I've been following the Siren Cove series since its inception. I really liked the first novel in the series, had problems with the second and am pleased to report that this third novel in the series was a huge improvement over book 2. Despite the slightly redundant title, this friends-to-lovers, serial killer whodunit/romantic suspense novel was a very good read and it gets 4 stars from this reader.
This novel centers around two best friends practically from birth, Paige and Quentin, who admit to loving each other (as friends) but who have chosen different paths in life. Paige Shephard has remained in her hometown of Siren's Cove, Oregon, and now owns an operates Old Things, an antique store. Quentin left Siren's Cove, made a name for himself as the owner of 5 successful
West Coast restaurants, and he's back in Siren Cove to open his sixth restaurant, having just purchased what was once The Poseidon Grill. No one is happier to see him than Paige, who is in her early thirties, and who has used Quentin as the yardstick by which she's measured every other man she ever dated, and none of them measured up to Quentin Radcliff.
The two 30-something best friends seem to have successfully navigated the treacherous waters of the "a man and a woman cannot just be friends" relationship, and while both are attracted to one another, and admit to loving one another, handsome and charming Quentin has had no problem filling his bed with attractive women for both year-long relationships and one-night hook-ups. None of these women have ever measured up to Paige, but he's not ready to settle down and start raising a family, while Paige sees how happy and successful the two couples, who were the primary characters in the first and second books in the series, have become, and she wants that for herself. Since Quentin will be in Siren's Cove for several months trying to get The Poseidon Grill cleaned-up, modernized and refitted, he and Paige eventually agree to risk their friendship by becoming friends with benefits, agreeing that if things don't work out, their lifelong friendship will remain intact. Although the two characters seem to hit it off in bed, the sex scenes between them were pretty vanilla, and very lackluster. Simply telling the reader that the sex is passionate is far less effective than showing the reader exactly how passionate it is, at least for this reader.
As the novel opens, Paige is at the farm of elderly Zeb Stillwater, buying antiques from the huge hoard of items in his immense barn. His grandsons show up and accuse Paige of trying to cheat the old man, but Zeb is adamant that Paige paid a fair price for everything she bought. Paige leaves and has two more buying appointments that day, and it's not long after that that the break-ins begin at her antique shop, and the mystery of who's breaking in but not taking anything begins. What the reader has already learned in the prologue, is that there is a serial killer of women who's been staying beneath the radar for decades, burying his victims in remote areas and none have yet been found. That's about to change, especially after Paige and Quentin go to cut down Christmas trees for her store and home and find a tarnished silver necklace snagged on a log in a nearby creek, a find that will put Paige in serious danger. I do have to admit to finding myself disliking Paige for being utterly clueless about her own safety. Quentin, buys her a dog, but Paige still repeatedly forgets to lock her doors, and repeatedly goes off alone in search of both antiques and following what she sees as opportunities to take the suspicion off Quentin, and putting herself in harm's way.
As mysteries go this one wasn't bad. There were plenty of red herrings throughout, two more women who were both connected in some way to Quentin, who also go missing, leading the police to suspect him, and enough other suspects to keep the reader guessing the identity of the killer, at least until the halfway point of this novel, and even then, you have your suspicions that the author may be leading you down the wrong path. While I'm not a huge fan of mysteries, this one worked for me, and so did the fact that the two friends had more than a couple of obstacles in their path to an HEA ending. I also liked that the author used alternating narration, which drew you in to what Paige, Quentin and the killer were thinking, and the cherry on top of this romantic suspense mystery sundae is a mad race to the finish, and a truly satisfying ending. While this novel can be read as a standalone, the characters from the previous novels get more than just a walk-on in this one, and I suggest reading these novels in the order in which they were written.
I voluntarily read an advance reader copy of this novel. The opinions expressed are my own.
Get ready to follow the clues while reading this dynamic romantic suspense title featuring childhood best friends Paige and Quentin who are reunited when Quentin returns to their hometown to refurbish and open a restaurant. Paige owns an antique shop in Siren Cove and routinely spends her time driving up and down the coast looking for antique objects she can feature in her shop. When Paige and her dog stumble upon some newly unearthed skeletal remains little does she know that she’s about to play a deadly game of cat and mouse with a killer who will do anything to keep his identity secret. Get ready for a budding romance that is surrounded by mysterious clues, suspicious characters and enough creepy incidents that will keep you up all night! I read a complimentary copy of this book provided by Kensington Books through NetGalley and all opinions expressed in my voluntary review are completely my own.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an ARC in exchange for an honest review. Jannine Gallant is great at writing in this genre and this is the third installment of the Siren Cove series. There is a feeling of contentment to the entire book, a special connection between all the friends and family that the reader feels a part of. Paige and Quentin's relationship has evolved and they are now a couple, and when an old murder and skeleton gets revealed by Paige, the murderer the becomes anxious when the murder weapon is sold by mistake to Paige at the Old Things Shop.
Not a long read, but enjoyable none the less.
Paige owns an antique shop in Siren Cove. Quinten is her best friend. He has moved home to open a restaurant. As the lifelong friends try to figure out if what they have can last or not, two women have vanished, and Quinten is the last one who has seen both women. Can Paige figure out who is behind this before he strikes again? I loved this book I was hooked from the first chapter.
This book has it all murder suspense and a love story in the making. The author keeps it al going you don't get lost on one aspect it flows nicely.
A novel of romantic suspense, Hidden Secrets is set in a small town along the Oregon coast. Paige owns an antique store and her best friend Quentin is opening a new restaurant in town. Neither has found their perfect partner, and they begin to wonder if there could be more to their relationship. That story is complicated by the fact that Paige appears to have something in her antique shop that a murder wants to remain hidden.
I enjoyed reading this book because of the romantic angle to the story line. I'm really more of a mystery fan, but the "mystery" in this novel seems a little too neatly wrapped, rather easy to figure out who was the murderer. However, the romantic storyline seems real and a bit different from many other romantic suspense novels.
Hidden Secrets by Jannine Gallant
Siren Cove #3
Cozy mystery with romantic suspense and a friends to lovers romance thrown in for good measure made this a book that I could not easily put down.
Paige and Quentin have been friends since preschool but never taken that friendship beyond BFF status. When Quentin comes to Siren Cove to ready his latest restaurant for business he and Paige do move on to a new relationship level with the understanding that no matter what happens when he leaves they will remain friends...hopefully. At times Quentin seemed a bit immature to me but he did grow as the story progressed.
With a serial murderer on the loose, break-ins, kidnappings and arrests this book was fast-paced and action-packed. There were plenty of potential suspects but in the end the serial killer was dealt with.
It was fun seeing the couples from previous books and I wonder if there will be more books in this series or if Siren Cove has seen enough murder, mayhem and craziness and the author will move on to another place to write about...or perhaps remain in Siren Cove and maybe have a tamer romance for a change? Hmm…
Thank you to NetGalley and Kensington-Lyrical Press for the ARC – This is my honest review.
4-5 Stars
Hidden Secrets is a fabulous murder, mystery and great romantic suspense. I loved the balance between suspense and romance never compromising on one or the other. I would definitely recommend this book and series to readers
Hidden Secrets by Jannine Gallant is another Siren Cove book. It is a suspenseful book with danger, mystery and romance. There is a balance between the romance and the suspense, blending both together wonderfully. The two main characters, Paige and Quentin have a long friendship, with that develops into more. When Quentin becomes a suspect in a police case, they must work together to clear his name. Especially with the uncertainty in their relationship, the romance seems realistic. The danger and the suspense kept me on edge trying to solve the break-ins and the missing person case. There are twists and turns in the cases that make several people suspects. The level of suspense rises with those twists making the ending unpredictable but perfect.
This series gives you a kind of “Twin Peaks” look at a small town, not the warm homey place most would want to live. Hidden Secrets is a haunting mystery, romantic too but not cozy at all. Like the others in the series, it can be read on its own. Also there is not a cliffhanger or unresolved issues between the two main characters.
This was one of my fun, cute mystery reads, a romantic suspense, you could say. It was a nice diversion between the intense thrillers and not so intense books.
Jannine Gallant writes this genre fabulously. There is a cosiness to the entire book, a special warmth between friends and different characters of the book. But mind you, it is a murder mystery but nothing graphic about it. So that doesn't remain in the forefront.
Paige and Quentin have been friends forever till they cross the line with a kiss and get into romance and relationship. Meanwhile an old murder and skeleton gets revealed by Paige, and the murderer starts getting antsy when the murder weapon is sold by mistake to Paige. The story rolls on...
This was an easy 2 hour read though I went slowly through its pages as I wanted to savor the entire atmosphere of a small town life. I had begun to guess the identity of the murderer, but I soon stopped following the clues. So my niggles were told to shut up. I just wanted a good, sweet mystery which I could read without too much stress or concentration, and this book fit the bill.
This is the 3rd book in the series, but can be read as a standalone. The other characters of the first 2 books are friends of Paige so they just make fleeting visits in this.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book and would love to go to Siren Cove Village. The characters were well defined and I loved the mystery. The romance was pretty good too. This book makes for a great beach read. Thanks to Kensington Books and to NetGalley for providing me with a galley in exchange for my honest opinion.
A delightful page turner. Fun friend romance. Starts off really creepy, but then it switched to a love story atmosphere. Good friend relationships. Humorous dialog. Not quite a cozy mystery due to the near foul language, but not too over the top. Plus some intimate details, but once again, not so much as to be offensive. An entertaining romantic suspense tale.
A very good mystery that I really enjoyed,
It's fast paced, well written and engaging.
I liked the characters, their relationship and the setting.
The mystery was entertaining and kept me guessing till the end.
Recommended!
Many thanks to Netgalley and Kensington Books for this ARC
I thoroughly enjoyed both this book & the series. Fast past with well-rounded characters, this author is now a must read for me.
Hidden Secrets is the third book in Jannine Gallant’s Siren Cove series and unfortunately I have somehow missed books one and two. A wonderful murder mystery, Hidden secrets has all the required elements to ensure the readers total satisfaction. Twists and turns, multiple suspects, with a little romance thrown into the mix, make this a intriguing and well-written romantic suspense. Now I’m going back to read the first two books in the series.
Surely Quentin isn't a killer. Paige is sure of it. Not after they've connected romantically after years of friendship. They're both building businesses in the small town of Siren Cove and things are looking good but then a cold case is reopened and more bad things happened. This is romantic suspense set in a small town (I'd move if I lived there given the body count in this series of slightly interlocked books.). It's nicely written and twisty enough to keep you engaged. Thanks to net galley for the ARC. You know how this is going to end. Or do you?
If you need a quick escape from your real world, this novel is it. It's one of those cosy suspense/Mystery romance novels. It can be for a beach or fireplace reading.
This takes place in a quaint little town along Oregon coast. The story focuses on a young lady who owns a shop purchasing and selling antiques and her best friend who just purchased a restaurant and is in the process of having it remodeled. They decided to have a relationship after being best friends for many years.
There are events which unintentionally heads in the direction of an unsolved missing person case from years ago. That case reopens to a murder case. Several ladies disappears. The clues point to hero as a suspect. The heroine sets to find out who's breaking into her store, finding possible suspects for those missing women and the murdered teenager.
Keeps you guessing who the real killer is until the end. I enjoyed the mystery, the little town and its inhabitants. It was such a delicious read on a cold night for me.
Low 4 stars from me.
I received this cosy ARC from Kensington Books/Lyrical Press through Net Galley. Thank you!
I received this arc from NetGallery for a honest review.
I enjoyed reading “Hidden Secrets” by Jannine Gallant. It had alot going on which kept me intrigued to find out what the ending was going to be like.
The romance and building relationship between the two main characters, Paige and Quentin, was sweet.
The book kept my interest, it was well written and a very suspenseful read.
This is the 2nd book I've read by Jannine Gallant. I enjoyed this one as much as I enjoyed the 1st. The tension waiting to see who the bad guy is builds nicely, and the ending was perfect. Definitely will read again.

Thank you Netgalley and Kensington Books for the ARC.
With a sigh I finished this delicious cosy murder mystery filled with well rounded characters and exciting fast paced storytelling.
Paige, a buyer of inventory and owner of the Old Things shop, and Quintin, a restaurant owner, have been friends since childhood. They both enjoy the relative calm of Siren Cove village, until they stumble upon an old object that reopens a cold case. They end up in quite a whirlwind of bad situations, meanwhile trying to take their friendship to the next level.
Although I figured out whodunnit about halfway through, I fully enjoyed the speed that led to the conclusion. Hidden Secrets is a pageturner, highly recommended!
