J.T Ellison has quickly become one of my favorites and A Thousand Doors just further solidifies that. This complex story delivers on all my expectations and more. This is the game of "what if" taken to a whole other level that is both though provoking and suspenseful. This story is so unique and definitely should be at the top of everybody's 2019 must read list.
So unique and unlike anything I have ever read. While I was reading it, I was thinking “Sliding doors”. At then end in the authors note he wrote that that was a way he pitched it.
The beginning was heart wrenching and had me so drawn into it. But the real surprise was the stories that followed. The “lives” of Mia. The doors that she could have opened. Each door, written by a different author, was so beautifully and poignantly written. I really FELT every word, every life, every emotion. Some of them affected me more emotionally than others and I couldn’t stop thinking about them.
The ending was incredible. It tied everything up neatly. And JT’s writing is just beautiful. Pay attention to the details and it will pull on your heart and give you that AHA moment!
All the stars! 10!
Thank you #Netgalley, the author and the publisher for my free ARC in exchange for my honest review.
We've all had it happen - that question in our minds of what our life could have been if we had made another choice years ago. One little change would totally change everything but we never really know whether the changes would be good or bad. Mia Jensen gets an answer to this 'woulda coulda shoulda' question as she lays dying.
Mia is not happy with her life and often wonders what it would have been like if she had made other decisions earlier. Would she have a happier marriage, a more fulfilling career, a better home. As she lays dying on her kitchen floor, an angel shows her what her life could have been. Each story is uniquely different and shows a totally different Mia but they are all connected in one way and there lies the dilemma. Would they would have been better lives?
This is a wonderful anthology edited by J.T. Ellison and contains stories by 15 popular female authors with their story about Mia's life. I had read most of these authors but added the ones that I haven't read to my tbr lists.
Thanks to the publisher for a copy of this book. All opinions are my own.
Oh my goodness!! This was an amazing concept for a book and thoroughly enjoyed every chapter! When I started reading, I was hooked (unfortunately, life happened and I had to pause). I think I would make the same choice as Mia Jensen in the end but every chapter gives you food for thought on the 'what ifs' in your life. This book will fly by and have you thinking about what would you do in the situation.
Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC ecopy for my Kindle.
Psychological thriller about a woman who is facing death and is shown what if she had a choice to pick another life. And the short stories of her choices were written by some of my favorite authors including Patti Callahan Henry, Kaira Rouda, Kate Moretti, Laura Benedict and more.
Who doesn't wonder if you had a different life and when faced with a choice of another life, would you pick a different one or still want the one you had/have?
One of favorite books!
A unique and well-done collaboration of several authors, this book had me intrigued when I heard about it and even more intrigued within the first few pages! What if there was some way to see what would happen if a different choice was made or a different ambition or dream was pursued? Mia gets the chance to see these different paths and how her life would have been/could have been. And the reader follows her as she discovers how each choice made determines what happens next and how it impacts her future. Each story is unique, but they all fit with each other so well and have common threads. My favorites were one in which Mia works with bonobos and another in which she is living on the streets. This was also a great chance to read the writing of such a great group of authors. I’ve read books written by several of them before, but not all of them. I’m very excited that I now have new authors and books to add to my want-to-read list!
A great read, an interesting format, and brilliant authors all compiled together. I'm usually not a fan of anthologies, but I was pleasingly surprised by the result.
I am not a fan of anthologies. The idea of many short, very short, stories being put in one book, not having continuous storylines is not the type of book I usually enjoy. But in A Thousand Doors, I found that I couldn’t stop reading the stories one after another. The difference with this collection is that they have the same beginning. Mia dies and the rest of the stories are a collection of what her life could have been written by many well-known authors.
The fun part of an anthology is that you can put the book down and come back to it without missing a beat. Finish one short story and you can go read a different book, come back and the story picks right back up where it left off. A Thousand Doors is a great variety of stories with J.T. Ellison starting the collection and then tying it all up perfectly.
I do not usually choose short story collections to read but I decided to give this one a try. I am glad I did'. This was a perfect fit for me to read during a busy time in my life.
Thank you to Net Galley and J..T. Ellison for the opportunity to read A Thousand Doors in exchange for my honest review.
I received an advanced copy of this book through Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. This book had me on the edge of my seat the whole time! It was definitely a book that kept you thinking! I would definitely recommend this book to fellow readers. Thank you!
This was not the book for me. Although I usually enjoy reading anthologies, I can't say the same for this book. It failed to hold my attention and I forced myself to continue reading.
In general I’m not a huge fan of anthologies but when I saw that J. T. Ellison had managed to snag some of my favorite female thriller authors to make this book I had to give it a shot. Besides an amazing group of writers, the premise is also fantastic, I loved the idea of seeing the various paths one woman’s live could’ve taken and it wound up being pretty damn cool.
Each author has a chapter with one of Mia’s lives and while I enjoyed all of them, The Homeless Woman by Kerry Lonsdale left the biggest impression on me. I really liked the way this centered on one character, most anthologies usually don’t follow this pattern and I believe that’s why this one worked so well for me. The way things all came together in the end was really cool and unexpected too. If you’re looking for something different or if you want to try out a few new to you authors this would be a great choice!
A Thousand Doors in three words: Innovative, Unique and Clever.
I thought this was a really unique idea for a short story collection, and the collection managed to maintain a consistent tone and voice despite being written by multiple authors.
While I found some of the stories individually a little predictable, overall the collection was enjoyable and will appeal to fans of domestic thrillers particularly!
I really don’t know where to start! What unique idea!
Mia has been murdered. As she is dying she experiences what her life, or better yet, what she could have been if she had made alternative decisions.
I cannot explain what a wonderful read this is. If you follow my blog you know I do not read the blurb of a book. And, this holds true for this one. So needless to say, I was a little confused at the beginning of this book. But the more I read, the more I loved this tale! Every chapter is different. And in every chapter Mia is different. Sometimes she is good and sometimes she is bad. With all these various contributors, how could Mia not live a thousand different lives.
This is one not to be missed!
I received this novel from Netgalley for a honest review.
This book was so uniquely written and I loved the idea of just how different it was! I was not sure how the book would all come together given the fact that several different authors contributed parts to the story to make the book as a whole, but I was interested in the uniqueness of it and was thrilled to have received a copy.
This book did not let me down! It was a cleverly written book and all the contributions from the different authors all came together beautifully to create a wonderful, gripping novel. Well done to all the authors! What a fantastic and different way to compose a book! I loved it!
I enjoyed reading about all the different lives Mia could have lived had she made different choices. Some lives were more glamorous and satisfying than others, some full of happiness and love, some full of heartbreak and disappointment, but it was interesting none the less to read about all of the different paths that her life could have taken given her differing choices along the way.
What a masterpiece of a book to have come together in such a unique way. I thoroughly enjoyed this one from beginning to end.
If you could have the chance to view all of the possible different lives you could have lived had you made different choices along the way, would you take the opportunity to see them? I would love to hear your thoughts!
I knew going in that this book was an anthology of sorts, but I did not expect to feel like it was a "Choose Your Own Adventure" type of anthology! I was impressed. I found myself unable to decide which story would be the best for Mia. Some stories were pretty tame, others were wildly imaginative! I loved the concept and the execution!
My thanks to NetGalley and Two Tales Press for the opportunity to read and provide an honest review of this book.
What a fantastic read! I loved the concept of the book and the amazing team of contributing authors!! Each version of Mia's life had it's own voice, and the whole book tied together so well. I normally don't read short stories but I loved these because they all centered around a theme and story. Well done and highly recommended!
Mia Jensen is not leading her best life when she is murdered by the hands of her husband. As she lays there dying, she is shown all of the many lives she could have lead had she made different decisions. Would you remain with the life you currently have or if given the chance would you lead a completely different life? These mini stories of Mia's lives have been written by some brilliant authors and I enjoyed almost all of them, immensely. Highly recommend!
Thank you Netgalley, the publisher and J.T. Ellison.
This is the first Anthology I have read and absolutely loved it. The different choices we make in life which brings us to different results. Mia lives amazing life through different choices.
I loved the ending. Thank you to all the wonderful authors who collaborate to this book.
Highly recommend.
This book is written in a very cool style. This is the 1st time that I have ever read a book like this. A great group of Authors all wrote a different ending to the Main Character Mia's life and what would have happened if she had made different choices. Each chapter was like a novella and the only part that I didn't like about this concept of an anthology was that some of them ended with semi-cliffhanger endings. All in all I really enjoyed the stories in #AThousandDoors and was very excited to get a copy through #NetGalley. Great Job To The Authors of #AThousandDoors!
