This is a great read and a well-detailed plot that kept me engaged from the very start. I really liked the well-thought-out characters and found them to be believable. I cannot wait to read what the author publishes next.
This story started out so strong, then just went downhill from there. The plot sounded great, however, I didn’t connect with the characters like I had hoped and that was disappointing. The ending was ridiculous and pathetic and made me really pissed off that I made it to the super abrupt and unsatisfying ending. Very disappointing story.
I would like to thank the author and the Netgalley website for this partnership.
The author teaches us that love can often be tormented and that only lying to the loved one could save his or her relationship.
That's what happens to Rowan who lied to Tyler, she didn't want to hurt him, but he had no other choice. A year has passed since then and she decides to tell him the truth about what he pushed her to do, in part. Except Tyler's moved on since then, he's in a relationship. She will still see him and realize their ever-present attraction.
A book read in one go, I hooked on the story so captivating, full of suspense and twists and turns.
Rowan Steele lied to the love of her life, and broke of their hearts in the process. Rowan and her ex have both tried to move on, but are drawn back together. This book explores whether the truth is better left unsaid. The book itself is really well written and the plot had great beginnings, it just seemed rushed at the end and could have been executed a lot better. I love a good romance, particularly when like this where true love doesn’t run smoothly. I just think a lot more could be done here than was actually offered.
I pretty much read this book in one afternoon. Slow days at work mean downtime and not having cable leaves me time to read all the books!!! This book, The Truth about Us kept in me intrigued and engaged in the story. Being in my mid 30s, I could relate to the dilemmas of the characters from the relationships I had in my early 20s. I like it when I can relate to the main characters on some level whether it's relating to them from my past or my present. I would definitely recommend this book and/or purchase it for a friend. I typically read a lot of true crime, psychological thrillers and mystery books, so it is always fun to switch it up a bit and read a romance or YA novel. This book satisfied my need for love, angst and happiness.
The Truth about Us is a true young adult novel with broken hearts, pure but misplaced motives, and direct but denied chemistry. Rowan Hill and Tyler Nusom have too much mutual heartache to rebuild their relationship but there is also too much chemistry to stay apart. Her lies separated them and her attempts to come clean with rebuke are met by Tyler. Nothing, it seems, will correct her errors no matter how she tries.
I could not connect with the characters or the story. It didn’t grab me or interest me. The way the main female character was portrayed was so negative. It’s like she could not do anything right. I did not like the male main character or his friend. It is strange that even though I can tolerate a little cursing here and there in a good story, the cursing in this story felt unnecessary or out of place. I wish I liked this book more.
There were things that I loved about this book and things that I didn't. I'll start with what I did like: I liked the interaction between Tyler and Rowen. It was clear that they still had feelings for one another and were drawn towards each other in a way that they just couldn't resist. I wanted to know what was going to happen and of course, I wanted to see them back together. I liked all of that.
Unfortunately, where the book fell short was mostly to do with the conclusion. Throughout the book, we'd had them pushing and pulling towards and away from one another. Unable to finish, but unable to get back together. Suddenly, out of nowhere, the end appeared. It was almost as though the author couldn't decide how to get them back together, so she just missed that bit. It was completely unexpected and after the build up in the rest of the novel left me feeling a bit flat. The big reveal about why they had broken up before also seemed a bit silly. I just don't think that someone would do that.
I also wasn't thrilled by the way secondary characters were treated. Tyler's treatment of his girlfriend was terrible and both his friends and her friends seemed pretty horrid.
I did want to know what was going to happen in this book and I enjoyed much of the early part. I think that this made the end even more of a let down than it otherwise would have been. What a shame.
I received a complimentary copy of this book through NetGalley. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
This is going to be hard to rate and review. It will probably be confusing.
I absolutely HATED the characters. So hypocritical. There was so much WRONG with them. The whole story, the reason behind it all SUCKED, it made me so angry and I hated Rowan for it. Not to mention Tyler and Vic treating her the way they did through most of it. RAWR!
Okay now that I got that out of the way. I liked the writing style, I liked that the author took on these subjects. To be able to bring out so many strong emotions says a lot about her writing. I will for sure be reading more of her work.
I am not sure where to start with writing a review for this book. I was excited by the description of this book and I was looking forward to a good angsty read but this just felt like empty angst to me. I didn't like the characters that much and unfortunately the flashback style of storytelling didn't work for me in this book because by the time I got the truth I felt like it didn't even matter anymore. Maybe if I had connected with these characters I might have felt differently but with the way the story was structured I wasn't able to really get a sense that Rowan and Tyler were a couple worth rooting for. I wanted to really like this book but at the end I just didn't feel anything for this book or the characters.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and feelings are my own.
This is a new to me author and I can’t wait to read more of her work. This book grabbed my attention from the cover to the blurb. Once I started this book I devoured it in one sitting. If you are looking for some angst and a quick read, look no further. This story is about a young couple Rowan and Tyler who were happy and in love until they weren’t. Rowan is finally ready after a year without Tyler to let him know why things ended between them. She thought she was doing the right thing for both of them. The chemistry between these two is off the charts. I really enjoyed this book and will be reading more from this author.
This book starts our with our two main characters Rowan and Tyler in the aftermath of a bad breakup. While the book jumps from time frames and between each characters point of view I still found it very interesting and easy to follow. Each character Rowan and Tyler have very different
views of what happened. I really liked how you never really knew what happened until the very end of the story it just sort of threw you into the middle. Rowan is trying to move on with her life however everyone is turning against her after she broke the heart of the town golden boy Tyler. I liked this one because you really see the pain that each character is going through in their breakup and it leaves you wondering why Rowan chose to end things like she did when she sill obviously cares about him. The whole story shows how much Rowan still loves Tyler and how even though he is super hurt he still cares about her. There was nice pace to this story and it was really good because it's not something that I've read about much before especially in the contemporary romance genre. I thought I knew what was going to happen but I was pleasantly surprised at the ending. This is a great read and the characters were very likable and relatable, I felt for both of them. Great book that I couldn't bring myself to put down, every word left me wondering what happened between the two characters and if they could repair what they once had. I really liked how Tyler's character was full of anger but you also got the love that he once felt and still felt. There were lots of emotion in this story and I found each and every character very multi-dimensional. Great read. If you like stories that keep you guessing and keep you one your toes then you need to check this one out.
"Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for the advance copy of this book, in exchange for an honest review."
Loved this book very much. It had just enough sweet romance and the storyline was great! I highly recommend!
I really enjoyed many elements of this book, especially how much I was able to believe the feelings between the two main characters. I’m still unsure of whether the reasons given for why the relationship went in the direction it did are fully plausible, however it was a story that I looked forward to going back to every time I put the book down. If anything I feel it could have gone on longer, perhaps the ending was a little rushed.
Thank you for the opportunity to read and review this book! I have given The Truth about Us - 4 Stars.

I had a hard time connecting to the characters, even though I liked the book. Does that make sense?
It's a beautifully written story and held my attention for the "what comes next" aspect, but I couldn't feel the chemistry flowing throughout the pages.
Because I liked the way it was written, I already know I am going to be surfing through this authors books past and upcoming releases after I write this review and adding what appeals to me to my TBR shelf.
For a second chance romance, which I love, this one is a must try. Do not let my inability to connect deter you away from giving it a shot. It may be just because of the headspace I have been in as the reason why. I've marked it to re-read again later on.
So please, try it if second chances are your thing.
The plot and the synopsis drew me to this book, but the story was a big let down. The heroine’s decision was ill thought and very extreme for the excuse she gave. The verbal abuse that she was subjected to by the H, his girlfriend and his best friend should not have been tolerated by ant decent human being. I don’t know why the author wrote her like that. To make matters worse, she did the unthinkable and topped it off with the unforgivable, so I don’t believe in the ending. Nope.. *I don’t want to give anything away.
This was a very intriguing romance. I enjoyed it,
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own
Perfect for a Short Read.
Please note I received this book as an ARC in exchange for my honest review (may contain spoilers).
This was my first book by author Megan D. Martin and at 230 pages this was a nice short read. The first couple of chapters reeled me in quickly, the author starts out strong leading the reader to this event or "secret" hanging over the lives of Tyler Nusom and Rowan Steel, a secret which they both are so damaged from that she doesn't date and he is ultimately using his business to shut down hers, poaching her employees and stealing their customers.
Fast forward a few more chapters and I started to feel the writing was at times elementary. Character development was lacking for me, the plot was at times confusing with the back and forth dialogue from past to present yet necessary for the reader to find out critical information. I was left with unanswered questions about Tyler's friend Victor and his strong disdain for Rowan. Then there's Tyler and Rowan who are at each others throats through most of the book, both characters are trying to move on yet remain friends which only leads to more self destructive behavior. Rowan is annoyingly accepting of people lashing out and downing her, several times I wanted to slap her and tell her to say something.
I felt the ending was a little rushed, when I finally found out the "truth" I was disappointed in the authors direction (I'll save that one for you to read on your own). However, having said that, the end did make me tear up and for me that is a necessity when it comes to reading romance. Overall a good read for the price.
I was given the opportunity via NetGalley to read an electronic copy of The Truth About us. I was under no obligation to review this book and my opinion is freely given.
Tyler Nusom met Rowan Steel when he was on the way to a job interview with Steel Mechanics, seeing her from afar. Turns out, the job was working for her father. The love affair that ensued burned bright, but will a massive betrayal on Rowan's part have the power to destroy Tyler's love for her? With Rowan not being forthcoming about what really happened, will she and Tyler ever be able to put the past behind them?
This NA romance had the potential to be a good story, but the author spent too much energy on the "bedroom scenes" and not enough on the actual plot. The lack of realism and originality did not help to make the book memorable, nor did the characters. I actually would have rather the author go for the cliche ending, instead of the truth we were given behind Rowan's betrayal. For these reasons, I would be hesitant to recommend The Truth About Us.
