This is the fourth book of the series but can be read as a stand alone. Great characters! Things got on the crazy side for a while there. Will they or won't they? It had the best ending. Yay! A well written Historical Romance Highly recommend.

This book pulling me into its historical setting from the first page and made me fall in love with the characters. Daphne is a "spinster", at the old age of 25, that has always had a crush on Paul, the bad boy duke, who has burned almost every bridge with his behavior. When fate throws them together when Daphne loses something dear to her, their relationship begins to change.

I loved the love story and romance between Daphne and Paul, but, even better, was that the author made me feel totally engrossed in their world. This was a world where women had very few options, which is clearly portrayed in this novel.

For me, the mark of a great novel is if I can lose myself in the story because the author makes it feel real, even when told in a different time. This is such a book. While this is the first book I've read by this author, it won't be the last. I've added her to my must read authors' list.

When I received this book to review, I could not wait until the release date! Janna MacGregor’s books are that good! Lord Paul Barstowe has lost his two best friends Pemberton and Sommerton, due to his youthful stupidity and arrogance; however, his friendship with Lady Daphne Hallworth has always been one that he treasured. Daphne, sister to Alex Pemberton, has kept a diary (forever) and has written of her feelings for Paul, as well as her grief and anger surrounding her sister’s death. When her diary is stolen, Paul is there to help, despite the fear of her family’s retribution. As they endeavour to recover the book, their attraction and feelings for each other become difficult to hide.
This was such a wonderful story, that had many twists in the plot, keeping me reading long into the night! Once you get a copy, you will not be disappointed, especially as couples from previous books in the series ‘The Cavensham Heiresses’ are woven into the storyline.

She had something stolen and Paul became her hero, working hard to get it back....even when it seemed he would have to sacrifice himself.
This tale is woven with emotions .. angst, joy, fear, sorrow and colorful descriptions of people, places, customs, and the dress of the day, and few sultry scenes.
I requested a Netgalley copy to peruse and am happy to report that it's just as engrossing as the previous Caversham Bride tales.

I literally could not put this book down. I laughed and cried so many times my husband thought i might have gone crazy. Little did he know i was on an amazing journey, captured by the love and beauty this author drew me into. I cant express how much i enjoyed this book. Only that I cant wait for more.

Another enjoyable story from Janna MacGregor! Her characters are all so human and do not suffer from "perfect" syndrome. I especially like the fact that main characters from previous books still exhibit behavior from time to time that makes you want to kick their backsides! You do not have to have read the previous books to enjoy this one. You probably will want to later to get the back story on some of the characters. Paul, the duke in the title, has exhibited bad behavior in the past, mainly to get some attention from his father. A side effect is he has lost most of his friends in the process. Now that he is alone with no family he tries to redeem himself as his beloved older brother wished. Easier said than done. His oldest friends hold big grudges and refuse to have anything to do with him. He enlists the help of the younger sister of one of them, Daphne. Daphne has also had trials in her life and has decided her life must change. She is willing to trade her help for Paul's help retrieving her private journal that has been stolen. As the two work together they become close again and share their secrets.

I normally don't read this type of romance, but I needed a light reading since I've been with a really bad cold for over a week.
It was a cute novel for a Christmas story. It had me chuckle at the main characters. It was a very lighthearted love story. Who ever is a big fan of historical romance will enjoy it.

What a wonderful book. I loved it!

The Good, the Bad, and the Duke grabs the reader's attention from page one. The description of Daphne as a child plays out like a movie in my head and I could not wait to read the rest of her story. Borrowing a page from Home Alone, Lady Daphne Hallworth is forgotten in the chaos of packing the family up for the Christmas holiday trip. Pushing aside hurt feelings for being forgotten, Daphne decides to explore her independence and finds trouble along the way. Her brother's enemy/former best friend and a rake to boot, Paul Barstowe, the Duke of Southart rides to her rescue. Labeled useless and no good by his father, Paul goes out of his way to live up to the reputation he was given and clearly deserves. Lady Daphne alone sees the good in him and makes him want to be a better man. A whirl wind romance full of flirtation and impending ruin, the story is sweet with a touch of heat to keep the pages flying by. Proving once again that bad boys make the best reformed heroes and that chivalry is alive and well, the book satisfies and leaves you wanting more. I enjoyed this book, it was well written. The story kept me interested with the plot but especially with the characters. Paul is my favorite character, you find out why he did bad things and feel his pain as to how he feels about himself. Daphne was special as well. I highly recommend this book, you won’t be disappointed.

This was another one of those stories about a Spinster. One that is not just on the Shelf but Under the Shelf by the standards of the era. I have gotten a bit tired of the Spinster storyline. These young lady's of this era were married off as very young girls. As early as 15. By 21 they were called a Spinster. At 25 You were not even thought of as a possible bride. Daphne was beautiful, rich in her own right and from a powerful rich titled family. So I didn't understand why she had to be a spinster. Why not just a young lady in her late teens to 21? That would have worked better. Then the story would have gotten 5 Stars from me.

So I guess you wonder why I gave it 4 stars. Well because I absolutely fell in love with these characters the H/H Paul Barstowe The Duke of Southart and Lady Daphne Hallsworth, Spinster! They are two lonely people who are looking for love and connection to someone or something in life. I felt there loneliness and lack of confidence in themselves. They were to very moving characters, that you will root for them to get there HEA.

Paul and Daphne have been friends since she was a very young girl. She was the sister of Paul's best friend Alex Hallsworth Marquess of Pembroke.

When Daphne is left alone and forgotten by her family at Christmas, she is rescued and reacquainted with Paul who is now the Duke of Southart. They both have common causes to help others and there romantic adventure begins. Both are lonely and alone at Christmas time.

The story is very romantic and Hot very sensual. There are surprise twist and turns. Lots of characters to come to love and you want to know more about.
The end of the story was perfect!!

Paul rescues her when she tries chasing the thief down and promises to help her retrieve her journal. They have been together several times while searching for her property. They are also, bidding against each other for the building that they both want for their own charity. The attraction and love has grown. Paul knows that her family will not accept him due to his reputation. Daphne promises to help him reconnect to his former friend. When things are beginning to look up for him, a big secret comes out and he knows that they will never be able to be together. I thought this was a great book with a wonderful storyline. First book I have read by this author but I plan to read the rest. I loved it. There are a lot of twists and turns which only adds to the story. This is my first book by this author. I enjoyed the book and it did not interfere with the story at all that I had not read any other of her books that came before this one. Very enjoyable. The concept was different than I had read before so I enjoyed that. I liked the two leads, especially Paul. Worth your time! I received a free copy for my review and here it is! This is the next novel in the series and it follows Lady Daphne Hallworth and Paul Barstowe, Duke of Southart. They have know each other since they were children. However, Paul's rakish ways caused a rift between the Hallworth family and Paul. Many think the worst of Paul, who as a second son should have never inherited. When he sees Daphne in a place she shouldn't be, he "rescues" her and learns her diary has been stolen. The diary could ruin her family. Paul promises to help her, but they also have an issue with a building they have both placed a bid on and he wants her to get her family's support by approving of him. Daphne is independent and wants to open a home to unwed mothers while Paul wants to honor his late brother's memory by opening a hospital. As Daphne and Paul spend time together, their feelings of love have never disappeared. However, a secret that comes to light will impact their relationship as well as the knowledge found in Daphne's diary.

I like JM a lot. Her characters are unique even if the story lines and nepotism tropes are traditional. A lot of emotion and redemption to be found in the hero of the story. I really like Paul a lot!

I just can't say enough about this book. I was hooked from the first page to the last. This was one of those books I couldn't put down.

You already get the gist of the story from the blurb so I don't need to go over that, I will say that this story has a gossip rag, stolen property, family secrets, mourning, learning how to deal with loss, second chances, family love, HEA and so much more.

I recieved this book in exchange for a review while on vacation. I was on my way home and was very excited since I had nothing to read. Let me just say that I when I got home everything in the car is still there. I have been so captivated by this book, I could not put it down.
Right from the beginning, where Daphne and Paul work together to save the baby bird from the cat, you could see the connection they had.

The story then moves forward in time to when Daphne is 25. She is considered a spinster and firmly on the shelf. She wants to pursue her charity and lead an independent life.

Paul, after the passing of his father and older brother, is now a Duke. He is considered a rake. He used to be the best friend of Daphne's brother. But that relationship has been destroyed by Paul's past behavior.

When Daphne is forgotten and left home alone by her family at Christmas, it is Paul who comes to her rescue. Without her brother around they rekindle their friendship, which leads to further feelings for each other. Of course, eventually, her brother must be faced.

This story was well developed. It flowed easily. You connected with the two main characters. You felt their friendship and their love for each other. You felt their hurt when each talked about losing a sibling who was also their best friend.
This book evokes every emotion. Love, joy, sorrow, anger, happiness, need, desire and gratefulness. It has a few twist and turns. As I said, completely captivated from the opening of the book.
