Another fun mystery. The mystery has some twists and an end I didn't see coming. I enjoy the continuation of characters from book to book. It's a fast paced read. I also love the crafting aspect of this authors' books.
This can be read as a standalone story. I am a fan of this series.
I like the not so secure Casey, her friend Lucinda and the Detective Theo Borgine. I’m not a fan of the inn manager, Kevin.
The California seaside is the backdrop to this captivating cozy. Near Monterey CA.
I am familiar with this area and enjoy the Backdrop descriptions, especially 17 mile drive.
I liked that we learned more about Casey and Lucinda. Casey’s school mates come to a retreat. One dies and the search is on for the killer.
I didn’t care for Elizabeth, she seems like another lost soul that can’t enjoy the life she has. She needs to relax and enjoy life. Things will fall into place if she lets it. I’m not against ambition but live a little instead of envious of what others appear to have.

This is a fast paced, interesting mystery which captured my attention from the very first page. As a knitter I am always interested in books that feature knitting and the idea of a yarn retreat seemed like a great idea. Casey Feldstein inherited the yarn retreat business from her aunt and runs them at Vista Del Mar, a camp like lodge. When a group of Casey's former college teammates - the Ballerinas- decide to have a reunion at the retreat, she is a little nervous at the idea of seeing them again but agrees to host the retreat. Then she receives word that a mystery guest will be arriving who turns out to be Zac, a reporter who was at college with them and who was sent an invitation to the retreat with the promise of a big story. Since this is a murder mystery Vanessa, the woman who was the most outspoken about her dislike of the rustic setting, is found dead with what at first looks a heart attack but turns out to be an air embolism. Casey believes it had to be one of the other Ballerinas who killed Vanessa and with a fake bomb, tainted wine and a syringe filled with air as a murder weapon she has her hands full in finding out what really happened. Casey is quick witted and clever as she unravels the mystery and with likeable characters and a polished plot this is a great addition to the cozy mystery genre.
Loved it! A reunion retreat of non-knitters ends up as a murder and tell-all of past indiscretions. A smidgeon of romance, a running tale which I hope will be resolved in the next book, and growing relationships.
Inherit the Wool by Betty Hechtman is this first I've read in the series.
I'm a fan of the author, so this book peaked my interest.
The story was well written and I immediately connected with the characters.
I'm planning on reading the other books in the series so I can catch up on these wonderful characters.
I volunteered to read and review an ARC of this book provided by the publisher and NetGalley.
I love this series and thus new book is as good as the others. The main character Casey is truly her own woman. She's independent and fair. Throw in really fun knitting ideas and you're all set.
Great read with quirky characters, who just like those at a reunion, revert back to their old personalities and try to hard. Very complex mystery that was a delight to read.
cozy-mystery, amateur-sleuth, women-sleuths, contemporary, knitting, law-enforcement
A logical murder mystery populated by quirky illogical characters, most of whom are trying a bit too hard to show how successful they have become in the fourteen years since they were at college together. Take these folks, subtract the murder victim, add in some local characters and cops, finish up with a magic act,and you have a mystery as complex as a knitting pattern. A good read!
I requested and received a free ebook copy from Beyond the Page via NetGalley.
I liked how the author shook things up a bit with this book. It gave us some really nice backstory for Casey and created a different dynamic with the retreat.
I received a copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for an honest review. I was not paid for this review.
