Local artist Keva might be human, but she knows about the things that go bump in the night. Years ago, a dragon shifter saved her from certain death. Ever since, she’s lived in his clan’s territory and put her life back together. But the feeling of security is only an illusion, because her past has come back to haunt her. A past with claws and fangs, demanding blood.
This was a dragon shifter novella in the author’s Darkness series. It was a pretty quick read but packed a full story about two people with very painful pasts. I really loved both Keva and Dagen. I liked seeing characters that I’ve seen in other books. I think I’ve found a new favorite author. I look forward to reading more from this author. I highly recommend.

WAs just checking in my NG account and saw I never sent here the link to my review, only rated and reviews on GR, and never pasted here, I'm so sorry for the delay, really don't know how that happened given I even sent directly by mail the review links for Dragon Christmas. Here it is, again, I'm so sorry for the inconvenience, and thank you so much for allowing me to read one of my Top Fav PNR series in advance.

5 'His Everything' Stars

DRAGONS! Who doesn't love dragons?! Dragons + Katie Reus' Darkness = PNR PERFECTION!

This little Darkness novellas are so packed full of PNR goodness!
Dagen was such an amazing Alpha male, and even though he messed up a bit with that start, he was without a doubt book boyfriends material because he more than groveled and made up for it. Soon deliciously protective and possessive where Keva was concerned, that it was impossible not to fall for him.
Keva was such a strong character for such a traumatic past, but I just adored how she stood her ground and never gave up her individuality and independency.
The suspense element was just as enticing, in this short format as is in any full length of the series, and just one more reason to make us devour the book in one sitting.
Can't get enough of this series, and Ms. Reus enrapturing writing. Already counting down the days for the next Darkness!!! <3 <3 <3 <3 <3

SENTINEL OF DARKNESS is author Katie Reus at her best. It was fantastic returning to this author's Darkness series with this book. It is 251 pages packed with action, danger, intrigue and emotional drama that will keep you glued to your seat.

If you love paranormal with a lot of exciting characters, a strong hero and heroine, sweet and steamy romance with action and danger then get your hands on SENTINEL OF DARKNESS!

I started this new year off with a DNF (not this book!), so I wanted something to cleanse my palate, so to speak. I'm so glad I picked this one!

This novella is part of Katie Reus' Darkness series, but don't let the fact that it's number 8 in the series put you off. It can absolutely be read as a stand-alone.

Keva has a past with a wolf shifter. A bad past. She'd like to leave him there. But he's more than just a bad memory, and 4 years after settling down in dragon territory, he's coming back to haunt her.

For Dagen, a chance meeting in an elevator has his dragon fighting to force him to claim his mate. But how? She's skittish and he's just accidentally insulted her.

With her past closing in, will she let Dagen help her?

This book was exactly what I needed. I loved Keva, I loved Dagen, and I loved their story. I was so into this one, that I think I'll try to catch up in the series. Being that it was a novella, obviously everything was very fast-paced, but Katie Reus is good at writing novellas, so it felt complete. I've read a few in this series already, and I'd forgotten how much I like this author's paranormal romances. Especially her dragons.

If you'd like a quick, sexy, and dragon-y read, grab this one!

Feel free to rec me any of your favorite dragons in the comments!

I love a good story about a woman taking back her independence and sensuality after abuse and Katie Reus always manages to tackle that theme with magical skill and add in the spice and individuality that makes her story better than anyone else's. If you are a longtime fan of the series you will recognize most of the supporting characters in Keva and Dagen’s tale, even if you might not recognize them right off the bat. I enjoyed every single second of this story and getting to see both of these lovers find their footing together and would have loved it even more had this story been twice as long, to be honest. Keva was a woman that has worked hard to get over the trauma in her past, even if she knows she still has a few issues to work through, and she knows that she won’t ever again let a man take advantage of her. She tugged at my heartstrings in a lot of ways but the best part was seeing Dagen make a fool of himself as he tried to make her fall in love with him. Dagen is a bit of a typical dragon in that his arrogance knows no bounds, but he sees immediately he has made a serious mistake when he realizes he has alienated his mate with an unintended insult. Breaking through her walls and making her see that he is the man for her makes him more human and shows us that he can be a tender and loving mate for her. I LOVED seeing Dagen brought low as any man should be as he falls in love, before Keva picks him back up and shows him the man he is truly meant to be. The danger and suspense in this novel carried some weight for such a short novel, but I liked that, even as I wished the length of the story had been a bit extended. This series continues to amaze me in that Katie always seems to find a way to keep it original while maintaining the magic and heart of the very first story that stole my heart. I cannot wait to see where this series goes next. Keep the magic and of course the DRAGONS coming, Katie!

Awww cue the feels. I really loved this one. Dagen and Keva's story was moving and emotional. Dagen was the ultimate dragon protector for his mate and Keva was tough heroine. Beautifully written, filled with action and past characters that make an appearance, makes this a feel good read! Just a great story all around! 4.5 stars

This was my second book of the Darkness series of Katie Reus. However, it didn't have any links to the previous part (or I missed it...). We meet Keva, who was nearly murdered by her wolfshifter boyfriend. She was rescued by Conall, a dragon shifter. While living in his territory Keva is still scared of shapeshifter creatures. So when she meets Dagen, a member of Conall's clan, she is not overly excited when he tries to court her. Dagen realizes that Keva is his mate, when he meets her. He doesn't understand why she is under Conall's protection and he certainly doesn't understand why Keva doesn't want to have anything to do with him.
But when a wolfpack is threatening Keva, Degan will do anything to keep his mate safe, including defying Conall. A short and sweet story from Katie Reus and looking forward to reading more from this series. Four out of five stars from me and a special thank you to Netgalley for providing the arc.

I love the series. I really like that we now have dragons in the series and I enjoyed Keva and Dagen. However, I really wish this was a full-length book. It was so short and everything was fast-forwarded: the chemistry, the plot, the end all happened so fast! I love everything Ms. Reus writes, I just wished the story was a bit longer.

Loved it! This is the first book of this series I read, and I love it. I particularly enjoy the fact I didn’t need to read the rest of the series to follow the story. Dagen and Keva’s story is as unique as their characters. One thing I love about Katie Reus’ writing is the believability of her characters, especially the paranormal ones. You really feel like you know these people.

I voluntarily read an advanced review copy of this book

Keva has had some bad experiences with creatures that go bump in the night and is trying to put all of the bad memories behind her. But what is she going to do when all of the dangers from her past refuse to stay...in her past? Read and find out!

Overall this book was good. Dagen is the perfect match for Keva...he is strong, brave and not afraid to stand up for Keva when she needs him the most.

This is a short read and for this length I didn't expect something really amazing. So the story was ok, with great develope characters and interesting plot. It has a quick pace and like I said I didn't expect something big. It was read for a rainy afternoon.
I volunteered to review an ARC of this book for Netgelly

This was my first Katie Reus fantasy but l love stories about dragons so gave it a try. Keva is a human that knows about the shifter world through a really bad experience with her ex a wolf shifter. Due to Neva blaming herself for not seeing how controlling her ex had become she was having a quiet life living in dragon shifter Conall’s territory. Dagen a dragon shifter with his own past follows her into a lift as he realises she is his mate. Their love story will not be easy as they have to overcome past fears mixed with wolf shifters coming to town for revenge. This is a good introduction to the dragon clans and you meet other couples and even a few ancients. It would be worth looking for their stories in other books.
I was given an ARC of this book by Netgalley and the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

I LOVE Katie Reus’ Darkness series, and Sentinel of Darkness is no exception. One of the things that I like about Reus, is she’s not afraid to take on darker themes in her books. In Sentinel of Darkness, both Dagen and Keva are survivors of past abuse.

Keva is sure her ex is going to kill her. The violence is escalating and there’s no way out for her. She knew her ex was a wolf shifter, but she didn’t think things could get any weirder until she’s saved by a dragon. Keva spends the next 4 years rebuilding herself and her life while living under Conall’s protection.

Dagen is good at making money. He didn’t fit into his clan, partially because of his past. He knows as soon as he sees her, Keva is his mate, just like he knows he totally insulted her.

There’s no way Keva is going to risk being in a relationship where the perceived power balance is so unequal, but then the past that scarred her comes back to find her. When she learns about Dagen’s past, will she be willing to take a chance?

Along the way, we see so many familiar faces. I love Arya and the twins. They just make me smile, along with getting an update on Victoria’s pregnancy. Reus has created a complex and beautiful world and I can’t wait to visit it again.

Sentinel of Darkness is the eighth book in Katie Reus' Darkness series. Although I have not read any of the other books I found this short novella easy to follow.

I love paranormal romance but have never been a great fan of dragons!? That said, I really enjoyed reading about Dagen and Keva. They have both experienced abuse in their past and this was a well written story of self discovery and love.

Well worth a read. I received this ARC from NetGalley for an honest review.

I liked this one, and that is saying something because I very rarely read fantasy of any kind. However, I really like Katie Reus’ writing so I gave it a shot and I’m glad I did. I loved how they met and the sparks just kept getting hotter from there. I will have to check out the rest in the series!

This is my first book in this series, but not my first Katie Reus book. In Sentinel of Darkness the heroine -Keava- is a human who knows of the dragon and werewolf kind. She's had a history with paranormal beings. Some good and some not.
Daegan, the hero, is a dragon shifter who finds his mate after insulting her. He has to win her over before he can even ask her out.
Her history comes back with a vengeance and Daegan takes care of her.

I really enjoyed this short story in the Darkness series. Both Dagen and Keva were characters with brutal pasts but they were also very strong characters who used their past to make them stronger. I really loved that while Dagen was still a very alpha male he was also very honest with Keva and communicated what he wanted and what he felt. Keva had some reservations about getting involved with a shifter and they were logical reasons that made complete sense given her past. I loved that she didn't shut Dagen out as she figured out whether she could handle being in another relationship with a shifter and that she brought up the big power difference between the two of them. A lot of previous characters made an appearance in this book and overall I very much enjoyed it.

A copy of this book was provided to me by Net Galley and the publisher with no requirements for a review. I voluntarily read this book and my comments here are my honest opinion

This is one of those series that whenever I see a new release I snap it up quickly. They are such easy, quick reads. I didn’t even know who the characters were, or how they were connected within the series, when I picked Sentinel of Darkness up. All I knew was that one of the main protagonists was a dragon shifter and the other a human. Once I started reading it was super easy to understand where this couple fit into this world.

Dagen meets his mate when he is stuck in an elevator with her on his way to a meeting with a local woman about some real estate. It turns out Keva is the woman he was supposed to meet and she knows about the existence of his kind and has a relationship with several members of his clan. Once he meets her, he knows that he is his forever and sets out to woo her. His protective instincts get all riled up when Keva’s abusive ex-boyfriend’s brother comes around and starts terrorizing her. It doesn’t take much for this couple to fall for each other. A few dinners, a dragon out to protect his mate, and BAM… it’s love.

This was another super fast, fun read by this author. Dagen and Keva do have the instalust, instamate thing going on but, I expected it and it worked in this short novella length story.

There is a lot to love about author Katie Reus’ Darkness series, but the one thing I can’t get enough of is all the sex-on-a-stick dragons to be found. Every time I read a dragon shifter book, it just underscores that you can never, ever, EVER have enough smoking hot, growly, alpha dragons in your book. Yum.

I’m all about stories featuring battered women who not only rise above their pasts, but who go on to positively soar. I love it when a heroine who has hit rock bottom then grows into a strong woman who is perfectly capable of not only fighting her own battles, but winning them. It took Keva several years to fully come into her own inner strength and the new threat terrified her, but she met it head on and I adored her for it.

Degan was everything I expected him to be, but he also had a vulnerability about him due to a horrific past of his own. I found this trait of his endearing as all get out. The instant bond he found with Keva did not translate to insta-love because both were too cautious for that. Still, even though they didn’t act on things immediately, they freaking sizzled together.

What I didn’t enjoy was how anticlimactic the suspense aspect felt when it was resolved, even after another threat surfaced. It ended up feeling too quick and tidy of a resolution, almost forced actually.

I truly enjoyed the time spent with some of my favorite dragons. Arya and her sisters-in-law kept me smiling and the shifter baby shower had me giggling with all its cuteness. Sentinel of Darkness was quick, fun and seriously sexy—how could it not be with such an alphatastic but oh so sweet dragon.

Rating: 4 Growly Dragons Just Do It For Me Stars
