinion changes with each chapter. Will recommend to all my mystery lovers!
The Dead Ex examines the lives of 4 women, interrelated, although unaware. When David is reported missing by his wife, Tanya, his ex-wife, Vicki, becomes the prime suspect. Knowing that she had nothing to do with his disappearance, Vicki confronts Tanya, who winds up dead. Vicki suffers from epilepsy and has periods of memory loss, making her uncertain of what actually happened. Meanwhile, in alternating chapters that are set years earlier, we are introduced to Scarlet and Zelda, who have there own struggles and idiosyncrasies. As the story progresses, we learn how their lives intertwine and the real circumstances behind David’s disappearance and Tanya’s death.
This was a fun, suspenseful read. Although I figured out early on the main twist, there were other surprises along the way which propelled the plot forward. The author deftly wove the stories of the different characters into the plot, however I do have to say that I wish the characters had been a little deeper. Overall, a good time!
Many thanks to Netgalley, Pamela Dorman Books and Jane Corry for my complimentary e-copy ARC in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.
3.5 stars. This story was of the kind that makes me feel on edge the whole time I read it- a main character who readers aren't sure how to trust (since her medication causes memory lapses, she can't even say for sure what she did or didn't do) and touches on one of the topics that's hardest for me to read about (kids being seperated from their parents- whatever the reason for it in the story, this is always a topic that stresses me out in fiction). The story is like one of those coin funnels- it started rolling out slowly but by the end, when Vicki must reveal her full story, it's very fast- and I couldn't stop reading.
I had a hard time getting into this, but once I did, I couldn’t put it down. Once it gets going, it is gripping and really hard to put down. Definitely recommend to fans of mysteries, psychological fiction, and women’s fiction.

I found this to be a pretty average story. I enjoyed parts of it but it got pretty dull in the middle. I enjoyed Scarlet's story the most in the beginning but by the end I wished that she would have matured during the story but she basically was acting the same as an adult as she did when her story started as a child. The conclusion was surprising but I didn't feel like there were any clues that would have led me to that conclusion so I was a little disappointed. The title was also misleading. In the end I just felt disappointment.
I received an ARC of this novel from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
I loved the ending of this book. The novel gets better and better as the story line continues.
What if your ex husband disappeared? Would you be sad, concerned, or maybe…glad? Vicki tells police she hasn’t seen her missing ex husband in years, but they don’t believe her, and truth to tell she’s not so sure herself. What does David’s disappearance have to do with Scarlet, whose mother’s games of make believe included selling very real drugs to users? This is a twisted novel that truly kept me guessing for most of the book. A read sure to be popular with fans of the genre
