Due to a passing in the family a few years ago and my subsequent health issues stemming from that, I was unable to download this book in time to review it before it was archived as I did not visit this site for years after the bereavement. Thank you for the opportunity.

I was so disappointed. I had hoped to read and absorb this as I work on my family tree. I was never able to open it even though I tried on all of the various tech devices that I own. :(

I have lived the majority of my life in either Alaska or Oklahoma, both states that have a rich history of Native American culture. My husband's family is Cherokee and many of my inlaws are Shawnee. In our search of information on the cultures and civilizations of all Native Americans, I came across this book. Rick Sapp has spent a lot of time and effort to bring this information all into one source. It is a fascinating look at how the tribes have migrated from their original areas whether through forced migration or moving to follow food sources or to better their descendants opportunities. This book is an original concept, I've seen nothing like it before. Read this with your children. They will remember this the rest of their lives.

This book is well written and researched. It is a good basic overview on the subject and would be a good resource book for middle/high school history classes that are discussing native american history.

I recommend this book to anyone who is looking for a good basic history of the tribes of the United States. I would recommend other books if you are interested in an indepth history of any particular tribe.

I requested this book as I have an interest in the history of Native Americans and the description sounded interesting. This is the first book by the author that I have read.

From Alabama to Washington, and throughout Canada, Sapp's Native Americans State-by-State looks at the native peoples associated with each region. Each state/province has its own entry, with maps and a timeline. Native groups are considered through time, from pre-Columbian to the present today, and taking into account willing and forced migration of tribe. With accompanying artwork, and photos that illustrate the wide variety of cultural differences, readers will learn about the 400+ native tribes that we are aware of, hopefully prompting greater cultural awareness and interest.

This book is titled North American Indian Tribes State-by-State within the text of my book file, and I find that a much more professional and respectful title than Native Americans State-by-State. Other than that, this was a great read! It was fascinating to the anthropologist in me. The writing may be too weighty at times for some. Still, if you have an interest in Native American cultures and history, this is well worth adding to your library!

I wish I could have read a galley copy of this book as the ePub on my iPad was difficult to read with small text. It was fascinating to learn more about native Americans.

This is a beautifully put together history of Native American tribes in the U.S. , state by state. It has beautiful images and lots of great information about how much of our culture was taken directly from Native American language, art, culture and society. There's information about the culture, diet, geography and even where the tribes are in modern times. It's a great resource for showing the history of the indigenous people who inhabited the U.S. and the United States as well.

This handy reference volume works well as a supplement to units on Native Americans for upper elementary and middle school social studies students. It is full of photographs, maps, and other illustrations to enhance understanding. For each state, Canadian province, and even the District of Columbia and some of the Caribbean territories of the United States, information regarding the native peoples to that area is supplied. Typical entries include meaning of the state's name, a brief description of the area's geography, a brief glimpse at the culture and lifestyle, Native languages spoken, housing types, contemporary peoples native to the area, a list of recognized tribes present in the area, a map showing where native populations reside, a timeline, a narrative, and some photographs depicting the people and their culture. Since most regions only receive four to six pages, with an occasional entry slightly longer, the author cannot include everything. However, it is a good introduction. The book would have been enhanced by including brief bibliographies for each region so students or teachers wishing to explore more could easily locate resources that work for the age group. This book should be in upper elementary and middle school libraries and in many public libraries. This was a "read now" title at NetGalley. I downloaded it with the expectation that I would write an honest review. The advance review copy was entitled <i>North American Indian Tribes State-by-State</i>, but it was published under the title <i>Native Americans State by State</i>. The cover does mention it "includes Canadian First Nations, Inuit, and Métis.

Native Americans State by State by Rick Sapp , let me tell you this, is a stunning, impressive, detailed beautiful work about all the Native Americans tribes present in the various States of the USA, seen and analyzed thanks to their story, and also the ones present in Canada, Inuit and Métis.
Wonderful illustrations, this book is colored, plenty of maps, I tell you that this one is a great gift for someone passionate of history and of American History.

Native Americans experienced a sad destiny although they are still resisting, affirming with pride their beautiful traditions; we mustn't never forget that they were the real citizens of the USA and Canada when the so-called white man arrived to America in 1492. They were decimated, mainly for a sad story of monopoly regarding their lands.
To Native Americans emigrating from a place to another one meant to them the complete lost of their origins; abandoning their lands meant to them abandoning their dead ones, their traditions, their customs. They lived symbiotically with their land, sacred.
No sure when I fell in love for Native Americans but their profound culture is still resonating in our confusing Western civilization and it speaks of nature, it speaks of a healthy confrontation with our environment; of beauty, of respect for every creature.

Great, great, great book!! Informative but easy to read and understand with awesome picture to go along with the text, a must for anyone interested in Native American history!!

This is not the type of reference book that you would want to read cover to cover. The information provided about the various indigenous tends to sound repetive. There is information about each state and province along with maps that is interesting and readable. Some of the photgraphic images are presented as free reprints from gettyimages. The author should have paid for imprint free images for his book.

In-depth, census derived information, very detailed in some respects, and easy to read for middle grades up. This is a valuable resource.

I would have loved to have read Native Americans State by State but it was available only on a PDF file download and that would not open on my computer. Normally I send the books to my Kindle App on my phone and read them there. #NativeAmericansStateByState #NetGalley

I enjoyed this book. I loved how it was broken down by each state or providence. I learned a lot about America and was surprised (and excited) so many of our state names come from Native Americans. I loved all the photos as well as timelines for each state. I loved learning about tribes in my own state and was so sad that they ended up so far from home.
I recommend this book to everyone in the United States so they can digest and easy to read and truthful version of their history.

Found this book to be very interesting. In ways I wanted more information. Part of the reason I was very interested in the book was because I am Native American Indian... Delaware Indian or Lenape to be exact. I was very interested in what would be included regarding Lenape. I also live in California and was interested in information on tribes in the area I live. This book will be great for all those interested in learning more about their ancestors as well as those curious about the different Native American Tribes. Enjoy!
