Journey King has a problem. Her abusive, destructive father is trying to take over the family business. She needs help to take him down, and she needs it fast. She turns to Frank, the sexy alpha man with all the information. The chemistry between them is smoking hot! What starts out as simple lust, turns into something more. With all the demons in their past, can they learn to rely on each other, and open their hearts? I love how they seem to rescue each other! Great read, that has me impatiently waiting for the next book!
I have been looking forward to Frank and Journey's story after meeting them in Beckett and Samara's book.
Journey King has learned the art of maintaining appearances and ruling her empire with a cool hand. After all, her mother was the Queen B in charge for long enough to provide a role model in that aspect. But the real introduction to putting up walls and showing no fear came much earlier in life at the hands of her sadistic monster of a father Elliott. That man still evokes real fear and hatred in the heart of all his children but for some reason Journey always bore the brunt of his focus. When he shows up to make a power play for the company he has showed zero interest in for years with the clear intention of making her life miserable in the process, Journey knows she needs help that only a man like Frank Evans can provide.
Frank is a fixer in every sense of the word, from the information he deals to the solutions he finds for problematic situations to the strays he tries to quietly help. He has no illusions about the fact that Journey is broken in some way but he knows he should steer clear. Not only is she his best friend's estranged cousin, she pushes every single one of his buttons in a way that is dangerous to his sanity. He vowed after his mother died that he would never again allow himself to get emotionally entangled with someone who didn't want to fight for themselves and he can't quite get a handle on Journey's issues- or how smart it is to look closer. But he can't deny her request for help.
What starts as a business arrangement quickly becomes real. The sparks fly, and as Frank says- like recognizes like. They are more similar than they ever realized, and they each heal something in the other. That doesn't mean it's all rainbows and lollipops though. Aside from the havoc Elliott is creating while they try to figure out his endgame, they are faced with resistance from family and the specter of old racist views embedded in the older set of the Houston southern elitist ranks.
The Fearless King packs in plenty of suspense and heat for an enjoyable 2nd installment to this series. Three King siblings remain to have their demons exposed and I can't wait to see which is next after finding out more about them. There is oldest brother Anderson who has always been the protector, youngest brother Bellamy who has some middle child issues, and baby sister Eliza who was drawn back into the family's maddening dynamics in the most horrible way. Whichever one is up next, it is sure to be interesting!
The Fearless King by Katee Robert is book Two in The Kings Series. This is the story of Journey King and Frank Evans. I have read the previous book and Journey and Frank were in that book, but this can be a standalone if you wish to do so. Journey mother has past and now Journey wants to secure her mother's business but her evil father is back wanting to take over. Journey fears no one but past fears about her father does set her back. Thinking that Frank would be the perfect decoy for her to have him pretend they are in a relationship to help her stay strong. But feelings of her and Frank's love / hate is turning more to love...but can these two strong people become one.
Enjoyed their story and this series!!
These dysfunctional Kings really bring out all the crazy in this one. When her father returns in an attempt to take back control of the family business, Journey King knows she is going to have to take drastic measures to prevent it. Turning to Frank Evans for help may be the most drastic measure of all. It's no secret he isn't a fan of the Kings but he is the only one who could turn up enough dirt to keep her father at bay. Helping Journey isn't something Frank really wants to do but he knows that turning Journey down will be impossible for him. Posing as Journey's boyfriend Frank begins to dig. Soon he realizes that he'll do whatever it takes to keep Journey safe and happy.
This is a well done book and I love these characters. Definitely a book I recommend.
The Fearless King is the second book in the “Kings” series and this is the newest series by Katee Robert and I am in love. There is something so unique about how this author writes her stories and she delivers some wonderful suspenseful elements that are mind-boggling and just immediately pulls you into the story. The Fearless King I have been waiting on for almost a year and I had so much fun time reading this one last night and boy I read this book really quickly.
The Fearless King features our main couple: Journey King and Frank Evans. We saw some explosive chemistry between these two in book one, so they have that whole I hate you but lust after you type of relationship going on. Journey is one of the King siblings and helps run their mother’s business. Now that their mother is gone, it’s up to Journey and her brothers to keep it going and repair the damage done to it. But then her father comes back to town and is taking over the company. Elliot is the only person that Journey fears, Elliot (their birth father) was highly abusive to his children before their mother convinced him to leave. But now he has stepped in and worked to manipulating his children. Journey and her siblings are working at getting Elliott removed somehow, but when Elliot finds out about Frank, he wants him removed from her life by any means necessary. Soon Frank’s life is in danger and Journey will protect him no matter what.
What a wild ride this book turned out to be and I honestly had such fun with this story. Not quite as much as book one, since I did have issues with these siblings in “The Last King” but I did like Journey’s character and loved the relationship we see between her and Frank Evans. Frank is black and so many people especially Elliott and her grandmother disapprove of her relationship because of his ethnic background, or even how the police officers that get involved treat him just because of his ethnicity. I really liked that Robert addressed this issue and showed that there needs to be more acceptance in the world and how bad some are treated because of certain prejudices.
There is quite a strong level of suspense and boy this book had my heart racing from beginning to end and I was so entrenched in this story and how this book was written. I was impressed with how this author wrote this book though and the level of intrigue and dangerous elements that are portrayed and I am curious over which sibling will be next. I am hoping its the next sister because of what we see happen to her.
The romance that develops between Frank and Journey is quite fun. There is a strong angst level, but not too overpowering. They have explosive chemistry of course, and at first its a “fake relationship/fling” like tropes but it quickly develops into more when we see how much these two try to fight the emotions they feel for each other. They both have powerful personalities and I liked seeing them find the right balance in their relationship.
The Fearless King was a story of delightful sexual tension, mind engaging storytelling and a romance you want to cheer on!!! AN EMPOWERING TALE!
After several years Journey King sets her eyes on her father. And each time she sees him she all but shrivels in fear. What is in her past with him and what of her future? Well, it becomes clear that there was a danger there and that it is present now. One night Frank Evans sees that Journey is in trouble. They discuss the fact that she is in danger, although she leaves certain details out. Frank agrees to pretend to be her boyfriend. Frank wields a lot of influence in the business community and he can open doors and discover facts that Journey cannot.
Frank definitely has a lot on his plate. Not only is he enthralled with Journey, he is at odds with her family, the powerful Kings. If he was not already at odds, he quickly makes himself their enemy. One of the issues is his race. He is told that he is "beneath" Journey. Then, there is a secret from his past that he would like to remain buried, although he certainly held no culpability in that matter. In any case, Frank vows to keep Journey safe.
The Fearless King is the second book in the Kings series and it was a great read. As I read The Last King just prior to this book, I enjoyed this one more. There is no denying the fact that Frank and Journey are incredibly drawn to one another, and there is also a lot of drama going on. As mentioned, the race issue comes up, and this happens more than once. Also, there is an ever-present danger facing Journey and that is definitely compelling. All in all, this developed into quite a suspenseful story, and I felt very invested when it came to working out both the past and the present.
Prior to these two books I haven't read anything by Katee Robert, but, she has definitely written a lot of series. No doubt, she has a strong fan base, and I enjoyed familiarizing myself with her work.
Many thanks to Forever and to NetGalley for this ARC to review in exchange for my honest opinion.
After reading The Last King, I couldn’t wait to get my hands on the next book in the series and when I found out Frank was going to be our lead man, I was ALL over it ~ even before reading the blurb ~ and boy was it worth the wait! Intense, smexy and all kinds of craycray. This one definitely upp’d the ante in more than one way and I loved every second of it!
If you look in the dictionary under the world ‘Complex’ Journey’s picture would more than likely be there. She’s gone through hell, and though she still bears the scars, she’s found a way to not fall apart. She’s strong and determined and I love the way her mind works. Frank is all kinds of alpha AF delicious. Strong, dominant, compassionate and charming in his own special way. His life hasn’t been kind, but it’s turned him into a strong man who will do anything to protect his own.
Their journey to their HEA was an interesting one from the start. The smexy between them was nuclear and the battle of wills that happened every time they were around each other simply up’d the tension between them. But it was when they bared their souls and let each other in, well that was when I knew they were perfect for each other. Nothing between them was easy, but I loved how they ended up giving the other everything they never knew they needed.
The crazy in this dysfunctional family definitely got kicked up a few notches in this one. I knew it was going to be intense, but there were certain scenes that made my own skin crawl. The twists and turns were all thought out and executed and I’m looking forward to where the story goes from here. As for the secondary cast of characters, I loved catching up with Beck and Samara, and I’m definitely looking forward to getting to know the rest of the King siblings, as well as some of the Evans Inc men, better, but it’s Esther that I’m fascinated by and need to know more about!
The Fearless King is definitely not what I thought it would be. It was better. I jumped into this series with this book and I have no regrets. (I need to go back and read book one though!)
Journey is the kind of woman I want to grow up to be. She is strong, smart, and when she gets out of her own head, a force to be reckoned with. Now, Frank on the other hand....
Frank is devilishly handsome, cunning, and a master planner. He is everything sexy about this book. The chemistry they have is delicious. Not gonna lie, I would totally take Frank home if my hubs weren't in the picture. Protective, supportive, and sexy- that's the stuff dreams are made of.
Enjoy The Fearless King because I have a feeling you may just fall for them all.
Nobody writes broody, sexy heroes that you just want to curl up with like Katee Robert, and this book is HAWT! I like my men alpha and Frank was EVERYTHING. Dirty laundry, fake relationship, and amazing sexy times. I loved it!
I have been waiting, and waiting for this book and I was so excited to start it! Both main characters are so intriguing, and as a couple they were dynamite!
Journey King is hanging on by a thread. She's COO of a major oil company in Houston, TX, run by her family. But, her mom was run out of town by her estranged cousin after Lydia did something truly horrific, and now Journey and her siblings are on their own. At least until her own personal nightmare comes home to roost. Her father, Elliott Bancroft, the "beloved screw-up" of his rich and powerful family has returned to Houston and is making a power play for the King's company. But, what everyone else in the world doesn't know is how Elliott physically and emotional tortured and abused his children for years, until their mother found out about it and forced him out of town. Ever since, Elliott has been Journey and her siblings' personal boogeyman, always in her nightmares. Now her worst fears are coming true, and she has no idea how to stop it.
Frank Evans deals in real estate, but also in information. When he helped his best friend, Beckett King, take down his crazy evil aunt Lydia, he had no idea how his path would intertwine with Beckett's cousin, Journey. Frank grew up privileged, until his father went to prison for a crime he didn't commit, and died there, and his mother basically died along with him. He's been on his own a long time, and only keeps a close circle of his "strays" around him. People he's helped out, or given a second chance in life, who now work for him, and are loyal to him. When Journey asks for his help, he decides it's worth the risk of angering the Bancroft family to help her, but he doesn't expect their white hot attraction to completely change his life.
Frank and Journey have been dancing around each other since book 1, and their connection was palpable, and jumped right off the page. Their physical chemistry was red hot, but their personalities, quirks, and broken pieces seemed to fit together too. It was quite the whirlwind watching them figure their way toward being together, and making their relationship work in the world they lived in. Journey didn't need a champion, she just needed the confidence Frank's consistent backup gave her, to be her own champion. Frank didn't need to fix Journey's rough edges, he needed to make her understand he accepted her as she was, just as she did for him.
Journey's siblings and their family dynamic was quite interesting. It seems the 4 of them broke into pairs at some point and became closer to only that one sibling, as opposed to the group as a whole. I'm sure it was part of a coping mechanism from their abuse, but I think what happens to her sister Eliza in the story, serves to help them see the distance between them, and begin to close the gap. Both their parents are complete psychos, and they are all each other has left for family. I also would've liked to see some interaction and acceptance from Journey towards her cousin Beckett. He has extended the olive branch to his cousins and I would've liked to see them accept it in a more meaningful way. Perhaps we'll see more of that if there are future books. I know the younger brother, Bellamy, will be in a separate series coming soon from the author, but I'm so curious about Anderson and Eliza. They each deserve their own story.
My only issue with this story was that I wanted more. I wish we'd had a little more closure to everything, as I felt a TON of things with the lives of the Kings were left up in the air, and I have no clue if we'll get to see more. An epilogue would have been amazing. But overall, this book was heartbreakingly authentic and honest in it's portrayal of childhood abuse and how that can carry over and manifest itself into issues in adulthood, even with therapy, and doing everything to try to correct the damage. Journey was much stronger than even she realized, and she wasn't willing to let her monster of a father ruin her life again. Frank was a gentle giant with a much bigger capacity for love than he gave himself credit for. I really hope we get to see more stories in this world, as everything about it engages me, and sets me on edge for what's next.
I adored this second installment in the King series! Journey is a strong, yet flawed character. Frank stole my heart early on with his integrity. Lines of consent are crystal clear in this great smutty romance!

Loved this book! Journey is a fierce heroine and it's steamy and exciting! Our interview will appear on release day!
Just wow! From start to finish I loved this book. Suspense , passion love hate betrayal, family drama. This book has it all. I can’t wait to read more about this family
This book starts out with a lot of information and quite a few characters. It makes you feel like you’re missing something when you start the book. It’s fast paced at the start and takes off running. It was hard to get past the first few chapters because I just felt confused.
Journey King and Frank Evans are both people who have had a lot thrown at them in life. Their bi-racial relationship was the least of their problems. Journey is almost powerless when in the presence of her father. She can't let go of her absolute fear and terror of him. Flashbacks to the abuse she suffered at his hands as a cause her to do the unthinkable - ask for help.
Frank knows that something is up when he sees Journey unraveling in front of him. He is a fixer by nature and is always looking for a new "orphan" to put back on their feet. He knows Journey is possibly too broken for him but steps in any way. What transpires is a bit of back and forth between these 2 while they try to find equal footing.
The book was quite interesting and played out like a drama on tv. I think you really would need to have read the first book in this series to truly understand what is going on and the dynamics between the characters.
Although Journey and Frank both have drive and find true joy in succeeding in the business world, both need the other one to bring out the best in each other. I liked how their story was just an easy build-up. It took some time for these 2 to get their acts together with each other. Both of them showed growth and an ability to put the other one first when it counted most.
The ending was interesting and I am intrigued to see what is going to happen next with this series.
I received an ARC from NetGalley for my honest review.
4.5
Journey King has always been confident in her ability to run the family business successfully, and since her mother's ousting from Houston, she's gotten her chance to show that she can definitely step up. That is, until her father returns and decides it's time to flex his majority shares in Kingdom Corp by becoming more involved in the company.
Not sure what her father's end goal is, one this is for certain, his presence brings back all the horrific memories of childhood at the hands of her father, which is enough to throw Journey and her brothers off their game in running the company. Journey knows she needs help from someone outside the family and outside of the company. The only person she can think to go to is Frank Evans.
Frank has spent years building his family name back up after its fall from grace when his father was convicted for a murder he didn't commit. Frank knows better than to get involved with volatile King family. But when Journey King comes to him for help with her vulnerability on on full-display, he can't turn her away. As they investigate the reason for her father's return, and try to make sure the company stays afloat when all is said and done, the simmering feelings they have for one another threaten to boil over, but first they'll have to survive being in her father's cross-hairs.
I guess I'll start with a little item that didn't really work one way or another for me on the this story. And that is the fact that Katee Robert decided to slip in the trope of the "fake boyfriend". I guess in order for Frank's sudden presence in Journey's life to feel legitimate they concoct the story that they've just begun dating. Obviously it's a valid idea, but I felt like it was something thrown in at the last minute as, after all is said and done, looking back, it was really an underutilized aspect of the story. It didn't bring them into contact more often than they already were, and it didn't really gain Frank anymore access to the Kings than he was able to get anyway in my opinion. It was really a moot point for me.
But now that that's out of the way, I can talk about how much I loved that Katee Robert took a storyline that could have followed certain preconceived notions of how a romance is supposed to go and turned it on it's head. I'm speaking specifically about the fact that even though Journey shows her vulnerabilities and she certainly has a lot of baggage where her relationship with her father is concerned, she doesn't wait for others to step in and save her, she saves herself time and time again. But it's never in a reckless way, running headlong into battle, no. Journey knows exactly what her capabilities and strengths are and she plays to them in order to succeed / survive. When she goes to Frank for help it's not so he can charge in and take care of her problems, it's so they can work together.
Frank for his part, and based a lot on his familial past, wants to swoop in and save the day for Journey. He wants to take her out of the equation of danger, but in order for Journey to move forward and to have some semblance of healing from the past, he has to let her take charge most of the time. I love that he does. With little to no conflict with that scenario Frank understands Journey's need to face her demons. They are a wonderful pairing and Katee Robert wrote the best kind of book / plot to bring all of this out in her characters in the best way. The Fearless King is romance and thrilling, family and drama.
I do wish we would have gotten a little more of the friendship angle that Journey has with Samara (whom readers will remember from The Last King). It's there, but I could have used a few more scenes of them.
A lot of secondary focus is placed on the youngest King sibling Eliza whom I'm assuming is going to be the next one to get a book. As stated above with the female friendships, I'm hoping similarly that we'll get more of a sisterly bond between Journey and Eliza in her book. Not giving away anything, I can see why Katee Robert didn't elaborate on this in Journey's book, I'm just hoping it's been saved for Eliza's as I really love the relationship the siblings seem to have with one another (brought closer by the past they all survived) and I'd love to see it expanded upon.
Overall, I really enjoyed Journey and Frank's book. So far, this has been a stellar series from Katee Robert. I can't wait to see how things continue to unfold for the Kings.
Journey King looks like a tough girl on the outside and she handles herself in her families company. It's all a facade that quickly crumbles when her father shows back up in her life and tries to take over the company. The king siblings were all abused by their dad but very few people know this. Frank Evans isn't exactly a friend to the Journey but she needs help and she doesn't want her brothers to get involved if she can help it and Frank is a powerful man. I loved these two together. Frank starts holding Journey up at the beginning of this story but slowly with Frank's help and patience Journey takes control of her fears. When Frank gets threatened all bets are off. She turns into a total bad ass. I love how these two are a team. One of the great things about this book is there is no way to guess what's coming. It's a surprise right up to the very end. I can't wait for book three.

YOU GUYS!!! THIS BOOK WAS EVERYTHING!! I loved Samara and Beck in book one but honestly knew that Journey and Frank were going to own me. And frankly (no pun intended) - that's exactly what they did. I loved them so hard as this book legit came out of nowhere for me. In full transparency, it's obvious that bloggers read alot of books, right? Sometimes more than we physically should (as sleep deprivation is a real thing.) But honestly, The Fearless King is one of the few books I can think of that had me making deals with myself "for just one more chapter" and then grudgingly crashing at two am to only start reading again five hours later. This book was OUTSTANDING. I legit died for Frank and Journey. Their chemistry, passion and connection between them lit my kindle on FIRE!!!!
While this is the second book in the King series, it is a standalone, but, in my opinion, best enjoyed after reading the first book. When Journey King needs protection from her father and his dangerous mission to take over her family business, she turns to Frank Evans, a dangerous and ruthless businessman who deals in secrets and lies. But when lines get crossed and emotions erupt, their fake relationship turns into something very very real.
I absolutely LOVED this story! It pushed all my swoony buttons and had everything I love in a story. Sassy heroine, uber protective alpha and scorching intensity and attraction between our couple. The storyline was so consuming and addicting and I never wanted it to end. I love how the author was able to showcase Frank's protectiveness and the idea that it was ok for Journey to be a little bit damaged and bruised. Her strength was inherent in her drive to succeed and pick herself up. GAH!! I absolutely FLOVED this story, couple and would read about them forever if I could. I seriously will read anything Katee Robert writes and I can't wait for more!! Bravo!!
I would like to thank NetGalley and Forever for an advanced copy of this book for an honest review. Bravo! 5 stars! ~Ratula
3.5 stars. I really enjoyed the beginning of the novel, but I felt like the romance aspect lost its way around the second half. I was looking forward to reading about the fake-dating and enemies-to-lovers tropes, but it didn't really pan out that way. The fake-dating was mentioned in the beginning, but never actually played out. I did enjoy reading about Journey and Frank, but I think I would have enjoyed a few more scenes with with them playing out one of the tropes. Instead, them getting to know each other took a back burner to the suspenseful plot.
Great book!! This is Journeys and Frank book, journey is running the family business and her father heads back to Houston trying to get the company right out from under his daughter! Journey turns to the best of the best for help, that's Frank evans! Frank knows better than to get tied up with the king family but something about journey just pulls him in! This book was a really good read! Great writing, it was hot, angst, action, heartache, a little bit of everything! Definitely don't miss out on this one! Thank you Netgalley and the publishers for sharing this book with me!
