This book is an absolute delight to read. It's everything I needed after a long week of classes and studying - simple, cheerful, and motivational. The comics in Loading Penguin Hugs are mostly single-panel stand-alone comics featuring ADORABLE art that reminds me of Pusheen or similar chibi-style animation. If someone gave me a greeting card featuring one of Jacqueline Chen's characters, I would probably tear up. It's just so simple and cute. Loading Penguin Hugs would make a great stocking stuffer or holiday gift for just about anyone - your thirteen-year-old niece, your co-worker, or your dentist.
I've followed Chen's chibird work for a while now and I love it all. Her illustration style is simple and cute but the sentiments of her pieces are for all of us - young and old. This book is the perfect pick-me-up after a rough day, and would be an ideal gift for friends and family. I highly recommend it.
This was the cutest book in the whole entire world of cute. This would be a perfect book to put in the restroom, the doctors office, or in your classroom. Sometimes we need to know that we aren't perfect, but that its okay. I couldn't have smiled more or been more happy after reading this book. Oh my goodness. Cuteness alert!
A selection of self-affirming memes-in-the-making, designed to encourage positive thoughts and attitude. Probably fine - certainly the design is a lot better than it might have been - but really not my thing.
I'm pretty sure everyone has seen this gif floating (heh) around the internet, especially when a friend is having a bad day and you want to give them a smile.
(Inserted gif of ghost hug)
This is the creator of that comic, as well as so many other fantastic ones I've seen with no idea who the artist is.
These are some of the cutest, most positive doodles I have ever seen online. Adorable chubby cheeked characters offering positivity, support, and atta girl/boys for any moment you may be having.
I want this book, and I want to send this book to literally everyone I'm friends with.
I just might...
Cute af.
I had seen the author's illustrations before and I found them super cute. They're sweet and motivational at the same time and that's difficult to do, but the author really achieves it.
This kind of illustrations/comics/book is what I mean when I say I want to read motivational stuff.
For the topic is kinda repetitive, but that doesn't mean I didn't recommend it. I would love to have a physical copy to read when I'm in a bad mood.
It is a collection of simple and short comics. Reading the whole book didn't take much to read. With its cuteness, it is really a good book to cheer you up. I love the categorization of comics at the end of the book. It is a so smart idea. Are you having a bad day? You need positivity? You need a little push and a self-esteem boost for yourself? Well you know which pages are for you! Jacqueline Chen also points out that not being perfect is okay. Also, she makes fun of procrastination, introversion and working. She shows us the humorous side of our characteristics, our lives.
A collection of cute and motivational drawings gathered from Chibird. If you're familiar with the site, you know what you're getting, cutesy, upbeat stuff that we could probably all use a bit more of in our world.
This book is an adorable collection of Chen's drawings that so many have become familiar with through the Chibird accounts on Instagram and Tumblr. While the book is a quick read, it's definitely one that can be gone back to over and over again whenever you need a pick me or a reminder that things will get better. I'll definitely be giving copies out to friends and family and recommending it to anyone who needs a little bit of happiness during their day.
This is an adorable comic collection. Sometimes reading books like this gives me positive energy. It was cute and lovely.
I was a third of the way into Loading Penguin Hugs when I abruptly stopped reading and went to pre-order it for a friend. It is the perfect book for so many of us, and if I were loaded with cash, I’d pre-order it for half a dozen more friends.
You may already be familiar with this artist because of her ghost hug gif that’s been floating around the internet (“you can’t feel it but it’s there!”). This whole book is full of the same cute art and sentiments!
While the art is sweet and childlike, I’d say the motivational messages in here are more relevant to teenagers and young adults. Those two age groups are have grown up under the influence of a social media that forces us to constantly compare ourselves to our peers and to only see our flaws as contrasted by their successes. This book is not just full of encouragement, but it also acknowledges negative feelings and accepts that they’re necessary sometimes.
I would recommend this to stressed teenagers, panicking young adults, to anyone who wants a hug but can’t get one at the moment, and to someone who needs to be reminded that nice things exist in this world. :)
This book is adorable!
This book is a great gift to cheer up your favorite cute meme lover. This is also a great book to have as a coffee table book. The art is simple, but effective and the messages are uplifting while acknowledging that it is ok to have bad days and ok to need help.
Thank you NetGalley for an early copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
Although deceptively simplistic in its style, this book includes colorful and eye-catching images. The text is not narrative in flow, per se, but offers insight, humor, and wisdom. A likeable book that would make a lovely gift.
Thank you, NetGalley and the publisher for a chance to read this comic.
A very fast paced, simplistic and motivational read with stunning illustrations throughout. The uplifting messages, while being accompanied by bright and cheerful illustrations, is sometimes just what you need to read to feel that little bit more positive and happy.
Overall, I would definitely recommend this comic to anyone looking for something cute, fun and light to read.
LOADING PENGUIN HUGS is exactly what you'd expect when reading the title. It's a cute but simplistic comic book of positive outlooks and sayings. I would definitely buy this for someone who just needs a little jolt of "happy" in their day.
Very cute and sweet collection of comics that encourage hope, positivity, and perseverance. Illustrations are colorful and full of adorable animal.s

I be feeling a bit under the weather and was having trouble figuring out what to read next when I saw "Where do you turn to when you need a pick-me-up on a bad day?" That was exactly how I was feeling and so I clicked on it. These comics were instant gratification and immediately made me smile. Just what I needed.
This collection of comics is short at 88 pages but I have read it three times (so far). The author's illustrations are just so cute and feature animals, people, and small pep talks. I am not sure how many of them have been previously featured on her website but I loved them. One of me favourites was an updated version of this:

I'd like to thank Netgalley and Andrews McMeel for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review
This book is so adorably wholesome. I'd seen some of the art uncredited on social media so I'm thrilled to know who did it.
The book is very sweet and motivational and just wants the reader to be happy.

There is an index at the end where you can find entries for things like "joy" and motivational penguin"

Loading Penguin Hugs is a collection of one-page uplifting and positive comics by Jacqueline Chen, aka Chibird. Published by Andrews McMeel, with an expected release date 13th Nov 2018, it's 88 pages and available in hardcover format.
The style is extremely sweet and naive (see cover). Reading the book in one sitting admittedly felt a little saccharine by the end, however these would be perfect for one-a-day positive notes to read before bed or even have a bedtime feel good minute with your kids. I could also imagine these in single doses in a classroom setting or frankly whenever one needs a little boost.
In a world where every.single.second of news coverage feels like a fresh knell of doom, these little glimpses of positivity and kindness are truly a breath of fresh air. I loved all of them and I have to say the hedgehogs and manatee comics made me *squee* a little bit :)
Four stars, lovely and sweet!
This was a fine little book. It did not really wow me or leave an impression on me, An okay little comic.
