I really enjoyed this entire series! I know I read this book years ago, but somehow never posted a NetGalley review. This series was a great combination of romance and suspense.

***Note: Deciding not to review this book since I am no longer interested in reading a book by the author after her scandal with SH. I do want to add that it’s gross that the publisher put this book as print on demand just because this is a m/m book with a POC lead on the cover rather than the usual mass market release. I just need to get this book off my feedback list.***

Well damn. I really wanted to like this but it was a struggle from start to finish.

The plot was weak, the writing felt off and flat, and the attempted humor was corny and childish. This whole book feels like your foot is on the gas pedal.

But my biggest complaint is that Erick is supposed to be 30 and Tarr around 40 and they both sounded so immature. Their bickering banter made me think they were a couple of college kids.

I'm a big Megan Erickson fan, but this whole novella felt clunky and phoned in. I had no connection to the story, characters, or romance.

Suspense! Love! Danger! I have been waiting a good hot minute for Erick's story and this certainly disappoint! No one does romantic banter quite like Ms Erickson, and I can honestly say that this whole series has been an absolute favorite!

Avid Reader – ☆☆☆☆
M/M Thriller
Triggers: Contract killing, stalking, murder

This was a highly anticipated book in the series. Erick is gunning for any hitman, since he has lost a lot to them. What he doesn't expect is to be caught in a strange cat and mouse game and partnered with the very people he's grown to dislike.

Tarr is trying to do the right thing, despite his profession. He knows that he's not a good guy. He knows that he was dealt a bad hand. But he also knows that he's great at what he does. Living the life of a hitman is lonely, though. When Tarr realizes that he could have feelings for someone, he's at a loss. Should he?

When Tarr and Erick are tackling the same enemy, truths are revealed and hearts are put on the line. I wish that this was longer because I wanted more development between the two characters. It seemed that there was a lot of buildup, but when it came to their actual relationship, I thought that it lacked something.

I do like that there is more set up. I can't wait to see how it all unfolds. Erick and Tarr are a complicated couple who hopefully will find their way. I hope to see them in future books.

I've been enjoying the Wired and Dangerous series and was looking forward to this story about Erick Lee, brother to the heroine of book 1. While the plot and characters were interesting, the writing fell flat for me. It's hard to express exactly why, except to say that the actual writing style was simpler than usual (shorter sentences, less big words) - it felt like someone writing their first book, not an accomplished author whom I'm used to enjoying. Happy ending for the couple, some action filled scenes, some interesting ethical dilemmas (can you love a hit man?) but a bit of a disappointment.

Wired & Dangerous #2.5, I was hoping that Erick and Tarr would get their own story and I didn't have to wait very long. Yay! Even though this one is an in between novella I believe it can be read as a stand alone just fine. It has a nice introduction to the characters and just the background you need to follow this storyline. This is an M/M and I'm picky about the ones that I read usually only one that are in series I'm already reading, which this one is, or by authors I know their writing style and can trust it will be good, and this one was good. More suspense than romance, Erick and Tarr, whose really name is Everett, have a slow burn but it's a hot.

Erick Lee doesn't like the fact that he owes a hitman for saving his life. Erick does what he does for the greater good even if it means breaking the law to oust the bad guys, to him Hitmen are the bad guys they kill for money and have no conscience, so why is Erick turned on by this one? Everett made some bad decisions in life and now he's just living the live he has because of it, he never thought that he could find someone let alone someone who hates hitmen.

While tracking down Tarr, Erick inadvertently got himself right in the middle of a whole lotta trouble. Tarr did something and now he has a giant target on him back, not only that but the sister he thought was well hidden away from his enemies is now exposed and Erick and Everett have to rush to protect her and her two kids. Along the way the sexual tension just keeps building and building until finally it snaps and they give in, but is their desire strong enough to change them?

Overall, this was a great novella. It was action packed and a very satisfying read.

Final Day is an exhilarating adventure of a read with an explosive romance. Erick and Tarr are two strong, sexy characters that have a magnetic pull and sizzling chemistry that draws them together while also drawing readers into their story. The romance between these is one rocky battlefield as they fight their attraction for various reasons which keeps the emotions rolling and the relationship stays tense with lots of snarky and cutting dialogue, but the attraction won’t be denied which leads to some scorching hot passion that singes readers with its heat.

The story starts off with a climatic events that gets the adrenaline pumping and the fast paced and smooth flowing plot continues to escalate in thrills and excitement keeping readers on the edge of their seat. The Wired and Dangerous crew keeps getting more intense and exciting and Final Day can be read as a standalone and definitely lives up to its predecessors so readers won’t want to miss any of this explosive and edgy world.

Fun and fast-paced, Final Day was a fine installment in this series. A novella, it felt too short and too rushed at times, but the banter between Erick and Tarr was on point, and getting closer to Erick after learning his tragic backstory in books one and two was rewarding.
~ 3,5 STARS ~

Not a sexy short story, with well drawn characters and enough backbone to stand on its own and be enjoyable without me having read any other books in the series!

Loved this book! It was sweet, funny, sexy, romantic, and so intense. I finished the book in one sitting. You can tell Erick and Tarr are attracted to each from the moment they meet each other. Erick has hangups about who killed and his lover, and that's the reason he was fighting his attraction to Tarrr. Tarr has hangups about what he's done in his past. I love Trig and all the other main characters in this books.
You can tell Tarr really loves his family and will do anything to protect them. This book was exciting from the beginning to the end. I hope you enjoy this book as much as I did.

Review copy was received from NetGalley. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

This Wired & Dangerous series is a setting with hackers, full of suspense because the bad guys have no conscience about murdering people. For me, I would prefer a bit more of the technical details on their skills. Each book is a romance and since people are often hiding from the current threat, there isn't much of a team feeling or the connection of friends or family.

The Final Day is a male/male romance and it focuses very much on their feelings about the work they do and feelings Erick and Tarr have about each other. Everything feels a bit too much to be real. Erick seems to have some standard responses to certain things which became cliche to me as he reiterated them.

I don't read much m/m but this was an enjoyable sidetrack with some more suspenseful action. As a novella, it doesn't have as much character development as a full length book. It also did not have anything further on the overall arc of the Big Bad still out there, so I hope we continue there in the future.

3.5 stars--FINAL DAY is instalment 2.5 in Megan Erickson’s contemporary, adult WIRED AND DANGEROUS romantic suspense series focusing on a group of computer hackers and coders. This is thirty year old computer hacker Erick Lee, and mercenary for hire /hitman Everett ‘Tarr’ Hawk’s story line. FINAL DAY can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story lines is revealed where necessary. Erick Lee is Wren’s brother –Zero Hour Book one.

NOTE: FINAL DAY is a M/M story line and romance with same-sex scenarios.

Told from dual third person perspectives (Erick and Tarr) FINAL DAY follows the building relationship between thirty year old computer hacker Erick Lee, and mercenary for hire /hitman Everett ‘Tarr’ Hawk. Erick Lee is desperate to take down the person who murdered his boyfriend but he never expected to find himself owing a hitman for his own protection. Forced to work together when Tarr’s sister and her family are threatened, Tarr and Erick take up residence in Maine in order to protect the people Tarr loves. What ensues is the building but caustic relationship between Tarr and Erick, and the potential fall-out as Erick is caught in the cross-fire of a vendetta meant to destroy the man with whom he would fall in love.

Erick Lee struggles to overcome the murder of his boyfriend, and Roarke’s brother Flynn, a murder he is hoping to avenge but Erick is neither a killer nor a spy, and finds himself battling his way out of a sticky situation. Everett ‘Tarr’ Hawk can’t believe his run of luck or bad luck when he discovers Erick Lee hanging from a building as he attempts to hide from a local gang. On the run, trying to lay low, Erick and Tarr find themselves together when Everett’s sister and her children are once again, forced to hide because of the Tarr’s dangerous life.

The relationship between Tarr and Erick is one of immediate attraction but Erick struggles with Tarr’s lifestyle, that of a hitman for hire, who may or may not consider the who, how and why of the people he kills. The back and forth, yin and yang of sexual attraction is heightened as our couple are forced together to protect Tarr’s family, and ultimately Tarr must protect the man that he loves. The limited $ex scenes are intimate and passionate, without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

The secondary and supporting characters including Roarke and Wren (Zero Hour #1), and Everett Hawk’s sister Everly, and her children Cooper and Olivia, as well as Erick’s very colorful friend Trig. The requisite evil has many faces.

FINAL DAY is a story of family and love; vengeance and retribution; second chances at a happily ever after. The premise is fast paced and entertaining; the characters are spirited and lively; the romance is fast and furious. The ‘hacking’ elements are limited; we are not privy certain details including Erick’s connection to Trig, or the how, what and why of the equipment Trig supplied.

I'd been dying to get a deeper look into Erick since first introduced to him in Zero Hour and Darkest Night. I knew there was so much more to him underneath the brooding, grieving man. His connection to Roarke and Jock were well known, but I wanted to get further inside his head, learn more about the man. And I was not disappointed!

I loved the snarky, fun connection with Tarr! Their prickly behavior only served as foreplay to a sexy, smart relationship. I loved Erick's sense of humor—and Tarr's when he finally exposed it! Their romance was quick and lovely, and I was so happy to see their happily ever after come through!

3.5

After his boyfriend was murdered, gray hat hacker Erick Lee swore he'd find those responsible, unfortunately, this has lead him and his crew to becoming embroiled in a conspiracy much bigger than any of them thought possible, and Erick's life is saved by a mercenary for hire - the very type of person who killed his lover. Erick wants his debt paid back as soon as possible, but he can't help feel an attraction towards the mysterious hitman.

Everett "Tarr" Hawk isn't interested in the feelings he gets when he's around Erick, but he needs Erick's help when a former mark begins coming after Tarr. All they have to do is see this job through and they can be out of each other's hair. They'll have to learn to work together, and work out their misconceptions about each other, if they want to survive.

I could feel at the end of Darkest Night that Megan Erickson would put Erick and Tarr together. There was a vibe about them for the brief time they were together in that book, so I was interested to see where things would go when Erick finally got his own story. The idea of these two having such opposite viewpoints was interesting especially where Erick is concerned. I could completely understand why he would be reticent about starting anything with Tarr given what is known about him on a surface level, but I like the fact that it's clearly a surface level, that there's a lot that Erick hasn't considered because he's still dealing with his grief.

What ends up happening felt a lot like a buddy road trip where two people (typically complete opposites) are thrown together trying to get to a destination only to be thwarted time and again, where they have to end up working together by the end if they want to reach their destination. The story was too brief for this idea to really find its legs, but it tries and, somewhat succeeds. The story kind of goes off on its own and doesn't really tackle the overarching storyline from the first two books. I'm not sure why Megan Erickson decided to do Erick's story in this way and why a novella instead of a full-length novel. Probably my biggest complaint is that with being so short, things aren't really given the proper time to develop. I'm hoping this wasn't the last book of the series as I feel like there's a lot left open.

Maybe it's because I didn't read the first two (M/F) books in the series, though I felt like Erickson did a good job introducing the characters and their backstory well, but honestly, I struggled with this.

Erick Lee is a grey hat hacker who is determined to hunt down the person responsible for the death of his lover, Flynn. Everett "Tarr" Hawk is a mercenary for hire (read: Hitman) who ends up saving Erick's life and then teaming up with him, albeit begrudgingly, to take down a mutual enemy. There's bullets flying, chases, jumping off a building...and that's just the opener!

Told in a dual POV, there's plenty of action, tension, a fast paced story, even faster paced romance, and a happy ending.

So why didn't I love it? I'm really not sure why exactly, but mostly I felt disconnected to the story and to Erick and Tarr.

Maybe you'll have better luck.

I'm glad to see Erick receive some happiness in this novella. However, I was hoping that this one would finish the overall arc from the previous novels. Unfortunately, there was no resolution to that story line and very little was mentioned to connect it to the previous stories besides the main character Erick was a party of the crew from the previous two stories and met his love interest in the previous book. I wish it was a bit longer as it felt a bit rushed.

final day wraps up the wired & dangerous trilogy, although it feels weird to call it a trilogy when this book is novella length, there are enough loose ends that more could happen in this world. but it seems as if maybe the publisher lost enthusiasm? from surveying goodreads it seems like there was some drama with the author so maybe that impacted sales. anyway, you're looking for a review not publishing industry analysis. erick lee has a thing about hit men. and when tarr turned up to save jock and fiona in darkest night he wanted to know why? why did he knock erick out? why did he save the day? he's a mercenary. a cold-blooded killer. but tarr is also more.

because of the hit he made to save jock, tarr is now a target. and he becomes someone erick is helping. and even worse, he's someone erick is drawn to. tarr doesn't pretend to be something he's not. he's not the bad guy with a heart of gold. there is no false altruism. he's a guy who ended up with crappy choices and got stuck. and now he asks no questions and does what he is paid to do. but erick asking these questions is giving him pause. he's thinking. he's wanting. maybe he's changing.

maybe seeing jock and fiona and the possibility of having something more than the life of a hitman got the emotions he'd locked down involved. maybe it's just wanting erick, the feeling of him in his arms. but first he needs to get the men chasing him down, chasing his family down off his back. and he's going to need a team to help him this time. and that is already life-altering.

this was just a fast, enjoyable read. erick and tarr play off each other perfectly. and the conflict was satisfying in that emotionally angsty way i love. i wish that this would have been a full-length novel, because i think there was enough meat to this story to build up, but i was pleasantly surprised that the publisher went for a m/m romance at all given that the series had been m/f until now, so that's cool. i'd assumed that erick was destined to be a guncle, alone and single with flynn gone.

**final day will publish on october 16, 2018. i received an advance reader copy courtesy of netgalley/grand central publishing (forever) in exchange for my honest review.

I didn't know this was a novella when I requested the book. I'm not usually a fan of novella's but Final Day was awesome. My only complaint was that it was too short!
